Oh boy...talk about technical difficulties. Not only was the internet connection bad but my backup soundtrack was also empty. I guess we all have days like this and the only thing we can do about it is move forward. So my apologies.
How do l get one of your JUST GET IT DONE mugs? Just the addition l would love to have for my reflecting space. Thank you for all you share. As we end this year to start a new one l wish for you and your family a safe holiday time loaded with love all around you.
Yes, we do! I am so grateful for your upbeat informative quilting channel. Still haven't joined a guild but have it on my to do list. I would love to meet more quilters near Denver Colorado. Thanks for this video.
Quick notes: 1. Purchase a Needle Recycler from Singer. You are able to store it in the tube. There is a mailing address to send to when it is full. 2. It sounds like the square on square is actually called snowballing a corner. Thank you for your show - enjoy the community.
I enjoyed this Q & A - but I am asking you to rethink your thoughts on labeling your quilts - especially those for family. My mother has been an accomplished quilter for most of her life. This in addition to raising 6 children and running a business with my father until she was 75. She is now 95 1/2, a bit frail, but still quilting. I have quilts that span decades that she has given me and it is a treasure to read the labels showing she made them for ME and the date. They are in her handwriting which is also a treasure. A number of years ago she designed and made a quilt which is the story of her life. As she made each block she wrote the story behind it. It turned into a 192 page handwritten book! She has just recently made copies and I can't wait to receive my copy.
Nancy Cox oh my goodness every since I read, Invention of Wings, I have wanted to make a life quilt! Any possibility of posting this story quilt your mom made on JGIT FB page 🥴
You always impress me with your wisdom, knowledge, and compassion. The way you answered the person who had lost her father was so touching. I am going through treatments for ovarian cancer and I have to keep reminding myself that I should not compare my productivity now with what I did "before". Your analogy was perfect. Thank you for the reminder.
My hubby was at the hospital for blood work. When the tech dropped the used needle in the in her little bin my husband commented "gee my wife sure could use one of them for her sewing room. Where can I get one?" She promptly left and came back with one for me. It is large enough it will probably last to the end of my days. He was actually being sarcastic but it solved my problem. Have a Great Christmas.
Carol Lindsay nice! They’re called “sharps containers”. I think you can also buy them at med supply places for ppl who need to dispose of insulin supplies. I’m a veterinarian but I just use old pill vials. I wrap blades in bubble wrap and then bag up separateLy
Technology is great until it isn’t! No worries....I came back to watch this! I’ve spent the last 3-4 days sorting through and organizing my fabrics (after one divorce and two moves). It has been fun to re-discover my old friends! I have a PILE of scraps that I am using to make our Quilt Guild’s community outreach quilt. It has been a ton of fun!
Thank you so much for addressing the mental health issue about sewing after a loss. After my husband had unexpected major heart surgery and my 13 year old dog suddenly passed away (he was my sewing buddy), I have found it difficult to get back to sewing. Finally after about six months, I feel like I can at least get back to tidying up my sewing area and I am hoping to get some Christmas gifts done this year.
Oh Joyce. The loss of your buddy after the surgery must have been so hard. I also lost my dog this year. I did a lot of hand sewing before I could face my sewing room. Take care
Thanks for all the reminders, like cleaning your machine. I listened to this video and heard that, and realized I hadn't cleaned it in several months, so while I was still watching the video, I had my brush out and started cleaning. LOL
Karen, although I’ve been a quilt instructor for years, I have to tell you that you are a refreshing real person with a realistic answer to these mundane and repetitive questions! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Looking forward to your next UTube session!
I am glad to hear you gift your quilts. I do the same, all have been family and friends. They are beginning to tell me they are running out of room. I have just started to make some for "quilts beyond borders". I do have a few that I just had to keep. You have the best videos! Thanks for that.
Ian, is such a gentleman. Don't know what he's like to work for or live with, but oh such a gentleman on film. The sad is getting easier with the excitement of the new ahead. Easy for me to say not doing any of the long, tiring, frustrating, hard work. Really guilt ridden sitting here watching you, possibly grunting in a helpful manner on occasion. Sending good thoughts and wishes always to you and yours. This was nice seeing your new space and plans taking flight.
