      @@gunjitakumari5138Think of it like this:
      ID is the devil, Superego is the angel, and the Ego is You, a concious intelligent human being, made in the image of the divine, capable of balance, a part of the living force. As an image of the divine, you can achieve to be neither light nor dark. Neither the predator nor the prey, but the very balance itself that these 2 seeks to achieve.

    Here is a perfect fictional example in the movie The Lord of the Rings:
    Id - Gollum (instinctual, impulsive and irrational desires).
    Superego - Sam (moral convictions, loyalty).
    Ego - Frodo (mediator between Gollum and Sam throughout the film).

    This goes with the dark triad and light triad I've been researching lately.
    You need some dark triad, but you also need light triad as the basics of your character and the one who balances this is "the self" or "soul".

    So would the ego suggest doing homework for a set amount of time then pleasuring itself with ID as a reward system??

    • @DrRobinWollast
      @DrRobinWollast  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great way to think about it! The ego balances the demands of the id and superego, so it might suggest doing something productive (homework) first, then rewarding yourself afterward (pleasure from the id), in a more socially acceptable way.

    @weallliveintrees 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for the video. I often think that Id, ego and super ego can be similar to the concept of 'head' 'heart' and 'soul' and that in the reality of day to day living, sometimes our logical, rule bound 'head', must take president over our more instinctual (vital?), Id. Under other circumstances it is the heart over ruling the head, with the 'soul' or ego left to determine the ultimate 'morality' through traditional virtues, such as prudence, justice, temperance and fortitude. I also occasionally like to think of the id ego and superego as the main protagonists in Star Trek The Original Series, perhaps Doctor McCoy as the id, representing wanting 'to do the right thing' and 'damn the consequences Jim!' emotional and instinctual. Mr. Spock is the super-ego also wanting to 'do the right thing' but adhering to logic, rules and regulations as 'a cool head'. Captain James T Kirk is the ego, who must arbitrate between the advice given by his officers and make a moral choice to serve the best interests of and for, not just himself but the survival and safety of his entire crew and Starship, Not a perfect example, for sure, but a fun one. When one starts looking, many examples can be found in literature, as previously mentioned Gollum, Sam and Frodo from Lord Of The Rings.

    I realize that this is a short video for the general public, but the superego is much more complex that that. It has 6 functions: Shame, regulation, support, punishment, guilt and ego ideal. One example of the ego ideal function would be to feel you should be as smart as Freud if you area a psychologist!!
