I have a 2014 Nissan rogue sl with 213,000 miles and I didn’t have any problem at all. I just kept up with the maintenance that I needed to do. My vehicle was great absolutely no issues at all.
My sister had 2000 altima model, did 250k and the engine needed major work, so she donate it, but there were no transmission problems, no problems with suspension
I have got 77000 miles on my 2015 Nissan Rogue and have had absolutely zero problems. Only did regular oil change and transmission fluid change every 30000 miles
Your not "what to buy" but "what to fix" approach is refreshing. We know the 2 brands that do everthing right, but either not present or extra expensive at the dealerships, you go over the affordable set. Auto mechanics are an important part of life.
True talk! I have a 2018 Rogue with 194K on it...and it's still going strong. I have kept up with the oil change and transmission fluid flush...and that's all I do. I bought it 3yrs ago with 42K miles on it. Yes, I had a oil leak at 16oK miles that cost around $900 to fix and had to change the alternator around 180K miles (which is not too bad at that mileage). Other than this, it has been a great vehicle, great on gas, and otherwise low maintenance. I didn't mind spending the money when it needed attention because the car pays for itself...I've made an average of 70K a year in the last 3 yrs driving the same car for Uber. My point is, if you find a good one with good maintenance history, you buy it and follow the Nissan recommended service schedule, you will be happy😅
I have a 2018 Rogue SV AWD with 186K miles. Original owner, oil change 5-6K miles, CVT fluid every 40K. Already replaced the alternator and belt. Already replaced struts, shock, all rotors and LCA at 150K. Replaced spark plugs and coolant at 110K. I always use OEM Brake Pads when servicing my brakes. One of my tailgate struts went out and replaced with a cheap one from Amazon, learned a lesson not to go cheap on this one, ended up spending $400 for the OEM. I am already on my 3rd battery and 4th set of tires. I drive my Rogue like a sports car always using the Sport Mode or the Manual Shift, this motor likes to be on the high end and its responds well even with a CVT. Current issue is that my Fuel Temp Sensor that is attached to my Fuel Pump went out so I have a CEL on and the driver side subframe bushing has now failed so I am getting that noise from time to time whenever I am hitting a dip and on a turn. I will be replacing my transfer case and diff fluid which is way overdue on my next oil change. My Rogue has or is serving me well, I would not categorize it as bad car, I think it just comes down to maintenance.
Your car is only 5 yrs old most people on a budget are buying older models. I came here trying to figure out if a 2012 or 2014 was gonna last me the next 5 yrs. If a car company can't make a car that last 5 yrs they should be out of business even my moms old Kia lasted 10 yrs be4 the frame rotted out. Theres a huge difference between a 2018 with 200,000 miles and a 2010 with 200,000.
My dilemma is I can by a 2014 rogue for 5000 or a 2005 toyota highlander or rav4 so do I want a newer car that maybe someone dumped cuz they didn't do maintenance and it's on the last leg or maybe get lucky and be ok or an old reliable toyota. Tough decision
@@bobg6715 but then you want to come to youtube and cry about how you have had to replace almost everything in a car?? maybe stop trying to drive a rogue like its a ferrari, every car has its limits, m4ron
I’ve had my 2018 Nissan Rogue SV for 7 years. It had 18k miles when purchased. It now has 215k miles. I’m a sales rep for a medical company and I haven’t had any major issues with my rogue. She’s still chucking along. lol. Fingers crossed we’ll make it way past 300k! Routine oil changes, tires, and new spark plugs. 🙏🏽❤️
This is normal for a rogue of that vintage, and it's due to your maintenance on it over all those miles. I would recommend that you get the CVT fluid changed sooner rather than later. It should be done every 35-45K miles
Alex I love your channel, it is the 1st ever that I have subscribed to, good to know there are honest and competent mechanics like you as a 43 year veteran with my own shop the big problem is finding good help, it is almost impossible seems like you can get a guy that can do a few things but to find the guy that can handle what ever drives in is real hard
You are absolutely right! Good help is hard to find. And on top of that, one of my employees passed away last week 😔 he was the best! I’m gonna miss him dearly! Also thank you for subscribing, it’s an honor that I’m the first 😏 and thank you for your service to our country 🫡
hey Alex I need to clear things up, when I said I was a 43 year veteran I was talking about my time in the auto repair field, was never in the military, although I feel like I have been in a few wars , a big battle with a prius, and a tahoe 6 speed transmission, won both wars, gotta take the good with the bad, and live to fight again
sad to hear that your friend and co worker passed away, you said he was an older guy (so am I), but us old guys know a lot and are hard to replace, but the young guys will learn it just takes time
I'm only at 19k miles on my 2016 rouge. I came here looking for maintenance advice. I'm glad to hear about the transmission maintenance before I get any surprise bills 😅.
