It was in the editing of this video that I could really appreciate the courage Stephanie had in speaking about failure. Unfortunately in this day and age, our misfortunes and missteps are out in public and archived on the internet. There are few short cuts to recovery. But I hope through all the wonderful comments you have left here, Stephanie knows that she is well loved by this community and she has so much to offer us all.
Can't tell you how much your video helped me. One good thing about this time in the world is that real people are sharing their real. I am envying your daughters. You are healthier than you will ever know. Think of our fore mothers dealt with their mental struggles. No girlfriends, no phones. Talk about scrappy quilts. I dont believe they lived long enough to even imagine their self-worth. ❤
Stephanie, I absolutely adore you. Sharing your struggles is brave and loving. God bless you as you find your path to what is best for you now. Hugs from someone who misses you on TH-cam. 🌺 Karen, thank you for having Stephanie on your podcast. 😀
Thank you for sharing Stephanie. It was so raw and real. My husband suffers from depressions. He is on medication that has helped tremendously. I have never suffered from depression myself until my son died. I have so much anxiety and face depression when I least expect it. Quilting and cross-stitching helps me keep my mind busy and occupied. I never doubted that depression was real but when you face it yourself you then understand and can show compassion to others who have delt with it for years. Much of my husbands depression stems from his religious upbringing as it sounds like that is the case with you. I always told my husband we will protect our children from what was acceptable when he was young as I am sure you are doing the same. I hope all good thing for you and your family in the future.
I just want to give Stephanie a hug! I can identify with a lot of what she said regarding anxiety. We often hold ourselves to such unrealistic standards and wonder why we have anxiety and depression. I'm so glad Stephanie has found help and is working on being healthy in mind and spirit. What an amazing creative! What an amazing journey. Life IS a journey and it isn't an easy one. Anyone who makes it seem easy isn't being honest. I'm so glad to see Stephanie back in front of the camera. Sending every woman love and strength for the journey and wherever it takes you.
I remember her video where she announced her downsizing. I felt so sad with her and frustrated that the state of the economy had played such a part in it while also feeling that the other side of what seemed like an insurmountable obstacle was going to be okay ... maybe different, but okay -- because it often is. Thank you, Karen, for having Stephanie on your channel.
Thank you Karen and Stephanie for such an honest video discussing mental health issues. No doubt there will be many that this discussion will help. Mental health issues need to be normalized as health issues that many deal with - and need to seek help with. There should be no more shame for seeking help with our mental health than seeking help with a physical medical issue.
Mental health is biological just like physical health. I am the wife of a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who does a residency in psychiatrist. A clinical psychologist usually has a Phd in psychology. The psychiatrist can prescribe medication to help the patient. There should be no stigma attached to seeing a professional to help with anxiety, depression, or any mental health problem. I love Stephanie and have watched her for years. Good luck and good wishes for the future!
Thank you Karen, for interviewing Stephanie. I had been following her just before she downsized and wondered where she had landed. The mental health discussions were fabulous, even for non-quilters! Thanks again
I watched her video about her shop beeing closed a few months back and was so sorry for her. Shipping to Germany is quiet pricy, so I never subscribed to her. But I bought one of her great books. Yesterday I started sewing again after a year and remembered her and looked up for her to see how she is doing. I totally admire her honesty and wish her and her family all the best. Thank you Karen as well, for this great interview. ❤
Karen thank you for having this conversation with Stephanie. This is one of my favourite episodes you have made. Stephanie thank you for sharing. Please know you are not alone.
Karen, this must be one of your best interviews. Stephanie's honesty and openest was amazing to watch. So many will benefit from her openness in discussing her mental health journey. What an amzing woman.
I’ve watched Stephanie for years and although I would have loved to be a part of her monthly subscriptions, the shipping to Australia was prohibitive. I was heartbroken when I watched her bravely put together a video telling us she was closing down her shop and the monthly subscription. I do hope she gets back to being on top of her game, she is such a beautiful person. Thanks for the interview
I agree totally with you Susan. I loved watching her videos but unfortunately in Australia we are very limited with what we can buy. Monthly subscriptions and BOM's are just not practical due to the shipping costs. I continually try contacting the major shops with various BOM's in the hope that they can ship it all at once (even with me paying upfront and them shipping at the end of the BOM) to no avail. I am hoping that Stephanie continues her journey and finds her mojo again. Her honesty was amazing.
