It's crazy to me that Hollywood is always trying to turn every female main character into a girl boss, sometimes to the detriment of the character, yet Wonder Woman is an actual girl boss, in lore and as a symbol, and nobody ever bothered to market her.
I know, what do Hollywood think that writing fictional female character as girl bosses is stupid, i mean, they are almost writing as female villains themselves! It's just my opinion, folks, okay.
The thing is, she’s one the most powerful Women in fiction but Hollywood writers think that to write a strong woman, you have to make her a man. These people need to look at WW for reference on how to do it right. She’s tough and admirable even without being some beat em up thug.
Personally I think the main problem is that everyone overthinks the character. Wonder Woman is cool. Start with that. Writers talk a lot about how deep and important Superman and Batman are but at the end of the day people think they're cool first. That's what invites people to think more deep about them. That's what works about Absolute WW. It does some interesting things with the story but it starts by just making her cool. Not by talking your ear off about what she means to the world. Again.
That dumb. Anything can be turn cool. Hell this video just glaze all her power and accomplish. Batman and superman , you know from the start what theyre fighting for.
@Watch-0w1 That's not true they've been trying to make Aqua man cool for years, and his only just gotten that status in Live action and even the dude that made him cool still makes fun of him. WW is great, but she could have some more cool moments. The Livae action did a good job at that with her theme music.
@@jortharob3406 I can't agree with that. Look at this video, is glazing with cool moment. She need flaw as d have some sense of relatedness. Aquaman sillyness what make him fun character. Problem with him is he can't work outside the sea( without making him a big punchy guy). He the aqua guy in a rescue squad. Only way I see he work in justice league, if he bring water with him like aqualad in young justice. He basically a water bender.
@Watch-0w1 Aquaman is not a water bender like Aqualad and Mera, but he can talk with animals. Even on land, he still has great strength, reflexes and speed. He's basically a weaker version of Superman that can not fly, but he's still useful. Much more than Batmam without plot armor.
@Watch-0w1 To me, her flaw should be her want to go home. She shouldn't be able to come and go from the Amazon Island her superhero journey should only be a second job to her finding a way home. I like that she's a woman without a family and has to show compassion to those in similar situations. Also, it fits with other memebers of the Trinity.
Fans: We want a Wonder Woman series DC: Okay we get you want an iconic female character from the DC universe to have their own show, How about a Harley Quinn series? Fans: .....
True bro I'm DYING to see Helen Wayne as Huntress fight alongside Bruce and Salina but I can't HAVE IT DC PLEASE include the other female characters 😭😭😭😭
@@alexferrana3979 Yes, everyone only supports Robbie and her Harley, but they demonstratively bully Gadot and her Wonder Woman. Is it because Gadot didn't film nude, unlike Robbie, or what?
I mean is it really discrediting if what they say is true Wonder woman isn't a top seller for dc and hasn't been for a while Its understandable if people question why
@@ryice944And have you ever wondered why? It's not because of a lack of fans, just look at the comments section. Rather, it's because of DC's lack of interest in exploring the character, they don't give her the visibility she deserves outside of comics. Compare the amount of stuff Batman and Superman have. If she had a decent amount of movies, or at least an animated series exploring the character more, believe me, she would be successful, because people do like Wonder Woman. And I'll give you the example of the new version of Wonder Woman, from the Absolute universe, which is attracting the attention of quite a few people who had no interest in WW at all.
@wonderwomanredson yh cause it's nothing like the main cannon universe her in the main universe sucks tbh I tried reading her main line comics a couple times they weren't for me Idk even know how she got fans with those comics no wonder people gravitate to other characters making her third spot at dc be questioned
@@ryice944 Her latest issues are doing great, her absolute universe version got sold out really fast, lately when writers actually care about her again she has been doing better
Her always being reinvented by every new writer really hasn’t done her justice. There are fundamental aspects of Batman that are almost commonly used. Such as his morality, location, origin, and cast. But then you have Wonder Woman, where people can’t make up their minds on what’s her main cast? Who’s her main villain is? What location is she gonna be locked into? Even something as basic as her origin can’t ever be fully cemented. When you look at someone’s history like Batman, even though he’s had many writers reinvented him (like Julius Schwartz, Dennis O’Neil, Frank Miller, Grant Morrison, Scott Snyder, etc) they always build off of the original premise/stories from Bill Finger & Bob Kane. But every damn new writer for Wonder Woman almost tries to completely redefine the concept instead of building off what came before
You could also apply this to her having the lasso as her primary weapon vs. her using a sword and shield primarily. Edit (for clarity): there are implications based on what weapons a character uses, e.g. a lasso would be used primarily for defense and containment, whereas a sword would play into a much more aggressive style. Of course these things aren't 1-to-1, but these aspects do play a role in defining who a character is.
@@ii-mp1sp WW84 failed because WB gave Patty Jenkins complete creative control and she wasn't capable of delivering the goods. Instend, she made $200 million fan-film, that was dedicated to the the Wonder Woman 70s TV show and brought Steve Trevor back simply for fan-service instend of something that was more in line with DCEU.
@@alonzopatton9977 The film would have been good if they had kept the old producers and writers. But the most important thing is that Marvel changes directors almost every two films (if not every other film) without changing actors, and DC, for some reason, ties actors to directors. What's the point?
The fact the we haven’t heard anything on the game is atrocious. That was supposed to be a contender for best superhero game ever considering it was rumored to have the free flow combat and have the nemesis system. Man they fumbling.
Wonder Woman doesn't have a well known job like how Superman and Batman are always going to be a reporter and CEO respectively. Meanwhile she has been a nurse, ambassador, fast food cook and anthropologist. That sounds like a good animated show with Wonder Woman entering Man's World and taking odd jobs while convincing villains that they can be better people.
@@julio.dealmeidabranconeto5831It's not that she has a secret identity, but the fact that she dedicates herself to a profession so that she can mingle with men, understand them and comprehend them seems very good to me.
You didnt mention she blinded HERSELF with one of medusa's hair snake heads to avoid petrification. Herself! Important detail. My goat Diana is her. Thank you, it's so annoying when I see people claim characters are boring because they're not the most relatable ever and quIppy.
And the whole reason she did all this Metal stuff was to simply save one innocent Boy that was turned to Stone and she was ready to die for one seemingly insignificant Young human.
Wonder Woman "Can I get a show" DC "No, because we are working on a doom patrol show" Batman "Can I get something" DC "we are giving you a 5 season show"
As much as it sucks to say, it makes perfect sense. Broadly speaking, an full animated series would only be made if a line of toys goes with it. Most boys (or at very least the parents of young boys) aren't going to buy girls toys, and girls toys are limited to being Barbie Doll rip-offs.
@@ligtningdog6399Yes, but if they marketed it towards girls as well, I feel like it could do well. I know young girls aren’t very particular on which pretty lady doll they can play house with, also she’s a good role model and I think parents would appreciate that.
@@ligtningdog6399 It make me wonder how her upcoming game will perform. Even if it's good we still have idiots saying "who care about wonder woman" yet they wonder why we'll keep getting Batman.
I also find that writers don't know how to write her its either she's a strong confident tough warrior or a compassionate courageous hero. no writer writes her like the last one does so that just creates so many inconsistentcies in her character unlike batman or superman who has already have good writers that define their personalities
Also I am conflicted on if they should make her fly in DCU. if she flies, they make her like a female Superman like DCAU while if she doesn’t like fly, she is an incredible combat fighter. While in DCEU, they managed to achieve nothing
Nah screw that I hope she flies, she’s always been able to fly and her Ariel combat some of the coolest fighting to see. Hella JL members fly and it’s never been a problem. By taking away her flight it’s a big nerf to the character
The real problem is DC pretending a character with an undefined personality is onpar with Superman, Batman and Todd Mcfarlane. Now people have unresolved expectations that and are compaining that DC didn't keep their promises in saying she is worthy of standing alongside them. Superman, Batman and Mcfarlane are such important figures DC that they have made a name for themselves as the Trinity, the pillars of DC, these 3 heroes have been considered legndary even among other heroes. Marketing her to stand beside the trinity without doing anything with her and it's no wonder why people are clamjng for more to make her earn being able to stand and be marketed beside the trinity
