I got here from Michigan Rocks. Very interesting project. I haven't made paper in years... way too many years. I was never fussy about it, some of mine were chunky, but with the mica that would be great for the cover of an art journal!

Welcome to the channel, paper making is alot of fun and I totally agree about the book cover. It would also make a nice paper to paint watercolour on. Thanks for watching

I've been waiting for a year to make the rock paper specifically for the makers challenge.. I plan on making another version of the paper showing the different uses. As for the flute idea I will redesign it and hope it works. Thanks for letting me take part in the is awesome collaboration with some of my favorite channels.

Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: wow!!! Fantastic idea! I've collected mica from all over North America...problem was...I only enjoyed it's aesthetic beauty as it degraded in my yard. What to do with it ....to express the stones personality ....so myself and others could experience it's qualities in other ways. You did it son! I would love to have paper like that for use in my homemade journals, bookmarks and scrapbooking. Also for your consideration...You could embed different colors of fibers/flower petals/mica paper in resin and make special paper ( triplet like) cabochons. If you ever make any I get first dibs...and I'm partial to rose petals in mica paper...hint...hint!!! ☺️

This is so great. The papermaking is such an unexpected and cool application of the 'use of rocks' with the mica. It turns out so pretty. I'm sure the other project is going to be great in a future video as well! There's always the next Maker's! Thanks for sharing, Kurt, Cheers!

Thanks Karen, Kyle already gave me idea for next year you know? Lol 😂 Anyways have you ever painted using watercolour? I bet making this mica paper as the pad/canvas would turn out beautiful with those mica flakes..

I love the idea of that stone flute - and the mica paper is THE BOMB! Nice job, Kurt - I know how stressful it can be to have things not go as planned. :)

Thanks Katy, I'll have another go at the flute later.may change the design. Been waiting for this challenge to do the paper idea..lol. when things don't go as plan yes it can be very frustrating. Thanks for watching

I love both your ideas. I'm not surprised that the stone flute didn't work. It takes precision to make a flute but the paper was gorgeous! All that gorgeous mica in there was phenomenal! Just lovely! That was a cool idea and I'm seriously not surprised that you could pull it off last minute like that! You have so many creative ideas in your mind. Thank you for this year's entry. It was really cool! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Lisa, well I got the idea to make the flute cause I saw a video of someone that made a flute from a russet potato and thought.... I have a agate about the same shape as that potato 😂😂😂. Then came up with the mica paper on my own. First time I tried it was like a year ago so the other day I knew it would make a good plan B. Thanks for the kind comment. Thanks for watching..

We all make oops that didn't go as planned items...
I like the mica paper.. it's a bit thick and I'd use more paper pulp also when it completely dries use other paper in the center for pages and 2 outer as covers .. great little sketch book for someone..