Yes, I felt the same. I would have loved to support her, but shipping to Germany is quiet pricy as well. But I bought one of her great books and already made a quilt out of it ❤
Thankyou for interviewing Stephanie! Great interview. I am so happy to see that she has found a way to continue to contribute and keep her passion going.
Stephanie got me interested in quilting. I loved QAA and appreciate she was so open about her situation. This was a great video and wish Stephanie the best.
It’s so good to see Stephane again. I attended one of her quilting classes on 2018, and she brought me into the modern world of quilting thru this class. I am so grateful that she was there when I needed her. I still miss her storefront because her choices in fabric were many times, just what I needed. Stephanie, please know how much were/are appreciated and I’m always glad to see you on TH-cam.
Oh my goodness! I thought I was the only wackado who looked at bathroom tiles and saw potential quilts!🥰 Thank you so much for being your true self and sharing with us!❤️💕
Stephanie reminds me so much of my daughter, wise, loving and very helpful! Because Jessica saw a need for mental health help in all the farming families she comes in contact with, she went back to school to earn her degree in Psychology! Now she helps other families as well as her own. Way to go Stephanie, you and my daughter are amazing!
It was great to see and hear from Stephanie. Two years ago when I had rotator cuff surgery and couldn’t do anything except sit in my recliner, I discovered TH-cam and quilting channels. Two of the channels I watched were, Stephanie’s and yours, Karen. Although they weren’t my style at the time, I was very interested in seeing the fabrics and designers that Stephanie showcased. From you Karen, I learned that sometimes you have to pack up your sewing room to make room for the return of an adult child. That’s something I thought I would never have to do, but I’m doing it now. Our son lives about six hours away from us, and the small company he worked for laid off its employees after the loss of their main contract. Because he couldn’t find a job near his home, he started looking near us. He found a job here through a contract agency, and he and his small puppy will be arriving at the end of this week. So I not only need to make space for my son in a bedroom-turned-sewing-room, but my husband and I also need to puppy proof our house, which is not easy when I have my quilting supplies and machines spread throughout the house. My son will go home to see his wife on the weekends, and we’ll be puppy sitting until he feels confident that the puppy can handle a long train ride. I keep thinking that if Karen could do this, so can I.
Man Karen, that truth bomb be dropping today. "I think that there is just not way it is ever going to all fit. " Mom guilt is rough. Appreciated Stephanie's openness and vulnerability. All the best to her as she pivots!
I’ve watched Stephanie for years and find it so sad to hear how many struggles she’s been through. She has done a stellar job with her business & channel in the past and I’m sure she will have great success in the future. She’s worked hard and deserves to reap the rewards. I hope her future is prosperous & successful. ❤
Thank you Karen for interviewing Stephanie. I watched her with her ups and downs of the business and felt so bad when things fell apart for her. I really admire her and you for telling the truth, as we say, "telling on ourselves" in recovery. When I hear the ups and downs of people in their work I am so grateful that after 50 years of work I am retired and can just stay home and quilt and try to find my coffee in the morning!
I appreciate so much being part of this community, living life, facing huge issues, working through our background affects and effects and being surrounded by each other. I’ve watched you two so often that I feel the connection and appreciate your letting me - and us - into the deep parts. ❤
I don’t consider your falling on hard times with your business a failure. I give Stephanie loads of credit for pursuing the business of quilting. Her creativity is amazing and I enjoy her TH-cam videos so much.
I don't either. I consider it just a season of life/world. There are no buggy shops anymore - it is just how the free market and the economy changes as what is happening around is changes.
I can’t imagine the pressure Stephanie was under, and it sounds like she is learning to be kinder to herself since things have slowed down for it, albeit involuntarily. Having had my own mental health issues, I totally related to the “walk the dog” story and getting hair and make up on. I so admire the strength she shows sharing here and if I could sit down and have a cup of coffee and give her a hug I would feel most privileged.