I guess my 2014 Rogue has been a unicorn. Bought it new in December 2013 and now have 211K miles, everything is original. Around 170K the dealer advised me I should replace lower control arms but a friend with a shop looked at it and said they were ok. At 210K my engine light came on and it's the catalytic converter. I had the transmission serviced at 30,60,90, 140, and 190K miles and is doing fine. The Cat is going to be $1500 to replace and will need brakes and tires in another 3-6 months so I will probably let it go soon to avoid putting 2500-3000 in this car and put it towards the next. My 2014 Nissan Rogue has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.
Thank you for your comment, just a quick question, have you changed the transmission fluid or have you done the flush and refill for the transmission fluid? Thanks.
I have a 2018 Nissan rogue and I have had great success with it. I maintenance the vehicle as I should (oil, filter, air filter, cabin filter, transmission, transcase and rear differential.) I have changed spark plugs, put new breaks/rotors on too. The only problem I have had so far is the alternator and I went ahead and replaced it and put a new battery in as well. I am at 124,000 miles and still going good. Thanks for pointing out other issues, I will keep an eye on them. Would you please discuss other possible problems with a Rogue so I can keep it up. Thanks 😊
@@austinhs6925 I think some of these posts seem to be by bots......often saying similar things.....to try to convince people these are good cars....and they are not. I just cae across another person this week...with a failed CVT transmission...that is very expensive to repair.
@@joeidaho5938 currently sitting on a $4,200 shop bill for a new rear differential replacement, we drove on a spare tire for two days less than 20 miles and it ruined the rear diff. You live and you learn… expensive but its got to be paid, i didnt do the research i should have before buying a rogue back in 2020, 70,000 miles on the dot and had a transmission fluid change at 60k and now the new rear diff, it drives like new now, just hoping to keep the car in good shape until its paid off to TRADE IT IN!
Good tips for what to lookout for. I have a '18 Rogue with 211k. Running like a champ. Just had to change the blower motor yesterday. Overall haven't had too many big issues. Haven't changed antifreeze or trans fluid yet. Bought it with 40k.
Your comment gave me hope. I purchased 2017 rogue for my daughter this past weekend. I am not sure how this experience will go but I need 4 years out of this car 🤣 hopefully I’m lucky enough
My last rogue ran 288k changed the transmission oil Every 60k CVT , drive down hill and shift to neutral! Don’t let your car idle still more than 5 minutes . Treat it nice and it will return the favor!
Although I own the same car and I love it I can't argue with this video everything he saying is true the parts are just not made to last long. I haven't had any Issue with my Rogue but rest assure I'll take your advise seriously!!!! I'll service the transmission fluid when the time comes.
My 2016 rouge sl has had zero issues with it. Other than regular maintenance on it and wear and tear it’s been a phenomenal car. Zero leaks, doesn’t burn any oil. Everything works in it and still looks new. But I also have the top of the line rouge. Not sure if that makes a difference
2018 Nissan Rouge is a beast I bought it brand new and knock on wood never had 1 problem. I bought my mom 1 and she never had a CVT issue. I kept it maintained and hers also was a beast.
Great points to know and remember! Great video! I am in my 3rd Rogue and I really like it! If you maintain it, it will last! I will buy another one just before 60,000 miles (because I get the best trade in value)!
@@AlexTheCarDoctor sadly the factory fuse reset didn't work for me, my battery was recently changed so next i will unhook the battery and rehook again to see if that resets the rear door latch. I hear it lock and unlock when at the back of the car and depressing the button on the lift-gate manually but it doesn't open. It had acted funny for a day or two before not opening buy only opening half way....i was going to try to reset the lift gate button to make sure it was set to open fully ...but needless to say that ship sailed. If the battery connection doesn't work...could it be an individual fuse itself..the lift gate button on the dash has no reaction at all.
I just clocked 100K miles on my 2017 rogue. Live in FL and have no issues with the car to date. Done all the maintenance (except the transmission). They don't push it at the dealership.
