Really like this build. Sorry to add to the armchair quarterbacking, but in the future I recommend leaving one of the nuts on the threaded rod before you cut. Then you can back the nut off and it will fix any of the threads that were botched in the cutting process. Will reduce the risk of not being able to thread a nut on after the cut. Thanks for the vid!
This is by far the best looking miter stand I have seen. Even though I didn't need the angles on the front for clearance, I added them anyway, just for the look. The OSB is the perfect look for this.
So I think you tube is in my head for real. Just last night after I got through doing a small project with my miter I was thinking on how a portable miter saw station would be nice. I was going to draw up some plans for one but I think I might have to steal your design. I need to make a few adjustments for storing it but this is awesome. Thank you!
This would be even more awesome with an ambulance stretcher base, where you lift one set of legs that snaps in place, then lift the other to get the table.
Great job . Some folding legs instead of saw stools would make it even better. Going to try something like that based on this design. Thanks for sharing.
Great idea! Thanks for all the effort of setting up cameras, lighting, scripting, filming, voicing over and the soooo much video/audio editing that goes into a cohesive video tutorial. Or as we call it on TH-cam, "sharing." :-) I've got a mitre saw that needs a version of this, so it'll go on the "things to consider when I rebuild the layout of that wall" list. A quick thought as a way to say thanks; The extension stop could double as a lifting, or even steering handle, maybe with the extension locking into it.
Great Video, I love the wheels Idea, So I'm now officially stealling this awesome idea. Your Mitre Saw station is great the way it is. However have you thought of taking it to the next level by adding a couple of detachable fences to each side of your saw, they could be attached with star knobs and threaded inserts and then stowed inverted inside the left and right supports. You could add a T track and tape measure on these which would allow you to make accurate repeatable cuts. (if you want to go that far) Personally one upgrade I would deffinitly recommend is having a way to make your extended side support fit on either side. It would not take much to incorporate this and then gives you options.
Nice work, I’ve been planning something like this for a while after making my own version of the Paulk workbench some years ago, and you’ve created almost exactly what I was thinking. Well done, and thanks for the inspiration and well made video!
I think I'm going to do something like this as well, I like this design. I'm going to glue everything though. It would help if you prime it with an oil-based primer and then throw some paint on it. You could even spray paint it over the top of the oil base primer, this will help keep that stuff from swelling if it draws any moisture.
I just bought my 1st mitre saw. As my workshop isn't that big, I've been thinking how I can get it outside. I think you've just provided me with the solution, Cheers.
This is exactly what I need, awesome video. Will there be any plans available for this? I know its not an extremely difficult project but some plans to reference to would be nice.
a great idea! I would love to build something like this but I would have to use bigger wheels as all my tools live at the bottom of the garden with a few steps along the way
so was this entire table built with one or 2 sheets of OSB. Looking at purchasing my first miter and trying to determine if I should just build a table or purchase one of the many miter saw stands
Torsion box construction Is extremely strong. I like the build except for the material. Too heavy. 1/2 inch plywood wood be strong enough and a lot lighter.
Nice work. I wonder if the detachable wing could have a leg that folds down so you don't need the roller stand. Of course, always improvements can be made to everything which isn't always the goal.
Great workshop project. Thanks for sharing. Can you share which chamfer bit you like to use on your workshop tools? Curious if you prefer less/more angle or recommendations for general work if you can buy only one.
Two small tips. Use a small length of PVC or EMT on your all thread and the clamps you used will fit better as will the all thread inside to pipe. Second, when cutting a threaded rod first run a nut on the side you want. Cut it then run the nut off the rod. It will straighten the threads back out. Of course it will not remove the sharp edge on the rod. Nice build but I bet it is a bit heavy to move around, still nice though.
Thanks for the video!! Question: if you still need to carry 2 saw horses to support this mobile station, why not just a miter saw stand with extra support legs on extension wings?
Nice job. Great narration and video. Thanks for sharing. Did you ever consider drilling holes in the frame to support the all thread instead of using clamps?
Nice project. In concept it looks like a lot of prefab miter saw stands, minus the folding legs. Looks like it wouldn't be too hard to add those as well, but we all have sawhorses around, right?
How do you plan to attach stop blocks to the wings? I assume you will probably to screw them down but I would be worried that it might shift slightly when driving the screw in. Doesn't seem like there's a good way to clamp to that surface. But I don't think its worth making a fence or installing t-track...not sure what's a good option in between! I'm sure you can come up with something
Hey cool project that I might be using soon, could you answer honestly about which saw you would buy if you were on the market for one again Kapex or Dewalt, does the flex volt last long in real life use
I wouldn’t buy the Kapex, it’s ridiculously expensive. The Flexvolt lasts a very long time and has a plug-in adapter if you want to run it corded. The Bosch Glide is also a great option.
Hey, so I used your video on the router table you built and am making the same but a bit taller with a third drawer split in 2 with a plywood top. Thanks! Anyway, I am really loving woodworking and would like to do it full time. I'm 36 and welding inspector by trade, but don't now how to make the switch. I basically just build furniture for my house so far and friends love it. How do you have access to such a big shop outside of your garage, and how do you make a living doing it? Any feedback helps.
No, because the boxes to the L and R of the saw are only open on 3 sides. The 4th side next to the saw is closed. So IF the wing fits into the opening, it would only insert as far as the width of a single box.
does your sawstop jobsite pro have a small bow in the sliding extension table? for the life of me, I cannot get it to be flat and im trying to figure out why its high in the middle. Every time I try to move the fence it catches on it :/. Also, how do you cut bigger than 25" when ripping, as I havent figured out how to do it without building a table that lines up with it and building a matching rail system?
Any idea how heavy it is in total? I want to hang it on my wall for storage so I want to be able to lift the whole thing up onto hooks. I am guessing the saw is around 50lbs and the cabinet looks to be about 50lbs, making 100lbs total. Is that pretty close? Im totally going to copy you and build one, its freaking amazing man. im going to try to make the cabinet part lighter though.
Am I missing where you talk about the sizes you cut? You did a great job showing each step BUT you went through so fast, I couldn't determine sizes based on things lying around. Next video, take more time, they'll be better.
Some hinges and 6x6 posts would make the saw horses be built in... And like others have said use a pair of nuts on the threaded rod to set the cut length and when you pull the nuts off you will not have burrs.
For a table like this with those dimensions if you use plywood it would need to be 3/4" thick, that will make a very heavy table with the saw attached.
Advantech subfloor is good stuff. Basically 3/4” thick, and holds up to water very well. Huber states it can be left outside installed for 500 days before needing to sand the seams.