I found both JGID and Quilt Addicts Anonymous during the pandemic, and it really awakened my love of sewingand quilting became a passion and mental health support. Thank you both for a fabulous sew-along interview for me.
Thank you Stephanie. I am 77 and learnt so much from your interview. I am still learning to let go and tell myself i am okay to not do and be everything people want me to be. So once again, thank you for being so honest and true. I am sending this link to my son who is going through pretty much the same. Blessings and love to you and your family. Take care. You are an amazing woman.
As many here, I found Stephanie during the pandemic, loved her subscription box, and following her journey. It was a pleasure to see this interview and a bonus of meeting you and listening to Just Get it Done Quilts for the first time!
So good to hear this young lady discuss her mental health. I have had depression and anxiety forever. I just can't share it with many people. My sewing, quilting, stitching is my outlet. It keeps me busy and creating.
i love Stephanie's books and patterns. I've made several of her patterns. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow. Her videos were especially helpful. I made one called "Ribbon Candy" and one called "Frequency". Both are beautiful quilts that I have given to people I love. Take care of yourselves and thank you, Stephanie for sharing your life, your love of quilts and your ability to teach me how to make a beautiful quilt!
Life has many of us struggling mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Thanks so much for doing this interview and thanks so much for being honest and open. Every day be like climbing a mountain to those of us who struggle and when you look fine, people think you are okay. Bravo. Your are fighting 3 times as hard to get done with you need to get done. That is one strong woman. Sending you good vibes for your future successes and next adventure.
Karen, thank you for interviewing Stephanie. I watched her TH-cam channel for years. On her channel now, Stephanie and her friend Chantal have a live about every two weeks, usually on a Friday night where they sit, sew and chat. It's quite fun to watch.
Stephanie, I love your shade of lipstick and your makeup looks very smooth and light. Hope things turn around and you have more success in the weeks ahead. I've always like your videos. Thanks Karen for having her on.🥰😊
Very funny about the 3/8" seam allowance. I had been sewing on my machine for 30 yrs but it wasn't until I started quilting that I found out I didn't know where the 1/4" seam allowance was. Assumed after all those years I knew. Quilting regularly keeps me humble after 50+ years of sewing.
I didn’t realize how important this interview would be. Stephanie talked about so many relatable things. I loved seeing her light up when she talked about the crafty things she’s working on because she can, not because she has to. Thanks for a great interview.
This was such a helpful conversation. Thank you for your courage in sharing your journey. My experience mirrors yours although I am in a different field. Hearing your journey helps me have a good attitude this week. Thank you.
good on you Stephanie, it's tough dealing with loss and grief, family stuff and financial issues and it's no wonder it all affects ongoing mental health challenges.
Thank you for having this video, mine depression started with closing the long arm business to care for my mother (cancer) and then my sister (cancer) lost both six months apart. Now at 80 do I want to reopen-it's up and down. Thank you for the idea and thinking about writing.
Thank you for sharing what was clearly a difficult bump in your career, Stephanie. I am so awed by the strength and bravery you've shown in openly naming and working through anxiety and depression and the life and career changes that followed. I do hope that these comments (not a one of them is negative, notice?) can help fuel your next step and then the next one and then the next one...I'm so glad to hear that you can see the other side. We'll be here when you get there!!
Karen you are always, such a compassionate, understanding interviewer and again with Stephanie. It’s wonderful that you both have been able to maintain your creativity which so often is sacrificed when reaching out for help in dealing with life challenges to improve ones mental health. (I’m a fellow sufferer with a similar journey) It’s the small shifts in focus with better self acceptance that allows creative flow and continuity moving forward. There is no shame here! only more self empowerment, inner strength and joy which you both radiate. It inspires and spurs me on to immerse myself in each moment, soak it up and release the joy! be it quilting or playing with my dogs ! Love your online efforts immensely 👍🙏thank you🧵🪡✂️💜
You know you are a quilter when… I take photos of bricks and tiles… I based a quilt on the architecture of my last trip to Christchurch NZ. It brings me joy.