@@Raul-ys5vm This is how you keep ANY vehicle running well with less than average problems. I would however suggest that you drain/fill the CVT fluid. Usually should be done every 35-40K miles
You are so right about the rogue. I have a 2009 rogue, bought brand new. I have done on schedule every maintance on it. It currently had 106 thousand miles on it and I had to have the CVT rebuild. I don't even wait 25,000 miles before replacing the cvt fluid abd it still didn't do NO GOOD!! I got replaced in 2020 and of yesterday the transmission is slipping again. I am saying bye bye to nissan. I am going back to where I came from. Will be shopping this week back ti Toyota and Honda. Not coming out if these 2 anymore. I have learned my lesson.
That rubber plug can be replaced with an aftermarket dipstick purchased on Amazon for about $30. Just FYI to inform your customers in an effort to increase the maintenance frequency for the transmission by replacing the fluid every 20,000 miles with a full synthetic.
I had no clue about the CVT until after I bought my 2017 rogue. After 52K had my fluid changed. Now at 90k and had my fluid changed again. It sucks having to do this extra maintenance but it beats buying a new transmission
Any automatic or manual transmission needs a fluid change! It is completely normal to change it around 40-80k Miles, depending of how you drive and type of transmission. (also DONT forget to change the CVT filter)
My wife’s rogue is a 2017 with 93000 miles right now and we have had 0 problems with it. Would I recommend it to anyone absolutely yes 100% it has been reliable like I said with zero problems.
I have two rogues and drive my 2016 everyday for work. I haven't had much trouble with mine but I started life out as a mechanic and I wouldn't really recommend this car to anyone. I know the weaknesses of the this car and actively fight against them. If you aren't changing your transmission oil and filters regularly then you will be changing the transmission or the car, possibly both. I already had the job done on my nephews 2014.
I have a 2014 Rogue and just replaced the struts. Went to get an alignment and they told me my control arm bushings are bad too. Just tried to replace the control arms yesterday and I absolutely cannot get the ball joint bolt out. Got the nut off easy but the bolt is seized solid as a rock. Beat on it for an hour with my biggest hammer and it won’t even budge. I could only dream of having as little rust as the car in this video. Living in the rust belt is hell on vehicles.
I have a Nissan rogue with more than 300,000 miles on it and is as of now at least 10 years old and the only issue we’ve ever had with it was tires which is normal for any car and the battery which died on me on a really icy cold night, but other than that, this is probably the best car I have and we’ll ever own check ups aren’t cheap but we’ve taken care of this baby for a long time😂. No transmission failures no driving failures just a regular old tuneup and oil change every once in a while and this thing has been beautiful and like I said recently, a new battery barely any scuffs and scratches this car looks like it’s only been used for three years but it’s been way of hell longer than that😂
Getting nervous about all the talk of CVT failure. I’m a DIYer and did the fluid filter and external filter yesterday. At 70k I was really surprised how clean everything was. Even the magnets were pretty clean. Got the CVT NS3 really cheap so I did an extra drain and fill after putting 50 miles on the new fluid. But I feel much better now.
honestly just sounds that aside from the transmission (which is horrible) everything else just comes down to the quality of parts and keeping up with maintenance. like you said i still wouldn't put my daughter in this, but if you already have one, you better make sure you keep up with the maintenance.
The transmission is not horrible, but unfortunately if you do not flush and refill the CVT fluid every 35-50K miles, you are asking for potential failure of the CVT. This is why you read so much about the CVT failures with the 4 cylinder Nissan Rogue. If owners would take some time to read the mainenance intervals clearly listed in your owners manuals, you would likely avoid these issues.
That was a great break down thank you. So in your opinion which vehicle low in price, most reliable and has the least maintenance problems to purchase.
The comparable Mits Outlander is very similar to the Rogue (same engine as the 21 Rogue)...and it has the same CVT as the 21 Rogue. No turbo.@@AlexTheCarDoctor
I have a nissan Rogue 2015 I purchased new, and I've never had a mechanical issue with it. I've charged the oil every 5000 miles and the filter. Just changed the spark plugs a year ago. Ive never had an issue with the transmission. It has $119,000 miles on it. I love my Rogue.
