kinda unrelated but still neat, oracle of ages and seasons for game boy color are connected via a password system and have an extra boss fight

ages is my fav zelda on GBC and my all time favorite 2d zelda is minish cap idk why! but if you make a video on those, i'll definitely see them. i use save states with the original zeldaa cuz its so hard, you'd think that for the digital versions the original manual would be scanned in... nintendo did it for startropics! grr! have a great day, thanks for reading

This game lived up to its golden cartridge. The greatest video game of all time. I still have it and it still works.

One of the best, Super Mario Bros. 3 was right there. I just didn't know the cart had a battery life for the saving ability. Until much later.

You know, I didn't originally care for Zelda. I didn't have my own NES till '89 when I was 12, but I had been obsessed with Nintendo since 86. So I had to play what I could when I could as I never lived within walking distance of anyone with an NES. So I was a side scroller guy. Love the action games. I loved Zelda II due to that. But now I love them all.

36 years old and finally beat this game after getting to use a map. Started playing this game at 8 years old. I still love the game. Never have beat zelda 2 though.
i was born in 82. i got this game when i was like 5 or 6. me and my grandma would play it all night. when we would find items or any thing we would get all happy.

I was born in '81 and oddly enough heard that you should put in "Zelda" as your name on the registration screen. I learned the whole 2nd quest first never realizing til years later it was such. Fast forward to last week when I signed up for Nintendo Switch Online and for the 1st time in my life played through the 1st quest. It was an absolute blast playing this game for the "1st time" and learning a whole new version of the game. Absolutely loved it.

You guys got lucky. I was able to acquire the game through a trade off for one of my games. I forgot what game i traded for zelda but it was worth it. I do remember not getting a booklet with it so i had to use my own set of skills to beat it.
Absolutely one of the most epic adventures I have ever been on. I remember paying $50 for this game. It was well worth it.
My 2nd grade teacher took away my manual. I wasn't even reading it in class. Still bitter.

I was 3 when my sister got a NES for Christmas. A couple months after I saw this game on the kitchen counter. Not long after I beat it the first time, and because of this Link is still my favorite hero in all of fiction.
You can give gannon the last boss the meat, it will keep him in one place for about 5 seconds so you can get some easy hits in.
I always liked using the meat on Goriya or Moblins, then torch them with the candle.
I have played since the Christmas after release and never heard that. Cool. Actually we got Zelda like a week after Christmas, my parents bought us these stupid jets on handles that were supposed to do something, to this day IDK what, but they didn't work, and luckily they were $20 each, so with three kids we had just enough to trade our three lame jet on a handles for one beautiful golden copy of The Legend of Zelda... BEST GIFT EVER!!!!! Even with having to share it. P

So sorry to hear that you threw away your booklet and map. Man, I don't think I went anywhere without the booklet. I would read it over and over for hours. In school, waiting in waiting rooms, riding the bus, while the adults sat and talked during gatherings. If i wasn't home playing Zelda, I was playing pretend Zelda outside, drawing Zelda, reading anything Zelda I could get my hands on, eating Nintendo cereal system and watching the cartoon (which granted isn't good today, but it sure was back then). I was a child obsessed. And now I'm a woman, still obsessed. LOL

I just fell in love where was yu in my childhood life we would've been the perfect link & Zelda LOL. I used to love buying Zelda books at the book fair in elementary school and i would draw the characters all the time too. 💓 miss those days.
When this game first came out I hated it along with Zelda II cause I really didn't understand it. I finished the First Zelda sometime last year for the first time and completed Zelda II a few months ago. I have a new found love and appreciation for both games. Great video!
My next door neighbor turned me on to The Legend of Zelda when I was in 7th grade. I still remember the day I finally beat Gannon. To this day, The Legend of Zelda remains my favorite video game of all time, followed closely by Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation.

