This will go on a bit so I apologise in advance but anyway, about 20 years ago I bought a Honda fireblade which was damaged so instead of fitting new lights so I just fitted cheap race fairings. Because there were no front lights on the bike it had a "daytime only mot" which was fine for riding in the summer and track days. One Sunday evening I was riding home when I was stopped by two members of the Norfolk cunstabulary. They stopped me for not having a headlight, my response was obviously "it's not dark" they tried to tell me that it was a legal requirement to have a headlight so I asked them how it passed an mot? They got increasingly mouthy and refused to accept that the bike was perfectly legal and eventually decided to get vosa. By the time vosa got there it was dusk, the guy had a quick look around the bike and said it was fine, the copper even tried to argue with him but eventually had to admit defeat. At this point it was dark, I had no phone signal and I was 20 miles from home so I asked plod what They were going to do about getting me and my bike home and they just shrugged and said it wasn't up to them to get me home! I remembered passing a house about 500 yards back down the road so I pushed the bike down a pitch black country lane and onto the drive, I knocked on the door not knowing what sort of reception I was going to get but the lady of the house answered the door and immediately invited me in. I relayed what had happened to her husband and while I used their phone to call my wife, who by this time assumed I was dead, the guy emptied his van and we loaded my bike in it and he drove me home. On the journey he told me that they'd been burgled several times and police were completely uninterested, even accusing them of insurance fraud on one occasion. When we got to my house he helped me get the bike out, came inside for a cuppa and helped passify the missus them left refusing to take a penny from me, not even to cover his diesel. I already knew what the police were and nothing I've seen since has changed my mind.

I am a retired Met Police Officer and I could not agree more. Total waste of everyones time and public money. A pointless venture that he had to see through because he knew he had started off on the wrong foot and realised he was on the cusp of some deep doo doo. What we are seeing is damage limitation for some bad policing; trying to find something to prosecute to justify this rubbish. Non-conforming plates are an advisary. Tinted visors are not illegal, I use one all through the summer months, because not being able to see properly in bright or low sunlight IS hazardous.

I suggested that the light was actually green and there was no one at the crossing to push the button to activate it. The fine officer was insistent it was red and wrote a ticket. I asked what would happen if I refused to accept it. "Court and your funeral" was the reply. Didn't turn out quite as he'd expected. I live in Ontario Canada, where we no longer have tax discs. The tag, as they were known, used to be stuck to the back number plate. HOWEVER, Ontario bikers are now being pulled over by State Troopers, in the US as they expect to see the tag. I understand this as the scanners simply tell the cop of an infraction. Most of the time, the serial criminal is let go, but some are being cited, which leads to an enormous waste of time, as if you enter the US with this hanging over your gas tank, you are in a world of hurt. This is called progress

If they declined to accept guilt and thus the caution (no, it isn't a rap across the knuckles and getting away with it), then there's a good chance, based on how ludicrously trivial the alleged offence was, that it would have been thrown out as not in the public interest to go to court and if it did, there's a reasonable chance of being found not guilty (mindful the video isn't very clear on what was actually claimed to be unlawful, apart from claimed lack of maker and safety markings on the plate).

This is a story from a few years ago whilst travelling to work in Sunbury on Thames.
I was on a CG125 Honda riding to my station, I was a firefighter based at Sunbury on Thames, my route to work was from Harrow through Greenford, then head towards Hounslow, Feltham and Sunbury.
I had just approached the big roundabout under the A40 at Greenford when traffic cop in white Land Rover came around the roundabout, looked at me waiting at the junction, and then pulled over. He got out of his vehicle and signalled for me to pull over.
He came to my bike and asked me to remove my helmet, I did this but underneath my top lid I always used to wear a black silk balaclava for warmth in the winter months.
I removed this as well and the coppers eyes went like saucers. I wasn't a black guy as he obviously thought I was, I asked why he had stopped me and he actually said "you looked too big for your bike" 😅
When he found I was a fireman going to duty his attitude changed so quickly also.
Just thought I would share that with you all.

