Bought a used one (2009) for my daughter last year. as a first car. It currently has 151K on it. Actually runs pretty good still to this day. We live in Erie PA where we get a lot of snow during the winter months. That's where the AWD helps a lot. Only real issue I've had is I had to replace the high pressure power steering hose, and the top motor mount. All around a great car so far.
2014 Nissan Murano SL that I have owned only for a year and a half so far. No problems, Praise God. I do regualar oil changes. Thank you for telling me to do transmission fluid flush. Will do. Great video keep up the good work.
These sound like an owner issue as opposed to a vehicle/design issue. I had a 2009 and now I have a 2017. I have never had any problems with either. But I also take good care and keep up with regular maintenance. True its not cheap - but neglect is way more expensive!! Great video though, very informative!
I have 09 Murano just like this one (mines is dark blue) I’ve always taken my Murano to the Nissan dealer for all maintenance and I’m sitting 204k miles and counting, no issues outside of the normal wear and tear, replacing the radiator, engine tune up and suspension pieces (struts, bearings, controls arms) were my biggest expenses - but the engine and transmission have been rock solid, feels like it can go another 200k miles easily.
@@crunchystrat2324 Yes I know! I think I've seen others like this color once or twice ever on the road - and its funny because all of the Nissan promo they used for this Murano mostly was in this color lol

Informative video, and great personality. Glad I found you! I have heard a lot about the transmissions going out, (by far the most common problem I've seen online) but your notes on aggressive driving are helpful. The thing accelerates almost like an electric, so it's a strong temptation to make it growl, lol. I love the smoothness of not being lurched by, or waiting on, gear changes, though. I found a pretty good annoyance on my second one of these, a '14 after my '11 was totaled: Rear wiper blade change requires removing the wiper arm. The manual just tells people to go to the dealer to get the rear blade changed. Instantly took me back to my Alero that needed the engine lifted to change the accessory belt! It went around the stupid engine mount.
I own a 2013 s model, purchased at 28.000 miles now has 87,000 and have had ZERO problems.....(None). same battery, just change the oil every 4000K miles and keep rolling. Never have changed the CVT fluid, and probably never will. As my neighbor changed his trans fluid in his 14 model, and 3 weeks later he was buying a New Transmission. I would buy another Murano tomorrow. Don't Hot Rod them, and keep the oil changed, and you could go infinity miles.... Good Video.
I own an 2011 Nissan Murano SL AWD. 2nd owner. I baby this car. I can’t really say that I have had any major issues except your basic wear and tear. Owned it for over 10 yrs. Still runs strong.
Let's keep these TOP 5 problem videos coming. You're killing it, Alex! Keep up the good work. P.S do one on the Chevy Traverse or Equinox...my wife wants one and I'm trying to keep her away from getting one. 😆 Those things seem to stay broken down.
Alex!! Omg you’re so great. Of course problem #1 is my car right now. 2013- it’s not a fan of long inclines. It can be steep, as long as it’s slow and not too long. It can be 1-2% grade but be a long incline and boom, the raving high and the rpm shoots up around 4/5. I have to remove my foot from the gas and go 40 ish or less. Now it gets a high rpm randomly around town. I’m being told it’s likely the transmission 😢
These 3.5 Nissan engines come on these Marano are unbelievably good, first of all they are manufactured in Japan not Mexico. I have a 2014 I’m approaching 400,000 miles and they have never had to do anything to the engine of course other parts were out like you mentioned the transmissions are pain in the ass but overall, this is an incredible car!
The 2nd generation Murano also has an issue with control arm bushings and one of the motor mounts. I think the transfer case is known to leak which could cause it to eventually fail as you mentioned. Stick to the FWD Murano if you live in a warmer climate.
Dude you helped me out so much. Thank you for a clear well explained video. Family member gave us a 2004 for our daughters first car. Had a rough idle and low power. Changed some coil packs and its running great. Looks like I have to replace the cats though to change ownership. Not looking forward to that. looks like a crappy long job.
The a/c wasn’t working in our 2012 and we were told we needed a new compressor but when they started the installation it was discovered that an electrical connector was melted. The repair was about $150.00. It made me wonder how many people pay for new compressors they don’t need. Find a mechanic you can trust.
Your videos are amazing. Thank you. Its a great job and helps a lot of people with their car buying decisions (sure helping me with it). Just a little note: the CVT stands for 'continuously variable transmission'. junk, by the way.
I have a 2009 Nissan Murano LE. I have the check engine light. You won't deal with this down in Georgia I suppose, but the AWD sure is nice in winter. I got a 14 about half a year ago and I'm going to have to do the vent valve. Looks easy enough anyway. Had an 07 two vehicles ago as well. Took it from 230 to 290 kms (divide by 1.6 for miles) with no problems. Hit a deer and wrote it off, but there was no indication that it wouldn't keep running for a long time yet! Hopefully my new one is just as reliable.

