I've soooo been searching for a video like this. I have a 2006 Acura TL white with terrible tan interior. Ive redone the headliner using Corbeau suede material for most of the plastic pieces. Which all started by purchasing 2x Corbeau racing seats and when the dealer found out my desire to change my interior from tan to black thats when he put me on to the corbeau headliner material (though it works for plastic pieces as well.) I what i couldn't wrap I just bought off eBay (black door panels, black seatbelts, etc...) Even my rear speaker deck is wrapped. But the carpet I thought would have been easy to find. Unless it was a super expensive "donor" car or the vehicles carpet was too badly damaged it was all a failure. But seeing yours made me give more thought to just using black dye.
@adsafgasgasdfasdf haven't done it yet unfortunately! I work full time so I only have the weekends off and the weekends have been reserved for the mechanical aspect of our rebuild. We're manual swapping his car
Seems like a good method, but you should have washed it to see how it holds up. For anyone watching this I highly recommend you also make a spray bottle of RIT DYE COLOR STAY, as the name suggests it helps BOND the color to fabric.
Great job, I done the can version and it was so crusty and when water went on it? It turned back to gray again, so I’m going this route with this die, great job kid !

i deffs thought bleach would hold the color in better. and also maybe even used a heat gun or blow dryer before wqshing it to lock in the color a little more maybe?
Thank you so much for this video. That spray method is pretty smart. Gonna do my IS 350 Headliner like this since the other option would be buying the ISF headliner for ~ $1000.
You forgot to add the (Rit colorstay Dye fixative) that goes last, it’s to make the dye last longer and stay doesn’t stain your shoes. I did this on a car but didn’t add the colorstay fixative and it stained my shoes bad.
Believe you are supposed to wash it normally post dying, after its sit in the dye for long enough to stain. Thats what is done with everything else that is dyed with rit dye. Let the carpet sit for a night and then go in there with a bucket, sponge and soap and put in some hard elbow grease to get rid of the leftover dye material. Might take a second go through too idk.

I used black Rite dye to do my auto carpet. How do you treat it so it doesn’t bleed off? After 24 hours, I rubbed a white paper towel on it and the towel had black on it. And when I rubbed a wet paper towel, it bleed onto it a lot.
To enhance the color and reduce color bleeding, use Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative immediately after dyeing and before washing, following these instructions. Rinse in cool water until rinse water begins to run clear. Wash in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse and dry.

Definitley have to completely dry carpet before you spray ,and if you do spray don’t spray heavy ,do light misting coats to build up a good adhesion base then let that dry , then spray a finishing coat, let it dry, do a touch up if needed, all keeping a decent bit of distance to stop over spray
if the carpet is a synthetic fabric the rit dye he used wont work. you need synthetic fiber dye. *rit dyemore for synthetics. (it's a pain to use-it needs to constantly be at a below boil for 30min-an hour) *plenty of youtube videos on it
Hey I know this is an older video but how does it turn out in terms of the dye stiffening up the carpet fibers? If I use this kit properly will I still keep an oem like feel?
Did this on my 1994 Accord Wagon. If you do the same process but wash out each coat after it sits overnight with a sprayer on a regular garden hose it will wash the extra dye out and that way it wont stain other things and will keep the same texture as it did stock when done. So dye it, let sit overnight, wash off with water, dry by shop vac, redye, sit, wash, dry by shop vac, repeat until color is satisfactory when dry. When you like the color make sure its washed out well and then vacuum and dry it really well and then you'll be golden. The texture after done or being in the car for a couple days afterwards will be the exact same as stock.
Thats what I like about my element, I can use my favorite interior cleaner, spray it down, let it soak up, then a few minutes later clean it off with micro fiber rags, and the interior looks like new, no need to remove the interior, pressure wash nor spot vacuum cleaners
I wanna do this so bad, I just dont have the patience to take everything out and put it all back in. I'm in waxahachie, you live close? If I paid you would you do it for me?

After dying the carpet, how was the texture? Does it feel like carpet or does it get stiff or gross? Never used RIT but have used other dyes and it made the carpet stiff
If you don't have a shampooer, you can just use hot water, some degreaser and a brush to scrub and rinse off with hose. If you've got a wet/dry vacuum, use that to suck up water from the carpet.
Does this feel hard and wall paint does after it dries up? I’m worried after applying the whole carpet and comes out crispy and dry like normal paint does on fabric.
Damnit... it didnt work on mine. I don't know if yours is different than mine, but its like it wouldn't stick to my carpet, maybe because it's polyester idk
You could’ve just went to a carpet mill get remnants, carpet for a car trace the old carpet as a pattern and then just install it in your car. You would’ve saved a lot of time and money.

Buy new carpet this is not worth the effort neither is the spray cans of automotive vinyl dye, they don't last and it's a lot more time and effort than just fitting new carpet
@@100reality2 it’s the same amount of effort
Does your mom get mad at you for getting dye in her sink or spray in her garage? I'm not allowed to do projects like this unless my mom is at work.
😂😂😂
After dying the carpet, how was the texture? Does it feel like carpet or does it get stiff or gross? Never used RIT but have used other dyes and it made the carpet stiff
Run a brush over it and it'll help soften it up.
Did you leave the mat attached when you sprayed it? I did this and it's still wet after 3 days of drying and it's too heavy to move
If I don’t have a pressure washer can I just use the carpet cleaner vacuum thing?
Yes it will still work that way
If you don't have a shampooer, you can just use hot water, some degreaser and a brush to scrub and rinse off with hose. If you've got a wet/dry vacuum, use that to suck up water from the carpet.
Does this feel hard and wall paint does after it dries up? I’m worried after applying the whole carpet and comes out crispy and dry like normal paint does on fabric.
It's dye, not paint
Do you think this will come off on my shoes or my pants if I do this?
What brand is that shampoo machine? Came out great I had same color in camry wish I had this video then. My santa fe could use this though.
FixmyToyota I don’t remember bought it about 2yrs ago from Walmart I think it’s a bissel
Did you rinse it out after your put the diy ?
Question did you rinse out the dye after having it fully dye ? Or did you just keep it like that🤔
Yes, if you go the dye method you need to rinse out whatever doesn't stick (otherwize its going to transfer to your skin/clothing)
Would this work with the headliner too?
Thanks!
yo you donate money ??
need to rinse it. gl on a rainy day
I have gray interior been thinking of buying Jegs black cloth racing seats for the front and dying the rear seats black and also the carpet black.
The Uselink Project ima get racing seats up front and dye the back ones
Gets wet and dye comes out
These came out looking amazing
I would just take the carpet out and wash it at a laundry mat in an industrial wash machine and then use rot dye to let it soak
Damnit... it didnt work on mine. I don't know if yours is different than mine, but its like it wouldn't stick to my carpet, maybe because it's polyester idk
The Rit dye worked perfectly but took 3 bottles
I used half a bottle like you did on mine and it was dark grey did a more dense bottle the 2nd time and I’m guessing it was too thick for the sprayer
Amazing! Did u dry the carpet before dyeing it?

How long does this last ?
You could’ve just went to a carpet mill get remnants, carpet for a car trace the old carpet as a pattern and then just install it in your car. You would’ve saved a lot of time and money.
Money? He spent 10 bucks lol
That wouldn't work. Car carpet is specifically molded in certain spots. This way he keeps the original molds