That's the first thing I thought of, too.
That's how I always do it except when I forget, which I sometimes do.
Good choice on wearing safety toed boots ........I always wear them in my shop , they have saved me more than one time

Totally. When he was pulling out and setting up the sawhorses, was immediately thinking flip down legs would be perfect.
Good build. Thanks for sharing.
Genius. One of those ideas that makes you say, "why the hell didn't I ever think of that?!"
Sorry for missing this video but I will build this for my future shop
Great job .

Much better than my POS harbor freight one. 😁
Hah, that was pretty much my goal, build something better than a store bought version!

Terrific build Johnny! I can tell that you are going to get a lot of use out of that stand. 👍👍😉😉

Using another miter saw to make a miter saw station for another miter saw. Very meta, Mr. Brooks. Very meta, indeed.

Regarding pocket holes where MDF is 0 and Plywood is 9, where would you rate OSB in strength?
Question: Why not use glue on the primary assembly? Do you have a rule of thumb when you will or won't?
Great videos, thanks for sharing.
I wondered too
I'm putting money on a collab with the Perkin's boys :D Super looking forward to it!
Your saw horses are different , you may want to do a show on them. Lov your work .

3/8 bx staps on the rdy rod would work good

Absolutely love this idea. Definitely going to have to duplicate it.
Nice project. In concept it looks like a lot of prefab miter saw stands, minus the folding legs. Looks like it wouldn't be too hard to add those as well, but we all have sawhorses around, right?
If the wheels were at the other end, that support block could also act as the stand for when it's upright
TIP: leave a nut on the threaded rod before cutting the rod, then back the nut off the rod to clean up the cut threads.
someone beat me to that tip...
@@seanj-ski1352 and you beat me so he's got it three times now lol

I’m probably going to route in a keyhole slot so I can use t-track stops. That or just clamp a square, which I’ve done a number of time.
Thread a nut past the cut point, cut, then remove the nut. It’ll clean up the threads, removing the burr on the way out
Yup, I did do that but it was still a little sharp! Don't want to cut myself on that edge in the future.
Hi do you have a picture of the wheel adjustment for you could stand it up? Great just like the rounded holes for less weight

Question: what kind of clamps are the orange ones you use?? Very cool!!
Thanks! Those clamps are many by Pony Jorgensen : amzn.to/3pR2MJ0
Exactly what I need! Question: Does the extension wing fit inside the stand when not in use?
No, because the boxes to the L and R of the saw are only open on 3 sides. The 4th side next to the saw is closed. So IF the wing fits into the opening, it would only insert as far as the width of a single box.
Any chance you have parts measurements for the mitter stand? How wide is the deck? I'm vacillating between a wooden frame and welding a metal one.

Hi Johnny, quick question, i saw a 9 tool dewalt kit on amazon for 500$ would you recommend it? 20v max

No, those were just sawhorses I had on hand. Any sawhorse should work fine!

Nice! What’s the weight on that baby?
Any thoughts on having a notched spot in the top surface to accept the extension rather than the block?
I was wondering that too. Google says a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 OSB is 80lbs and I would guess he used most of a full sheet.