Great video, and Man do I feel the same about the Nissan Engineers! We have a 2010 Murano SL, I'm replacing the radiator that was spraying fluid onto the alternator which started failing. Doing both at the same time so I can get to that buried alternator without having to remove AC compressor.... Past that I LOVE this car!
Funny I just commented I had to get radiator replaced but I just 200k miles so it was probably time lol and yes love our Murano too it still looks great and it’s been pretty reliable
09 mo initial start, while idling it steady around 14.2 V after about 10 minutes of idling, it decreases rapidly, to roughly 6 V. Eventually leading to it stalling out. If you crank it up immediately thereafter you get what I refer to as, “a rolling click(trying to start, but not enough juice to do so). However; put the jump box on it and it will start. Wait about 30 minutes and you’re able to start it back up without the jump box, seemingly as though nothing happened. Originally the main symptom was I would be driving down the road “say” 45 miles an hour. Suddenly it would act almost as if you put it in L gear at a high rate of speed, then into limp mode it went, it would stay running though. Shut the car off , wait 5 mins and start it back up off you could go! I don’t believe it’s the alternator or battery, yet something drawing the battery. I’m so confused, what do you think it might be? Sorry for the Novel and thank you in advance.
Front wheel bearings are a problem, but they're not that bad to change but not super easy either. The dealership will service your transmission for about $230. Because it's a complicated transmission I think it's worth it to use the dealership for that. We do it every 60,000 miles, flush and fill. The alternator goes bad on this thing and normally an alternator is very easy. Changing the alternator on a 2012 Nissan Murano is murder. This is the hardest alternator in the world probably. Well I'm sure there are harder ones but it is very fucking hard. When I figured out how hard it was I bought the most expensive one they had. I still have not changed the spark plugs and has almost 170,000 MI, I really need to do that soon.
I have a 2013 Murano and so far so good! It has 112,000 miles on it and I have never changed the transmission fluid. I guess I better do this ASAP since I travel for business. I am looking at new cars and was waiting to see what the new 2024 Murano is going to change. I may look at the Toyota Highlander or Lexus RX350. The only thing I am not sure about these is that they are changing to a 4 cylinder turbo engine instead of the 6 cylinder. Your thoughts or suggestions on a new car. My company is buying it and I want the safest with least amount of expensive maintenance. Also looked at the Volvo 60.
You know Alex the reputation Nissan has about CVT transmissions is their own fault. People would ask where is the dipstick to check the fluid and Nissan dealers would say it is a sealed transmission no need for service or fluid checking which was False. They need service more than a traditional transmission. Like you said 25k-30k is about right for them. Personally if I owned anything with a CVT I would service it every 20k-25k because I have personally seen how dirty the fluid gets with one in just 20k miles. I did see they have stopped putting CVT in the new Pathfinder and went back to a traditional transmission and they just announced that they have purchased Renault's share in the company and are now back to 100% Nissan so I expect to see major improvements in their quality.
My sister is 2009 Nissan Murano S when it goes on the highway it does not go over 40 miles an hour is there anything you know that could be wrong with it
My check engine light came on, and I got a diagnostic that said the sensors are out. but now it is making a noise like something is wrong with the tire. Got the tire check and nothing is wrong with the tire. The sensors I got front and back sensors changed now I need to change the back. Not sure what's really wrong with the vehicle. Nissan Munro 2012
My 2014 (65k miles) nissan murano gets a po456 code occasionally. I replaced the gas cap. Light comes on when gas is half full, but not at full or near empty. The current problem I have is the 3rd part of the 3 part catalytic converter up near front of vehicle. I don't know if someone was sawing on that catalytic converter, or if it's just fraying and loose making the car sound loud.
I burnt once never again purchase any CVT total garbage! We still have my son's 2011 Nissan Cube CVT it failed at 106,000 miles with regular dealer recommended cvt fluid replacements. The rebuild CVT cost me $3500 with only 1 year or 12000 miles warranty in 2018! The Nissan Dealer in my area doesn't service nor told me there was a casiter filter inside they just drain & refill. I found this out on TY. I do all the CVT maintenance now not hard can't trust the dealers. So far CVT today has 84,000 miles 3 fluid replacements at 20000 miles and 1 pan drop with new casiter filter and clean screen filter with soap and water then let dry. Total Cube milage 197,000 miles the motor is bulletproof!
Yes we need our vitamins from the sun!! 😉 What is P0171 on Nissan engine? A P0171 code is set by your vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM) when it detects that the air-to-fuel ratio of your vehicle is too lean. This means that the PCM is relaying that the engine is receiving too much air into the combustion chamber
Hey, I have a 2010 Nissan Murano and it’s been having some coolant leaking issues any idea of what might need to be fixed? I really appreciate the video it kind of gave me an idea of what problems to look on too in the future. 😎
Bro. Thank you from Australia. My 07 is @ 220k kms. Theres always been oil leak, had alternator go a while back, have been told the transfer box needed rebuild (just left it and dont use), get engine light for trans and ive been told its dirty sensor. Recently had a quick service to look at slow leak of power fluid and couple days later i think i got one cylinder not sparking. Everything lines up with what your saying here particulary with valve cover gasket. Im gonna have a look at plugs and coils myself. Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated 👍