@@shawnjones7295 none of the combat fighters in justice league fly though and the ones who fly have a whole story explaining it. Hers just felt like it was added because she is a superhero
Yo! A clip with Sal! You have good taste, my friend. But yeah, I think I've said this before, but ironically the heroine steeped in mythology is the one people have the least faith in. They have such little faith in her, they dangled the keys of Harley Quinn in front of everyone. Y'know. For the female representation.
@@yourarchnemesis8453 I feel like they always try, but in most cases the writers write pretty badly. Tom Taylors run was horrible, so I'd chalk it up to a mixture of bad luck and lack of interest
Let's be honest, dc doesn't know what to do with any of their characters, that isn't Superman, Batman and Harley quinn, and they even barely do those characters justice.
@@Antiprincipl3I think Harley should not be in this conversation anymore. i feel like after the 5th upcoming season of her show, she'll be tossed aside since her books are flopping hard and not selling unlike two WW titles who are doing amazing in selling. they are trying too hard to make her Deadpool and thats backfiring massively. the suicide squad kill the justice league game and Joker 2 that bombed didn't help her character either. here's hoping this will make the incompetent WB try to focus on WW. hopefully her upcoming game will be good too and sells well
Also Diana is unlike Bruce or Clark doesn’t embrace the secret identity. She is public ambassador so that struggle with NOT HAVING A PERSONAL LIFE is sooo important compared to traditional heroes who hide behind their personas.
I think that's why they gave her a secret identity in the Linda Carter 70s live action show. It's easier having her be a military secretary who is really a superhero than having her be an ambassador of an entire island nation who is a superhero. The closest I've seen a version of that where it works is the Black Panther movie.
This is depressingly true. Wonder Woman is an amazing character that, despite being part of DC's trinity, is often brushed aside in terms of media outside comics, especially compared to how much content there is for Superman, and especially Batman. Put some respect on our girl's name, we're talking about the most popular female comic book character of all time here!!!
Unfortunately, most people have always perceived and perceive Wonder Woman as a sexualized Miss Fanservice complete with the Justice League. It even seems like the first movie was a hit only because she was attached to Superman, Batman and their potential history with Darkseid, but when the studio missed them, everyone immediately lost interest in Diana.
As a Wonder woman fan, the fans also disrespects Wonder woman, lots of fans really believe that Wolverine, Hulk, Ironman or Flash are more iconic and had a bigger impact than her (They don't) and also believe that Thor, Black Adam, Shazam and Rogue can beat her in a fight (They don't) she has to be one of the most disrespected superheroes ever.
@NHTube1 No they can't, Wonder woman has more powerfull feats than all of them and she literally has already defeated both Black Adam and Shazam, and she would also overstomp Thor and Rogue.
With your first point I don't know what to say. When I was a child I only saw her in the Justice League series (and I liked Diana a lot) but in those years I saw a lot more of the rest of the characters you mention. Today I have a different perspective but I also understand where the other arguments come from.
@@saviletotorres143 Becouse as this video said DC disrespects Wonder woman and doesn't gave her a solo animated series like Superman and Batman, still her impact is unmatched, she made the way for all the female superheroes and was one of the icons of the women rights movement, Wonder woman killed the Upside down man who was a threat beyond the multiverse and Rogue needs to touch her to absorb her powers, how is she gonna touch her if Wonder woman is x1000000 times faster and stronger than her, Diana speedblitz Rogue before she can even think.
5:38 if you’ve seen how black widow was handled in age of ultron and what Wonder Woman gags he added in Justice League, you know how much of a horndog Joss Whedon is. Bro is basically just a fanfic writer
When people talk about Wonder Woman, they usually talk about the few adaptations she has and make big assumptions, so I really appreciate the mentioning of the actual comic runs and events from the comics. Shows you actually understand her character, a surprising rarity.
Wonder Woman is so underrated, she’s probably and most definitely the most iconic female icon in all of fiction. So under appreciated that she gets it’s just so sad
It wasn't until I started reading Wonder Woman comics a few years back did I discover how awesome Diana is and made me realize how dirty she's been done in adaptations
The reason they miss the mark is that Wonder Woman COULD have cool villains by just mining Greek and Roman mythology FIRST! Her villains, like Superman’s should be Justice league level threats. You would also have to remove her being vulnerable to bullets. Someone on her level should not be able to get stopped by any thug with a gun and a lucky shot. Remove being a child of Zeus, so she earn respect by defeating her enemies. It’s also how she acquires some of her abilities that set her apart from her fellow amazons-like talking to animals, including fish-commonalities with aquaman and other animal based heroes.
New 52 kind of mined Greco Roman mythology too hard. Wonder Woman is obviously based on the myth of Pygmalion but she isn't literally Galatea of Cyprus. She's an Amazon, but not any known Amazons either. An Amazon created similar to Galatea of Cyprus, Diana of Paradise Island/Themyscira. I think most of her foes shouldn't literally be ripped straight out of the mythology, but spun out of it in similar manners she was. Like in her first solo series she runs a gauntlet against several agents of Mars with weird powers and gadgets before fighting the war god himself, and usually spends more time fighting his Duke, Count and Earl than Mars. Or in the Silver Age Mars backed several agents against her from Silver Swan to Nubia to Crimson Centipede to Orana, but rarely had to confront her himself. That's what Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis, Demeter and Hermes were for. Post Crisis Zeus might throw open Doom's Doorway, direct a centimane at her or resurrect The Gargareans against the Amazons, but she rarely had to punch Zeus herself. Athena could usually do that. Wonder Woman's a proxy, an agent, an employee, a champion to the god and goddesses. It makes sense that she'd primarily face rival employees, champions, agents, proxies or what have, and makes the times the actual gods show up in person more special.
It baffles me that no one knows how to write Wonder Woman despite her role in the DC Trinity being very clearly defined. Batman is the "grounded" superhero. His parents were gunned down by a basic criminal and his rogues are the Joker, Penguin, Two-Face, Catwoman, Scarecrow, and Bane. Characters like Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze are a bit more out there but, for the most part, they're all just dudes in costumes. Superman is the "sci-fi" superhero. He's an alien from another planet and his villains are Lex Luthor, Livewire, Metallo, Intergang, Zod, Brainiac, and Doomsday. On occasion, he has to deal with people like Mxyzptlk, but his rogues are aliens or technological in some way. Even Darkseid is a god of a technological planet. And Wonder Woman is the "fantasy" superhero. She's an immortal from an island of women, who was either made from clay or is the daughter of a god. Her villains are Cheetah, Ares, Circe, Medusa, and Dr. Psycho. Every now and then, she might have to deal with Giganta or Dr. Poison, but her rogues are mostly tied to myths and magicks. I think the only thing she's missing is healing powers or something like that, as that would better complete the Trinity. Batman is the cop: he's the world's greatest detective and he brings in the criminals. The police commissioner even has a pager for him on the roof! Supes is the firefighter: he deals more with disasters, his flight is the ladder, his strength is the ax and the jaws-of-life, his heat vision is the precision cutting tool, and his ice breath is the hose. He even shares the same pop culture image with firefighters of rescuing cats from trees. Give Diana healing powers and let her be the EMT. It even compliments her being there as an ambassador of peace and it gets her into the thick of things. She's already a mental healer as you can't begin to heal until the truth comes out... and she's got a lasso for that! I would also like to see Diana tackle the hypocrisy of "man's world being violent". Like... have you read Greek mythology? Hera is the recurring villain! Athena and Aphrodite aren't much better. Eros and Psyche; Heracles; Arachne; Medusa. Hell, all three of them contributed to the Trojan War! And that's just those three. Women and gods are any better! You can even have the whole Amazons who ravage and off sailor's for children be the Amazons of Bana-Mighdall and that all the Gargareans (that's what I call them, look it up) with Hephaestus are the sons of those Amazons that he saved by offering them weapons in turn for the kids. And while this might be just me, I feel that while we've gotten past the whole "superhero costumes are for children" nonsense in live action, there is a similar stigma of "magic is for children" that's still being fought. Remember, Thor was originally introduced as someone from a land of hypertechnology and Scarlet Witch's powers felt like "basic psychic" powers very early on, and it wasn't until Dr. Strange and Thor Ragnarok that magic came in properly to the MCU. Even Diana had Dr. Poison as her main villain in the first movie with Ares being much more a mystery. And the worst part about all this? I don't read comics and I feel like I have a better understanding of how Diana works. (Though I do have a lot of books about mythology.) Also, I prefer her forged from clay origin as the daughter of Zeus backstory is already Cassandra Sandsmark's.
