The VQ waterpumps are not known for failure, and if they leak internally past 2 o-rings, the coolant is directed outside the engine. I have a 2016 murano at 76k. I got tired of auto shops overcharging. So i just did my first oil change, tx fluid, rear diff, transfer case and 4 rotors and brake pads. This is my first cvt fluid change and it will take 2 more drain/refill at least to change most fluid since u only get about 3 qts out at a time using drain plug. I also have a lead foot. So far no issues with cvt. For those comparing the cx5 with rhis car, it is apples and oranges. I test drove the cx5 b4 settling on murano. Any crossover with a straight 4 cyl is a pile of garbage when it comes to acceleration. If u are driv8ng like a grandpa than sure, that is the car for you. But if you want to have ability to do more than the 6 cyl is needed in these vehicles.just my opinion.I do have one complaint about the murano. The first tire and fe9nt pads needed changing at 36k. The only reason I changed the fe9nt brake and rotor now at 76k was because the rear pads were gone. So I would say, very poor quality feom oem. And currwnt tires have at least another 20-30k left.
Just recently started a trade program for auto tech, and this video is great, my dad has this car and I'm just trying to get a feel for how good or bad his purchase was, so far it seems it was not a very good purchase, apart from also being a bit above his means.
Are you kidding me?! You have to remove the wheel to change the oil filter! And I thought the cvt was the only mistake. Oh, wait the water pump is chain driven. I can't imagine why Nissan is going bankrupt. Thank you for your videos! Hopefully, you saved someone from going broke.
The wheel doesn't need to come off. You can typically just peel back the plastic cover and there is plenty of space to fit a tool. Oil does get all over the sub frame though.
Gotta love my Murano’s. Had an 07 that lasted till 250k when I replaced it with my 2015 Murano that now has 56k. Just change the CVT oil @30k and haven’t had any problems (knock on wood). Even my sister bought a 2018 and has 64k on it.
@@JAMESWUERTELE See Toyota hasn’t been reliable for us at all. Had an 01 Camry and at 92k engine stalled and my mom crashed it. Then she got an 07 Camry and at 32k we were driving down to get my dad a kidney transplant and out of no where the transmission just down shifted to first gear. We were on the freeway going about 70-75 and when it did that it over rev the engine and blew 5 of the 6 piston out of the block. That’s when Toyota gave my mom a murano as a rental and she had to buy one. Then I went out and bought a 2011 Tacoma and that was okay until you started to get on it. The engine made a ticking noise. Then that engine also loved to consume oil like it was nothing too. I got tired of also putting in a quart of oil around 3k of driving. I traded the truck for my 12 Xterra and that now has 167k on still running strong without any problems. Now my whole family has switched from Toyota to Nissan except for my grandpa. He has an 1994 Toyota pickup that only has 130k on it. He’s is thinking about putting it up for sale and getting a bigger truck but he’s probably going to get a GMC Sierra.
Have you looked at a Toyota with the 3.5 V5 6 ? No room to work in them either. The Nissan V6 is just as good as the Toyota V6 as far as being trouble free. I own both a Camry XLE with the 3.5 V6 engine, as well as a Murano SV. Both are great vehicles, but I find that the Murano has better interior quality. Don't believe all the comments you read on YT or social media. There are a TON of very happy Murano owners out there, and I happen to be one of them. I love Toyota's too, they have excellent engines, but their quality is getting cheaper, while their prices are getting higher. With all that said, the "perfect" car does not exist unfortunately. They ALL have their pros and cons, so buy the one that has the most pros for you, and don't be influenced by trolls etc online.
Great content, can you review Honda's L15? I currently own a 2018 Civic Sport Hatchback Touring with this engine, and I definitely like the powerplant.
Goodness. Just take the engine out to do maintenance! If anything major breaks just sell it off as a mechanic special and cut your losses. That's the issue with most new cars it seems unless you are very mechanically inclined, have a lift or have access to a mechanic who will do work on the side.