Hi from Scotland, Karen! I just recently subscribed to your channel and really enjoyed your Q&A, thank you from a fairly new quilter. I am taking part in the Sugaridoo QAL, my first!
Thanks again for sharing your sewing knowledge. I recall a tip/reason to label your quilts, add the quilters name & made date of quilt, if quilt is handed down (generations), The Who & when made is there. At present I’m making quilts for my grandchildren (8), each will have a label, child’s name, date & signed ❤️Noni
I’m in Alaska so I keep missing you. So glad I can pick you up later in your channel. I have learned so much from you. Thank you for your time to help get this information out on you tube. Have a great day.
I guess I need to plan a trip to Toronto from Pennsylvania. I have been watching Sew Very Easy for a while now and think she is fabulous. Funny that you live near her. I just discovered your channel. I love your videos as well. I love seeing 2 experienced ladies sharing their passion for sewing with all of us. You are a marvelous teacher and perhaps I can come to your new classroom someday.
Your ideas are fantastic and you're such an inspiration. Also I love that you focus on making beautiful quilts, rather than "perfect" quilts. I just love your videos!
I have a rotary blade sharpner. It was about $14usd on amazon. I used the same blade for 5yrs using the sharpener. I did not quilt consistantly during this time, and I dont recomend this!! But I was just flat broke and this kept me going. When I finally got a new blade, my old one was actually smaller from being sharpened so many times.
I am sorry I missed watching this live. I will have to set an alarm for the next one. I like using a broccoli elastic on my free arm as a guide. It gives a nice edge and it endlessly adjustable, but does not move while I am sewing. I enjoy all your tips and techniques.
Love, love your tutorials! You are awesome! I am visual challenged but I will not quit! You are such fun to watch your video’s. Happy quilting keep it up! Yoka
What a wonderful Q and A . I love the compassion that you have. Also understanding on how life gets crazy and for people like my self stressing about time limits. You are a very amazing, caring woman. Keep up the good works.!!
Thank you Karen. Once again I enjoyed the Q and A video, although I didnt get to see it live. I always learn something, and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and ideas with us.
I agree with your liking Missouri Star, Sew Very Easy and Jordan’s Fabrics videos! We left the Toronto area in 2003 for Sechelt, BC! Happy downsizing and teaching space!
Love your sewing room videos. Makes me feel like I'm there with you. Just want to thank you and wish you a Merry Christmas and happy new year. Looking forward to seeing you again in 2020. 🐝❤
Thank you for dropping the window shade! I was 15 minutes into this video before I realized that I wasnot distracted by the traffic outside. :-) I enjoy your vids. Have a joyous holiday. Virginia in Ohio
Karen Brown, Thank you as always for your tips, tricks it’s like hanging out with smart and clever friend who wants the best for me ( I have a cousin who has always been like for me , but she doesn’t sew 🙃 , glad I found you, I bet we are cousins 🤓)
Thank you for the q and a. You always have such wonderful tid bits to share. I look forward to your next year videos. So happy to hear you will be teaching. Have a wonderful holiday!
I’ve just joined your channel and love how you speak, as well as all the useful information you give us. I’m recovering from a botched hip replacement procedure , 12 months ago, and still not mobile. You are motivating me to clean out my sewing room and get back into patchwork and quilting. Cleaning will be the big thing, as we’ve had lots of dust storms lately as well as ash from numerous bushfires. But I will definitely start with cleanup and you never know, may be able to sit long enough at the machine. Thanks. From Brisbane, Australia 😊🇦🇺
Thanks so much for sharing your tips and tricks. I always find your videos informative and can't wait to try out your new techniques. Most of all, I appreciate that your attitude is so inspiring and refreshing😊. Have a blessed holiday season and good luck with your business move.
Even with funky audio it's still great! I'm from Amarillo, Tx. For accurate seams, try to use the same machine for all the piecing. And different people have different results, so a community quilt could be harder to put together.