Alex, I took my teen driving and we shut the engine off in drive, now it gives this beeping park signal and when the door is closed is is even worse with an alarm. I've tried EVERYTHING. Any idea? 2012 Nissan Murano
I couldn’t stand cars! I was always cramped up knees hitting the steering wheel ducking in and out every time exiting and entering having to lean over when doing maintenance and to take things out the seats and groceries out the trunk tires slipping in snow all those things is over now when I finally got the Murano love it!!!
i've been constantly looking at used muranos, usually the ones in my price range are all wheel drive... WHY? it doesn't snow here, literally no snow this year, usually if it snows it's melting in a couple hours if it even shows up at all. full time all wheel drive is pointless to me, and then combine it with CVT?? grrr... i've had a couple nissan's and loved them, but haven't owned one with cvt... still really tempted, so many nice options. honestly would like a manual transmission in one, but never seen one, don't know if they even exist (at least in the US) but thanks for the honest opinion.
@@bluehunnids887 according to multiple web sites it is "intelligent all wheel drive" which means no matter what setting, if it senses the front tires losing traction it does use the rear wheels.. i did buy one. the "lock" button on mine actually says 4wd not awd, and the gauges have both.. AWD if it actually kicks in fully.. and 4WD if i hit the lock button. (mine is a 2010)
and virtually no chance i will EVER need all wheel drive... i drove in near blizzard conditions in mAssachusettes with a rear wheel drive 1966 chrysler for a couple years, never lost control even with crappy tires.

I have a 2012 Murano purchase in NC when we lived there and now up in Dam NY again and so far it has treated me and the wife well. The only issue it had so far was the AC compressor needed to be changed. When it comes to transmissions maint, my experience with them ( even 2 speed powerglides) whever I changed the fluids, a short time later I developped problems. I'm hard core OEM stuff yet the transmissions seem to haunt me after changing the fluids. So, my 2012 Murano has the same tranny fluid since 2012 with 110K miles at tis time and it runs well. Maybe because my wife drives it, not me. So I will agree these Muranos are ok in my book.
Question. Answered part where I should replace valve cover gaskets (whole piece as mentioned), which leaking may have caused my current issue, but exhaust has gotten loud by firewall, crawling under it, it sounds like the firewall pre-cat. Or would you think the manifold might be causing issue? Any advice on best way to tell? I just purchased a 2009 Nissan Murano S with about 165,000 miles on it and getting a tuned up. It's hard to answer without actually seeing and hearing vehicle but just looking for opinions. But liked part about valve cover replacements. Replacing my vent valve solenoid, P0455 code Also, with the lean conditions P0174, check Air Intake Duct for cracks.(just something I'm replacing, big cracks). And while I'm tearing all apart, changing spark plugs (NGK IX Iridium Spark Plugs) and checking throttle body and cleaning up. And replacing Transmission Filters(2) and fluid. Seems like nice little vehicle(have a 2018 Rogue I love), just needs some love! Interior and body is in fantastic shape, why fixing up! Thank you for video and your advice or anyone else's!
Hey Alex, I watch your videos and they are great! A bit about me and my car: I drive a 2017.5 Nissan Murano SL AWD, purchased new. It now has around 108K miles. I’ve always been diligent with maintenance, never missing a service. The CVT fluid was flushed at 65K and 90K miles. Considering the reviews online, I’m concerned about potential CVT issues and am thinking about trading in my car. Honestly, it’s been a comfortable and cost-effective vehicle compared to others, including some luxury models. Given the CVT concerns, do you think it’s safe to keep the car? I’d appreciate your thoughts.