I was the duty police helicopter pilot one night... Off shift at 0300 and a 30 minute drive through rural lanes to get home.. as I went round a particular dodgy bend a police car going the other way and way to fast near shoved me in a hedgerow! I just knew he was going to turn round and pull me in order to save face but before he did I booted it down the road with a grin! He caught me 15 minutes later and he must have been going like the clappers! I was just over a brow of a hill, slowed to a potter and watched him fly over the top and jam on the anchors... blue lights on and I was stopped - we had a little conversation and I was invited out of the car for a breath test because he could smell alcohol - as I did so, dressed in my flying suit, police wings and unit badges I happened to ask whether he'd been on my last job which was a motorbike pursuit.. Click! that was the breath tester case being snapped shut! he warned me to slow down on the bends got into his car and left! what a chump.

I remember cycling down The Mall under Admiralty Arch turning left through the lights to go up Cockspur Street. This was the 90s when I lived in Victoria and cycled in the evenings after work in lycra. Anyway, as I was going through the lights I saw a police van the other side and as I made my way up Cockspur Street, I heard it put on its sirens behind me. I was surprised when it pulled over in from of me and made me brake hard. Officer jumped out and accused me of going through a red. I said "No, no, no! You had a red officer, because you were coming from Northumberland Avenue and that is how those lights work. Stand here and observe. See all those cars coming around from Admiralty Arch and those cars stopped where you were. Do you understand now? Good." No apology, nothing, he just got back in his van. Presumably before I could identify him.

In South Australia, just outside the then police HQ in Franklin Street in Adelaide, a slow moving police car on the side of the road threw a u-turn and knocked a rider off his scooter. "DIDN'T YOU SEE MY INDICATOR" he screamed, and wrote some fabricated tickets for the rider. Poor old plod was a bit thick - he didn't "see" the CAMERA mounted to the riders helmet. He hadn't indicated, he'd simply swerved across the road and knocked a rider down (physical contact -> collision), then trumped up some tickets. When the video made it to media, the tickets were withdrawn, and the officer "suspended" until further notice. On full pay. On OUR TAX $$$$.

"So why are you pushing it?"

" That would be helpful in this situation sir".

the reason they do that is because of the cameras. They all try it when they've got nothing else. The justification is that insurance companies consider making TH-cam content, because it can be monetised, to be a business use of the bike hence not covered under an SD&P policy. The way around this is to state that the cameras are there in case of an incident involving you or your vehicle. It's then on them to prove that you're not using a latest-model Go Pro or Insta360 or whatever, as a really expensive dashcam.

It's a crafty trick the police hold in reserve, as it's common not to know the finer points of insurance for young riders apparently. half the food delivery scooters around town don't have the correct cover either, which can also be used against them if they get lippy.

    Tinted Visors:
You can wear a tinted visor during daylight hours.
However, according to UK ‘Fitness to Drive’ rules, avoid using tinted visors at night or in poor visibility.

I remember being stopped several times around London and just got advice and a little telling off, never a ticket. That taught me to be respectful and to recognise the cops as friends. Very sadly, that is no longer the case. Ego is the biggest problem, they need to remember that they represent the law, they are not the law and that they as individuals have no part In the job they do. The copper talked with the guy in front and let him go. He then came to me to tell me I was speeding which I contested. I asked why he let the other guy go as he was in front of me and therefore must have been doing the same speed. He said that they guy in front was going slower, I said if I was going faster than the guy in front I would have crashed through him. I then asked if he was let go as he had welsh number plates and that I was a visitor. That didn't go down well and he got stroppy. When he finished and gave me my paperwork I asked him to write all of my comments down on his device and let me have a copy. this kept him there for a good half hour as he made lots of mistakes. You must remember to be polite as you were antagonistic and with attitude. I find if I’m polite and cooperative. It all runs smoothly.

Sure, I would normally agree with that 100% However, sadly the policeman set the tone in the first 30 seconds of speaking too us(for which we did receive an apology), so it goes both ways.
      Respect has to be earnt👍
