For the video style, it depends. I like the voice over most of the time so I can listen and do other things, especially when I’m still studying how to do it. I prefer the subtitles as a reference when I’m under the hood and can quickly scroll to the one piece of technical data I need.

Thank you for breaking the videos down! I like the option to have both types of videos....one for searching specific repairs and one giving more context regarding the evolution of findings and repairs to your Crosstrek. As long as you can tell what was repaired somehow in each video by doing a keyword search, then one long video is fine for quick and relatively simple repairs.

As always another great video! I am one of those subscribers that has seen both formats of your videos and would appreciate both types. Obviously a lot of time involved so I whatever works is fine with me.
Now about the Subaru oil filter. I have used the OEM filter for the first 36k miles of ownership on my car. At that time I was doing all the service work according to the maintenance chart in my owners manual and used all Subaru parts, kept all receipts, and logged all work done (majority is oil changes). Once I was out of the warranty period for the car I decided to use the Purolator Boss filter and Valvoline oil and used it for a time.
When I saw your video on all the different oil filters and research from other people who did cutaways I leaned toward a Wix XP filter 57055XP (2014 Impreza Premium). To my surprise I drove the car for two days and the filter leaked, not badly, but it started to fill the tray of the timing cover it screws onto. So for my own piece of mind I drained the oil and changed the filter to a Car Quest (Blue) 84712 and have been content.
I examined the Wix filter visually and did not take apart and saw nothing unusual. I placed oil on the seal prior to installation and there were no double stacked gaskets so I’m stumped. I have used Wix before on other cars with no problem so scratching my head on this one, but just wanted to let everyone know. I still have the filter intact on the shelf.
BTW when Advanced Auto runs their oil special the Car Quest filter with 5 gallons of oil is usually around $29. As I’m sure you know my car calls for 5.1 quarts so I bite the bullet on the first round and buy the extra quart of oil which lasts for a time as 0.1 quarts is around 3.2 oz. I’m done🙂

For repair videos might i suggest a hybrid? Talking and instructions on screen. This way one could pause on the instruction if needed and listen through your explanation. I’ve found during car repairs i do a lot of pausing and rewinding. I really do enjoy the new format when it comes to explanation/discussion.

Love your content. I have a 2014 Crosstrek with 58,000 mile on it. This summer I will be replacing CVT fluid. I ordered it this winter and have been waiting for warm weather. I'm going to be using Red Line 30804 Non-Slip Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid. I ordered 12 quarts to do a drain and fill run a week and do another drain and fill. That way I will get as much old fluid out as I can. I like Red Line products. I replaced the Front and rear Diff oil with Red Line 57904 (75W90) Synthetic Gear Oil. I replaced the spark plugs last fall with Subaru plugs. It's a piece a cake to do it with a short wobble extension and a thin wall spark plug socket. I run Motul 108536 Eco-Lite Synthetic 0W-20 oil in it. I change it every 5000 miles with a Purolator BOSS PBL14615 oil filter. The manual says every 7500 miles but I prefer a shorter duration. No oil consumption between changes. Replaced the front rotors with Bosch 48011475 QuietCast Premium Disc Brake Rotor. OEM Rotors needed to be turned and the cost of turning them at the Subaru dealer was more expensive than buy new one’s. Replaced Brake Pads with, Hawk Performance HB711Z.661 Front and Hawk Performance HB557Z.545 Ceramic Brake Pads rear. Fantastic pads with a much better braking performance, no noise and low dust than the OEM pads. My rear hatch gas springs wore out and replaced them with Lift Supports Depot springs. Cost me 60.00 for a set of two. Dealer wanted 80.00 for one OEM spring. Really excited to see you do the CVT fluid replacement. The correct fill fluid level is temperature specific really interested to see how you do that. I love Subie's they last a long time if you take care of them. I have a 05 Forester with 272,000 on it runs great and doesn't burn oil.

This Car would be a good Vermont car when Mr. Subaru is all done working on it. Here in Vermont - People drives lots of Subaru's - they call it the "Official Car of Vermont" in some of the TV Ads. Being a "Southern Car" with no rust - this Crosstrek would get a good price up here. We get so much snow & ice up here that the State + Town has to put down lots of salt to melt it. The Cars & Trucks really suffer. I really think it would be worth it to watch Mr. Subaru buy a car & then do what repairs or tune ups that it needed - Then travel down to South Carolina & purchase it from him...