This will always be my favorite game ever. It was ahead of its time with the puzzles and the save progress. So great, I play it every year around Christmas
A gaming tip, if you run into a Dodongo or a group of them. Many gamers think that you shall feed them with bombs, and that they die after eating two, yes that's true but instead of wasting up to 6 bombs on a group of three you can kill them with three bombs and get payed back with bombs.
Just place it in front of one coming towards you so it explodes just before the Dodongo eats it. That will stunn him and you can finish him off with your sword. This will make your way easier and in 9 Times of 10 you will get bombs back.
I've seen playtroughs of the game and get a little irritated when I see players go back to find or purchade more bombs just to throw them away on these enemies.
Hope this tip will help you. This is one of the games I can brag about being good at 😉

Its actually easier to feed them one then immediately drop one right in front of them than to try to line it up while they are moving. The 2nd bomb will blow right as he finishes eating the first one and he can still be killed with the sword for the bomb drop. Yeah, it takes two bombs with this method but you get four in return so it is still a net gain.
I remember sneaking up in the middle of the night when I had school the next day to play this when I was in elementary school.

ironically in both oracle games, if you play the flute or harp of ages it kills pols voice instantly.
I'm not sure how known this is, but enemies don't respawn on a given screen if you leave one alive.
I remember doing this and found that it only lasted for so many screens away before it was somehow reset for me.
It was mentioned in a Nintendo Power back in the 80s
Summer after sixth grade (1989) was spent day and night working on the Second Quest. I produced an eight page guide of my own on graph paper detailing every last detail of the overworld, every last inch of every dungeon with every last hidden passage, wall passage and bombable (if that's a word) wall. I produced a highly detailed legend with every item and its location on both the underworld and each dungeon. Oh, it was a stunning masterpiece that took three months to produce and I made it all by myself.
Somehow it ended up in the trash because my mom didn't know what it was. So don't feel bad about the box. To this day I still haven't been able to commit to playing the second quest even with it being all detailed in the NES Game Atlas. I don't want to use someone elses strategy guide...I wanted to use my own!

Very nice. My buddy and I actually did our "Independent Study" for gifted program on Zelda. We actually got to play video games for homework. We mapped out all 9 levels on a whole posterboard each, cant recall what we did for the overworld, if anything visually at least. We then had to present our studies to the class (this was 5th grade I believe).

I remember buying this game at Child World for my 7th birthday and being amazed by it. Still, my all time favorite game. Great video so many good memories with this game

I was 7 when this released... ...this game invoked a passion for gaming in me that the speaker in this video really put into perfect words. I had no idea about the music at the beginning and the interesting twist of fate that came to be regarding this. The music itself is iconic and legendary. Seeing a video such as this one... a video that heralds this chapter of my past so highly nearly brought tears to my eyes. I'm 39 years old now... it has been 32 years since I found that gold cartridge. I am still in love and always will be. This game has truly changed my life.
Such an old game and a lot of people are not aware that with the Gold Cartridge if you create a character with the name "ZELDA", you start the game as New Game+ difficulty and will be holding a master sword instead of a wooden sword at the character screen.
There is no Master Sword in NES games. Name Zelda doesn't start the new game+, instead it starts the 2nd quest, which means that the dungeons and items are in different locations

My friend brought it over when he spent the night. He went to the bathroom and I started the game. I mistakenly started a new game over his almost finished one. He was devastated.

I fell in love with this game too! I also had a similar hairstyle! I had a girlfriend who played this game with me in her room and she told me she chose the potion instead of the heart container! What a knuckle head!

Had the same experience being lured by the gold cartridge and not knowing what I was buying for my birthday, but no regrets. Great game and great series--Link to the Past remains my favorite.
This game was at one point my all time favorite. It was a major influence on my leaning toward RPGs. I wish I still had a functioning NES so I could play this. It was fun just to run around exploring. Will always love this game.
I really enjoyed this video!! This is one of my favorite NES games of all times and my favorite in the Zelda series. I also threw away my boxes as a kid and I lost my map and manual. I know the heartbreak you feel as an adult and new found appreciation for that kind of stuff. One day I will get a CIB game again. This was a great video and brought me back some awesome memories!

