Toyota is #1 for supplier satisfaction, and has the most stable and reliable supplier base - thanks to the partnership spirit that is the foundation of their mutual relationship. Strong suppliers can deliver high standards and quality components - which Toyota suppliers deliver - whilst achieving above industry average profit margins. Also, keeping the molds beyond legal requirements is part of the Toyota standards - up to 10 years after the part is discontinued - and this is a Customer Driven policy. The cost of keeping those molds in storage must be absorbed by the margin realized while the parts are produced. Suppliers know upfront about those policies, and have the chance to reflect those storage costs in the parts unit cost - which should be regular business planning practice - and quite insignificant cost as a % of the total parts cost. Incredible how Toyota seems to be chased every time they perform leaps ahead of its competitors…

This really sounds like Toyota haters just piling on regardless of how insignificant the issue is in reality. Such is the nature of business in the era of social media.
Just like in the era of the big three TV networks, bad news sells, really bad news, is amplified far more than good or positive news.

Bullying of suppliers is 100 times worse in America compared to Japan. Yes, Toyota with its massive power does shove around small suppliers like a sumo wrestler. If you look at the surveys of suppliers, the Japanese score at the top, and companies like Ford and GM at the bottom. Remember when GM forced Delphi to eat 1 billion in losses?

It's standard practice in the motor industry. When a model runs out you continue to build components for P&A purposes. You keep the tooling, jigs and fixtures in your plant. This is all factored into various supply agreements. Eventually there is a one time P&A buy and the tooling etc is then scrapped. It should not be an issue.

If it's true these smaller companies didn't know the law, it sounds like an opportunity for some well versed lawyer in manufacturing to be an advisor to them so they aren't being taken advantage of because of ignorance. I'm surprised they don't have something like a small manufacturer's association to take care of them.

Chevron should reduce the number of recalls. While voluntary recalls will continue, if the NHTSA wants to force a recall they will need to go to federal court. Auto makers know this and are less likely to do a voluntary recall hoping the NHTSA will drop the matter.

    Hey Kirk,
I love your channel - you always have the best info and reviews. Could you make a video about using 93 gas vs. 87 gas? We’ve been getting conflicting information from dealerships. The manual recommends 91 and above, but some dealerships say 87 is fine.
With recent Lexus redesigns recommending premium gas, it’s confusing. Reddit discussions haven’t provided a clear answer. Some posts say only the 450+ requires premium, while others say only the 250 or hybrids need it. Here in Los Angeles, premium gas costs around $6, which affects the savings from hybrids and plug-ins.
Could you find out more about this? Thanks!

    A fan ❤