Conversations like this are so healthy and validating to share the way you do. Life happens, and challenges are inevitable. How we deal with them and manage to keep going forward can be really hard. Now I need to go look up her books. Thanks again for another great video.
Thanks for airing this interview.. Women feel we have to be perfect at everything. That is so unrealistic. I admire anyone that is willing to publicly admit that.
Thank you Karen for allowing her the time to actually answer the questions. ❤ I’ve always loved Stephanie and I hate that she had to go thru these life experiences.
Great interview Karen. I have followed Stephanie since I came across her while searching for ways to fold my fabric for best storage. Still use the method to this day. So happy to see her take care of herself and wish her much success on her comeback. Very courageous woman.
I also understand mental health struggles. When i am not well, i have no motivation to sew. Its one of my signs that stress is affecting my joy. Ans that is never a good thing. You ladies rock!! Great interview! Thank you
So happy to see this. Unfortunately, I found Stephanie literally a week before she had to cut back to nearly nothing. It's good to see her looking well (definitely do not see any blemish, lol), and focusing on the things that are important for her and her family. I hope she's able to continue to grow in the quilting world, but at a pace and rate that works for her AND keeps her well.
So good to see and hear from Stephanie Soebbing. I've bought WAY too much fabric from her and a member of her club for years. Thank you both and thank you both for your honesty. We dont have to be everything to everyone because we're women!
Thank you both for this video. I hv wondered how you were doing, Stephanie. I applauded your braveness when you closed your brick and mortar, and your transparency, both then and now. I sincerely wish you continued improve and peace as you work through these layers of pain. Thank you so much. You hv bn, and still are, an inspiration.
So much heart and soul in one interview. I have watched both of your channels for the last few years since I resumed sewing during the pandemic, making masks for friends and family and donations. I have made 2 baby quilts so far and I am working on a quilt as you go t shirt quilt for my daughter. We went to lots of rock concerts while she was growing up so it is a memory blanket for us both. I appreciate your talking about mental health and I also subscribe to Mx. Domestic and have watched his journey too. I have learned a lot about quilting, sewing and acceptance of our own mental health issues and dealing with them, quilting helps. Much love to you, Stephanie and Mx. Domestic .Please keep doing what you do, so many of us need and appreciate it.
Thank you Karen ,Have watched Stephanie since she started video's, she helped me through most of sewing adventure. I have listened to her stories and watched Stephanie grow as a beautiful caring women .
Wishing you all the best as you find healing. I’ve been dealing with mental health issues for most of my life, but severely so the past three years, and just got laid off yesterday, but one day at a time. I will be hand sewing EPP while I work out what’s next.
Karen, I'm so glad you interviewed Stephanie too! Thank you. **hugs** Stephanie, it was great to see and hear you chatting. I found your TH-cam channel when I first started dabbling in quilting, maybe 2019. (I have been sewing since middle school, about 60 years, making clothes for myself and dolls, toys, etc.) Anyway, wanting to learn all about quilting I relied on TH-camrs, and you helped me so much. Your Raspberry Sherbet Triangle Masterclass was wonderful and so very helpful! Glad to hear that you'll be making more videos. And by the way, you light up and sparkle when you talk about sewing with your daughter. 😊
Thank you for sharing Stephanie’s successes and struggles. I had just found her a few months before she posted her video about giving up her business as it stood at the time. It was heartbreaking to me because so many businesses are being affected by our current economic climate. It is nice to hear, even in her difficult times she is pushing on and still doing some of the things she loves.
Karen, you did such a nice job with this interview. I loved it. Have you thought about interviewing Brittany with Lo and Behold? I would to learn more about her and the company she has built. I love your videos!! You’re an inspiration. Thank you!
Thanks Karen for exploring the ups and downs of our lives with quilting as an important component. I appreciate your honesty and Stephanie's. There are some times we just have to stop and restructure or reroute or say this didn't work for me and I'm not doing this anymore. Thank you for your honesty.