@@crunchystrat2324 Yes I know! I think I've seen others like this color once or twice ever on the road - and its funny because all of the Nissan promo they used for this Murano mostly was in this color lol
@@crunchystrat2324 Thats what I have - LE, tan interior, pano roof, every option including NAV, 20gb hd for audio, I've made some light mods to it over the years, blacked out the rims, slightly larger chrome exhaust tips but it still looks great I can't bear to part with it.
Thank you Alex. Well done. Am looking at a 2014 now.
Let's keep these TOP 5 problem videos coming. You're killing it, Alex! Keep up the good work. P.S do one on the Chevy Traverse or Equinox...my wife wants one and I'm trying to keep her away from getting one. 😆 Those things seem to stay broken down.

It’s the same as the traverse
@@AlexTheCarDoctor7uxTXWBIUdbTybeel lout😊
Do not walk away from a Chevy tranverse or equinox run away from them !!
I wouldn’t touch that with a 10 ft pole 😂
Wow that’s nice I hope mine makes it that far
The 2nd generation Murano also has an issue with control arm bushings and one of the motor mounts. I think the transfer case is known to leak which could cause it to eventually fail as you mentioned. Stick to the FWD Murano if you live in a warmer climate.
Dude you helped me out so much. Thank you for a clear well explained video. Family member gave us a 2004 for our daughters first car. Had a rough idle and low power. Changed some coil packs and its running great. Looks like I have to replace the cats though to change ownership. Not looking forward to that. looks like a crappy long job.
AWD is great for the snow in snowy terrain so its great that and slippery when wet.
The a/c wasn’t working in our 2012 and we were told we needed a new compressor but when they started the installation it was discovered that an electrical connector was melted. The repair was about $150.00. It made me wonder how many people pay for new compressors they don’t need. Find a mechanic you can trust.
I found you on TikTok, so I had to come to TH-cam videos, subscribed in bell rang!!
Appreciate bro!
Your videos are amazing. Thank you. Its a great job and helps a lot of people with their car buying decisions (sure helping me with it). Just a little note: the CVT stands for 'continuously variable transmission'. junk, by the way.
I bought mine from my job with 160k for 300$ been running straight, yet my psp has started to go. Good car if you get it for a good price
Great video. Spot on. I have all those issues. I would add power steering pump, AC compressor (magneto part), door lock actuator 😂
This is why I love TH-cam. Thanks
I have a 2009 Nissan Murano LE. I have the check engine light. Yes, Alex nice video. Now please answer some of these questions about these cars having no acceleration.
2days ago am having the problem 😢
You won't deal with this down in Georgia I suppose, but the AWD sure is nice in winter.
I got a 14 about half a year ago and I'm going to have to do the vent valve. Looks easy enough anyway. Had an 07 two vehicles ago as well. Took it from 230 to 290 kms (divide by 1.6 for miles) with no problems. Hit a deer and wrote it off, but there was no indication that it wouldn't keep running for a long time yet! Hopefully my new one is just as reliable.
Mine have 250 k n more now my suv not moving into drive i really love my car I have it over 6 years it’s a 2013 I keep up with all my oil changes and changing whatever needs to change but yesterday it not moving!! Omg I’m stuck but still alive thank Goodness because it stop right after I got off the highway but it wasn’t safe but lord got me !! I need to get it fixxxx now I got a code of 1715 po 500

Done the valve covers, oil cooler seal, new vac hose at air intake, CVT fluid for vibration.
I appreciate this because I'm actually thinking about buy one

