And it is still incredibly common, and used to be near universal! There's a practical reason for that though, the paint is called "Falu rödfärg", Falun Redpaint. My parents have been feeding birds and squirrels in this way for as long as I can remember. @@Itapirkanmaa2 thanks for the hint, i looked at some pictures and it really looks beautiful! i never knew about it before. definitely worth a long visit at least
When we lived on a remote farm in Scotland, the monthly log delivery was the best hour of the month - chopping and stacking a ton of firewood is wonderfully cheering. It leaves you tired in a good way and you are safe in the knowledge that all your heating, cooking and washing is sorted for the next month. And it's cheaper than buying it pre-chopped ;)
I'm on solid wood and each night it's so beautiful to watch the flames and feel the intense heat. Yes firewood is a bore but the rewards are spellbinding..
I stumbled onto your channel by accident a few weeks ago and so far I have thoroughly enjoyed ALL of them. While I’m not a TH-cam creator, I do realize how much work goes into shooting the footage, choosing the right music for each segment which is always the most perfect choice, editing, editing and editing some more so that you can finally upload your finished video and share it with all of us. So, thank you ! You have a fantastic voice for narrating your videos. Calming, soothing, relaxing tone and it’s a joy to listen to. Please keep doing what you’re doing and good luck with your future projects. Congratulations on the house and stay safe.
Hi, interesting and quite impressive choice you’ve made! Myself I’ve moved to Sweden some years ago and haven’t thought that I would stay that long… The beautiful nature took me right away especially sailing, so many islands places to explore. So here I am living my dream :) Always happy to see that someone else has found own piece of magic. Congratulations for the house is looking great! Best of luck guys!
3:30 This is what my dad and I did my entire life. Throwing wood into the basement through the small window. Cords and cords and cords of wood. It really makes you appreciate being warm all that labor that goes into staying warm. As they say, heating with wood warms you twice.
You'll get a lot more density if you restack the wood once it is in the basement. Please make sure to keep your ashes in a metal container during transport and take them outside when they're not inside the furnace. Our neighbor's house burned down because they poorly maintained their ashes once.
Congratulations on buying a house! As you say, houses in the north of Sweden are quite cheap, and the further away they are from the nearest "largish" town, the cheaper they are. And prices can drop unexpectedly fast with distance... What you have to do now is a video on handling the Swedish bureaucracy: not everybody like having to do with the Swedish government, and some people cope with it better than others. And once you have settled in properly, you also need to keep us up to date with how learning the Swedish language is: for us natives, it's a piece of cake but for foreigners it seems to be anywhere between not particularly hard and virtually impossible. It might not be so much nature photography, but it will likely be an entertaining set of videos.
@@FiiSuper Absolutely, should she ever want to sell the house again she will learn that there are no buyers fighting to get in line to make bids on the house. But that does assume that things in Sweden and Swedish society don't change too much: what would happen if 50%+ of the people start working from home?
You do not need to go far north to buy cheap houses. Just 2 hours by car from the three metropolitan areas (Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö) and you can get housing at very reasonable prices.
@@tyenguyen you can easily find houses like the one in this video for between 40.000 - 80.000 pounds. Even less if you don't mind the general standard being a bit old fashioned.

