What's up everyone?! I hope you liked this list of M1 Mac Mini accessories. What was your favorite item? Do you have anything else that you think I should include in a part 2? Finally, which SSD and RAM configuration is right for you?

Thanks for accessories recommendations. How are the speakers on the recommended monitor? I assume they are functional with the HDMI interface??
Any less expensive 4K monitors that you have tried that are compatible?
      Thanks.

Depending on how you are using it, you don't need any of that stuff (except a keyboard and mouse and monitor).
I got mine to be a dedicated system for photography and Photoshop. The only thing I have besides those is a Wacom tablet and a hard drive to store my photos on (10 TB).
I use clicky, btw, a dasKeyboard I've had for years.

The only thing that I would add to this would be the usb-c hub that is like half the height of the Mac mini but has the same footprint. It allows you to add an SSD drive to the Mac mini and also gives you access to the sad card reader and extra ports without filling your desk space up too much. I got the one from elecife but hagibis, and satechi make them as well.
Clicky or non clicky really depends on the day for me lol

Thanks for the video Sagi. As usual thorough and on point. I have the magic keyboard and magic touchpad instead of a standard mouse. BTW I got a Logitech mx keys for my kid and I think it beats out the magic keyboard. Heavier, seems more solid and the battery lasts over several months if you don’t use the backlighting. Not to mention the feeling of the keys is also great. Also you can do multiple pairing and quick switching between computers and data transfer between multiple devices, including between Mac and windows computers with the Logitech software.

@@michaelstarmer3497 Dell P2720DC which has display port in/out and 4 USB ports.....it’s also usb-C or HDMI so very very versatile. Bought mine from Amazon as Dell were just hopeless at delivery! Also bought the Logitech pebble and its companion keyboard K380 which can hook up to 3 different devices at the touch of a button. My sound sticks work superbly well and are connected and sound awesome, I have AirPods but use Skullcandy Sesh bluetooth phones for music. Bought the cheapest little 1080p webcam which works great and.....just because I’m a photographer and graphic artist I use a Wacom tablet too. With 16 external drives (a lot of images and video work!) I have attached 3 powered usb hubs - 2 x 10 port hubs to the USB ports on back of MacMini and a 4port plus 1 x iPad or iPhone charge socket. It’s taken a while to get everything working as I like/want but my desk is clean and I have a tidy office again, oh I also have a great Brother A3 WiFi printer too.
Didn’t mean to write so much but having just come across Ross’s rundown I was just amazed. Hope you find the monitor for your Mac

You presented an outstanding overview of lots of accessories for the new M-1 mac mini. Like yourself, I prefer a mechanical keyboard (grew up loving both type writers and that "click" sound) and use both the white Apple wired full size keyboard (with number pad) or the white Apple 1st generation wireless blue tooth full sized keyboard (with number pad) both from back during the 2000's. However, when it comes to a pointing device here, I depart from Apple products and prefer to use a white wireless USB toggle mouse from Targus. Being "Old School" what, I enjoy about this mouse is that it runs for about 2-years off of two AA batteries and when they start to run low on power it starts to flash a "red light" which, lets the user know that soon the batteries will need to be replaced.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you for watching and for sharing your journey and insight. 2 years with no charging is really nice - not gonna lie. I charge this mouse every few 3/4 weeks I think - I just plug it in overnight and it's good to go. I always have a USB Hub on my desk regardless, so if I run out of battery, I can use it in wired mode (because I'm HORRIBLE at checking out the battery level lights, lol).

As for keyboard, I use a Corsair K95 RGB Platinum coupled with a Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB mouse. I like having the macro keys on both as I use them frequently in both entertainment and productivity software. Sadly, my old Bella keyboard is no longer supported by Apple |:-( But oddly enough still works with FCPX even though it shows up as an unknown keyboard! Really like your presentation and your clear, distinct speaking style which is spot on for speed, and clarity. Seems like to use the Mac Mini M1, it pretty much needs a hub. My needs for a hub differ from yours, as I'd prefer to have on board M.2 and SSD capability to cut down on the wires, and also keep the power requirements to a minimum (we're going to be going fulltime RV'ing shortly) as I'll be needing an offgrid capability.