Wonder Woman almost has healing powers. In the golden and silver age comic books, she was the one who invented the purple healing ray, and not just anyone can use it, as it works off of stuff the Amazons have that most others don't. Post Crisis the lasso of truth can "purge impurities from the body", correct some forms of madness, even undo some hexes-jinxes-curses and reset mind manipulation.(DC got really stretched the word truth as far as they could)
@@ii-mp1sp She headlined six comic books before joining The Justice Society, and continued to headline Sensation comics for another a hundred and ten issues or so with no mention of the society while getting her own solo series, that had nothing to do with the society, and headlining another anthology series next to Green Lantern and Flash, again with nothing to do with The Society. If you don't like or respect Wonder Woman, fine, but why lie? She was created as propaganda for William Marston's political views, and his political views were undeniably linked with his bondage fetish. No getting around that. But she was as independent as any other character DC published at the time.
Wonder Woman was the first to headline a comic book, but Nurse Psychic, Red Tornado, Hawkgirl and Phantom Lady were in comic books before her, even if they didn't have their own comic books, even if they weren't the main star of their own anthology series.
@@nightwing1491 yes it does. You got corrected. That simple. Just accept it like a man stop coping like a child. It’s not gonna kill you bro. You’re only human.
Wonder woman (injustice) ain't just trash in the movie. She does the same thing or worse in the game. Throw the entire Injustice universe away. Much like marvel's old ultimate universe, it's ass, game and comics.
Bruce Timm Kind of hit it on the nose. The biggest problem with WW is that she’s a contradictory unto herself. The first Gal Gadot film did a pretty decent job with her personality. She’s naive and curious but matures as she’s goes. What she needs IMO is a new/expanded rogue’s gallery. Diana is too OP, so villains like Cheetah and Giganta just don’t cut it.
She literally is the best female lead character/template for a strong woman as a protagonist for a movie/TV series but it is criminal how neglected she is and the terrible female leads we are getting recently. That's why i was so HYPED for her own game as the potential for Themiscyra is insane, Gal was a good attempt but we can definitely improve. Casual audiences outweigh the fansbase we are strong but casuals are many that's why we need good to FANTASTIC adaptations as more people would get into comics to learn more about her character.
Diana is also diplomatic wayyy more than any other DC hero with her experience as a princess not just as warrior which make her one of the most understanding and pragmatic especially as an international figure. For her the identity of Wonder Woman is how the world sees her not intrinsically who she is.DIANA IS DIANA WHILE THE WORLD SEES HER AS THE EXCEPTIONAL but even Diana the person despite using this role to push the fight for rights and equity is still insecure in her position afraid that her people and her gods chose the wrong person for the mission of peace.
I think its worth highlighting her involvement with magical things, like the Rebirth Justice League Dark run with her. So many cool opportunities with magic and greek mythology making it very distinct compared to the more sci-fi aspects of the mcu(also I don't want to see nano-tech bs helmets)!
I’m just getting into wonder right now. And it’s actually thanks to you and the videos you’ve posted about her on her channel. Honestly, the other reason I wanted to get into Wonder Woman and will consider to do so is . . . I admit it, I am extremely attracted to the kind of woman Diana is. Everything that she is not just incredibly interesting and appealing to me as a man, whether it be her appearance, and oh god there’s something about women having muscles like I see her portrayed in some art that’s just so appealing, or not. But I think what mainly draws me to her (other than her beauty) is how admirable and honorable as a woman she is. Personally as a man I desire a woman who has a lot of mental strength. Almost the same mental strength as strong men have through vigorous training and stoicism. While also keeping in mind her feminine side and not loosing her inherently emotional nature. And that’s exactly what Diana is. This comes from her many long years of training, both to master her emotions, and to learn the best way to fight. She’s not about to cry because a minor inconvenience happened or something really bad happened like a car accident. She’s is able to maintain composure in such situations. And yet she is also not so stoic to the point where she doesn’t cry when something is truely terrible. Like in that one comic (I haven’t read it all the way through yet, and I can’t remember what the name was) in which she seeped because after finding out her own sisters slaughtered their amazoning secret brothers, she finds the one man who survived, and he has nothing but hatred and resentment towards her sisters and Diana herself. To me this is so admirable in a woman. And it’s the kind of woman that I would like to marry one day. Then you have her moral principles and codes of honor. I’ve noted her compassion throughout the comics has been unmatched by a lot of characters, as you pointed out. Even people who bitterly hate her like Cheetah (or that one girl with the silver wing's and red hair? Can’t remember name) she still tries to empathize and sympathize with them, because she knows what plagues their hearts and why they choose to do evil. I like that you pointed out that with a lot of people, heroes or villains, she tries desperately to understand and sympathize with them. And that doesn’t go to talk about all of the compassionate acts she done, and the moral code she abides by. A woman who truly embodies what both a wife and a mother should be, in my opinion. I am so glad to be getting into each Wonder Woman story. I have quickly found her to be one of my favorite super heroes, if not my favorite, out of every one. She trumps Venom, she trumps Batman even. And very soon, she will probably dethrone miles morales. She’s that excellent of a character in my eyes. I guess the last thing I can ask in this comment is can you recommend to me any of the best Wonder Woman comics please? I have barely become a fan and am barely getting into her.
she was perfectly realisesd in the justice league dark comic run. her and circe have an incredible dynamic. and her friendship with Zatanna is so underrated x
@@therighteousboys446 It was a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy on DC's part. Give the writer who doesn't like writing Wonder Woman the longest stint on her book, even as sales decline after every member of the original creative team keeping the writer who doesn't like her in check leaves the company or dies. I wonder why her book has largely struggled since? Now Rob Kanihger did a good job, at first. In some ways he was a better writer than Marston or Hummel, but once Harry Peter was dead and quality, and sales, were declining, when fans were writing so many angry letters DC felt the need to address them in the comic book itself, MAYBE it was time to put another guy on the book? A gal even? Joyce Hummel was still alive! Kanihger was overworked at that point, it only makes sense the projects he enjoyed the least would suffer most, but seeing the writing on the wall DC just kept along until the company's 1970s implosion. Say what you want about Tom King. I personally dislike his current Wonder Woman run, but it's clear he doesn't dislike the character, and the book under him is one of DC's best sellers.
"We can't pinpoint Wonder Woman" when in doubt, go for the Gail Simone take. “We have a saying, my people. Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue if you can pacify, and don’t raise your hand at all until you’ve first extended it” is one of, if not THE Wonder Woman quote. At the same time, if they truly want something different from her than from the boys, they should lean into the historical/archaeological aspect of it all. Like, a Lara Croft-style hunt for a lost city or an artifact that turns out to be magical in origin would be a nice way to go about it & to also introduce some of the magic-wielding DC heroes. Like, perfect segue into Justice League Dark, and actually bringing characters like Zatanna or John Constantine or Dr Fate or hell, bringing in Raven if they really want to go for a cash grab
What I always loved about her is how she never treated her male counterparts as less. She proves how badass she is by doing the job. She warned everybody's respect by being a real character not a girl boss.
The issue I see is we don't have clear vision of what type of Wonder Woman is. Batman is a realistic hero. He makes the world a better place by uncovering and dressing the issues of his city. And he solves sed issues through planning and ingenuity. But he's not relatable. Superman is an idealistic hero. He inspires us to be better and has the ability to save the world no matter how dire the situation is. But he's one of the most relatable down to earth characters in fiction. Wonder Woman is supposed to be an empowering hero, but the fact that every female hero is supposed to be empowering and Wonder Woman's shaky past kinda muddy that image. I say go the Captain America rout and make her a hero out of time. Show us the best and worst parts of modern life from the perspective of an outsider.