My friend Mirano v6’s cvt is still working and hasn’t gone out after 100,000 miles. Why is this? I have seen others been taken care of and it still died at 20-40 thousand miles. They have owned the car since new so there is no chance it has been replaced.
Great video!!!😍 Hello from Charleston, South Carolina 👋I just got a 2019 Nissan Murano SL with 3.5L V6 engine (VQ35DE) this past March, 2024. I love it! I am huge fan of Nissans and after driving a 2009 Nissan Cube Krom for 14 years, this V6 is a dream 😎 Question: I recently had a tech at Advance Auto Parts test the battery, alternator and starter. I am currently at 63,965 miles and figured it was time to check stuff out. After the test, AAP tech told me the battery and alternator were good. But the starter was at low voltage reading. Bright red indicator LOL. He suggested I replace it. I wonder if I use do this? Maybe I could test the starter with a multimeter? Let me know your thoughts when you can. Thanks 👍Rolf.

Rogue is junk. Infiniti, though the same company, is awesome. Rogue is just an offer to people who don't have the budget and don't know any better. My FX35 is the best car I've ever owned, built like a tank.
It would be cool to know what plant the OEM tires are coming from on these newer cars you're reviewing. The first two characters after the DOT stamp tells the plant's location city and country. I would prefer tires from factories in the USA, Canada, or Europe. I figure cheap Chinese tires are on cheaper cars but you never know. A Google search for DOT Tire Manufacturing Codes will bring up the current 2017 list of factories.
I think the cooling system is designed very poorly. It is hard to be serviced and the timing chain driven water pump can give you many headaches. If it starts leaking, the coolant will mix with the engine oil which can cause catastrophic engine failure. This is very stupid design and it never should have been implemented. Apart from the chain driven water pump and the CVT transmission I think it’s not too bad SUV. Again a great car review !
Please review the redrsigned Rogue (and the redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander for that matter) to see how Nissan's mindset changed after Ghosn stepped down (and after Nissan realized that they will be responsible for some engineering in newer Mitsubishis)

Change the oil. The first trans. (or engine) oil change IS the most important one. You never know when the dealer is going to spin the speedometer backwards from 100,000 miles for a more higher price.
Hello hope you are well ,do you think the next time you get the chance, can you make a video on how far the oil dipstick goes into the engine, I’m considered when changing my oil, that I don’t overfill it, which I NEVER do,Just would like to know how much room there is in crank case for access oil, thank you.

Glad I could spice up your day
I was in 8th grade when the Murano first came out. I'm now 30 and it still looks the same in and out.
Same here
I have a 2016 murano at 76k.
I have a 2016 murano at 76k. I got tired of auto shops overcharging...What are you talking about??? "Overcharcharging" WHAT???