My mom has a 2017 Rogue that she bought brand new & at present it has a little over 30,000 miles. I had to pick her up from Nissan on Tuesday she had to take it in after it had repeatedly her gas peddle seemed to not work until shed turn the car off and back on again. Later tuesday she learned that the CVT has to be replaced and it's gonna cost close to $10,000. My mom's only mistake was not researching before she bought it but then as the comments for this video shoow some Rogue owners have had no problems and love their car. My mom loves her rouge and originally planned on getting another in the future when the time came to replace her current one. It seems like they can be great but when they go bad, they GO BAD. She is currently waiting to her from Nissan she contacted the quality control department who got back to her yesterday to say theyd contact the dealership to try and work out something a bit more reasonable considering shes not even reached 50,000 miles yet. I hope they do work with her as she cant afford the cuurent work needed. I'm trying to be positive for her sake but I have little faith in giant corperations given they are not legally required to do anything as shes owned the car for 8 years and while shes taken care of it the warrenty ended awhile ago. But hey maybe Nissan will surpise me and help her out. Alex thanks for the video and confirming what Ive come to suspect about Nissan and their CVT transmissions.
Some common problems I see with the rogues , especially first gen, are the sub frame bushings and a/c compressors. I believe the compressors go bad prematurely because of the cvt. Oh, and I had an 09 rogue that I did a drain and fill on the trans every oil change and added an extra cooler.
@scrambler69-xk3kv just every third drain and fill. Sold the rogue about 3 years ago, still going but the new owner doesn't do the kind of maintenance I've done.
May I ask you, I’m about to pull the trigger on a used rogue 1st gen a 2013 to use as a daily. After reading so much about Nissans and how unreliable they are I am starting to look for alternative brands. But for the 1st gen fugues, you recommend changing the trans fluid at every oil change? It’s crazy. My first car was a b15 03 sentra which was a bullet. I own a cx9, and Rx 350f sport and thank goodness I don’t see any issues to date and I pamper them
I have a 2015 Rogue S At 120,000 I have replaced motor mounts (4) Shocks and Struts CVT fluid change ( drain and fill) every 45000 miles and filter at 120,000 miles , with a good scanner you can find out how good is your CVT fluid (0/4000 new , at 45000 miles was 2600/4000 value ) Valve cover stars leaking very minimal at 100,000 miles so at 120000 I will get it replace and change spark plugs, boot coils.
My 2020 Nissan 2.5 XTrail (Rogue) 4x4 with stepped 7 speed CVT has been super reliable and economical up to now and one of the best cars I have ever owned. I have owned ± 20 cars of various brands over the last 45 years. (All new exept two).
I guess I have a unicorn... I have 2016 Rogue and have had absolutely no issues. I have kept up the maintenance just like I would with any car that I own. I know that the CVT can be an issue, but I haven't had that with mine. I love my Rogue!!!
Thanks so much for this video but I wish I would’ve seen it 4 years ago! lol 😂 Yes, I have one already a 2018. What car do you recommend someone to buy?
I have a 2016 rogue with 303,000 km. Only changed brake pads and 1 set of tires. I use highest quality synthetic and keep an eye on all fluids. Never had an issue. On extremely hot days when accelerating from a standstill. Pushing the accelerator down a bit wont make the vehicle to ahead right away, maybe 1.5 seconds later it will. Strange but I always just push it a bit if it happens and let the transmission finally engage. All other times it's great. I drive very gently all my life. If my trans goes, I may just replace it, the rest of the vehicle is perfectly fine. I'd rather buy Toyota, my wife picked the Nissan, I told her that I'd rather pick a Rav 4 but I told her she can choose, so she did and now she said I was right... we'll go Toyota from now on, no questions asked ! I still get amazing gas mileage! I've always gotten way better mileage on all my cars than the manufacturer says i should get.
I took over my wifes 2017 nissan rogue( lost her last year) its in great condition 50K miles garage kept and no problems. After viewing this clip i do believe im moving it forward. Houston Tx
Going to disagree here. We are on our second Xtrail ( Rogue ) here in Australia and out of 500,000kms of driving we have only had one issue between both cars and that’s the cruise control just stopped.
I am in the USA and this thing has been a nightmare, in the Pacific Northwest. I crashed it into a cement curb in the snow and it bent the the tie rod, and some other damage. Since I got it back from the shop, it has been all over the place in normal weather. I don't feel safe with my daughter in the back seat. This vehicle is too tall and prone to breakdowns. I am already experiencing transmission failure at 82,000 miles. I changed the CVT fluid and replaced the filter in transmission, which was a bad idea. I torqued the pan to spec and it stripped, the pan bolts to aluminum transmission block. Had to pay a shop $2400 to plug, drill and tap new bolts. This vehicle has been nothing but problems.