I really hope we do get more Wonder Woman solo media in the future, especially with James Gunn's DCU on the way and the announced Paradise Lost series in the works, not to mention James Gunn teasing the idea of a Wonder Woman Animated Series, which DESPERATELY hope happens some day soon because she absolutely deserves a series that showcases her character and mythos in a compelling and interesting way, diving into her compassion and love for man's world when man has proven to be so cruel. Yet, her purity and belief are so heartwarming. She is more than a warrior and expert fighter; shes a princess of her people, an ambassador to Themyscira, a peacekeeper who believes in others and uses love and compassion as her greatest strength, and a lover of animals and nature, practically a goddess of truth; there's so much to her that could be explored plus she also has an incredibly underrated roster of villains with a lot of storytelling potential like Cheetah, Circee, Ares, Giganta, Doctor Poison, Doctor Cyber, Doctor Psycho, Silver Swan, Egg Fu, Blue Snowman, Grail, Veronica Kale, Angle Man, Zeus & The Greek Gods etc...
It's unlikely that they will focus on Wonder Woman, Cringe Gunn made it clear that his main female character will be Supergirl (and his wife's character) and Margot Robbie along with her Harley. P.S.: They should have supported Gadot and Jenkins.
@@ii-mp1sphow did he make anything clear? He’s already indicated that he’s interested in making multiple wonder woman projects, that being the animated series and the paradise lost series. I don’t know why you think he won’t have Wonder Woman projects, considering he’s already shown that he loves the character, and also considering she’s 1/3 of the trinity. Like him or not, Gunn has given tons of hints that he knows what he’s doing.
19:55 Yeah, it seems like most superhero media these days (Disney owned Marvel in particular) confuse depth of character with "how often do they quip" or "how relatable are they". That's why Marvel studios have no issue with turning Thor, a centuries old, noble warrior prince from a mystical realm who's known for talking in verbose Shakespearian dialect into an airheaded frat boy who makes dumb jokes. All just to make him more "relatable". Thor doesn't need to be a relatable, down to Earth guy to be interesting and the same totally applies to Wonder Woman.
Thor, famous for fishing for a snake bigger than the planet Earth and throwing lightning bolts at trolls trying to invade the nine world of Yggdrasil. That's totally a relatable character and not some god to stand in awe of!
I can’t believe joss Wedon who wrote one of the best female characters that being Buffy the vampire slayer would have wrote something like that for a Wonder Woman movie
To my knowledge he was a creep even back then, I think he just had other people around to keep him in check. You see that with a lot of creators, they get popular and surround themselves with people who fall over themselves to such that creator’s dick(or clit in JKR’s case), and then from there they just start pumping out absolute dog shit with no one to tell them when their ideas are trash.
At this point, this guy might as well make a "DC Hates and Disrespects" video for every DC character. Edit: Except for Batman, Joker, Harley Quinn, and The Suicide Squad.
More likely never had a woman carry the story. Not that I sympathize. Woman who exists only to be part of a man's story, or even more, only exists to push a man's story forward, they've definitely written those. It's like the early Spider-Man comic books. Mary Jane was the only woman who both had a life outside of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and still had any plot relevance. Then writers wondered why she was the most popular woman in the story.
its insane how Harley Quinn got her own sequal video game and a series while my girl Zatanna or wonder woman didn't. Dc just stop with the deadpool thingy its not gonna work, she did horrific crimes, just focus on ur wonder woman and zatanna and ur other characters, yall have interesting character, Harley is just a villian

