  • This is the first of four races in the Spartan North American 3k Elite Series.

The 3k is an elite invite-only event and will be held on Friday evenings. Join us to watch the best of the best compete in a fast pace race. Every second counts; obstacle technique, running pace, and strategy.
The 3k is compromised of three rounds of competition. The first round is a 1k course with up to 45 participants going in waves of 15 every two minutes. Based on time, two-thirds of the athletes move to round two, another 1k course. The half of those athletes go into the final round comprised of three laps of the 1k course.

I ran this in wave 3. I reserved a bit too much on my lap in anticipation for the finals. Training is going to be focused more on the faster rounds for Big Bear.
P.s. after almost running on a 4 foot snake before the slip wall, multi rig was extremely slippery from the humidity.
See you all in Big Bear!

Interesting format. I still prefer the longer mountain courses though. Thanks for the effort on the coverage.

I like this format, but I do miss the longer elite races. Love that Brakken described Nicole Mericle as a "marvel of an athlete." Well deserved description- and good to see her back!

Coming to this late, and I see from other comments that people have already spoken about the choppy footage.
I think it's neat that Spartan Elite series are experimenting with a new format, slightly new obstacles.
But if the goal is to make this more appealing to viewers, this is falling short of the mark. Realistically almost nobody is going to watch a (choppy) 2 hour TH-cam video of Spartan racers run in repetitive laps.
As an average viewer, I strongly suggest you find ways to make this shorter to watch from top to bottom - maybe break this out from Men and Women, so it's 1 hour tops per video.
And yeah, I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the previous format of the Elites doing a single, big race versus a whole bunch of smaller, more intense laps.
Either way best of luck to the athletes and to Spartan Races for continuing to make this sport exciting to watch for the rest of us.

I don't know why they are allowed to just grab the carabiners or straps in stead of the grips? Are there no rules from Spartan? This way whatever they put up (balls, cones, ropes, sticks, ...) doesn't matter, since they can circumvent it easily... This baffles me truly, no OCR race in Europe would allow that, rulebooks are clear and marshalls will(or should) intervene and penalize the athlete.

No fans at all in the finish! Not the same! They almost celebrate alone! No like!!

Such an empty venue for these elites

i do believe it's because it's run the day before the actual event. Typically, run on a Friday whereas most age-groupers and others are working and/or traveling to the venue site.

If the whole point of this was to make this easier to view for consumers, why is the coverage so terrible? Shouldn’t you have that worked out by now? Oh wait, it’s spartan, I shouldn’t be surprised.

I promise you we are working diligently to get it right. We're disappointed with a pixelated picture just as much as you are. We'll keep working hard testing and figuring it out. Stick with us and we'll get there!

So you covered the elite racers in 2016 (ex - USNS Asheville), 2017 (ex - West Virginia) and 2018 (ex - Jacksonville) with rabbits that ran and filmed every inch of the race and followed leaders with ZERO issues……..maybe you should go back to what you were doing then. That coverage is what got me hooked on these races in the first place and I’ve been a season pass holder for multiple years now and spend every free penny I have with Spartan. I hate to say it, but you’re getting worse not better.

@@charleydavis9041 As the producer of the show I would like to provide some clarity as others seem to be confused about this as well. In the 2016-2018 days Spartan hired companies to produce those streams. They paid a lot of money to bring pretty high quality shows, but even they weren't without their issues. The amount of money poured into those streams was not sustainable. Since those streams stopped, we, as The OCR Report, have figured out a way to live stream for much much cheaper to keep it sustainable. It will continue to get better, but please don't confuse what we got back in 2016-2018 with what we're doing today. Neither of those are directly Spartan. Previously it was hired teams, and now it's us working with Spartan since they are not providing their own.
But I guarantee we are getting better and will not stop till we get it right.

@@jasondupree2232 You are in a tough spot if you need cell coverage to give you a perfect picture. You need clear coverage of the race if you want people to watch it. I live and breath Spartan but I just cannot sit through constant freeze frames and blurred pictures. I want to see the pros do the obstacles and that is better than blurred running. So, I do have some potential suggestions (assuming picture quality is consistent if the camera is not moving): 1) set up cameras on tripods to cover the obstacles 2) use split frames to show multiple obstacles on the screen at all times 3) let the commentators give the updates on athletes as they run between obstacles and show everyone coming across the finish line. I do not know all the potential problems you are dealing with, but if you can show the pros do the obstacles clearly, that’s a great start! I hope you succeed in making it better!