Hey buddy from Australia. Use your noggin ok? America/Canada Nissans are built to different specs and have harsher climates to deal with. It may not get as hot as Australia but the issue is extreme ranges of temp doubt a number on cars not to mention the tons of road salt rotting out the underbody. Good for you, but the context of this video is for North American owners egghead.
It all comes down to maintenance with any car. Most people don’t change fluids beyond an oil change or when something goes wrong. Everything you need is in the service manual. Just follow the recommendations and your car will last a lot longer than a 100k miles.
These are machines, they will need something eventually. I have two rogues , im always looking at used car prices, but hardly ever see Nissan rogue for sale as much as other makes🧐
We had a 2014 Nissan Rogue with the 2.5L engine as well. It was the previous body style, not the one in this video. At 68,000 miles I had to change the lower control arms, strut assemblies, and outer tie rods. At 72,000 miles I had to change the passenger side cv axle because the inner joint started to fail. Right after that the transmission started going and we traded it off for a 2015 Toyota Highlander. That was a great decision because the Highlander is a much better vehicle.
I purchased a 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport as a daily driver and one thing I noticed was that every time I drove it my ears would start ringing. I started doing research on the cause of the noise the Rouge was making and discovered it was due to the whine of the CVT. I was also upset to find that my Nissan was propelled by a friggin rubber band and had to be driven it like a grandmother. After 4 months I traded it in for a 2023 Mazda CX-30 Carbon and it is a fantastic automobile.
We have a 2018 Nissan rogue which we bought with 25 thousand kilometres on it and it now has 54 thousand on it and it is driven by an 89 year old gentleman who babies it and just had a water issue in the driver side and it was a lot. Fifteen gallons and brought it to the dealer who looked at the sunroof drains and the air conditioner drain and found the air drain to be plugged which was causing the water leak. Lo and behold we called all state insurance for coverage as we were getting a moldy/musty smell that was just overpowering and were told that it was not covered. The service department told us that it was covered by other insurance companies that came into our service department for the same problem. Still fighting with the insurance over this.
Hey Alex , very refreshing approach to vehicle maintenance and repair. I appreciate your openness. I have a 2015 Nissan Rogue select that is losing power upon acceleration. Any advice you could give on where to start
Hi Judy - I work at Nissan (Canada) and recommend you take it to a dealer and have them scan it. If the CVT is about to fail, it should throw a code to the tech. It is important to change/flush and refill the CVT fluid every 35-40,000 miles as well. Hope this will help!
Hey Alex I was searching for information on the Nissan rogue 2014 and came upon your video. I subscribed and like your video too. I must admit that I don’t know much about cars because I was to buy one of the same 2014 cars but the transmission needs to be replaced. Was wondering if I should go ahead and buy it and fix the transmission or should I just forget about it. Please advise me. Thanks
Bought a 2017 used with 45,000 miles. The only issue we had was with the control arm going out. Otherwise it's just maintenance stuff. Now has 190,000 miles and runs great. My only complaint is that it has loud road noise and a bit of a rough ride. Yes it;s not a sports-car but we have driven from Washington to Florida and back without any problems. It handles really well in snow/icy conditions.
Everything you discussed is everything my mother had replaced on her 2017 Rogue (362,000 miles), it now has a broken window motor. She wants my Land Cruiser instead.
I got a 2015 rogue select, my transmission has been slipping lately and yesterday I had to leave my car where I stopped at because my car wouldn’t even engage, rpm’s rev but no movement or anything. I’m not sure if it’s just needing a flush or new transmission. I’m at 199,000 miles rn and never had these problems until the cold weather came around. I’m all ears tho
I have a 2017 Nissan Sentra with 123,000 miles on it. I have changed the fluid but every 30,000 miles. Still the original CVT. Never had a problem with it.
I had a 2014 Nissan Rogue I drove it for 9 years and 292000 MI with no problems the only major issue that I had was changed the blowing fan besides regular maintenance and new tires I didn't do jack to that car.
great advice on cvt transmissions Alex, they will not last long if you drive like a teenager, if you are unlucky and have one change the filters every 20,000 ( yes I said filters, there is one in the pan and a 2nd behind the cooler) and drive it like Alex's grandma and you might have a chance, leading cause of failure on these is the high pressure pump overheating and they are not repairable
2017 Rogue sport SL with 32k miles. Last week radiator fan went out. Got one on amazon $80. Brought to dealer today for tranny flush $309. The told me both lower control arms are bad, both Outter tie rods need to be replaced as well... Oh and brake pads all around... Then recommend i flush the coolant and power steering fluid as well.. Shouldve had momma get a toyota Florida car, driven by a senior..