Wonder Woman's core principles are truth, hope, and justice. She actively pursues truth, strives for the betterment of humanity, and seeks justice for the vulnerable. Wonder Woman is a relentless advocate for those unable to defend themselves, fighting tirelessly to the end. Her unwavering commitment to those she cares for is absolute. Wonder Woman consistently demonstrates compassion for humankind, recognizing both its virtues and flaws. She dedicates herself to cultivating humanity's inherent goodness, and the fact that comic writers struggle to see that astonishes me.
I have no ides why people only focus on Bruce Timm's opinion. What he built, he built it with Paul Dini, and after the animated products he produced, as well as his comics we know who had the better ideas.
I’m glad you said it but it’s DCs fault. They have put ALL their eggs into the Superman and Batman basket even so much that Wonder Woman, their third biggest character seems like they don’t matter
@Garthmoonstar Right! I don't usually believe a writer needs to be the same sex as the character they're writing, nor so I usually believe that 'you don't have learned experience so you can't write this type of character', but if these guys are struggling so hard, maybe they really do need to give a woman the reins. At the very least, co-write with one.
The paradox is being "wise" and "headstrong". The implication that the wise should not be headstrong. What's actually being said is wisdom means make no mistakes ever. What is actually being said is headstrong means never thinks anything through. What they're saying is that they're faced with actual potential character flaws to write around that they don't know how to. They're the kind of writers who need a simply hit things character like Guy Gardner, or a hands clasping always schemer like Amanda Waller. Get that inherent complexity off of me!
@@insupportofjunhado 😂 You know, one of my favorite comic depictions of Diana was from... oh man, I don't remember the arc's name now, the one where Batman's contingency tools against each League member were stolen and used against them, and hers was a neurological implant that would render her physically unconscious and convinced she was fighting against an impossibly strong foe. Batman's purpose behind it was his understanding that she would never kneel in defeat, so she would continue fighting in this scenario in her head, while her heart rate and other parts of her real body responded and would eventually fell her from exhaustion and heart failure. It was such a specific, small moment in the grand scheme of decades of content, but the same arc never portrayed her as irrational or cruel. She was mature, wise, strong, but her honor as an Amazon and Diana of Themyscira wouldn't allow her to relent. That fact also was never spun as a negative, as I read it, but as a positive to her steel will and force as a woman, superhero and Wonder Woman. Sort of a, "Hey, facts are facts," thing. idk I loved her growing up, and it's so depressing that she's so 'difficult' to write.
I think it's because people don't know how to balance her with flaws. If her character flaw is naivety, she can't be wise. If it is rage, she can't be compassionate, etc. Eg batman doesn't let himself heal from his trauma. superman's strict moral code can be inadequate for certain cynical situations. But what are wonder woman's weaknesses?
I have a few things to say that may sound out of pocket but hear me out. While i agree WW should be the one with the most attention but general audiences gravitate towards Harley because she's hot and Crazy, yes WW is hot but she's not crazy, plus DC constantly pushes Harley because she's Batman related. speaking of which and not to sound misogynistic people would rather gravitate towards Batman and superman (Mainly glaze Batman) and it's not necessarily the audiences fault. It's funny how DC won't have an issue publishing books (even absolute WW) but are hesitant when it comes to giving her an animated series. I'm surprised she got 2 live action and animated films. DC legit doesn't know what to do with her despite understanding her character. You got people saying Superman is "boring" or OP to make interesting stories but that didn't stop DC from making multiple Superman movies, shows and games. And the reason why people talk about the films/cartoons (myself included) is because general audiences don't read comics so it's to be expected i tend to read comics until the end Dark knights death metal
@@Achieme Alright fine, I judged your comment too quickly. So I actually do agree with most of your comment. Except for why people gravitate towards Harley, it's not because she's crazy/hot ( Well, that's not the only reason. ) It's because she was well written and complimented the Joker's character perfectly. *THAT* and WB keeps spamming her everywhere trying to make her their version of Deadpool.
Her stubbornness could be a flaw some people can relate too. But her stubbornness comes from here wanting to do good only for something to hinder her in man’s world. That’s where the complex morals come into play. But even then without all that she’s still hype. Like I don’t get why general audiences have a hate boner for heroic good people. Like… That’s literally what comic book heroes are. Yall complaining about spider never catching a break and never allowed to grow up but ik if he was yall would say he’s boring.
People always compare Wonder Woman to Thor, but I always felt she was more akin to Capt America. She would start as a woman out of time, being head strong, then grow to be wise and compassionate. They don't use WW and her magical abilities well.
She's a bit of both. Her people view man's world as evil and irredeemable and Thor seeing humanity as worth fighting for while everyone in asgard questions what he sees in these mortals.
They really should've had Wonder Woman 1984 be instead set after Justice League rather than being set in the 80s of all things. I mean, if any of you people actually like and view it as guilty pleasure, more power to ya. I'm not trying act like a major negative jerk or anything, okay. I'm just some individual whose try not to be negative at nearly anything, almost nearly everything.
Unpopular opinion - characters existing for too long can be a problem (I think the same about this for Superman, Batman and most main DC characters). Sometimes I think we should just gently retire old characters with grace and let the NEW characters shine ✨ It gets to the point where anytime someone wants to do something with a character people will say, “he or she would never do that,” and the longer the character exists the more controversial it gets.
Yh WW in Injustice always felt wrong she should have been on Batmans side working with him and being used a trump card for Superman. That game had Batman on the ropes and as a Batman fan theres no way he could escape a world where everyother superhero especially the JL on his ass hunting him.
The main problem is that DC insists everyone kiss the useless Batman's butt and then turns every other character into a brain dead moron to make him look good. Why does no one ask why a Warrior!!! like Wonder Woman would have anything but contempt for someone who protects mass murdering terrorists like Batman does.
It's sad that so many people (particularly comic writers) don't know how to navigate the contradictions in her personality. "How can she be compassionate AND a badass warrior?" Simple: if she has the time and thinks there's a chance she can talk you out of your actions, she'll do that. But if you need to be put down like a rabid animal, well... Wonder Woman is the ultimate Big Sister or the Mom Friend of any friend group. She's the best friend you can ever have, and the scariest person to piss off.
YES!!!! Thank you for mentioniing "Dr. Psycho!" After his inclusion on the "Harley Quinn" show, I've been hoping for a similar version to go against Wonder Woman in a show or moviie. 👁🧠👁