I was introduced to Link working at NOA as a temp for the start of Nintendo Power Magazine. I made the maps, probably spent too much time with it, and had to had the Advantage controller to play it. No video gaming before that time.

I remember really getting into the original in the 90's after I played LTTP. It was hard to figure games out back then. Playing at a friend's house or at home with no manual or players guide was how most of us played these games. The first time I played it I didn't like it. I died quickly and had no idea what I was doing. Once I knew what I was doing I loved it and the original, complete including both quests, is my favorite one that I've played.

Ever notice "Pols Voice" rhymes with "Rolls Royce"?
Also, all the dungeons/labyrinths actually fit together like puzzle pieces. In theory, if you could edit a wall to be bombable, you could move from one dungeon to another.
And people say one dungeon is shaped like a swastikka. It is not. It is a manji. The difference is the direction the points go in (clockwise versus counter clockwise).
And " the tenth enemy has the bomb" means if you kill 10 enemies in a row, without taking damage, and you kill the tenth one with bombs, it will drop 4 bombs.
Also, when fighting darknuts with bombs, you have to pay attention to which direction you are facing when you drop the bomb. Bombs only attack in the direction you are facing when you drop them. So if a darknut is shielded from that direction, he takes no damage (even though he flashes as if he took damage). It is not determined by where the bomb sits in relation to where the darknut is. A bomb behind the darknut may not hurt him, just as a bomb in front of a darknut could hurt him. It all depends on if you were facing up, down, left, or right when you threw the bomb.

Sadly the DS/3DS has a mic but to my knowledge that feature has never been used to reimplement the vulnerability to sound that the Pol’s Voice originally had.
Icarus the tip about how bombs have directional damage is jaw dropping, why have I never noticed this? Darknuts have been the worst part of the game for me, especially the swarm guarding the whistle.
@@russellharrell2747 Yes. Its easiest to experiment with/prove if you get a clock to freeze all the Darknuts, and experiment with bombs.
Icarus yes, but you have to be lucky enough to get that magic clock! Is there any observable pattern to clock drops (like the 10th enemy dropping bombs) or is it truly random?

Blowing the recorder after collecting all the triforce pieces takes you to the ninth dungeon... it doesn’t 🤦♂️ try it. It just takes you to a random dungeon like always. It’s another mistranslated misleading piece of information from the manual.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't. It was just a mistranslation. The actual translation is more like, "When you blow the whistle, the whirlwind can take you to the entrances of the dungeons you've already found the triforce in." You can read about it on the legendsoflocalization website.
The dungeon you end up at isn't random. The direction you're facing when blowing the recorder affects which dungeon entrance you get taken to. Face to the right (or upwards) to go to the next dungeon, left (or downwards) to go to the previous dungeon.
One fun thing I remember doing was cheating the old man o the door repair charge. :p

Stagga Leaf yep, I remember that map they put out. I can’t remember if the publication was an earlier incarnation of Nintendo power or if it was the actual Nintendo power mag.
There was a Nintendo power book that featured The The Legend Of Zelda with maps of all 6 dungeons. Then, there was a monthly issue of Nintendo Power magazine that featured a map of dungeon #7. I'm not sure if they later featured #8 or #9.
when I was like 7 while entering a new name in spot number 2 I enter the name ZELDA and I was confused why the sprit looked different. well a few months pasted and I beat the game for the first time . then after the credits roll it brought me back to the name screen then I realized why the sprit looked different if you enter ZELDA as a mane it brings you to the 2nd quest.