I bought 2018 Rogue about a year ago at 75000 miles. It is at 91K right now and the only issue I am having with this is the climate control. Hot & Cold is good on passenger side but all other vents blowing ambient air and have not found any confident tech offering long term solution for this ...... will apreciate any good suggestion
My 2016 rogue sl has 286,000 miles on it. I know I'm on borrowed time. Right now its down for the the alternator. That would be the original but I was quoted $497 for the alternator at Advanced auto parts. I drive it for Lyft these days and baby for decent MPG.
ok im at 49.000 miles on my 2017 Rouge and after watching this i really wanna sell but it hasn't given me any issues at all and i change the oil myself.
We have Nissan xtrail in Iraq which built in Japan it is very good car no issues at all, I think the problem in Rogue is manufacturer because Rogue is build in USA and Canada or maybe the parts are cheap.
I have owned my 2017 Nissan rouge for 5 years now got it with 53k miles on it and it now has 194k miles on it. I have never had problems yet with the transmission
At 6:40 the word you’re looking for is MOUNT. It’s the strut mount. We know you know the word. Happens to all of us: a word you use all the time and one day you just can’t remember.
I have a 2016 awd nissan rouge ...it has 108k miles so far no major issues ....I did hear like a hissing sound or something bouncing up n down by the driver tire around axle area...wonder what could that be ...hope you write back bro been a fan
Hi! I am back, I've been wondering should I avoid the Honda Accord 2018 with the 1.5t engine? Pls let me know! I'd appreciate it haha, I am just really indecisive, wanting to make the best choice for me and my friend that're buying the car together!
I have a 2018 Rogue with 62,000 kilometers. Just last month I replaced back control arms and brakes and MVI cost me 22000!!!! Then 2 weeks ago I ran over something which caused my "coupler" on my rear wheel needing to be replaced!!!! The cost was $4100!!!!! To top it off I was coming home from my daughter's and 2 hours in on a 4 hour a maintenance light came on stating something is wrong with the oil and filter and tires. I have maintenance on my Rogue every 6 months!!!!! Soooooooo fed up!!!
I can not confirm all the statements in this video. We're a really long-time user of Nissan cars in the US as in Germany as well. We owned Altima, Serena, Rogue, Primera, Versa. On only one ( Rogue) we run in engine problems after 108000 miles. I don't know what it was because Carmax traded it with no questions. I think to avoid all these problems the most important thing is, search a good authorized repairshop whom you can trust, go there when Nissan Service-Intervalls come out and drive the car with an understanding of a technical device. If you safe the money for maintenance, you will pay it for towing!
i didnt realize this car had a cvt till i purchased it and i traded in my lincoln mkz bc the rocker panels rusted out. now i have buyers remorse and im constantly worrying about the tranny
Have a look at the Rogue hybrids also 2016-2017.. they are a piece of work also. Early transmission failures and brake motor failures, suspension issues, sunroof leaks... Nissan has never acknowledged these problems!
@@scrambler69-xk3kv only at 100k - i have a friend with a 2014 - 276k miles and original CVT , bought new and maintained the cvt every 30k, besides tires, battery and brakes. No issues at all
Yup I hate them damn transmissions for sure and my family has 2 cars with them in it, the 2014 Chevy Sonic LTZ 1.4l turbo is getting ready to turn 30,000 on the OD so I’m thinking it’s that time to do the trans service on that, my question is do you just extract the fluid type service or should you do the GM full service where it’s fluid change and filter there are no problems with it other then when you tell them the Damn thing drives like a stick not a automatic and they look at you with 6 eyes 👀 but it’s a automatic 🤷🤦
I normally don’t mess with the filter if it’s not easy accessible. I’m not really a transmission expert, but I’ve had great success of doing transmissions fills only.
Just drain it dry, measure what came out, and carefully put in the same amount with new fluid. That's the drain-n-fill...just do it every 30,000 miles and drive a CVT like a conservative person should.
We have had nothing but problems with our 2018 model, it’s been in for faulty air valves the electric boot stopped working the breaks needed doing and it’s back in now with a broken flywheel
True, Every vehicle has some problems but if you fix them asap you will be fine.. people tend to disregard their car manual.