Wonder Woman can't use punch as a solution, because as the world's best diplomat, she need to resolve conflicts that requires cunning. This means her job is so much more difficult than Batman and Superman, and also her story would be so much interesting. Make her resolve a conflict between two factions, countries, or super powerful characters, and you got a really interesting and complex story.
If a character is boring because they're very stoic there's a very easy fix for that. Focus more on they're world, and supporting characters, you the thing that's always been so loosely defined over the years
I haven't bought DC comics regularly since a few months after Crisis. The rapidly increasing prices and the radical changes to, or elimination of, many of my favorites got to be too much. Before that though it drove me nuts that DC would change the writing team on WW every time any sort of story momentum managed to get going. She loses her powers and spends a while cosplaying Mrs Peel. Okay, not really WW but lets see where this goes. Wait, never mind she gets her powers back and has to spend 12 issues proving to a team that she cofounded that she deserves to be reinstated. Like they would have dared to do the same to Superman. Well, at least we get a year with a solid throughline. That never gets referenced again. Steve Trevor dies. Steve Trevor comes back. Steve Trevor dies. She gets a new villain for a while who then turns out to be her long lost never before mentioned sister. Who then disappears without a trace instead of letting us see them develop any sort of relationship. After I stopped reading I'd still hear what they were doing with her. She dated Batman??? The Amazons are rapists????? She's actually Zeus' daughter and her power comes from him and not the gifts of several, primarily female, gods???? Ugh. I love the potential that the character has and many of the individual issues and even story arcs from back in the day but I love her despite how DC has handled her at this point. The fact that the suggested shorts to the right as I type this include a thumbnail of Diana in buttfloss and it's not fanart just reinforces how we are probably doomed if we want any sort serious effort by DC to give us quality stories about the character.
To be fair, The Crisis and New 52 were changes to the entire setting, so Wonder Woman not changing in some way would have been cop out(a cop out DC was willing to make for Teen Titans and Legion of Superheroes for Crisis, Batman and Green Lantern for New 52, but I digress). I agree that writers just arbitrarily throwing things out of her story while the setting is supposed to still be the same is annoying though. DC has "else worlds" and a "multiverse". Just go play in those or something!
@@insupportofjunhado They already had the multiverse even back then though and the point of the event was to nuke everything and reduce it to one single 'verse so the whole reboot concept was stupid to start with since it narrowed their options instead of expanding them. Then a lot of the writers had a crappy attitude towards long time fans who didn't like it.
Imagine if she's the most iconic female hero despite DC been trying to ignore her and the lack of media about her. How could it be if she gets respected as she should be?
Absolute Wonder Woman has nice art. But really, go read Golden Age Wonder Woman. That's really the reason why this character is interesting at all. After that, she just became commercialized slop. I got into Wonder Woman during the New 52 Azz run and then fell in love with her during Perez' run. But this whole thing about her being endlessly loving for "some reason" and being a fish out of water, sucks. In the golden age she's a spitfire who goes out of her way to help women especially. She has a ton of side characters, even a butler chracter in Paula Gunther and a secret cave in Holliday College. She meets tons of Amazon tribes all over the world and universe and teaches women and men to not act on what society has in store for the but rather to become strong of body and mind in order to better yourself. Now she's just a wishy washy bruiser who constnatly doesn't even know what she is. All her runs have her dealing with identity crisis because authors could not be bothered to find out who she first was.
Wonder Woman has tons of lore left on the table and character study. Here's my list of things DC can do: 1. Have a SOLID Wonder Woman lore: There's a reason Absolute WW was crucial. 2. What does her character represent: Superman (Hope), Batman (Justice), and WW (Truth & Peace). 3. What's her ongoing journey/on-going battle: Making sure peace is maintained in a war-driven world. 4. Dive into her rogues gallery, including characters not seen in decades. 5. Off of #4, Give her an antagonist that can compliment her and challenge her morality (Batman/Joker & Superman/Luthor)
Everyone is talking about Wonder Woman and I can see why. If she's part of the DC Trinity, why are they insulting her by turning her into a ruthless feminazi ? The 2011 pilot, Flashpoint, Injustice, New 52, and even Lauren Faust's DC Superhero Girls. Like Trunkless Superman, I really hate that they swapped out Wondy's iconic leotard for a Greek style skirt. I prefer Wonder Woman to act like Ariel, who likes to go barefoot and collect things from Man's World. Oh, and also as a elementary school teacher instead of secretary, curator, or even CEO.
When did Lauren Faust turn Wonder Woman into a feminazi. For that matter, even New 52 didn't do that...she was like one of three amazons who WASN'T a feminazi in New 52.
This was spot on. I absolutely love WW and have since the Super Friends from the 70s and the Lynda Carter iconic series. I'm not sure why DC treats her this way. Or why some writers find her so hard to write. She embodies everything that is good and true and strong and powerful even with her flaws. She should be a cornerstone, like Batman and Superman, in every DC launch. That fact that James Gunn doesn't know what do with her is just mind blowing. So many of us WW fans are STARVING for more content of her. The current Tom King comic run is actually good, but we need more. A show, an animated series. Something. We don't get enough. I fear we never will. Make it make sense.
Et tu, Bruce Timm?!? They can't go to the Perez reboot, Rucka's or Simone's work for ideas? Too powerful - like Superman? Sounds like folks aren't trying hard enough.
Fans: Isn't Wonder Woman one of your Big 3? Your Main Trinity of heroes? DC: Yep. Fans: And Batman and Superman have had animated shows before. At least 2 each? DC: Yep. Fans: Then it's about high time we got a Wonder Woman Cartoon. An animated show that explores her lore, villains, and mythos. Make her a standout character. Show what she's like when she's not with The Justice League. DC: That makes sense to me. Fans: Then make one. DC: How about 5 more Batman Reboot movies? Fans: 🤦♀️🤦
I've been a Wonder Woman fan since I was introduced to her in the DCAU (Justice League & Justice League Unlimited) as a little kid (I dabbled in the comics), and I had to think deeply for a minute to name five Wonder Woman-specific villains. Most everyone remotely familiar with the character remembers Cheetah, but it gets trickier when you start down the Greek Pantheon rabbit hole. This is one of the inherent caveats to basing any character off of pre-existing mythology. Mythic Greece comes with A LOT of baggage. There are not only SOOO many names + backstories. You must also recall how they're adapted into the DC lore. It's easy to forget which ones are friend, foe, or neutral in connection to Diana. Ares and Hades are easy picks since the latter is historically portrayed as an antagonist in most media appearances and the former was the main villain of Gal Gadot's film adaptation. But there are so many gods and monsters beyond them. It's difficult to remember which ones are tied into Wonder Woman's Rogues Gallery as recurring opponents vs which ones were one-off conflicts that just happened to fight her because the writers wanted her to face Greek characters. Unique villains like Dr. Psycho are so obscure in my experience, I wouldn't have remembered him if it wasn't for the Harley Quinn cartoon. Then, of course, there's the added confusion of villains who were originally other superheroes' enemies.