Don't buy the Mac Mini M1 until do research on it's issues with using a switcher for sharing a screen. I have a X1 Carbon and a 34 inch Samsung curve 100 Hz screen. The switcher helps me toggle between the Mac Mini and the work laptop X1 Carbon. However, after the latest 11.4 software update, the Mac Mini can't work with the switcher anymore. I tested the switcher with my son's MacBook and his Microsoft Surface with my Samsung screen. It worked fine. So its the Mac Mini with an issue not many people know of.Stay away from the Mac Mini until Apple admits the issue and the OS updates have taken care of it. As of today 28 may 2021, its a problem.

You know something, before the Apple Mac, this is how Macs came: No keyboard, no monitor, no mouse. Back in the early 1990s, Mac struggled with market share because it was greedy. At the time 95% of computers out there were PCs. Of course, this was to do with MS making the DOS, then Windows, open architecture. Macs were not home computers, they were for professionals working in design, either publishing or actual graphic design. All the best graphic software was on Mac. However, the world was run on MS and Intel chips.
Back then everything was ridiculously expensive. I bought a PC, with a Intel 386 running at 20Hz. It had a 20Mb hard drive, a 3.5in floppy disk, a 5.25in floppy disk and a 14in monitor. That unbranded lot, cost me £1700 in 1991. A similar Mac would have been double the price.
I eventually moved over to Mac in 2011, because my friend and boss bought me a MacBook Pro as a work laptop. I’m afraid, coming from windows/dos to Mac OS X, was an eye opener. I still prefer the MacOS. Everything is obvious and simple, unlike Windows which is still sh1te compared to Mac. I have to use an intel laptop for work. It takes me twice the time to do anything on windows. It interrupts with constant notifications for re-starts, updates, etc.
I bought an M1 Mac Mini as a family computer. It’s attached to an sRGB calibrated 34in curved Philips monitor, apple keyboard and trackpad. I got a much better system than the iMac, for the same price. Mac has gone full circle with the Mac mini. I like this concept now, because you’re not tied in, like you used to be. Thanks for the great video.

Audioengine products are great, however I have experienced chronic drop offs with my iPhone and iPad Pro with the A5+ and B1 receiver. My MacBook Pro and Mac mini are solid however. I am peeved that Apple has made ATPX codec so difficult to enable on the MacBook Pro. I mean, why even bother having the codec if its buried and disabled by default and requires the use of the command line prompt to enable? Great video except you missed THE most important accessory of all... the monitor! I know that would have been too large a subject for this video, but you could have dropped a few recommendations like the BenQ PD3220U.

I heard about bluetooth issues so I opted with a wired keyboard. I did have an issue loosing my trackpad connectivity, took hours before it reconnected mysteriously, so far it seems to be ok again, so it could be the wonky BT issue.

You can keep the keyboard plugged in on USB from the mini, so I am not sure the BT kicks in while plugged in. I prefer the Magic without the number pad so if there is an issue, I will just keep it plugged in. Have not found it yet but if there is, I will go there

I was very surprised you did not talk about monitors. I read some of the comments and will probably buy the best 4K monitor I can afford if I go the Mac Mini route.

Hi Sagi ... great video. I’m replacing my current Mac mini. And have been debating about M1 versus Intel (2018). On my current Mac Mini, I’m using all the ports, including FireWire (to a Lacie drive array). Wondering your thoughts about the M1 versus Intel and how to get FireWire into the new Mac Mini’s. Also, the M1 has a 4 week wait time for product while the Intel I can get in 3 days. Thanks in advance.

From what i've been reading the M1's the only game in town ... Anybody?

Hi Ross, I like the video and content you shared, they are perfect accessories for my M1 mac.
I have a quick question regarding the "Curl effect in your Video" you used. May I know which Editing software you used for this effect?

Are you saying the Mac mini will connect to a 2009 Cinema Display (Mini DisplayPort) using only a USB C to Mini DisplayPort adapter, and no additional power brick?

Another excellent video Sagi! I do like your motto as it dovetails nicely into what was drilled into my head by my engineering professors, namely if you don't have enough time to do it right the first time, how are you going to find the time to do it right the second time? What I'm really curious about is whether or not you have any experience with the BlackMagic design pocket cinema camera 4K? When I saw your external drive reviews, the OWC caught my attention, especially with its near internal drive speed. I think it would be a natural fit to use the OWC drive to directly save RAW image files to, and then just import them directly into FCPX. Or am I being a wanker here? It just seems like a natural choice, especially for doing 4K workflow. So what do you think?

I prefer thocky because it sounds more like a keyboard and less like a mouse. I use a Corsair K55 membrane keyboard and it has a nice thock to it.
