  • In today's episode, I take my 2017 Jaguar XF and add an open air intake to the engine! This 3.0l V6 Supercharged engine provides 340hp and 322ft/lbs of torque and opening up the intake is a game changer! Be sure to tune in to see and hear the results! I hope you enjoy! Ps the cone filters set the way they are will be losing you between 5-15 bhp depending on how hot your engine bay is.
    More noise and more supercharger wine only equals "sound faster" not go faster.
    Changing to cones means you have to change cold air feed system to cones to only get fresh colder air rather than a mix of a little cold air from the intake system you have now opened up and lots of warm air.
    You could have 10 the amount of airflow, but if that air is hot it will cause the engine to run poorly. If this makes sense.

    I did the same modification to my jag xf 3.0 the only difference to compensate for the cold intake was that I added 2 tubes extensions from the front radiator all the way under the filter adding on top 2 Heat Shield Cover Stainless Steel, this prevents the filter to suck hot air.

  • @apb38

    Its way louder at lower speeds. I'm glad it trims down when you're cruising, you don't wanna hear that squeal all damn day. Also, you might want to leave that horizontal piping alone between the 2 boxes because the inlet is not square in the middle so that indent in the pipe is probably there to make sure and equal amount of air comes from each filter.

    Unfortunately brother, your data is wrong, most cone filters attached to a normal system degrade your airflow and hp.
    In tests the standard manufacturers paper filter keeps your hp higher, if you want to improve the airflow in a manufacturer closed system use aftermarket k and n filters or similar other brand hi flow filters, I can pretty much guarantee on a Dyno system the OEM filter and aftermarket box filter out performs cones all day long, because the cone very rarely gets good flow to all the cone, in fact you will be sucking in mostly hot engine air and degrading your air and fueling. Hope this helps.

  • @canadiankrispybacon1450
    @canadiankrispybacon1450 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I would’ve added a 90degree elbow moving the filter lower into that hole, you’ll grab cooler air. Removing the box, allows more heat to surround that intake....any gains (10-15hp) you think you may of made, I would suggest maybe 5hp...maybe lost due to heat 🤔
    Now, if you increase the actual airflow, change out the MAF...along with a minor change to the filter placement...then maybe you can make that 15hp gain 🤔

      @@kevinortiz1729 I think the OEM airbox allows for colder air…I would try to find a way to keep the air box’s and change out to K&N or anything less restrictive. I would also look for a MAF/Throttle body that will help open up the airflow…I think that’s the cheapest way you can hope to get any gains….and of course it’s just my opinion, though it may “sound” better..the setup in the vid is just going to sucking in engine heat..as heat rises…probably why Jag had their air box’s so far down into the front well..where the cool air enters….

    • @Prototheria
      @Prototheria 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      FWIW, I have upper and lower pulleys, 200 cell cats, x-pipe, Paramount heat exchanger, Bosch 010 intercooler pump, and a custom tune to support all that on my '10 XKR. According to VAP, the place I bought most of that stuff from, I'm making around 650-675ish at the crank. That may even be on the low side because I can consistently gap a friend's automatic C7 Z06 on the highway. I have the videos to prove it but we're way behind the go-to-jail threshold of speed, so there's no way I'm posting them publicly; feel free to either call BS or believe me. Anyway, in speaking with VAP about my build, they said to stick with the paper filters. But out of curiosity, I tee'd in a vacuum gauge to the bypass valve vacuum line that attaches to the intake pipe upstream of the TB to measure how much of a restriction the paper filters were with those mods and then comparing them to some drop in K&Ns. The difference was nearly unmeasurable and what change I saw could be attributed to atmospheric changes and/or gauge error. There was roughly a needle width of difference, with the K&Ns being slightly less restrictive. So yup, VAP was spot on. Imagine that- a tuner shop that actually makes parts and dyno tests them contradicts all the keyboard engineers "findings." Weird. And hell... the XKR-S has the same airboxes as the XK, and the XF-RS has the same air boxes as my wife's 3.0L XJL (look up part numbers if you don't believe me), so at what point do you just accept that this isn't the 1970's where you can flip the air filter lid and gain power, and that Jag knew what they were doing when they designed the intake tract?
      Additionally, I have a cousin working in a shop in the midwest (I can't name them yet because they're still in the durability/beta testing phase of the package) that's making 730 WHP on their 5.0L test mule with the factory paper air filters. Jag designed these engines to handle 750 HP while retaining the factory warranty, and the shop thinks there's enough headroom to make 800 at the wheels without compromising longevity that much. There's a lot of really interesting stuff they're discovering with the limitations of these drivelines and what they've found works to address them, but I'm not sure what I can say beyond that some of the solutions involved off the shelf aftermarket parts made for other makes of vehicles.
      But back to the point of this whole video... seriously, brohammer... the intake on these things isn't the choke point. If you think it is, go look up what the factory exhaust manifolds look like on eBay. I'm blown away that we make the power we do with those fuckin' things.

      I recommend just switching to a k and n filter and using the same housing, the change of air is causing the sensor to tell the car to run differently to compensate for all the extra air flow, the 2 ways to fix it is either to revert to the original housing whit a big flow filter (or normal) or getting the car tuned to run on a cold air intake.

    Just purchased mine two and a half weeks ago. Only difference is I'm 5.0 naturally aspirated. But nevertheless I have the same airbox system and planning on doing this mod. A little concerned about the timing chain system in this engine

    • @ragnar2320
      @ragnar2320 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tre292 After doing some research it turns out the horsepower gain isn't that great. And on very hot days you actually lose a little bit of horsepower because this system allows more heat into the throttle body. So I decided to put high performance filters on my stock box. Feels a little more responsive

    It’s most certainly nice to hear foot pounds of torque instead of pound feet of torque. It gets really annoying when people say pound feet of torque.