Congrats...and welcome to "the club" :0) My wife and I bought 5 acres of Sweden with a house much like yours 15 years ago...and haven't regreted it for a second
Everything about this was wonderful: the story, all the B-roll footage, the sound quality, the great editing and commentary and editing, and most of all that beautiful little house and surroundings, and of course the squirrels! Congratulations on your new home, and enjoy your first winter!
Absolutely beautiful. I’m from the mountains in Northern California where we have grey squirrels. I’ve always loved them. I film them, and often catch one eating a fresh pine cone. You have to watch out or it’ll hit you on the way down, when they’ve finished what they wanted from it. My parents now live in the Valley where the squirrels are a mix, and these ones are so fun to be around because they’ll come right up to you. I believe it’s my calming, loving energy I put out when around them so they know to trust me. They take peanuts and halved oranges from our tree right out of my hand. They then proceed to eat right in front of me. What a beautiful house, especially buying it somewhat blind. Cheers. 😊
Where I live, West Yorkshire England, we have lots of grey squirrels everywhere...Some are cheeky, they try get in through bedroom window if its open...they torment my two cats, it's funny, the squirrels run up and down the pebble dash walls, our cats go crazy
@@savewaterdrinkwine3802 So cute! The urban squirrels at my parents play games with their dogs. One the other day had their dog running circles around a tree, all while they were just a step ahead running zig zag around the lower half of the tree trunk. Once their dog went in I stayed outside, and just as I had thought this squirrelly squirrel ate seeds on the lawn near me. I do not see how people could hate these beautiful, clever, smart little animals.
Congratulations on getting the house, you now have the perfect base for wildlife photography in Sweden. Looking forward to more photos of your current Squirrel family and the new one at the house.
In the video, it seems that you have quite a bit of firewood on your property. Not sure how big your lot is, but If you're lucky, you have som birch groving on it that you can chop down and use for firewood. . Now, more importantly, you need to learn how to talk to the squirrels. My grandpa used to do that. He took some bread (usually "tunnbröd") that he could break into small pieces. You can also use spruce cone seeds. Anyway, you sit down and sit still for a while until you can see a squirrel approaching. Make some "tsk, tsk" (sort of, find a sound that works) sounds and (slowly and gently) drop a food offering as far away as you can reach. Repeat with shorter distance until you can feed them from your hand. . I've never managed this myself, but then I have no patience. Still, I've seen my grandfather do this a lot. . Also, if you're going touristing, I would recommend a trip up the E12 (Blå vägen = The Blue Road) from Umeå to Mo i Rana in Norway. If you don't have the paperwork to enter Norway (Swedish citizens can go anywhere in Scandinavia) just turn around when you reach Hemavan. It's considered one of the most beautiful roads in Sweden and rightly so.

Congratulations! That bedding was perfection! How exciting, to be in your own house and in your special place! I had forgotten how that felt until watched this video! I bought my first house when I was 21. It still had the old ice block delivery door and ice box in the back of the house. I loved it so. I can just imagine how you must feel out there with your squirrels and your very own place! Truly, congratulations!
This was really real but artistic and peaceful. Of note, sweet soul, this is the only vid I've ever seen with zero thumbs down. 💜 Best to you both and the squirrels!
Wow this reminds me when I first bought my house and did exactly what you’re doing, shoving a ton of wood into my basement window. The major difference is I did it alone, that seems to be our theme unfortunately. We did raise 5 kids in this house and still have the last 2 that I’m cherishing every minute of. That new house feeling seems to last almost forever, almost. I wish you the best.
I'm so happy for you. Love those windows too; perfect for watching the beautiful forest and animals all around you. Cheap houses in Sweden with snowy forests you say? Sign me up.
I recently also bought a house here in Sweden, but just as a weekend and holiday home. Mine is built 1937 with an extension around 1970. I have so far not seen any squirrels, but I had a few unwanted guests, which I got rid by now - two mice. I forced them out, but alive. They can be an annoyance. Now the house is almost ready and today a wood oven has been installed. I need to look out for squirrels next spring! Enjoy! ;-)
Congratulations on buying a house, it looks great. I love the details in the house such as the hand railing going up the stairs. Oh Dani, you bring back memories of buying our first house in the US. We too had a chute to get firewood into our basement for our fireplace. The wood went into the basement easier than it took to get it out! Good luck with your new home! We have had our first home for 41 years and hope you can too!
Yea we never keep firewood in the house in my area of USA. Always stacked in an outdoor woodshed. Do not want carpenter ants or termites if they get into the wood.

I also agree that the houses are insanely cheap up north, down in the bottom where I live you can't even get 1/4 of a one room apartment for the same price.

How very satisfying to settle into a wonderful new beginning...cozily creative in the warmth, a very fortunate destiny bestowed by this innate passionate bond with that gorgeous red squirrel!
Love the house, a little bit jealous tbh😂. Is the forest with Ghost etc.., far from your new abode? If I can make a suggestion...., when getting a log delivery, have one person unloading and one in the cellar, stacking. Start in the alcove and work up and out.
hey very important, get a sotare to come clean all the chimneys regurarly and inspect it, soot fire takes so many swedish houses when new house owners move in! Easy to overlook, and especially when you dont know when it was last cleaned
This is amazing, congratulations! The wood scene reminded me so much of the good old time going the forest, chopping down trees with my dad and my brother. I am sure you will have an awesome time in your new home!
Congratulations! One thing you really need is firewood, a lot of it through the winter! I am also a house owner of a old wooden house in Sweden mine is located in Dalecarlia and firewood is the best heat source and much nicer than relying on electric heat, which you will also need! Snow clearing gear is a must during the winter too, not just showels, a some kind of large snow blower as when you get snow, you do get a lot of it. All the best!

