Hey mate, great video as always! I have ordered the MacBook Pro M1 as the main video editing machine (for now). I almost bought a 16" pro in October for double the price. I am glad i didn't. Do you think they will produce a more powerful Mac Mini next year, eventually with the M1x M2 chip? It would be great to have a more powerful Mini alongside with my Macbook Pro.

The Caldigit dock was definitely a big purchase for me, but it's so capable that I think it's worth the price... just. I had the apple 3-port dongle from Apple and my monitor would cut out every once in a while, but it hasn't happened with this one. Only problem is I can't get the optical audio to work, but likely it's my 22 year old receiver that's the problem. Best of all, I can unhook the 1 cable and plug it into mc Mac Mini when I decide to get one. Sweet!
    Good video!

  • @Lighthousefamily32
    @Lighthousefamily32 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Sick video! Question: Do you connect your speakers directly to the monitor or to the Mac mini? Also, is there a quality audio difference if connected via bluetooth, airplay, aux 3.5mm, or usb?

  • @Zymurgest

You should try the owc 2tb envoy pro fx external ssd. It's about 95~98% the speed of the internal drive. You can also record directly to it, then import the footage directly into FCPX. Little spendy perhaps, but its HUGE performance edge makes it worthwhile in saving you a LOT of time!

I ordered the docking station that fits right under the Mac mini. It’ll be a while before it arrives from China, but I managed to buy one the same color as the M1 Mac mini. It’ll be especially great since my upcoming Mac mini will only have 256 GB of storage. Having both a dock and external storage in one device, all in a clean looking setup makes this accessory one of the best for a Mac mini. As for other accessories, I’ll use the solar powered Logitech K760 and the MX Anywhere 2.

I picked up an M1 mac mini last week because video editing (premiere pro) was horrific on a brand new specked out Dell laptop that I was forced to return. This M1 is buttery smooth (even though premiere pro isn't optimized for m1) and I got an open box M1 $90 off! ✊🤘. I picked up a logitech mouse, affordable and we'll made keyboard (k780) , and an asus monitor and it's gold🤙 I also edit with the same lacie external.

Presonus gear is fine for what you're trying to accomplish. Like most speakers that are designed to be studio monitors, they aren't really made to be audiophile style speakers for listening to music. I have a pair of older Alesis monitors in my studio and a pair of Mackies at the house, but I've used the Presonus ones once or twice and especially for video they sound fine.

I've heard that the mac mini m1 has some problems with the bluetooth connection and for this reason I was thinking of getting the magic keyboard and the magic mouse that are from apple..Do you think that the mx keys and the mx master 3 are a better choice? In the long run they are just as reliable like the apple keyboard and the magic mouse? Do they have connectivity issues or are they compatible like the apple?

When you do editing and add apple to the equation don’t think you can do a budget version.
      Apple Mac mini m1 256gb 16gb ram £800 (10% student discount)
Samsung monitor with 1mil contrast or similar - £150
Keyboard and mouse - £40 off Amazon (mechanical chunky keyboard) but you might want to supplement with the Apple trackpad which can be bought for around £100
XL gaming mat (dimensions vary) - £10 off eBay
External hard drive - western brand - can pick a 2tb for £50-70...you can spend £600-800 to upgrade via Apple for 1/2tb but it’s not worth it personally...especially if you take periodic backups via time machine
Can just about get above £1K
      Dongle - £10-15

My original MX Master seems to be working ok for a while on my MacBook Air M1, but suddenly some of the buttons will not trigger the assigned functions on the Logi Options software. This seems to happen when I am running a RAM intensive application like Lightroom. When I use Lightroom I don't run any other intensive apps as I only have 8GB. It works perfectly on my 2014 MacBook Pro, so it's not the mouse. I've uninstalled the software and installed it again several times, tried with bluetooth and the unifying receiver and the behavior is the same. It seems that Logitech has not updated their software to be compatible with Apple Silicone.