Common problems don’t mean every car will have them. And if you do have them it doesn’t mean you haven’t kept up with regular maintenance.
Same here my 2014 Nissan Rogue AWD got 172,500 miles on it. Just keep up maintenance on time. So far so good.
Auto mechanics are an important part of life.
for the rest of us who don't have the $$ to pay double for those two
Maybe stop driving it like that then .
If you want to race this is definitely not the car , it’s extremely slow
@@vlz.matthew Its my car, I’ll drive it anyway I want. It does not have to be fast car for it to be a fun car to drive.
The mechanic’s stethoscope killed me. 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching buddy
You nailed it. I had 4 out of 5 things you mentioned on 2009 Rogue
Thanks.
@@alexlaura1486 Yes I had it changed every 40-50K miles
I have a 2018 Nissan rogue and I have had great success with it. I maintenance the vehicle as I should (oil, filter, air filter, cabin filter, transmission, transcase and rear differential.) I have changed spark plugs, put new breaks/rotors on too. The only problem I have had so far is the alternator and I went ahead and replaced it and put a new battery in as well. I am at 124,000 miles and still going good. Thanks for pointing out other issues, I will keep an eye on them. Would you please discuss other possible problems with a Rogue so I can keep it up. Thanks 😊
I have a 2015 and same regular maintenance, now the transmission is going to shit which will make the car just a pile of junk.
what intervals do you do for your transcase as well as the rear differential?
@@austinhs6925 I think some of these posts seem to be by bots......often saying similar things.....to try to convince people these are good cars....and they are not. I just cae across another person this week...with a failed CVT transmission...that is very expensive to repair.

Great video. I noticed control arm rot is usually a north out cold weather area issue due to salting of the roads
Good tips for what to lookout for. I have a '18 Rogue with 211k. Running like a champ. Just had to change the blower motor yesterday. Overall haven't had too many big issues. Haven't changed antifreeze or trans fluid yet. Bought it with 40k.

Thanks for keeping it real. Loved your candid answers! Best to you. Unfrotunately, I have a 2017 Rogue and hate it.
2018 Nissan Rouge is a beast I bought it brand new and knock on wood never had 1 problem. I bought my mom 1 and she never had a CVT issue. I kept it maintained and hers also was a beast.
We both abused it even took it mudding. Once you fix Nissan or Toyota, they last forever. You have to maintain them

2017 Nissan Rogue SL trim75,000 miles no problems..
Keep up the good work and it should last you a long time.yeah I agree
Any automatic or manual transmission needs a fluid change! It is completely normal to change it around 40-80k Miles, depending of how you drive and type of transmission. (also DONT forget to change the CVT filter)
You never changed transmission fluid in other cars???.
Living in the rust belt is hell on vehicles.
a weak battery also strains an alternator, so replacing your battery before its bad helps
Look into Mazda, or Mitsubishi without the CVT transmission
Nissan extended the warranty for transmission replacement warranty to 85k miles. There should be no reason she should pay out of pocket.
Some common problems I see with the rogues , especially first gen, are the sub frame bushings and a/c compressors. I believe the compressors go bad prematurely because of the cvt.
Oh, and I had an 09 rogue that I did a drain and fill on the trans every oil change and added an extra cooler.
Did you change the filters in the transmission with the fluid change, it makes a difference.
Bushings are the common problem of nissan same as my 07 sentra
@scrambler69-xk3kv just every third drain and fill. Sold the rogue about 3 years ago, still going but the new owner doesn't do the kind of maintenance I've done.
May I ask you, I’m about to pull the trigger on a used rogue 1st gen a 2013 to use as a daily. After reading so much about Nissans and how unreliable they are I am starting to look for alternative brands. But for the 1st gen fugues, you recommend changing the trans fluid at every oil change?
It’s crazy. My first car was a b15 03 sentra which was a bullet. I own a cx9, and Rx 350f sport and thank goodness I don’t see any issues to date and I pamper them
I have a 2015 Rogue S
At 120,000 I have replaced motor mounts (4)
Shocks and Struts
CVT fluid change ( drain and fill) every 45000 miles and filter at 120,000 miles , with a good scanner you can find out how good is your CVT fluid (0/4000 new , at 45000 miles was 2600/4000 value )
Valve cover stars leaking very minimal at 100,000 miles so at 120000 I will get it replace and change spark plugs, boot coils.