Yes firewood is a bore but the rewards are spellbinding..
two? she's said she bought a house. what..
@@collie8 it's her and her boyfriend, that makes 2
So here I am living my dream :)
Always happy to see that someone else has found own piece of magic. Congratulations for the house is looking great! Best of luck guys!
I came 37 years ago 😊.
It might not be so much nature photography, but it will likely be an entertaining set of videos.
and as cheaper they are as harder they are to sell again.
@@Jon-hg5lz like roughly how much?
@@tyenguyen you can easily find houses like the one in this video for between 40.000 - 80.000 pounds. Even less if you don't mind the general standard being a bit old fashioned.
I have red squirrels in my garden. I daily feed them hazelnuts. I ADORE them since i was 7. I am almost 70 now. They are so beautiful to watch. Regards from the Netherlands.
Congrats...and welcome to "the club" :0) My wife and I bought 5 acres of Sweden with a house much like yours 15 years ago...and haven't regreted it for a second
Your wildlife photography is stunning!
Everything about this was wonderful: the story, all the B-roll footage, the sound quality, the great editing and commentary and editing, and most of all that beautiful little house and surroundings, and of course the squirrels! Congratulations on your new home, and enjoy your first winter!
Exactly. And: the music and timing. 👌
From one English person to another, welcome to Sweden. I've been here 21 years myself. Good luck to the both of you :)
Amazing!! You live in such a beautiful country, can't wait to visit and film it 😍 We were just in Finland and we want to visit Sweden so badly. If you have some time you can check out our travel vlogs and let us know what you think, only if you want to 😝
Welcome to Sweden. I am also a Photographer from The Bahamas living in Sweden. Happy i found your TH-cam page
Enjoy! ;-)
how do i do this? Where to look for a house ?
What website can do search for a home there please
Wieviel hast Du dafür bezahlt wenn ich fragen darf
Congratulations on buying a house, it looks great. I love the details in the house such as the hand railing going up the stairs. You are a lovely person and I really enjoy the relationship you have with the squirrels. I have about 5 squirrels around my house that I keep fed. All the best to you and your boyfriend.
I’m so happy and thrilled that you decided to choose Sweden as your new home! The house and nature around it is so incredibly beautiful and watching this video has reminded myself yet again how fortunate we are to be able to live in this country :) Congratulations on the house!

Woaaahhh, välkommen hem Dani!! Soooo envious of your adorable house but at the same time so happy for you 😍😊🥰 Again... VÄLKOMMEN HEM! ❤️
Sweet Swede home.. cozy. I got up this morning seeing snow in my backyard as well. Such a coincidence
Oh Dani, you bring back memories of buying our first house in the US. We too had a chute to get firewood into our basement for our fireplace. Only problem was the wood we brought into the basement had carpenter ants in the wood. We had to remove the whole load of wood from the house. The wood went into the basement easier than it took to get it out! Good luck with your new home! We have had our first home for 41 years and hope you can too!
Buying our first hose....hmmm..??? Did you maybe mean house....???
Yea we never keep firewood in the house in my area of USA. Always stacked in an outdoor woodshed. Do not want carpenter ants or termites if they get into the wood.
i love watching these videos of people moving to sweden! thank youuuuu for sharing! lovely video! congrats on your move!
Welcome Dani! How cool that you decided to move to Sweden and found a homebase here! If you want to join the wildlife photography family there is a bunch of us around, and many organisations over the whole country. If you want to be your own, Sweden is the place to be and feel entitled to do so. I hope you will like it here and that you will feel at home. :)
That crate of firewood. You need about 4 of those for a whole winter supply.
Welcome to Sweden, this part of Sweden is very nice. I have friends in Skelleftehamn so its nice to have you in the aera. Good luck and keep up the good work you are doing.
Oh, it is so exciting to buy a old house. Yours is very beautiful, I love it and totally can feel the excitement of exploring it and being there first times....
Red squirrels are so happy Thanks 👍👋🙏