I participated in Stephanie’s quilt club I looked forward to the bundles each month She is a very creative, inspiring resource for those of us who quilt Quilting is an therapy for all of us dealing with mental or health issues I wish she would once in awhile do a utube program on quilting Right now I’m interested in precuts - I love using all the variety of fabrics Stephanie’s manor of presentation is excellent I miss you Stephanie 😘
Stephanie, I first followed you when you wrote your column for the QC Times. Loved your quilt shop and your fabrics, spent a few dollars in your shop. Loved seeing your interview, your honesty is wonderful. Miss seeing you in person. Take care!
I was so grateful for this interview! We love Stephanie and her channel and believe in her and we know she will get through this and be stronger than ever. Kudos to her strong, supportive husband. That is a blessing!
As a retired nurse, talking about Mental Health is one thing. Actually doing something about it is another. Kudos to Stephanie for making the commitment to her mental health and for the courage to share it. She has put a pebble in a pond and the ripples outward will help so many with her story - that you are NOT alone! I have found through life to be depressed at times about a job I did not get, or one I had to leave, or another life choice that did not turn out the way I thought it would. But I found God works in stange ways. He gives you what you need, not neccessarily what you want! I would like it if you interviewed her a year from now and see if she has regained some joy in the way her life has changed. We all need to find that spot and rejoice in it.
Sending you tons of love and healing vibes, Stephanie. Seeing the next adventure bringing you more joy and abundance. Can’t wait to see your panel book!
Stephanie you’re an amazing human. I wish there was something I could say that would help you to see yourself through my eyes. I see you as so talented and giving. Thank you for all you do. Please take care of yourself first and then everything else will be a little easier.
The fabric and patterns I have from Stephanie are first class. I was sorry to hear that she was stepping back from the business, but didn't blame her, either. She's a good, honest teacher and I would always feel inspired by her TH-cam videos.
Wow I didn't know needed to hear what Stephanie had to say. Thank you, I deal with depression that I try to ignore and she gave me a lot to think about.
Depression is so difficult to deal with and it’s important to discuss it openly. I’ve been dealing with depression many years. I was so worried about my children’s lives being ruined because of my depression but they are all adults and married and parents and doing great. All 3 have told me that they are stronger and more compassionate towards others and themselves because of my strength to struggle through my mental health issues and never quitting. Now I’m enjoying life with my grandkids and back to focusing on quilting in my retirement.
Karen, thank you for this interview with Stephanie. I want to say I really enjoy watching both of you lovely ladies. Stephanie, you have an amazing soul. I have enjoyed getting to know you thru being on the channel with you and Chantal. I have battled with depression for years. I am bipolar and have the manic highs and manic lows. It is a severe struggle. Thank you for sharing, the honesty is refreshing. Quilting has been a saving grace.
Thanks Karen, for this interview, it was so nice to fall right into this as I was looking for something that I am working on, and it was awesome to see Stephanie, and I can identified with her on her struggle with mental health, I have gone through exactly what she has experienced, so it was nice to hear it from someone else, I followed her for a long time and I was one of the members of her club, so I have tons of her fabrics and patterns that I just love, work in a few of them. I pray that she will find her footing onto you tube again, she is great at what she does, and easy to relate to. Looking forward to see more of her and her work. Love Marcia
Thank you for this conversation. It is so needed. I’m thankful that Stephanie is back in business, even tho it is in a different way. May both of you continue to bless us with your creativity. God bless you both.
Thank you for this TH-cam. I find that when I do something new, I stress so much. So silly as I’ve made clothing before. I find I don’t want to see people. It’s hard. I have not been able to get into my quilting room. Having a 3 1/2 year granddaughter I decided to make her clothing which I made when my girls were young. It took me 3 weeks to finish one dress. My daughter found me new depression cream and I’m feeling much better. I even made a dress in a day. I’m even thinking of going back into my quilting room after I’ve finished a couple more dresses. Yes we keep smiling even though our eyes don’t sparkle. Good luck everyone

Thank you so much for having me on! It's always helpful to talk through life's experiences and it was a joy to talk about them with you.
She’s amazing! I love the fact that she was willing to talk about being ok with not being perfect. She is inspirational.

Karen and Stephanie - this would have to be one of the best quilting interviews I have heard. Such honesty was refreshing Stephanie.

Thanks Joyce, you'll get to see me again soon on my channel!