Y drive my Rogue for all most 10 years and I didn`t have a problem, Very nice car.
Thanks for your input. I can only speak from my experience as a mechanic. It’s nice to see what you owners have to say.
One of a million
My T32 cruise control has stopped and would want to know what could be the issue and how it can be fixed.
It all comes down to maintenance with any car. Most people don’t change fluids beyond an oil change or when something goes wrong. Everything you need is in the service manual. Just follow the recommendations and your car will last a lot longer than a 100k miles.
The mechanics got jobs for life. People dont change their oil much less the other changes!
These are machines, they will need something eventually. I have two rogues , im always looking at used car prices, but hardly ever see Nissan rogue for sale as much as other makes🧐
I am a rogue owner and I had every one of those mechanical issues you describen.
Literally going thru the same problem now 😢😢😢😢😢lol the same problems

I purchased a 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport as a daily driver and one thing I noticed was that every time I drove it my ears would start ringing. I started doing research on the cause of the noise the Rouge was making and discovered it was due to the whine of the CVT. I was also upset to find that my Nissan was propelled by a friggin rubber band and had to be driven it like a grandmother. After 4 months I traded it in for a 2023 Mazda CX-30 Carbon and it is a fantastic automobile.
its a metal belt, not rubber band.
Thanks u saved me was just about to purchase one same color too they sure do look nice 👍

It handles really well in snow/icy conditions.

great advice on cvt transmissions Alex, they will not last long if you drive like a teenager, if you are unlucky and have one change the filters every 20,000 ( yes I said filters, there is one in the pan and a 2nd behind the cooler) and drive it like Alex's grandma and you might have a chance, leading cause of failure on these is the high pressure pump overheating and they are not repairable
There’s one filter the other one is a screen made of strong aluminum

I bought 2018 Rogue about a year ago at 75000 miles. It is at 91K right now and the only issue I am having with this is the climate control. Hot & Cold is good on passenger side but all other vents blowing ambient air and have not found any confident tech offering long term solution for this ...... will apreciate any good suggestion
What is the typical cost to replace engine sealer cover for 2018 rogue? What causes skipping when slowing down?
Damn I just got this, wish I saw this earlier.
@@teetee614 how has it turned out so far?
Thanks for those video! Any idea about what would cause a P2004 code? Could it be the throttle position sensor?
Thanks for the information, im thinking ill stick towards toyotas
I have owned my 2017 Nissan rouge for 5 years now got it with 53k miles on it and it now has 194k miles on it. I have never had problems yet with the transmission
Awesome! I’m glad. You don’t want those problems! Do you change your fluid often?
@@AlexTheCarDoctor I have only changed my Oil often. I have changed my coolant a couple of times but that is about it.
Could you share What causes the oil to leak from gasket cover. Your reply will be insightful 😉
So true with transmission! I had mine's replaced after 70,000 miles.
The Rogue is assembled in the USA, Korea, and Japan. From which country’s model do you see repairs most frequently?
Hi! I am back, I've been wondering should I avoid the Honda Accord 2018 with the 1.5t engine? Pls let me know! I'd appreciate it haha, I am just really indecisive, wanting to make the best choice for me and my friend that're buying the car together!
We have a 16 Rogue with 91k miles. Owned for 5 years and zero problems
It doesn’t go by the length of time but the mileage. You’re still at 91k so that’s good. I hope the vehicle continues to serve you well!
Thank you! Great advice. Rev
Nothing to worry about if you do the regular maintenance including the CVT flush/refill every 35-50K miles
Have a look at the Rogue hybrids also 2016-2017.. they are a piece of work also. Early transmission failures and brake motor failures, suspension issues, sunroof leaks... Nissan has never acknowledged these problems!
Lots of people still think you don't have to change any trans fluid I drain and fill mine every 30 thousand
Do not forget the two transmission filters as well.
Nissan to me is still probably #5 of my top 5 most reliable brands
Nissan has always had strong engines. They didn’t go downhill until they brought in the CVT transmissions. Tell me your top 5!
@@AlexTheCarDoctorI bet he has Toyota and Honda up there. And maybe Mazda?
I have a 2017 rouge I have 1 front right tire goes back and forth
What's could be wrong
We have had nothing but problems with our 2018 model, it’s been in for faulty air valves the electric boot stopped working the breaks needed doing and it’s back in now with a broken flywheel
Also ours only has 50,000 miles on it