Thank you for sharing ❤️ Learned a few things.... Congratulations 🎉 on a new chapter....wish I lived closer.... Love the idea of delegating jobs for others at these special holidays.... Happy holidays to you and your family & friends....hugs
I lost my husband 8 months ago and struggle to sew. He loved the quilts and was involved in pattern choosing, buying fabric just everything. I just can't make myself sew especially on anything that I was doing with his input. Life is just hard. I have family that thinks I need to get back to it. My heart just cant. I've made myself do a few things but joy isn't there
Dear Sue my heart goes out to you and I can understand how you feel. Because my husband supports me just the same way your husband supports you. I would miss him so terribly . Take all the time you need to get through your mournfulness. I'm sure some day you will watch your stash and recognise the fabrics he chose and a smile will appear and you will feel a warmth in your heart. By than you will be able to sew again and probably you want to use all of "his fabrics" in a very special quilt. I embrace you and send good wishes to you.
You still need time. There is no finish line on grief unfortunately. But do know that it will get better. Perhaps a smaller non sewing project will help like knitting. And get outside by yourself or with a few friends. Take care
Sorry I missed the live. Good idea about a ruler library! It would be a good idea for our guild. I put my rotary blades in a pill container as well, the one I have now I have been using for probably 5+ years. I trimmed all my scraps down yesterday, such a great feeling to see that bucket empty.
Looking forward to your posting the link to taking photos of the finished quilt by the professional quilter. Nice video as always. Have blessed holiday and the best in 2020.
Just LOVE your tube sessions, very precise in describing how, what, where & when, on peicing and completing tops. Would you please show how to make afterquilts. Thank you
It’s nice to see your Nashville postcard in the background! I’m writing from Nashville. I watch your videos for the great tips you have. I am coming off a rope bowl obsession, ready to start the winter quilting so I’ll be tuning in regularly. Thank you very much.
I'm new to quilting, LOVE your TH-cam vids. I just found your Facebook page, I hope you announce when you are going to go live, I'll try to catch the next one!
I guess I'd better watch that starch. I'm in Louisiana and so far we've only had a week of cool weather. I would love to be up where you are. One day, I'd love to live where they actually have seasons! I think our 4 seasons are football, hunting, crawfish, and hot as heck weather. The last one seems to last all year through. Thank you so much for all the videos. I've learned so much. :)
The coldest winter I ever spent was the first year I was in New Iberia, LA. I had moved from Fort Smith, AR where we had snow up to my knees the year before. That damp cold just went through me.
@@susanmazzanti5643 I live just outside of Baton Rouge and yes when we get a real cold front, the humidity is killer. I have trouble breathing in the hot too. Sometimes I think they should have left this place to the alligators and mosquitoes! lol
@Karen Presely, I like a product called Best Press. I've been told that the newer starches are different from that from grandma's day. In the class I took we were told to use the one with the YELLOW cap.
I'm not so very far from you. I live off the Mississippi River in Arkansas not far from the Louisiana line. It is still very damp here and still freezes me when the cold fronts move through. It looks like I would have learned by now but I guess not.
As you put your scraps together and put them on the back, make a quick label and add it with the scraps, it gets quilted in and no extra step. I embroider my labels, so that’s an extra step, but if you sign a label with permanent marker, it’s pretty fast.
In response to the viewer who lost her dad, Karen's comments are correct, I lost my husband 18months ago in a freak accident and only recently have I been able to sew anything, and yes start small with xmas stocking panels :) I'm not back to myself yet. but I'm trying for the first time. I retreated to watching quilting (and other crafts) on You Tube, you just have go at the pace you can to look after yourself, and as Karen said, everyone's pace is different and if you need professional help to get you through, get what ever help you need to stay well, as loss is an awful wack to your system. Things will start coming back to you after time, that age old saying is correct, time makes things bearable. Karen I'm sorry for your friend, losing a child must be the hardest of all, and yes just being there for her is more than you can know. The funeral time there are people everywhere, then everyone gets back to their own lives as they should, but you are left standing there with a broken one, and it feels very lonely suddenly. You would be surprised how many people assume they should treat you differently so don't know what to say, so say nothing to you at all, when all you want is to just be distracted from your own woes by hearing how others are doing. It sorts out who are your true friends that's for sure. On a more upbeat note, best wishes for your new business venture, sounds like 2020 will be a good year for you!
renee anne : I watch those two channels, too! Kate on "Last Homely House ..." is just fun to listen to and has such varied interests, but is soooo practical. One might say she is a soul from the good old days. And Pat, well ... I just love her little chuckle as well as her teaching skills. I don't participate in her project subscriptions, I just like to listen to her chat.
