The masked flamebearer also was a great idea from Victor Le Masne. And that Mea Culpa part HOLY SHIT that was the icing on the cake !

Beyond the fact the performance and composition itself was flawless, the setting, the visuals, the historical relevance, the element of total surprise, and most of all, the massive global audience will realistically be impossible to top. Really the stuff dreams are made of.
Given the bands obvious political leanings I would personally find a concept album about frances role in historical global colonialism and especially souteast asian and african neo-colonialism.
As awesome as it was seeing Gojira performing and seeing Metal represented for the first time at the Olympics, for me nothing will ever come close to Muhammad Ali carrying the Olympic torch, struggling through Parkinson's and all and then lighting the Olympic flame in 1996.

My jaw literally dropped when I saw Gojira performing this! The build up, the setting, the history, the production - literally everything was amazing. One of the greatest moments in heavy metal history for sure.
It's available on Max where you can simply turn the commentary off. It's been there since day one. I prefer live version because both video and audio are perfect in every way

I can't even describe how proud I felt when I saw Gojira live in TV during Olympics ceremony. I was watching it with my family and when the band starts playing he was like: "Wait, that is Gojira? No way!" We were in shock. Then I felt so proud and then I my eyes went wet. ♥ It was the most epic thing I saw.. Thank you Gojira for this performance. ♥ ( BTW I was glad that comentator from my country was silent during perfomance, so we could fully enjoy)
There's something truly special about adding Opera & Orchestral Elements into anything Metal. It just makes the heavier bits feel all that more dark & foreboding, ESPECIALLY using a female singer paired with the male metal vocalist. The Violins pitch is sharp & contrasting to the bass & drums of metal it's literally meant to be!! The Mea Culpa in his gruff, growl sounds so on point too! Very fitting for the meaning of this song.
To be able to finally hear all the little nuances in this song is amazing. The guitar work, with the chugging palm mutes, the bend and release, the way the bass works in with it, and the drum work. Very definitive of that Gojira sound. And with the operatic singing. Beautiful work.

I was awakened to the Godliness that had unfolded in Paris. The Setting, the Backdrop, the Theatrics. All of it was beyond words. Watching this live (and the rebroadcast, and the multiple youtube uploads) was an incredible experience that brought me to tears...but hearing it again, mastered with the crowd and ambient noise cleaned up, was EPIC. I was awakened to the Godliness that had unfolded in Paris. The Setting, the Backdrop, the Theatrics. All of it was beyond words. I watched the video over and over and it gave me chills and I cried... every, single, time. Played this for my girls on the way to school this morning. They're down. Full blown banger right here but completely on par with the excellence they continue to put out. Really, truly great.
Watching this live (and the rebroadcast, and the multiple youtube uploads) was an incredible experience that brought me to tears...but hearing it again, mastered with the crowd and ambient noise cleaned up, was EPIC. I have been patiently awaiting this. Saving this to listen to over and over again. Congratulations and thank you Gojira...another barrier broken down in epic fashion.