It's crazy to me that Hollywood is always trying to turn every female main character into a girl boss, sometimes to the detriment of the character, yet Wonder Woman is an actual girl boss, in lore and as a symbol, and nobody ever bothered to market her.
I laugh at that so much
I think she is way better than any typical girl boss, Wonder Woman is much more kind than someone like MCU Captain Marvel.
I know, what do Hollywood think that writing fictional female character as girl bosses is stupid, i mean, they are almost writing as female villains themselves!
It's just my opinion, folks, okay.
@@WhyitJellyDonut um no she isn’t a captain marvel….
The thing is, she’s one the most powerful Women in fiction but Hollywood writers think that to write a strong woman, you have to make her a man. These people need to look at WW for reference on how to do it right. She’s tough and admirable even without being some beat em up thug.
I’ll never understand how writers can look at a character that’s essentially just, good person who is nice, and walk away clueless as to what to do.

fr the obsession with the idea only flawed people can be interesting or deep characters needs to be stopped

It's not because of a lack of fans, just look at the comments section.
But every damn new writer for Wonder Woman almost tries to completely redefine the concept instead of building off what came before
This happens alot with Superman too, actually. Who even remembers planet Lexor anymore?
Exactly. And if point this out, fans will blame you for some reason.
I agree. Is similar to hawkman.