Just watched your latest Q&A. Thank you so much for all the information you share so freely with us. Your tutorials have taught me a great deal in my first year of quilting, including emotional support. Emotional distress is what introduced me to this wonderful world. I tell myself quite often as l am struggling with life or a project “JUST GET IT DONE” then l found you. Automatically addicted! How do l go about getting one of your Just Get It Done mugs. Perfect addition for my get away space for reflection or quilting? Again, thank you for being you and sharing you with us! mel
What can I do to watch your live feed? I know it's the first Saturday of the month, but what time, and how can I log in? Your tutorials are some of the best, and your sense of humor is contagious! Merry Christmas, and all the best in the New Year.
Your comments on death were very pertinent to me as I lost my bachelor baby brother right before Thanksgiving. I've struggled to do anything. But cleaning up my studio has been the biggest issue for me. I know I would feel better if I was sewing but I can't seem to clear the clutter so I can. Of course the fact that in the last 6 months I've haven't put things away between the wedding, vacations, craft classes and cleaning out my brother's apartment is the biggest reason it's that bad. So the 30 minute timer thing is going to be put to the test for me.
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts Tried the 30 minute tip today. I did 30 minutes on the house. Then 30 minutes cleaning the studio, then 30 minutes sewing. Did this 4 times today and feel much better about everything. Thanks for all of your tips
I used lame' once in a project. And I found using a gossamer thin iron on stabilizer was the only way I could handle it effectively. Watch the low heat on that.
Oh boy...talk about technical difficulties. Not only was the internet connection bad but my backup soundtrack was also empty. I guess we all have days like this and the only thing we can do about it is move forward. So my apologies.
Your videos are so much more educational and entertaining then what I am watching on TV this morning.
How do l get one of your JUST GET IT DONE mugs? Just the addition l would love to have for my reflecting space. Thank you for all you share. As we end this year to start a new one l wish for you and your family a safe holiday time loaded with love all around you.
How do I watch live so I can write in my question?
Yes, we do! I am so grateful for your upbeat informative quilting channel. Still haven't joined a guild but have it on my to do list. I would love to meet more quilters near Denver Colorado. Thanks for this video.
Just Get it Done Quilts I learn so much from you. Thank you!
After binge-watching your videos for several hours, I actually feel as if I've accomplished something great without even getting out of my chair.
😎
Leah Day is awesome! She's why I started doing any quilting.
Thanks for the shout out to Jordan Fabrics. They are in my town and lovely people!
Quick notes: 1. Purchase a Needle Recycler from Singer. You are able to store it in the tube. There is a mailing address to send to when it is full. 2. It sounds like the square on square is actually called snowballing a corner. Thank you for your show - enjoy the community.
Use the eraser ends of two pencils to safely separate new rotary cutter blades. Found this tip in a Facebook group and it has worked for me.
smart 👍
Great idea!!
Nancy Cox I want to see this quilt.
Nancy..what an incredible quilt. I'd also love to see photos. Any chance you are within driving distance from Toronto?
Nancy Cox oh my goodness every since I read, Invention of Wings, I have wanted to make a life quilt! Any possibility of posting this story quilt your mom made on JGIT FB page 🥴
Cathi NuFerrous I’ll try
Just Get it Done Quilts I wish I was. I have been to Toronto about 20 years ago. I am in California.
Take care. Thinking of you
I sincerely hope you have positive news and are healthy.
I love scraps...enjoy
Hi from Brisbane, Australia. So glad I was able to watch this on TH-cam. Karen, you are a gem, and please keep those wonderful tutorials coming.🌷
Take care
Thank you Karen. It has been tough but I feel like I am finally coming out of it. So sorry about you losing your beloved friend.