Got a 2011 murano with 193,000 and NO SERVICE HISTORY!
should I change the transmission fluid doing a drain and fill plus changing both filters?
Thanks for sharing your "insider knowledge"!
Glad it was helpful!
Alex, I wish you were closer. I’m all the way in TX. Definitely would take my car to you! Love your video
I like this. You have great style and explanation. Very helpful and I can make it thru.
Thanks so much!
Thanks im thinking about buying 1 this wk
Great video. I'm looking to buy a Murano Cabroliet and I learned a lot
The convertible top assembly is quite problematic on the cross-cabriolet version.
Yes it is.
2015 model, already had to replace the CVT top and the valve cover body.
Also looked at the Volvo 60.
looking to buy a 2013 so no issues ?
Great Information man thank you for sharing the info and your time
You bet! Thanks for watching.
I own this car you nailed it
I like your conclusion
My Murano has a problem with reverse. It only works when it cold but as the engine gets heated up and hot, it works no more..
Vacuum leak code(s) P0171 or P0174. I have mine now on my Maxima
I have a 2009, 274k miles, by far the best car I have owned, still looks new
Wow you must keep up with your maintenance faithfully
Great video!!! You explain everything so well!! You’re a great teacher. I’m subbing keep up the good content.
I don't know if someone was sawing on that catalytic converter, or if it's just fraying and loose making the car sound loud.
my 2009 murano is using up a lot of gas. It's giving about 160 miles per gallon. No check engine light though. Don't know what could be wrong
You should do a top 5 problems with the 2015-2017 Chrysler 200. You would need 5 parts!
Or 2 car’s side by side lol

Transfer box issue - what a nightmare to replace
What is P0171 on Nissan engine?
A P0171 code is set by your vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM) when it detects that the air-to-fuel ratio of your vehicle is too lean. This means that the PCM is relaying that the engine is receiving too much air into the combustion chamber
Hey great video, I need some help with a 2015 Murano that loses power and a 'long' drive
Good video. I wish U would of stated how often to change tranfercaae flouted tho
Hi I have a 2011 Nissan Marano and it has poor acceleration. I took it to the Nissan dealership and they gave me a quote of almost $10,000 worth of work to be done to my vehicle but it still runs.

this was very insightful. thank you.
Thanks for your feedback. 🤗
Do you think I should buy 2009 Nissan Murano or 2014 Nissan Maxima
I couldn’t stand cars! I was always cramped up knees hitting the steering wheel ducking in and out every time exiting and entering having to lean over when doing maintenance and to take things out the seats and groceries out the trunk tires slipping in snow all those things is over now when I finally got the Murano love it!!!
i've been constantly looking at used muranos, usually the ones in my price range are all wheel drive... WHY? it doesn't snow here, literally no snow this year, usually if it snows it's melting in a couple hours if it even shows up at all.
full time all wheel drive is pointless to me, and then combine it with CVT?? grrr... i've had a couple nissan's and loved them, but haven't owned one with cvt... still really tempted, so many nice options. honestly would like a manual transmission in one, but never seen one, don't know if they even exist (at least in the US)
but thanks for the honest opinion.
It’s not full time awd it’s front wheel drive and has a button to put it in awd lock at lower speeds
Love your videos, keep up the great work ❤😅
Thank you mam 🤗
2013 nissan murano. why After replacing CVT, car engine light is always on?? how to remove it?? is it risky to drive like that?
I sold my car, I was the second owner of the car. I had to replace the transmission 2 years ago, and it failed on me now. I would never recommend this year model, 2010 Nissan murano LE AWD. It only had 128k mileage.
My 2014 nissan murano, when pushing the gas pedal it want accelerate. No the engine does not rail up. But I keep pushing the gas pedal then it takes off
I have a 2012 Murano purchase in NC when we lived there and now up in Dam NY again and so far it has treated me and the wife well.

Hey Alex,
I watch your videos and they are great!

What about speaker issues on the Murano I have a 2006 Murano with speaker problems they come on and off when they want and they sound horrible like one day they were fine and while riding my front 2 went out and back started sounding real statically
I have a 2009 Nissan Murano and the problem is that I run it at 40 miles per hour and suddenly it loses power and doesn't accelerate. After that, the air conditioning turns off, all the lights on the dashboard turn on and then all the lights on the dashboard turn off and the engine turns off and from there it doesn't turn on anymore, I have to give it power so that it can turn on again
