  • I sold my C7 Grand Sport and replaced it with a Porsche 718 Spyder. Was it worth it? Let's talk about it! These are just five of the reasons I sold my Grand Sport Corvette in order to buy a 2022 Porsche 718 Spyder. Do I regret it? Well.......

    I’ve owned 104 cars in 40 years, but buying a naturally aspirated 911 and that flat six engine….is the best car I’ve ever owned. Porsche’s are absolutely awesome…no radio required in a 911 😂

    Love hearing other people’s reasons for owning a Spyder. In 2022, this is a unicorn configuration..NA/RWD/mid-engine/convertible/manual…add in GT tuning and lusty aesthetic for good measure.

      Exactly! My dad had a 2016 981 Spyder and ever since, I wanted one. Then when they announced the Spyders for the 718s, I knew this was the last shot to get one! I know they’re still great cars, but I just can’t do the 4-cyl. 718s, so the Spyder/GT4/GTS is the only way to go!

My fav car by far the 718 Spyder omg whats not to like, speedster humps, 4 liter mid engine 450 hp, manual, Porsche quality built by Porsche Motorsport in Zuffenhausen as all GT3 & GT4’s are built. I'm also a HUGE Scuderia fan. Forza. Hoping they do well this year, especially since the release of the car was today. I also love targa style cars because they look good with the roof on or off. I had a black on tan C4 targa, and liked it alot, but it was too structurally unsound with the roof off to be honest. Long time ago. I also liked the C7s and DESPISE the look of the C8s. I've had my 718 Cayman S for nearly 5 years and it's the best car I've ever owned. I drive it once a week and my wife doesn't quite get the picture. Like you each time I get in the car it's a new experience and it puts a smile on my face. The power aspect is totally a non starter, this car has 350 hp and truly on the street it's unusable and will put you in jail. I never would track the car so the power is irrelevant. I would love to get a GT4RS, but forget about it sooooo much over MSRP. I've owned 3 Corvettes, my first 1 was a '64 silver blue coupe, 327 365 hp 4 speed when I was 18 years old, saved for years to get the ride. I beat the hell out of that car, but what would expect from an 18 year old with 365 hp, but never went to jail! I had 2 others a '66 and a '68, then family interfered with my car thing. Corvettes are great, every time I see a C8 I like it less, way too ass end heavy for me, but certainly not up to the level of construction as the Porsche. Just some miscellaneous ramblings from an old guy!

    • @charliemanger
      @charliemanger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true! I think the 718 chassis is one of the best platforms out there for sports cars. Extremely well balanced, forgiving, and engaging. I’ll admit, I was a little disappointed about the 718s going to turbo’d 4s, but only because of the sound. 300+ hp is plenty for the street, but I missed Porsches iconic flat 6 soundtrack! Either way, fantastic car! Glad to hear you still enjoy yours after years of ownership!

      @@charliemanger To me it's the best Porsche buy, made to the same standards as all other Porsches. As far as the sound is concerned, a buddy of mine has a 2022 Boxster GTS and we went for a ride with the topdown, unless screaming to redline the sound difference in comparison to my car was minor at best. Others have a different opinion, I also have sport exhaust, I was sold at first start up!

I have a friend out in California that has a 1969 blue 912 and a 1995 silver 993 Speedster. To me the engineering and design and build quality make a Porsche worth keeping for life. I never owner a corvette although I liked the C7 better. It didn’t have all of those forced angles and creases like so many modern cars, plus it’s built by General Motors. With that said I did order, two months apart, a 2021 c8 and a Porsche. I got the corvette first and didn’t like it. That long console with the tiny buttons was ridiculous and again all the angles was a turn off. I sold it to some schmuck for more than I paid for it. The C8 Z06 is pretty awesome! GM finally put a really unique, exotic, special engine in the car. The problem with the Z06 though is that it’s just as unattainable as any regular exotic. You can’t get one even if you wanted to and dealers are charging OUTRAGEOUS markups, so most Z06s are well into the $200k’s. And that kind of money opens the door to a ton of actual exotics.
