    Dear brother in heart. I am so very grateful about your simple and effective videos. You enable myself to DIY even as a mechanic in beginning. By your advice I did change the entire chain kit today. Formely I changed the tires and did a few more adjustments. I also appriciate your videos from the mountains which inspire me to travel there one day by myself. So please keep going!

      Thanks mate, glad you found it useful :). And yes the front sprocket does seem to be over torqued but its mostly the Loctite. No less tough to break free ;) But would be easier next time. cheers :)

    My sprocket nut was on so tight (at 13,600 miles) that even with my wife standing on the brake pedal, the wheel would turn before the nut would release. After a little thought, I found a Phillips head screwdriver that would fit through one of the holes in the back rotor, pushed it through and let it rest against the caliper, and leaned on my breaker bar. Success! So, if you don't have an assistant (or a wood block), or RE put your sprocket nut on really really REALLY tight, this is another way to keep things from turning.

      Hey mate, really glad to here that, trust me, mine has done a bit over 14000 miles, and not been to service center yet and I would like to believe it never will ;)
      Yup saving the money is one but also, I cant have anyone touch any of my bikes, Himalayan included, serviced and cared for at home. Now to be fair I have made mistakes here and there, but nothing major and thus far all of them are holding up nicely, the oldest one has done over 100000 miles, naah no ones touching them :D cheers

      @@leuheanrede I just did mine. I smeared some moly grease on the spline for the sprocket (saw that recommended on another YT channel - not sure if it's necessary but oh well). My nut was very hard to undo. I had it in gear (a mistake I won't repeat, as you mention, it strains the gearbox too much) and was standing on the brake lever and the wheel still turned when a friend tried to undo the nut! Had to use a long , long extension bar to get it undone. I replaced the 15T with a 16T and didn't need to break the chain - just slip the old one off and slip the new one into the chain and onto the spline after backing off the chain adjusters all the way. Back in the 70's we used to take off partly worn sprockets and turn them around so the new face of each tooth engaged with the chain. It got more miles out of the sprockets for us. RE seem to want around 100 lb/ft torque on that countershaft nut but reading other bike forums 45 seems fine, especially with the lock washer, so that's all I've torqued mine to. Makes it easy to remove next time. Thank you for the video! I always learn something from them, thank you for taking the time.

      @@leuheanrede Wow. I got mine from the local dealer in Perth (cost be $65 AUD). Then a bought a complete DID X-ring chain and two diamond cut (made in Germany) sprockets (16/38) from Carpimoto in Italy (on line) for $180 apprx. AUD delivered (five days from the order). On the highway it drops about 400 RPM at 100kph and it spreads the gear changes out which suits the torquey motor. Engine feels less stressed and revvy. You lose a little bit for walking pace off-road (not much, but manageable in 90% of situations). I reckon the bike now feels 'perfect'. My riding is a good mix of long road (110kph), dirt road (80kph), off-road (30 kph in sand, gravel, mud, water crossings, hills, clay, thick scrub/bush), and it is the perfect bike. I've had BMW GS1200, DR800, DR650, SWM650 in the past. Hope this helps

I would give up but I notice there is a problem behind the front sprocket. What I assume is a protective plate, secured by one bolt just above the sprocket, has sheared and is now loose. hi friend, I hope you are doing well, so if I understand correctly, as soon as the front sprocket shows signs of wear, it must be changed and this will prevent the chain from wearing too much, so it will last longer a long time, on my Himalayan I have 23'000 km and I heard some strange noises coming from the chain, I think that it must be that, I will change the front sprocket and my chain looks good condition, the rear sprocket too. Sincerely François

    • @leuheanrede
      @leuheanrede  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate its been long 🙂 Thanks I am well, hope you are staying safe too.
      And 23000 kms I mean that is commendable. That shows how well you have taken care of your chain. Now you only run a slight risk if you change the front sproket that it might wear out soon as the worn chain will make its way to fit into teeth. But that will give you good 4 to 5000 kms I bet if you change now.

      @@leuheanrede Hi friend, yes it's been a long time, this Wednesday I changed my tires, I put on Metzeler Tourances to drive on small roads, they are very quiet and pleasant to drive, I do not regret my choice (with the strap technique to support the tire and the piece of wood to hold the spacer in place, it's super easy, I also adopted your method to put the valve in the rim, super cool) and today Friday, finally I changed everything the transmission, the front and rear sprocket plus the chain, I had the kit, again no chain noise, it's the top, so I'm good for this summer. But in a few thousand km I would change the front sprocket, that's for sure. Receive my best regards and have a good weekend despite the covid, cordially François :-)

    • @leuheanrede
      @leuheanrede  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks mate :), and yes you are right, i didnot mention it, reason being you might have noticed that it was not only over torqued from factory but there was also some red Loctite residue so 16 Kgm is like 150 Nm and again a bit too much i think, there is a risk of damaging the threads too.

      The torque on a lot of the fasteners feels a bit high. I usually try to get it within 10% of the value written in the manual, then use a marker to draw a vertical line across the fastener. Any non-vertical lines need attention.

    Isn't it better to change the whole set, sprockets and chain, all together? because the well used chain will never be perfect match on a new sprocket.

    • @leuheanrede
      @leuheanrede  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed mate it is, but if timed correctly and changed pre-emptively it can add to chain life, like say if doing it after 20000 kms, the chances are that we are too past gone and chain will indeed eat up the front sprocket in no time but say for example if done at 12000 kms, things are different ;) cheers :)

    Hi Wana check, I tried it in service centre they mentioned they only have full set not front one.
    I tried to source. It from local market via Rolon they also don't have.
    Do you have any idea any compatible or other manufacturers who sells

    • @leuheanrede
      @leuheanrede  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate, naah, there is no cost effective option available. I say that because there is a 1400+ inr sprocket available at moto usher website, but that doesn't make any sense, I mean we can get the whole new chainset assembly from RE at 2300 and some change.
      That being said, RE service centers can order just the front one if you give them the part number, mine arrived almost 4-5 months later..
      So that's one way to go, give them the part number and order it.
      Other than that there is no other viable option currently
