- This supercharged V6 Jaguar XE, had already been tuned elsewhere to accompany a large lower supercharger pulley, and some other extra hardware. Including an electronic bypass valve 'delete'. I was intrigued the moment I saw it. it was supposedly a 450bhp tune.
The vehicle owner was not particularly happy with the power delivery, and it was going into Swallows Racing, to have some custom stainless exhaust bits done, so the owner mentioned the power delivery to Tom from Swallows.
Tom drove it, and immediately phoned me to see if I could take a look, and try and sort it. historically, we've not done much more than tuning a 10% upper pulley on these vehicles. We've been meaning to develop a calibration for running more boost, but as is the way, other work seems to take priority.
Tom popped the car down to me, and we spent a few days playing around.
Upon reading the calibration from the vehicle, it became glaringly obvious the 'tune' was not of the highest quality. I've not seen that many DTC's deleted in a few years. It made me chuckle. 🤣
The power graph and datalog proved there were some serious issues with it. It appears there was a vacuum bypass valve bolted on there in place of the OEM one just to try and get over the pitfalls of the tune. I guess the customer had to buy this on top of the tune.
Side Note:
I'm quite obviously not a pro TH-camr, I essentially point my phone at things while I'm working, so apologies for the lack of professionalism with regards the quality of my filming work. I just treat the camera as a work mate! 🤣🤦

Hi, I am interested the pros and cons of a tune alone vs a tune in conjunction with changing the supercharger pulley. I have the 340PS XE S and am thinking about what to do. (In New Zealand so cant come to you)

I was wondering did the previous tuner fit a vacuum bypass valve because the new crank pulley increased boost and the electronic bypass was trying to correct the boost pressure back to normal and they didn't know how to change the parameters?

@@TuningShed only reason I thought was because of some guys State side fitting electronic SMOOTHBOOST bypass valves to older supercharged jags and Supercharger upgrades on Hemis etc with the vacuum bypass, on a different note, absolutely loving your content 👍