Thanks for all the reminders, like cleaning your machine. I listened to this video and heard that, and realized I hadn't cleaned it in several months, so while I was still watching the video, I had my brush out and started cleaning. LOL
I have an old make-up brush that sits beside my sewing machine. I hate to admit how old it is but it still does the job
To dispose of my needles I use an old spice bottle. The hole is already there
Thats a good idea and smells nice too.
Another GREAT TIP!
I use empty prescription bottles after I have removed my labels.
Karen, although I’ve been a quilt instructor for years, I have to tell you that you are a refreshing real person with a realistic answer to these mundane and repetitive questions! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Looking forward to your next UTube session!

LOL...it must be getting late...I thought you meant your left arm as in the one that was free while sewing...Great idea 👍
Love, love your tutorials! You are awesome! I am visual challenged but I will not quit! You are such fun to watch your video’s. Happy quilting keep it up!

I love your Q & A’s. Great job. I wait awhile after I finish a quilt top. It’ll talk to you ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Karen
Sorry I missed you live, I was at Disney World FL with Grandkids! Always enjoyed your down to earth videos. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
green with envy
Just LOVE your tube sessions, very precise in describing how, what, where & when, on peicing and completing tops. Would you please show how to make afterquilts. Thank you
I already have. Check out my playlist on the AFTERQUILT
I found Row by row helped me. Short projects you can finish in a short amount. If a project doesn’t work out,not a big loss.
good idea...thanks for sharing
It’s nice to see your Nashville postcard in the background! I’m writing from Nashville. I watch your videos for the great tips you have. I am coming off a rope bowl obsession, ready to start the winter quilting so I’ll be tuning in regularly. Thank you very much.
You have a lovely town
I'm new to quilting, LOVE your TH-cam vids. I just found your Facebook page, I hope you announce when you are going to go live, I'll try to catch the next one!
Great info!! Excited for you on you new adventure!! ❤️🎉
Yay!!!! We're so excited for you and your new adventure!
@@debraogle7932 I think I saw that one on Amazon and was wondering about it. Thank you. I'll go check it out now.
I'm not so very far from you. I live off the Mississippi River in Arkansas not far from the Louisiana line. It is still very damp here and still freezes me when the cold fronts move through. It looks like I would have learned by now but I guess not.
huge success at your new life chapter. bless.
As you put your scraps together and put them on the back, make a quick label and add it with the scraps, it gets quilted in and no extra step. I embroider my labels, so that’s an extra step, but if you sign a label with permanent marker, it’s pretty fast.
Thank you for this! I enjoy watching you.
I have used lame' in a quilt. I faced it first with interfacing and I found it much easier to work with.
👍🏻🎄Have a lovely, peaceful holiday!💞💫
You too
Happy Holidays to you and your staff!
So sorry to have missed the live feed - happy to see you!
To clean my sewing mat I use a lint roller...works great!
Happy Holidays!
Have a very joyful Christmas.
Two channels that you might like : The last homely house east of the sea and Pat Sloan. Happy family time and love from France
I'll check them out
renee anne : I watch those two channels, too!

I am in the process of finding a way so that they are affordable to all.
I'm looking forward to the pillow video!
Hi! I’m hoping you will consider doing an instructional video on quilt labels soon💕love your videos.
What can I do to watch your live feed? I know it's the first Saturday of the month, but what time, and how can I log in? Your tutorials are some of the best, and your sense of humor is contagious! Merry Christmas, and all the best in the New Year.
Go to Facebook and follow my page. I set up an event for the Q n A
I do like the dresden ruler for tumblers.
I hate making a label after my quilt is done, so I make the label before I finish the quilt.
Sorry I missed your Q&A, Traralgon, VICTORIA, Australia. I have a flip top metal tin that I use for needles.
If that’s too much...it’s okay to cut it back to 20 minutes or 10. Do what you can.
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts Tried the 30 minute tip today. I did 30 minutes on the house. Then 30 minutes cleaning the studio, then 30 minutes sewing. Did this 4 times today and feel much better about everything. Thanks for all of your tips
Hello from Bladenboro, North Carolina!
Enjoy your videos. Thank you
I used lame' once in a project. And I found using a gossamer thin iron on stabilizer was the only way I could handle it effectively. Watch the low heat on that.