Best video over
Just recently started a trade program for auto tech, and this video is great, my dad has this car and I'm just trying to get a feel for how good or bad his purchase was, so far it seems it was not a very good purchase, apart from also being a bit above his means.
It's not a bad car overall, until things start failing and labor ads up
Are you kidding me?!
Yeah most VQ Nissans are like that with the oil filter on the passenger side
I just changed the oil for first time ever. All i had to do was pop the bottom of the plastic cover and unscrew the oil filter. It is all easy.
Fantastic review
Great video, very detailed. Thank you
Welcome
I like that it has the V6 and not a 4 cyl
Not for long.....
so you knock VW for plastic oil pans, but in your review of the Jeep Wrangler you said it was great because it’s easy to replace if it cracks.
Accessibility in the Wrangler makes it easy but not preferred
Great honest review. Cvt no go no mas
I love your videos!! Could you please do one of these videos on the 8th Gen 2015-2020 Nissan Maxima??
Maybe. It's very similar under the hood though
Same as the Murano! Built off the same architecture.
great review appreciate it
Thank you
Gotta love my Murano’s. Had an 07 that lasted till 250k when I replaced it with my 2015 Murano that now has 56k. Just change the CVT oil @30k and haven’t had any problems (knock on wood). Even my sister bought a 2018 and has 64k on it.
good to hear.. keeping changing that CVT oil 30 to 50 based on how you drive it don't wait till 160.. burnt, oxidized oil is a killer for CVT 's
They are ok besides the CVT and difficult maintainence
Junk! My wife’s 2016 CVT was on the way out at 52k, lots of squeaks and rattles also! Toyota is all I buy now!
I’m assuming you’re a Nissan fan... your name is Xterra
Nice reviewer 👌🏽
Thanks
You have to remove the wheel to change oil filter? Good design Nissan.
No, you don't
Just turn the wheel all the way, and you should have access to the filter
Excellent work brother ... keep it up
Are you going to do the pathfinder? I want to see how much more room you have under the hood. Probably not much.
Nah the Pathfinder is basically the same
I was considering a Murano, but now after I’ve seen this video, I think I’ll pass. Thank you so much.
I really want to review Honda's but those are hard to find
Goodness. Just take the engine out to do maintenance! If anything major breaks just sell it off as a mechanic special and cut your losses. That's the issue with most new cars it seems unless you are very mechanically inclined, have a lift or have access to a mechanic who will do work on the side.
That's why these are mechanic specials all over after 10 years
I get 30+MPG easy in mine. Cruise control works better than any vehicle I've owned! Lots of hills in my area
I'm getting 15mpg in city driving.
your videos are great. thanks
You are welcome
What an excellent record that will help archeologists work out why we disposed of these things rather than fix them.
Yep
Very interesting videos. I would like to see a mechanical review on both the Tahoe and the Expedition.
I'm waiting for the new full sized GMs to come out. I previewed it in my autoshow mechanical review
First .. Great video!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Second I just bought a 2020 Murano SV with 15k miles got a warranty from the dealer CnA ?
Is the Nissan extended warranty better?
Also another dealer offers Zurich extended warranty 96m/130k miles comprehensive $0ded for a lot less
But never heard of zurich..
please advise
Thank you again
Don't trust the private warranties. They won't be there when you need them
its fwd only ? or optional awd?
Great work as always, would definitely recommend it to the in laws, lol.
Unless you are the one working on it
You can just turn the wheel all the way to the right to access the oil filter without taking off the tire. It makes it so much easier.
Please you know about Murano 2024 problems?
Same as this one... probably CVT
My friend Mirano v6’s cvt is still working and hasn’t gone out after 100,000 miles. Why is this? I have seen others been taken care of and it still died at 20-40 thousand miles. They have owned the car since new so there is no chance it has been replaced.
Not all will fail. They just generally aren't designed to last
speedkar99 aah I see, they do that so that the people who get good ones will come back and get suckered into a pos.
What about a block heater?
One Nissan I popped the hood on recently that had a decent amount of room round the engine was the Kicks.
I wouldn't get one though.
Nah too small
How long they gone use that engine🤔
Until the VC engine becomes mainstream
Nice review as always!
Could you review a 2017+ jeep cherokee with V6 engine?
Yes i have already filmed the grand Cherokee
I do like the cvt very smooth
But not reliable
Any advice on the extended warranty?
Awesome review as always. And omg this vehicle is such a pain in the ass to work on 😂
Thanks and yes it's a tough one
Yep, she’s beautiful but complicated!
I swear I see that damn orange air filter in every video. Is it FRAM?
I didn't catch the name
Regarding build quality, which one is better, Nissan or Mazda?
Mazda
@@speedkar99 Thanks.
Can you do the 2021 Chevy trailblazer and with the 1.3L 3 cylinder engine next.
I previewed it in my autoshow review
My 2007 M. has transmission dip stick! Btw, it has 193k miles on it and still running 👏👍I know everyone here talking s$#*^ about CVT, but I personally love it. N. makes one of the best CVT. 🥰
Do a eview of a TOYOTA PROBOX, love to see one. It'd be good luck finding it.
What is that?
Whose tooth brush is that? 😂😂😂 💯👍 Video!