It’s kind of crazy we still haven’t gotten a Wonder Woman animated series at this point in my opinion.
As much as it sucks to say, it makes perfect sense. Broadly speaking, an full animated series would only be made if a line of toys goes with it. Most boys (or at very least the parents of young boys) aren't going to buy girls toys, and girls toys are limited to being Barbie Doll rip-offs.

For a character that is part of the Trinity, DC does nothing interesting with her compared to the other members.

@@karimdavis7065 Tell me one interesting thing they've done with her. Dc is always reinventing her character (New 52/Rebirth).
EXACTLY like the Fantastic Four, who THEMSELVES, are also VERY PUBLIC with THEIR SECRET IDENTITIES too as well as Iron Man himself okay @aldogrof6700.
Thor, Shazam, Black Adam, and Rogue can beat her in a fight though, maybe not Rogue but she has a chance.

@@CaptainMarvel1939 circe IMO already works as a JL level threat but I do agree with your point
Seriously, give her a cartoon series already. How did Suicide Squad get an anime before Wonder Woman?
Exactly
They should have cared more about Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman and not Margot Robbie and her Harley.
I really hate how weak they make her to be when she is supposed to be almost strong as Superman
(Though I do have a lot of books about mythology.)
Also, I prefer her forged from clay origin as the daughter of Zeus backstory is already Cassandra Sandsmark's.
Wonder Woman almost has healing powers. In the golden and silver age comic books, she was the one who invented the purple healing ray, and not just anyone can use it, as it works off of stuff the Amazons have that most others don't. Post Crisis the lasso of truth can "purge impurities from the body", correct some forms of madness, even undo some hexes-jinxes-curses and reset mind manipulation.(DC got really stretched the word truth as far as they could)
Let's be honest, Wonder Woman was created solely as sexualized fanservice for the Justice Society and then the Justice League.

Boy was I anticipating for this video to come out since you teased it a couple of days back
Wonder Woman is considered one of DC’s biggest characters and it’s always surprised me that there hasn’t been more with her
Bruce Timm Kind of hit it on the nose.
I agree its so unfair Wonder Woman keeps getting dissed like this!

@@therighteousboys446 Well, DC seems to have very few competent writers right now. So they seem to priorities batman
No DC fan relates to Batman, even the orphans.
Unfortunately, most people have always perceived and perceive Wonder Woman as a sexualized Miss Fanservice complete with the Justice League.

Yeah, it seems like most superhero media these days (Disney owned Marvel in particular) confuse depth of character with "how often do they quip" or "how relatable are they".

9:24 this montage of writers saying how “hard” Wonder Woman is to write just tells me they’ve never written a woman before.
Joss Whedon wrote Buffy and we still ended up with that fanfic of a script.

Wonder Woman's core principles are truth, hope, and justice. She actively pursues truth, strives for the betterment of humanity, and seeks justice for the vulnerable. Wonder Woman consistently demonstrates compassion for humankind, recognizing both its virtues and flaws.

It's incredible how every statement that came on your mouth is wrong.
@thereseemstobeenanerror1219 would you care to explain why you disagree instead of saying your wrong?

Alright fine, I judged your comment too quickly.
So I actually do agree with most of your comment. Except for why people gravitate towards Harley, it's not because she's crazy/hot ( Well, that's not the only reason. )
It's because she was well written and complimented the Joker's character perfectly.
I don't hate morally good characters.
“Wonder Mommy” very based
Wonder mommy just feels right
Stop calling her Wonder mommy. Show some respect.
@@johnsantos507 she's Wonder Mommy bro
@@giosbizarreart9048 Stop calling her for god sake!😡
@@johnsantos507 what's wrong with calling her mommy?
@@giosbizarreart9048 Because it's disrespectful.
People always compare Wonder Woman to Thor, but I always felt she was more akin to Capt America. She would start as a woman out of time, being head strong, then grow to be wise and compassionate.
They don't use WW and her magical abilities well.
Nah she has more in common with Thor in the whole fish out of water god was his whole thing in early comics
She's a bit of both. Her people view man's world as evil and irredeemable and Thor seeing humanity as worth fighting for while everyone in asgard questions what he sees in these mortals.
Wonder Woman: A Great Movie
Wonder Woman 1984: Really Bad
They really should've had Wonder Woman 1984 be instead set after Justice League rather than being set in the 80s of all things. I mean, if any of you people actually like and view it as guilty pleasure, more power to ya. I'm not trying act like a major negative jerk or anything, okay.
I'm just some individual whose try not to be negative at nearly anything, almost nearly everything.
@@billymccrary2246 Honestly, I also think that moving the film to the 80s was a strange idea.
You've got a point, before this video if you told me to name a wonder woman villain other than Cheetah I would've been dead silent.
I loose braincells when writers say they struggle to grasp her character……they make it sound like she’s impossible to understand & establish…….
Unpopular opinion - characters existing for too long can be a problem (I think the same about this for Superman, Batman and most main DC characters).
Sometimes I think we should just gently retire old characters with grace and let the NEW characters shine ✨
It gets to the point where anytime someone wants to do something with a character people will say, “he or she would never do that,” and the longer the character exists the more controversial it gets.
Yh WW in Injustice always felt wrong she should have been on Batmans side working with him and being used a trump card for Superman.
That game had Batman on the ropes and as a Batman fan theres no way he could escape a world where everyother superhero especially the JL on his ass hunting him.
DC doesn't have the cojones to embrace Wonder Woman's BDSM subtext.
Aries, Hades, cheetah, Dr psycho, & giganta.
Ha that's 5!
Fun fact: Star Sapphire once said that wonder woman had the greatest love she had felt.
Gay!!!!!!!
Focus more on they're world, and supporting characters, you the thing that's always been so loosely defined over the years
17:00 yeah these 2 fight scenes lowkey made me fall in love with her as a kid 😂😂😂
Wonder Woman has so many under utilized villains and allies, I actually perfer the non mythical characters.
Wonder Woman has tons of lore left on the table and character study. Here's my list of things DC can do:
Oh, and also as a elementary school teacher instead of secretary, curator, or even CEO.
because this is what writers think makes her "appealing"
Personnally i like the skirt more then the leotard but that is just me.
When did Lauren Faust turn Wonder Woman into a feminazi. For that matter, even New 52 didn't do that...she was like one of three amazons who WASN'T a feminazi in New 52.
also to be fait to flashpoint the point was that it was a twisted version of the world so ti makes sense that this wonder woman was a twisted version.
Man I love wonder woman character so to hear that modern writers don't know what to do with her character is shocking.
