Hi, Thank you for the options you went over. I have been using the version of the Qwiizlab hub that does not have the DP/HDMI ports on the back for about 1 month on my Mac Mini and it worked fine on my PC with no issues(was waiting for the mac mini). I installed an ADATA SU760 and a SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB and get about 370w/360r MBs and 864w/886r MBs respectfully(black magic). I would recommend plugging the extra power connection into a 30W/3A usb power adapter to free up one of your USB C/A connections on the back of your Mac Mini or PC. As Chumba stated about speeds, if you want faster external storage Thunderbolt 3/4 hub/enclosures are best. I also put rubber bumpers/pad on the bottom for ventilation. So far so good.
Beware of this type of multi-function base/hub for Mac Mini ... even tho does support NVME slot for additional storage, it is constrained by fact its SATA III and can only do max 6Gb/sec (combo controller for both the 2.5in SSD and M2.NVME slots). Slower than even the USB-C Gen2 capability. So, do **NOT** expect high speeds from the NVME drive. As an alternative, OWC has a Thunderbolt NVME enclosure (Envoy Express) that sells around $80, if you need best speed for external drives to Mac Mini. Bonus Tip/Hack: Place picture rubber bumpers or pads under the multi-function base/hub ... will provide some elevation and air flow.

What about the Endurance Life Span of the Soldered on SSD on the Apple Silicon Macs. Is this a Deal Breaker ?………