Can you do a video on the honda passport?
Can you possibly get your hands on an Outlander to review?
My dad had one its good to drive compared to other similar suv but prone to gearbox and AC failure.
Did his fail?
He is a mechanic as well so sold it right before he smelled gearbox failure. Heard that the guy who bought has to repair it twice
My daughter has a rogue 2017 low mile and it has already had an engine oil leak on the cam. My 2015 79,000 mile cx 5 is still going strong, clean engine, no problem.
I haven't heard good things about the Rogue...same thing as Journey
Rogue is junk. Infiniti, though the same company, is awesome. Rogue is just an offer to people who don't have the budget and don't know any better. My FX35 is the best car I've ever owned, built like a tank.
Please do the 2020+ Toyota Highlander Hybrid AWD Platform! Thanks
I'm waiting for it to be available
Trips to the dollar store on a foggy morning; how did you know that's my favorite activity?
Thats why they offer AWD, for people like you 😉
How about the new 2021 Nissan rouge review thanks…
Great review, sure will never have a nissan.
How about a fun Nissan?
@@speedkar99 Z?
Where is the block heater located?
Nice review! I'd love to see you get your hands on a modern Volvo. Especially a T8 model with the hybrid, turbo, and supercharged 4 cylinder. 😂
Man those are so hard to come by. Is there any way to get more access to cars?
@@speedkar99 Maybe try Turo! I've seen Doug Demuro and other car reviews review rented cars.
A lot of Toyotas come with Japanese made tires or Germany.
Good thoughts
Love the engine. Like the Murano. Don't like the maintenance. Hate Nissan's CVT.
Agreed 100%.
On paper the design and engine is a good idea. Execution fail
Petition for Nissan to ditch the CVT
I think the cooling system is designed very poorly. It is hard to be serviced and the timing chain driven water pump can give you many headaches.
If it starts leaking, the coolant will mix with the engine oil which can cause catastrophic engine failure.
This is very stupid design and it never should have been implemented.
Apart from the chain driven water pump and the CVT transmission I think it’s not too bad SUV.
Again a great car review !
I think it's a good SUV but it's drawbacks really make it hard to work on
Go to the professional to do the work. Don't go to handyman. All new 🚗 are same one or other way. Hard to work by handyman.
Try to get one of the new accords next!
I'll try but Honda's aren't easy to just get
Why they do make some important parts so hard to reach ?
Packaging...most transverse V6 are like this
That's easy . So that you have to pay THEM to reach those parts.
Can you do 2015+ Genesis sedan next
Ok send me yours Please
@@speedkar99 I can only send you a 3.7 Q50
Please review the redrsigned Rogue (and the redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander for that matter) to see how Nissan's mindset changed after Ghosn stepped down (and after Nissan realized that they will be responsible for some engineering in newer Mitsubishis)
I have an eclipse cross review already. Waiting for the new rogue but not holding my breath lol
Could you please make a similar video for the second generation armada?
I own a 2015 Altima 2.5 with 110k+ miles and I take good care of it but the CVT is always in the back of my mind. I’m looking to sell it soon before it fails and becomes a money pit
How's it goin, Johnny murono here ! , I just picked up 2018 murono s about 8 months ago with just 6,000 miles on it , I just hit 20,000 miles ,should I change cvt fluid ?, i want too just because original fluid has been in it since 2018 and its now 2022 , that's going on 4 years ? I already went to two dealerships and they are trying to convince me not to,telling me it's too soon wait till 30,000 it's a waist of $ , doesn't the age of the fluid matter at all ? , please help I don't want to wait too long, im trying to baby this cvt ? , plus I luv this car ,real nice power nice ride ,it's black on black and when it's clean and waxed it's vicious lookin and I intend to drive it till the wheels fall off , any info to keep it running top top id highly appreciate it thank's !
Keep the fluid changed. If the dealership doesn't want your money find an independent mechanic that does.
That’s too soon 30k miles will be fine…I owned a 2016 murano and zero issues at all on cvt now it’s 61k miles done cvt changed every 30k miles
See my engine teardown videos. I have one for this VQ engine

I enjoy my 2014 murano. Installed extra radiators for cvt oil, now it'll never overheat.. I hope)
I know of a Murano with less than 40k miles on it develop a rear main seal leak.
That sucks
I wonder how much of the time when they are in for a repair they take the front off to get to things. I know some Volkswagens and Audis are like that. It must be a nightmare to work on them!!
