    Rahdo, thanks for all the awesome runthroughs. However, you're in Forbidden Sky I think you're playing the storm meter incorrectly (and making the game easier than it is supposed to be). The numbers 1 - 5 are centered on their respective color bars. For example, 2 applies to all the blue bars, 3 applies to all the purple bars, etc. So, in a 2 player game you should be drawing two storm cards per turn from the very beginning, and increase to three cards when you hit the first purple bar.

      hmm, interesting! you could be right, tbh that never occurred to me. i just checked the rules and it doesn't say one way or the other. numbers seem clearly to indicate one thing, colors clearly indicate another. oh dear!

      you're probably right though... will have to go give it a try again. was surprised we were able to win right out of the gate! :)

      I also thought Pete is correct, I found it strange but thought there was a gradient on the blue color until it reached the purple and then it would increase the number of cards drawn but since the rules weren't available online anywhere I couldn't check :\

      yup, i'm a dummy. we played again this morning using the correct rules, and i still stand by my assessment that it's comparable difficulty level to F.Desert :)

    I just bought this one a week ago. I loved Island and Desert. The components for Forbidden Sky were pretty disappointing, though. Basically every tile is misprinted/cut, so almost no printed orange wires actually line up with each other. And very few of the green quarter-circles are the same size, so they don't make complete proper circles, either. Mechanically, it obviously doesn't matter, but for a game you're going to sit and look at for an extended period, it's really bothersome. The rocket doesn't light up, either, and I'm not sure if it came with dead batteries, or if there's some other issue. I knew I was paying extra for a bunch of gimmicky bits, and I was fine with that, but those bits weren't even made properly, so what's the point?
    Great overview, though. I appreciate your work, sir.

      Zero Bad Ideas I read a similar review about mismatched tiles on Amazon and it’s stopped me from buying the game. These games so far have looked amazing and even if it’s a tiny thing, it would turn me off a lot.

      I'm not sure if you've found this answer or not, but there was apparently a decent chunk of copies with the misprint that you're mentioning. I got my copy 3 years ago as well, and my wires/circles seem to line up correctly. I'm wondering if they'd replace your copy (assuming you still had it).

    I know I’m pretty late to this, but that final placement of the top left corner of the landing pad wouldn’t have been legal as none of the copper lines connected to the tile Jen was standing on. 20:03

      Aaaand I just watched the next video where you realised this!

    There's a lot of fuzziness in the video quality. Could be a focus issue or something else but if you look at the left side of video and look at the text of Aerometer or Surveyor and compare that to Knotsmith on the right. The player pawns and tiles also seem a bit off.

    Wait, in Forbidden Desert you have to use the dome BEFORE the sun beats down? You can't just use it WHEN the sun beats down? I've been playing it wrong this whole time.

    Hi rahdo, i saw a couple of new entries on youre boardgamegeek ranking list (like this one, coimbra and fertility), i wondered if architects of the west Kingdom wil make it on to your list since you did seem to like it a lot?

      they never sent me a final production copy, so i've only played the prototype and therefore can't rate it.
      was very good though :)

    13:19 this wouldn’t have been legal as the copper wires do not match up.
    15:50 Rahdo just placed Jen’s tile.

      In his defense he’s playing forever alone, so technically it’s his tile anyway.
      At least we get the idea.

    • @bruceharlick3322
      @bruceharlick3322 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      13:19 looks correct to me. Only 1 copper wire need match up to make a valid placement and he's got the connection on the right side of the newly placed tile.

    • @adamsarni
      @adamsarni 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruce Harlick nah Richard is correct the rules state that at least one copper wire must match the tile you are on. Whilst the copper wires do match they aren’t matching against the tile Jen is on.

    I loved Island and Desert but...
    I'm finding this game to be insanely difficult and I'm still only experimenting on the Novice level with 3 players. There's just too much wind and lightning with way too few actions to counter it. With only 4 actions per turn, it's not enough to draw tiles, place tiles, repair health, repair rope, connect circuits, and move between tiles to get anywhere.
    Is anyone else finding this to be a problem?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you're not alone, i've seen others complain that the difficulty level is off the chart and it's too unpredictable. the key to success is playing defensively... building with save havens in mind, not hooking up power until you absolutely have to, etc.

      Im the same, played the first 2 games with my little cousin and he was fine with both of them with just a little help. This game resulted in us all dying after maybe 6 turns, we played again and lost after 8 turns. this seems like way too much of a jump compared to the previous games. so much so that my little cousin no longer wants to play the rest of the series when it comes out which is a shame as he was loving Island and Desert.

    I really like Leacock's games and the Forbidden series, but I can't really stand the unnecessary plastic components. These being wooden markers would not have taken anything from the gameplay experience imo.
