    V6 motors are underrated IMHO. I used to have a gen 3 Camaro v6 and it really took some abuse. My brother now owns it, it has 220k miles on it and still runs great.

    This brings back memories! I had a 97 Firebird with the 3.8 that I struggled to pay for coming out of high school with an entry level job. Eventually I bought a powerdyne supercharger kit for it and installed it in my father in laws garage. It made decent power but these were back in the days before tuning was at a level that it is today, so at WOT the car was having a hard time shifting (4 spd auto). I sold the kit and threw on an 85 shot of nitrous which had me hanging right with the Trans Ams of the day. I loved that car! Great job doing that custom fab work to make the grand prix supercharger fit! Very cool build!

I'm one of those guys that takes a swap head on when everyone is saying 'just buy the vehicle with the bigger engine.' I have an L67 Buick Regal. Intercooled, Comp Cams complete set up (thank you Chris Ryan), counter-rotating shaft removed for the double-roller timing change (oiling holes plugged, very precise dynamic balance), M90 ported & polished, modular pulley set up, poly ""Doughnut," minor head work, JPL fuel rails w/ rising rate fuel pressure regulator, Triple Edge transaxle build w/LSD (did not put the lower gearing from an NA transaxle in mine), headers w/Magnaflow exhaust.
    Brakes are big Caddy, suspension is half 9c1, KYB, Voegtlin progressive rate springs, and Pontiac GTP LCA. Rims are 18" running Yokohama tires.
    Is it "Stupid fast?" No. Is it the "Ultimate handling machine?" No. But it is a lot quicker than you'd think. Handles really well, ride is still good. Durable? It's been together over 7 years in this configuration, no issues. Will cruise all-day at high speed very comfortably. Added bonus? Mileage didn't suffer. Cruise at a constant 75mph and it'll pull 25+ mpg.
    These Buick 3.8L are great. I made mine to be a durable, all-around driver. It does that well. For more performance we have a GT350

      Maybe a little. He said It's a low end torque car. Might help how it does cruising in the top gear, and how it moves out in 3rd but if this car shines in the lower to mid rpms more and not so much up top, it may just feel faster but not actually be faster in 1st and 2nd. Must remember when it comes to boost, the less shifting and longer gearing, usually the better for boost, especially as low to mid rpm kind of car. That's my take on it

      @@MrDerekRobinson he mentioned the power band “tapering off” at the top too though. If he’s feeling that he still has pull left until he gets up in the rev range a higher ratio could help with that. Depends on where it falls off. If it’s pulling well and tapers considerably before he has to shift that’s one thing, but if it pulls well and falls on its face at like 6200 that’s another though… hard to tell from the video.

    I don't know if I would day you CANT not have wind noise. There are definitely ways to make it much quieter. You could always pull the carpet and trim panels and install boom mats or some kind of sound deadening throughout the whole car, get some beefy seals all around. You mentioned you had some sound deadener but for best effect you have to get some custom fit deadened inserts in you wheel and fender wells to keep air from getting between the fender and doors. Not sure what kind of deadened you have either but it performance can vary massively between brands and types. You can even get crazy and line the firewall if you are feeling groggy and feel like pulling the dash out. I've been in a ws6 with straight headers and the guy did all of the things I mentioned plus had tired that were supposedly designed to reduce noise a lot. It was actually a lot quieter than my stock 3.8L without the cat. Like significantly quieter than mine. It was an experience

I was drive when I hit a bump at 35 and my mileage jumped to 188,888 I haven’t look in the dash yet but the car it in great condition so I think they got the car from a older person and they rolled it back is that something I should be concerned about? When I had my 96 Camaro I wanted to L67 swap my 3800 Camaro. I liked the idea of a Supercharged V6 camaro far more than the run of the mill LS or LT car. But then I drove a C4 ZR1 and well that changed for me. But if I get another 4th gen I'm def going this route. Many times before I was on the fence of trading towards a Z28 or Trans Am. the cost I felt wasn't worth it.

      Think it was punched out to like 4.1 or 4.2 L. Cam, headers, tune, etc, etc. high 12s low 13’s is exactly on par with a 6spd fbody with a factory LS1.

    I have a 2002 camaro v6 that only has 50k on it. I have a lm7 5.3l that I was building for the car but after seeing this I’m starting to realize that this might be better. Yes building the v8 would be cool and sound great but it’s around 1-2k (with a cam and and supporting mods) just for the engine. In f body’s you need a ls k member which people want like 500 for and various other things and this is just an overall cheaper and pretty unique. I honestly am seriously thinking about just selling the v8 and buying a series 3 3.8l with the 5th gen m90 blower and just rebuild that motor.

    • @just_another_gearhead
      @just_another_gearhead 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Just do what makes you happy...but in all seriousness the LS powerplant is leaps and bounds better in every way. So much easier to make power just N/A. But if you're on a budget and you're a diy guy and just want to be different, then go for it man. I've always went against the grain as well...currently building a destroker, well technically it's just a big bore 4.8, I know it'll be gutless down low, but 4.8 crank, Manley 6.3" rods, -6cc domed pistons, ported 799 heads with ferrea oversized hollow stem light weight race valves, custom spec'd cam, 1.8 aluminum rockers, full on solid roller race lifters...plan was originally to twin turbo it, mate it to a close ratio t56 in a little Colorado or s10, and run some 4.10, maybe 4.56 gears target fuel cut redline 9,000rpm, target shift point 8,500 rpms. It gets sketchy at those rpms, the exponential amount of stress put on the stock crank for every 1000rpms really adds up at the top. Rotating assembly will be balance and lightened but still...lots can go wrong at those rpms, but just imagine the noise it would make with an 180° 8-into-1 turbo header. Of course it won't make the biggest horsepower but it would definitely be different and fun in the upper rpms and still 1000hp+, not a drag racer but would be an awesome road course setup imo. 315c.i. of pure fury 😆

      @@just_another_gearhead i was actually thinking about a destroked ls, I have a ls1 in my garage with a chewed up crank. The block is good and you can get LR4's for cheap, slap in the crank and rods with ls1 pistons and you have a 5.1 liter LS1.

    • @just_another_gearhead
      @just_another_gearhead 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@martinez1701a I have a set of ls1 1.305 compression height pistons, they're the ones that you use for 6.125 rods. If you use those pistons, with a 6.3" rod, like the rod for an RHS tall deck, and the stock 4.8 crank...you come out to 9.238, so just under 9.240 factory deck height. I have a set of Manley 6.3 rods too. I'd sell rods and pistons w/rings for $1500 right now, still in box, $1800 value, plus no wait time because they are custom ordered, took me 3 months to get them..before the pandemic. Also have a set of ferrea hollow stem race valves .050 larger...but thinking about keeping those, they cost like $1300 by themselves lol
