I've heard that the classic collection of MST3K is leaving Netflix on March 15. So if you want to see them riff on Hobgoblins, Gunslinger, or Bride of the Monster, put it on the watch list right now.

I have a load of Bergman's films - Wild Strawberries ( my personal favorite), Persona, Fanny and Alexander, The Seventh Seal, Virgin Spring, Cries and Whispers and Summer With Monika. These are all films I would recommend. Oh.. there's Autumn Sonata with the American/Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman.
You're a fan of Tarkovsky but haven't seen a Bergman film?! Also you would like the Will Ferrall movie Everything Must Go, as he plays it straight.

OMG Marianna, you have to see an Ingmar Bergman movie! Persona and Seventh Seal are all masterpieces, but I highly recommend Autumn Sonata. I think that movie fits with your taste and it is one of the greatest heartcrushing family dramas I have ever seen!

Love this channel. I think Ingmar Bergman is a GOD! If you like Tarkovsky, Bergman could definitely be a great director for you. Wild Strawberrys, Persona, Cries and Whisperers, Autumn Sonata, The Seventh Seal are masterpieces (I haven't seen Fanny and Alexander).
Daniel Granados Castillo - great taste! Fanny & Alexander is just as good as the others you mentioned. It’s probably been 25 years since I watched it, but it made a big impression on me.

Oh man, I wish I hadn't watched this. Now knowing that you listen to Classic Rock and Metal, and that we have almost the same tastes in movies... I don't want to have a crush on a TH-camr... But, here we are. By the way, I do hope you get to Bergman soon, you are very likely to love him as long as you don't get too overhyped going in (especially because you love Tarkovsky, they are very similar). Some recommendations for where to start; The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, The Magician, Persona, or Fanny and Alexander.
I assume that you will love The Dark Crystal series if you haven't seen it yet! 😀

Mariana, I thought you were the one until that Will Farrell comment. :(. On a side note (and in all seriousness), what is that book on your shelf (two right from Dune)? I had a leather-bound, unabridged version of all Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker series that I lost and it looked an awful lot like the book on your shelf. I've been trying to find another copy of it for years.

When you are about to decide to watch a Ingmar Bergman movie (because it will happen), my suggestion is to start with Fanny and Alexander. It's a beautiful movie made by a master, and i'm 98,8% sure you will love it. After maybe Wild Strawberries, and when you feel ready go with the epic Seventh Seal. I agree with horror books, not the best media, but i think Clive Barker is the best, and he made some pretty disturbing books.
Some shocking reveals here. And I never thought to compare you to Scarlet Johansson.

Wait! Back up mam! Did you say have not seen the Sopranos? Please schedule a weekend to binge the entire thing. All seasons. I did right after the complete collection came out on Blu-ray and it was a special weekend. Buy it off Amazon, not Best Buy as it’s more reasonably priced unless you can stream it. Haha, I actually prefer horror books to horror movies because the movies are too scary 🙈 So I definitely agree that horror lends itself tremendously to visual media.

I know I’m late to this video but after seeing a few: it’s refreshing that an American movie critic knows and loves Tarkovsky’s films. Contrary to other “critics” who in general are mono cultural (only pop films, no reading subtitles, no slow cinema, “movies are formulaic entertainment) an actual critic has to stretch his/her context and cultural zeitgeist into movie history and dive into films that take them out of their comfort (or entertainment) zone. Maybe the critic won’t like them but they must be seen or otherwise what’s the point of watching and criticizing only one kind of flick?
That being said, if you are into Tarkovsky you are more than ready to get into Bergman and I’d add Antonioni (maybe you have, I’m randomly scrolling through the playlist) They are like Bowie/Pop/Reed Berlin era in that they knew each other and shared certain sensibilities about film and their influence to each other created a few masterpieces!
Oh, also for what it’s worth: you’ve got a new subscriber.
LOTR Trilogy was amazing but man I struggled to watch the Hobbit trilogy if I’m honest. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t exactly good. It didn’t help that they never really had a good bad guy in them. LOTR had you hooked from the get go with its villains.
Alas I don't do Instagram. (It's about three bridges too far for me.) So I'll leave something here. My assumption based on the fact that you get so much reading and film watching done is that you do NOT have a full time job apart from your TH-camry. (Either that or you are an absolutely magnificent manager of your time.)
(PS. I have never thought you looked that much like Scarlett J. I see you as more of a Snegurochka figure secreted in the hinterlands of the Midwest.)

I love "The Witcher" books and games (books were my first introduction to this universe), but the series is alright. I enjoyed it, but I hope they have some significant improvements in season 2.

I love that you love Andrei Tarkovsky! 🥳 I only discovered his films last year, when his films were shown in arthouse theaters in Amsterdam and I managed to catch two of them: first Stalker, and then Solaris. I loved them both and need to watch all of his remaining films. 🤗
Speaking of great Russian films: have seen Beanpole? I thought it was really good and interesting. 😍
