Except that in another one of their calf pain videos they warn you not to stretch, especially if you suspect a torn muscle.
The disclaimer here is that your particular situation needs to be assessed by a professional before starting any treatment.

They did mention that this stretching is to be done AFTER the pain has gone away. In the other video they also say to stop stretching (or walking fast, or whatever you are doing that causes the pain) wait a day or two and try again.

I just want you guys to know how grateful I am for you guys. I am 22yr old female and I have had an upper calf tear for 1 1/2 years (from Sept 2021-June 2023). I felt pain every single day and tried EVERYTHING to take the pain away and try to heal it! I tried icing it every single day for almost a year, gaining several ice burns because I over iced, and was desperate to do whatever I could to heal. Then finally I went to a doctor where I found out it was a calf tear, and I was given about 20 exercises to do every single day that I believe re-aggravated my calf over and over again. The doctor also prescribed me to take ibuprofen for pain and inflammation, but never told me how many to take or how often to take it. I didn’t want to gain a dependency on ibuprofen, so I just dealt with the pain. Never told how often to ice or what that was even for. Then about 6 months ago, I discovered a calf sleeve designed to keep the muscle warm. I noticed that when my muscle was warm, I didn’t feel any pain. Since I had little to no pain, I thought it was actually healing, so I was wearing the calf sleeve almost 24/7. Then a family member made the suggestion that I should at least take it off when I’m sleeping because that much compression wouldn’t allow it to heal. And that was true because it had hurt worse than it ever has because blood flow was so restricted. Then I went back to icing, but instead used an ice bucket and thought I was seeing tons of improvement. Then I almost gave up and just thought this was hopeless and that I’d have a torn calf forever. I’m a spiritual person and decided I’d ask God for help, so I asked Him to guide me to anyone or anything that could help me heal, and I got an impression to look up my injury on TH-cam to see what others have done to heal their own calf injuries. After a few of those videos and gaining lots of knowledge, I came across these guys and it was like all the pieces came together! I had lots of the right ideas, but not the correct execution. And they also gave me other ideas I haven’t tried before! So thank you so much, you’ve made my fitness dreams possible again!!!❤🎉😊

I too am having upper calf pain below the knee area for just under a year and a half. I've always thought it was my knee but realize it's the calf muscle. I too tried EVERYTHING. Became very depressed wondering why I didn't heal. What did you try here? When I try to massage the sore area it seems to get sorer. I have a sleeve by incrediwesr but it's very hard for me to get it off. Bending is an easy way to strain it. I imagine it must be a lot of scar tissue after all this time. My movement is very limited and am strained because of the constant tightness and pain. So did you practice the exercises here and use the massager? Exercises every day or every other day? I'd love to hear your success story. Thanks

Foam rollers are wonderful, highly recommend those that vibrate. I have one and use it every single day for pain in my legs and hips.

I have used your videos for lower back pain and now this. One thing that really helps in the short term for me is slathering the sore area in Veterinary Absorbine. I figure if it is good enough for a horse of course of course it is good enough for me. Just be very careful to clean your hands afterword becsaue you will not like it if you touch someplace sensitive with this stuff. And I just ordered the massager.

My daughter who is an experienced & highly qualified physio in the UK advised me that use of Mechanical Massagers can cause Deep Vein Thrombosis & should not be used. The best way to avoid scar tissue is to gently load ANY strained/pulled muscle until discomfort is felt. Also, unless in severe pain neither to apply ice nor to take ibuprofen as the inflammation is part of the healing process. Finally, having recovered it is important to daily keep up the loading of the muscle that was pulled to minimise a repeat injury.

I am 37 years old. Two days a go, I heard/felt a popping sound in my left leg, specifically in the back of my left knee pit, as I was walking to the train station from work. I had some immediate discomfort but actually no pain. My body immediately adjusted and began to shift it's weight to my right leg. So I have been hobbling around for the last two days to and from work. I find that when climbing and descending stairs my range of motion is still normal but my regular walk has changed into a slight limp on the left side. I think it might be plantaris tendon rupture. There are not many videos anywhere about this kind of a tear but the one video I found on youtube did say that it is a vestigial muscle and that eventually it will go away and my normal walking gait will return. Since you are both Physical therapists can you verify this and also will your 20 minute massage work in the same way?

Based on the background, there’s both Vikings and Packers merch, I’d say Minnesota! (We’ve got a huge split between packer and Viking fans haha) could be Wisconsin too, close to the MN border!

I'm def gonna try this it's Tuesday and it's been hard to walk since Friday evening as we did calf/ankle workouts in my pilates class. I use to have super tight calf muscles due (and a previous Planter fasciitis) trying to strengthen ans I couldn't walk or straighten my legs. Stretching didn't help luckily my mom had a hand held massager - so painful but it's slightly getting better. And def ibuprofen Monday helped me get through the day but didn't last haha. Guess I'll havw to keep massaging

This looks great! I don't have the buddah straps, where do I get them, and how soon can I safely play tennis? I can't get into Dr. for a week or so and I heard loud pop when I injured calf but am able to walk with limp and no bruising.

So interesting because when I studied Cyriaxis Cross frictional massage in chiropractic school in the extremity orthopedic class we were told that Cyriax initially recommending eight minutes for each session. Some of his so-called disciples said well that’s hard for a person to do that so just do three minutes per session. Now you mention 20 minutes per session. I took the class in about 1987. I suppose you would need a crew of tag team of therapist to comply with that. Smile😆