Stephanie, i found a video you made for a log cabin and it helped me so much that i am on my second one. Appreciate all your hard work!
Thank you so much for taking time to leave such a nice comment. It is very encouraging to read.
Karen, thank you for interviewing Stephanie. I watched her TH-cam channel for years. On her channel now, Stephanie and her friend Chantal have a live about every two weeks, usually on a Friday night where they sit, sew and chat. It's quite fun to watch.
Thank you for this episode, I wills show it to my daughter who suffers from depression. Your honesty is uplifting.
I have learnt soooo much from both of you lovely ladies , thankyou ,l appreciated your time & effort with every thing , Australia
I didn’t realize how important this interview would be. Stephanie talked about so many relatable things. I loved seeing her light up when she talked about the crafty things she’s working on because she can, not because she has to. Thanks for a great interview.
It is so impressive to hear such an open discussion on mental health, but also a story of new starts and hopes.
Congratulations Stephanie. One day at a time.
Hair and makeup plus aging is my nemesis! Good for you Karen to have this important conversation with Stephanie. Incredible!
Thank you for sharing this open and honest discussion. So many of us have been dealing with 'issues'. Sewing and quilting have been my therapy.
Thanks for being so open about your mental struggles. Stephany is oe of my favorite designers.
So proud of you Stef. I love to see honesty in this industry.
I love Stephanie. Do your best, and don’t worry about the rest. I struggle with anxiety and can relate. I think you are awesome.
I have alot faith in you, Stephanie! As painful as having one door close, another will open. Take care.
Stephanie, you are an amazing, inspiring woman. Good luck with the next stage of your career.
Love your online efforts immensely 👍🙏thank you🧵🪡✂️💜
Thankyou , l have learnt sooooo much from you 2 lovely ladies Australia
I so appreciate both you & Stephanies strength for sharing what so many struggle with-thank you both!
I was recently in the Rock Island area. I'm glad Stephanie is doing better. I need to go find her TH-cam channel
You know you are a quilter when… I take photos of bricks and tiles… I based a quilt on the architecture of my last trip to Christchurch NZ. It brings me joy.
LOL…tiles and doors too
Conversations like this are so healthy and validating to share the way you do.
Thank you Karen and Stephanie, so appreciate this conversation. Stephanie I really appreciate you. I check in and watch you often.
I have made 2 baby quilts so far and I am working on a
quilt as you go t shirt quilt for my daughter.
Rock Island is about 25 miles away where I lived for 6 years, from 6th grade through my junior year in high school. Fond memories
Wishing you all the best as you find healing. I’ve been dealing with mental health issues for most of my life, but severely so the past three years, and just got laid off yesterday, but one day at a time. I will be hand sewing EPP while I work out what’s next.
I’ve watched Stephanie during COVID and after. She’s a lovely person and very relatable. I appreciate the both of you. ❤
Thank you both for sharing the growth pains we all go through but tell no one! Stefanie I loved your work
How incredible and inspiring and wonderfully open Stephanie is - heading over to check her TH-cam out. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
Karen, I'm so glad you interviewed Stephanie too! Thank you. **hugs**
Stephanie, it was great to see and hear you chatting.
Stephanie, you had a 'closure' and are moving on to a new, fascinating chapter of your life! Enjoy!
I participated in Stephanie’s quilt club
I looked forward to the bundles each month
She is a very creative, inspiring resource for those of us who quilt
Quilting is an therapy for all of us dealing with mental or health issues
I wish she would once in awhile do a utube program on quilting
Right now I’m interested in precuts - I love using all the variety of fabrics
Stephanie’s manor of presentation is excellent
I miss you Stephanie 😘
Thank you for this time. Well done.
Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed your videos. Good to see you again
Sending you tons of love and healing vibes, Stephanie. Seeing the next adventure bringing you more joy and abundance. Can’t wait to see your panel book!
Thanks for this interview. I’ve been subscribed to her for a few years. I enjoy her channel.
Love Marcia
Oh gosh I think so many need to hear this. Thanks for the honest conversation 😊❤
Ive followed her for a long time, such a journey ❤❤❤