Such a calming and interesting video to watch and listen to. The accompanying music is delightful also. Looking forward to other videos from you on your exciting new life in Sweden.
Congratulations on your new homeowner status! It's a very pretty home, and seems nice and cozy. I laughed in sympathy at the moment of struggling to get the mattress up those winding stairs. So glad Ghost remains near to visit. And how pretty the squirrels high in the spruce looked among the green. Am very much looking forward to all of the beautiful films and photos of the local beauty to come.
concrates and welcome to Sweden! also i love that you chosed something that actually is sweden in the term of house, our amazing nature and animals. if u ask me thats the most beatiful in our country and if you havent enjoied sweden like you done you havent seen sweden. i hope you like it here!

What an amazing and inspiring journey! I moved from England to Sweden just over two years ago and live in Uppsala, I cannot wait to explore and see more of Swedens stunning northern countryside and its beautiful sights! :)
Congratulations Dani. Hope you will be happy living there, I'm sure you will. Absolute best wishes to you.
Congratulations on your beautiful new home! I would be so proud of that house!
Grattis! Time to learn swedish ;)
Seems like there isn't too much done on the house, so it will probably be quite easy if you want to renovate something. I also agree that the houses are insanely cheap up north, down in the bottom where I live you can't even get 1/4 of a one room apartment for the same price.
That's a gorgeous place, its as old as my grandmother, wow. I hope you two will have a long happy life there.
Congratulations Dani on purchasing your home. I'm also very pleased you have squirrels near buy besides those in the squirrel forest. I'm excited for you in all the new adventures to come in your life, and I'm looking forward to seeing some of those adventures. All the best Dani.
Love red squirrels, constantly culling grey ones. Love Sweden and the snowy winters.
Wow, what an absolutely amazing adventure. Visiting Ikea is a right of passage! I hope you both really enjoy your new home.
Fantastic photos. Just brilliant produced! The music and editing make this film very enjoyable to watch.
BTW, nice home you brought.
Congrats on your new house. Something tells me your little neighbors are going to be so happy. I see bird houses in your future. If houses over there are priced similar to expensive camera lenses, I'll be dreaming of buying one there too.
very nice. hope you enjoy northern summers with endless sunlight. it is something special as well
I wish you both all the happiness in your new home a magical part of the world .
That looks so romantic 😍😍 good luck to you both for 2022. 💙 From Liverpool 🇬🇧.
Dani! Warmest congratulations! Hope, you have enough squirrels in your forest)
The house looks great!!
Your videos are awesome. I love the squirrels too, and feed them everyday. Your house looks amazing.

We don't have red squirrels in Seattle, WA (just gray ones), although I've seen photos of them in UK magazine "The Simple Things," and other publications. How wonderful you bought a home in Sweden where you can observe Ghost and his brethren red squirrels in nature. They're so enchanting, whimsical, and lovely with their tufted ears, red and gray fur coat. Jenny
Ah yes, the grey squirrels, enemy of the red squirrel.
Sadly the grey squirrel is invasive in Europe and it also carries a particular disease that's lethal for red squirrels.
@@patrickd9551 yes it nearly killed off the British red squirrel population.
Luckily we managed to save them we have a few colonies that are in or were in secret places.
I moved to Bulgaria 3 years ago, the squirrels here are black. Same size and appearance as a red but a beautiful jet black colour.
Someone has said this already, but grey squirrels have killed off most of the red squirrel population in the UK. Fortunately, they can still be found in some places, most notably the Isle of Wight. My Grandad lives there, and I always look forward to trying to spot them when I visit. They really are beautiful!
I‘m so happy for you, Dani! What a beautiful place 💖. I wish you all the best for your brandnew life in Sweden 🐿😊🇸🇪
Oh my! Congratulations! What a lovely home!
I've always recommended my friends to go visit the more remote parts of Sweden. I come from Stockholm and most people here never get to see these parts. If you're going on vacation, you'll probably go to Spain instead of Norrland. Such a shame, this country is so beautiful. Glad to have you :)

You have to take risks these days, being conventional and conservative won’t even get you the basics in certain areas in the UK. It is to the point where you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Dani, just magic that you have a house, wow 1st major step. Underfloor insulation? Double glazed? Just one fireplace? Are you allowed access to your own trees or elsewhere.
