Overstretched my calves, could barely walk the next day. So I rested for 10 days and thought I was fine. Started running again, but the pain returned. Unfortunately, I continued running on the injury for 2 weeks (because running makes me feel good). This made the injury 10x worse. Here I am 2 months of rest later and my calves are still fucked. Probably going to need another 6 weeks at least of rest.
I just want to run again D: Take injuries seriously people, don't be like me.

I just want you guys to know how grateful I am for you guys. I am 22yr old female and I have had an upper calf tear for 1 1/2 years (from Sept 2021-June 2023). I felt pain every single day and tried EVERYTHING to take the pain away and try to heal it! I tried icing it every single day for almost a year, gaining several ice burns because I over iced, and was desperate to do whatever I could to heal. Then finally I went to a doctor where I found out it was a calf tear, and I was given about 20 exercises to do every single day that I believe re-aggravated for calf over and over again. The doctor also prescribed me to take ibuprofen for pain and inflammation, but never told me how many milkshake or how often to take it. I didn’t want to gain a dependency on ibuprofen, so I just dealt with the pain. Never told how often to ice or what that was even for. Then about 6 months ago, I discovered a calf sleeve designed to keep the muscle warm. I noticed that when my muscle was warm, I didn’t feel any pain. Since I had little to no pain, I thought it was actually healing, so I was wearing the calf sleeve almost 24/7. Then a family member made the suggestion that I should at least take it off when I’m sleeping because that much compression wouldn’t allow it to heal. Then I went back to icing, but instead used an ice bucket and thought I was seeing tons of improvement. Then I almost gave up and just thought this was hopeless and that I’d have a torn calf forever. I’m a spiritual person and decided I’d ask God for help, so I asked Him to guide me to anyone or anything that could help me heal, and I got an impression to look up my injury on TH-cam to see what others have done to heal their own calf injuries. After a few of those videos and gaining lots of knowledge, I came across these guys and it was like all the pieces came together! I had lots of the right ideas, but not the correct execution. And they also gave me other ideas I haven’t tried before! So thank you so much, you’ve made my fitness dreams possible again!!!❤🎉😊

Did your calf heal? Mine was told to be a grade 2 tear and it hasn't healed in 8 weeks as of tomorrow. I also hurt mu back and shoulders so I can't use crutches. I'm at a loss for what to do. I have a cousin who had a grade 3 tear, he was told he'd need surgery but he grew up playing soccer and seeing ppl with these types of injuries and he just wore a boot and it healed for him in 6 months even though doctors told him he'd need surgery. I can't walk more than a couple blocks without feeling strain.

Most of these are chronic soleus strains (the most vulnerable part of the calf). Unfortunately once you get one of these they are always in the shadows waiting to come back. I have struggled with these injuries as a triathlete for almost 15 years. I have made two years without one but that is the most. Consistent massage after runs has been the best deterrent but as you get older your mind is tough but the body doesn’t always follow.

Can’t bend my toes/ankle upwards without immense pain in the calf. Following RICE (rest, ice, compress, elevate) and hoping for a quick recovery. I believe I got a Grade 2 calf strain. Gonna try to take it easy, stay off my feet, and next time at the gym I will do a warm-up stretch, and a cool-down stretch.

Actually, I start working with cross-fibre massage from day 4 post-injury. That’s the timeframe when fibroblasts are laying down scar tissue.
Also, ice is only helpful when swelling is severe. If there’s only little swelling, heat is better. The inflammatory cascade needs to progress in order for repair to take place. My calf tear took only 2 1/2 weeks to get back to normal.
    I’m an osteopath.

i love you two. i can't begin to imagine how many people you've helped, and your info seems fantasticly on point. i tried out jumprope and overdid it and my calves have been hurting pretty bad. it's not been quite 72 hours so i'm still not quite sure if it's bad doms or a tear or something. they're better today than yeseterday but it still hurts to walk. i'll cut out the stretching just in case and focus on massage.
it sucks, i've been trying to be careful with my new exercise regimine, but i just got overeager with the jumprope lol i had to skip my scheduled run yesterday and again today because i knew if i tried running on them i'd make them a lot worse. hoping they feel better tomorrow, though even if they do, i may still skip running just to be on the safe side and walk instead. very frustrating but lesson learned!

Been running since 2012, I've completed 24 full marathons since. Suffered my first calf strain last week at age 54. Was on a 10 mile run, pushing hard on hills, thought it would resolve at first notice, regretted that decision. Waited a week until today to run again, medium run and again the irritation came back after mile six. Watched this video with great hope for the answers, wasn't disappointed. Icing it down now and buying a massager on Amazon. Thank you! I love running and I wish to keep running for as long as this body holds up.

I got my calf strained 2 months ago JUST WALKING, though it was after a run. The first few days I applied cold and rested. Within a week I could walk normally but then it became extremely painful again by walking on the second week, no running involved. Ultrasound showed a small tear, started cryotherapy and dynamic reinforcement, no pain whatsoever during these.
For a month I could walk up and down hills without issue, only in flat eventually it started being painful at around the 2 mile mark.
Since, it's only got worse. I can barely make 200 yards walking without the pain coming back up. Not even up/down makes a difference.
Second ultrasound just shows it's scarring, ruling out any other undetected injury.
Already have my next doctor appointment but I'd like to know what you or your viewers think is going on.

Just recovering from a repetitive motion injury to my calf muscle. 62 year old male with 20+ years as a runner/jogger. I felt it tighten up on a run when I was 3 ish miles from home. Knew enough to stop immediately. Walked home, or limped is a better description. Limited my activity for a week or so, but tried too quickly to run on it, same type injury. Now this is January timeframe and lower temperature means less stretch. Since re-injury to the calf a full 3 weeks of no running. Got back to more stretching workouts. I ran 1 mile Monday, and today Wednesday. No problems. I wore an ace bandage to compress the calf. This helps elongate the muscles. I might add heel inserts also. I also stretch and walk 25 minutes to warm up, prior to running. I live in Florida but it was 44 at noon today. When I have gotten injured running it was winter time. Putting on a few COVID-19 pounds hasn’t helped either.

I was gonna go find another video after this just in case it doesn't mention it here why it happens but THANK GOD YOU GUYS DID!
I've been mostly only stuck in my room a whole year with nothing much to go outside for and rarely take walks but for the three days I was finally walking for most of the day for stuff, all was good but slowly and eventually, I couldn't really straighten my other leg but mostly hurting only on the calf part of one of my foot which how I walked for quite a few days now one being straight while the other was getting more and more in that tiptoe position like I am on really high heels.
At first I thought I had terrible cramps on my leg again but I never really did since that would wake me up instantly.

Thanks for your helpful videos! Strained my left calf 4 days ago this past Sunday while rushing around getting dressed to go somewhere! No major swelling, just felt the sudden pull and had trouble walking. Feels like Grade 1. Did RICE protocol for 48 hours but I inadvertently did mild stretching by gently flexing and extending my foot while lying in bed with my leg on pillows. On Day 3 I had to descend and ascend a few flights of stairs. Now I feel I may have overdone it as I did not use crutches and have been limping around my top floor walk up apartment. Did the cross friction massage several times for 3-5 minutes starting Tuesday night.
Is ICE/REST recommended on Days 4 and 5 if you made the mistake of slightly overdoing it within the first three days? Is mild stretching while laying in bed a good idea at this point? Day 4 my calf still feels pretty weak although not painful or swollen. Lying in bed with my laptop as I write, luckily I can work from home! Not sure about those stairs though.... :-(