I didn't mind your southern accent and it does take me awhile to get used to it 😅, and I like your video that show people how to do things 🎉 my brother's car needs a part replacement in the engine a mechanic wants to charge him three thousand dollar 😭 to do it, he didn't want to do it, but he fixed it 😅 I asked him how did he do it, he said he watched some yt videos on how to do it so on a long weekend he rented a engine lift thing and with help of his sons they got it done 😅🎉 I was impressed because the car is a BMW M7 😱 he took the engine apart change the part which he ordered online and put everything back together 😢, I have a Subaru repair manual It does have details instruction on how to do it but watch your video on how to do it and the tips he gives that is something a manual can't give me so I 👍👍👍 for you to do it, but it mean more work for you I hope you can continue to make this type of video 🎉 because a mechanic is just too expensive and I don't know if he is telling the truth 😢, my mom told me s story about my aunt, when she brought a car, because she didn't know anything about cars so she took a Auto repair class in highschool, I was surprised 😅 because she has a PhD and a professor at UCLA tough there for a long time and yet she knows nothing about how a car works mechanically so she took the class to have an idea on how car works, sometimes I was wondering when she was in the classroom does her classmates or the teacher know about her, they may think she is just a middle age woman in the class 😅 wanted to go back school and they might be surprised if they have known about her, after I heard the story I had a different respect for my aunt she is not just an aunt to me she is some one know what she needs and go ahead to get the knowledge she needed I don't have a PhD but fixing a car should not be a hard thing to do 😅, and I was wrong I lifted up the hood and see all the wires and tubes in there and I am lost 😭 and since I had own two Subaru your video is a great help for me 🎉👍

I changed the front and rear diff oil in my daughters 2011 Impreza and I re-used the plug washers because I never found the washers in any on-line parts books. No leaks after 2 weeks so I am sure I am OK. I will be watching for those part numbers in your upcoming video.
I have also been using the blue A15A oil filters. I am looking forward to seeing what you recommend as an alternative. No problems with them, but I know I am paying a premium filter price (~$10 on Amazon) and not getting a premium filter.

I had a LOT of loose oil in my PCV valve and dripping out of the hole after removal when I changed it recently ( Not a RU ). Mine was Horizontal. I used a very Thin coat of plumbers grease on the threads and a touch on the engine cover peg rubbers and PCV Nipples too . . . works for me. What I learned about my engine filter box . . . there's usually a large accumulation of dirt in the box ( mine is verticle) on the snorkel side of the filter. I wash out the lid then vac and damp rag the box then install the new filter.

If and when I purchase a new / used car I may consider one of these just because they offer it in a manual transmission from my searches. Thats after the economy crashes and half the population is unemployed and trying to find work. Don't want a cvt ever again. Got 192k out of my nissans before it said "bye bye", no other major repairs. Usual normal maintenance is all.

Am I the only one who saves the old serpentine belt in the spare tire holder just in case I need it?

Fram filters no good my friend cut one of those open brand-new out-of-the-box Watch What Happens there's rust on the post filter side on the inside of those things and there's only one place it can go all right to your engine

You should tell him to put the old belt in in the back trunk for a spare

Would you recommend using the 5W30 (Fully Syntethic) instead of the 0W20 Engine Oil in my 2015 Crosstrek XV to prevent possible oil consumption? Since Subaru recommends the 5w30 for their turbo models.

Hi, thx for your great videos. I drive a 2013 crosstrek (XV called here in DE) with a FB16 / 114 HP machine with 148.000 miles. I had to change AC compressor recently and took cheaper NRT instead of original Valeo. Is this a disadvantage in your eyes? Krgds, Thomas

I'm looking at a 2013 Crosstrek with about 200k km on it for a good price. Anything you recommend I keep a look out for before buying it

Just discovered the oil consumption this year on my 13' Crosstrek with 155k miles when my low oil level light came on around 3k. What should I do? Fix it? Or trade up?