I just use an emulator and a couple of game controllers on my computer. You can find the emulators and their roms on sites like romnation or emuparadise.
The most crazy thing to think about how far technology has come from the NES days is that you can store quite literally the whole NES library on a a thumb drive or even a CD-ROM.
If you hack your NES to add more ROMs, I highly recommend you check out some of the awesome Zelda games out there, such as,
Shin Zelda Densetsu (That's Japanese for "The True Legend of Zelda", and Zelda is the hero in this one).
The Legend of Zelda Outlands, and,
Zelda: The Legend of Link.
You can also use the Zelda Randomizer website to create unique random versions of the standard Zelda game. It's very customisable so you can choose whch elements of the game to randomise, so enemy types and locations, item locations, dungeon locations, and so on can be tailored to create a new experience. Great if you've beaten the game or know it well, and want to rediscover it with a fresh twist :)
Also, the most up to date software hack is Hakchi CE v3.4.1, and that is simple to use and user friendly. There are tutorials to guide you through how to do it online :)
Also, just a headsup, Emuparadise doesn't host downloadable ROMs anymore. That happened really recently, and caused a bit of a stir as a potential blow to the state of game preseervation for ROMs that didn't see home console releases, such as the many arcade games that now exist mainly as ROMs, run through things like MAME. As Jo said though, there are other places to find them too. I find romsmania to be decent.
When you start a new file, type in "ZELDA" as your username.

Definitely a very effective way, I also like farming Ropes in Dungeon 2 and Red Leevers along the coasts for rupees as well.

This is a great channel, man! You seem to dig pretty deep on these games! Makes me wish I remembered my first time beating this game. I don't remember the moment but I remember watching my dad play it for months and months, I'd watch him play til like 8pm and still hear him rippin shit and exploring for hours.
I got my first gaming system (NES) when I was 8 years old. I didn't know just how iconic Nintendo would become, all I knew is that I LOVED mine! All my friends had one too. The Legend of Zelda was probably my favorite title. It had a certain magical quality to it. Thanks to your video I downloaded a NES emulator for my phone and I've been rediscovering all the secrets of Zelda almost 30 years after I first played it! Thank you!

Here's a tip I found. When you go into the caves that has the old man who gives you the option of the health potion or the heart container take the heart container everytime. It will give you longer life expectancy and lets you get the better swords faster.

Wow, GREAT VIDEO! I remember getting The Legend of Zelda for Christmas in 1987 after renting it every weekend. Pretty sure my parents figured they saved a thousand dollars buying it. I remember showing a friend the "North West South West" trick, and he went nuts. I remember the raft and heart containers always being such huge accomplishments. This game and its gold cartridge changed my life.
Being that I remember all that stuff and how hard it was to find information to beat the old games a long time ago, this was a wonderful story telling!
Excellent video! I have very similar experiences with Zelda as well. It really did solidify me as a gamer for life. I carried that map with me everywhere and I loved the cartoon-style drawings of Link in the manual. Growing up in the south in the 80's, my NES really was my escape. I just subscribed and dropped a like on this, glad I found your channel!

Great video man! I was the same. Explored every crevis of the game until I found everything. I played so much, that one day I played start to finish in 3hrs or so and still wanted to play more! Also I had a friend who saved all the boxes and hung them up on his bedroom wall. At the time I thought he was crazy, but now I wish I had done the same! I got the box, book, and the game but I still gotta get the map. I loved this game! It was so different back then and was so exciting to find secrets and something new. The mystery definitely played a role in the game. Times have changed and like you said everything can be found on the internet. Thanks and I did learn something new 👍🏻
Great Vid, I love this game soo much. Just like you , it was my intro in the world of gaming.
As a child, when I got this game, my dad and I sat down, taped like 6 sheets of paper together and made a map of all the secrets in the game. We marked every wall you could blow up and bushes you could burn. Good times. This is my favorite NES game, hands down.
I don't remember exactly how I ended up owning this game, but I do remember that I had got a used copy which was missing the map and instruction book. My dad and I got so into the game and trying to discover all the secrets that we made our own world map that showed all the places to burn/bomb and everything else we find. It was great. I believe this game is the reason I love playing mmorpgs to this day. This to me is the greatest game ever.
