    I got this monitor and returned it because it wasn't bright enough if you're in a sunny room or working next to huge windows. It's only 300 nits and the best way I could see difference shades of white/grays for any UI work was to up the brightness to 100% (if it wasn't already) and close my blinds. This sucks because if you're already paying rent for a place with city or nature views but don't get to enjoy those views because the monitor just wasn't bright enough. I highly recommend it for anyone working away from windows or tend to keep their room dark - this monitor is a BEAST. Sadly, it just wasn't the right fit for me, and other creatives should know this issue too.

    Impressive in every way. I've been thinking about the idea of integrating a monitor like this in my home office. I bought a Protractor Desk at Barcelona Designs, I changed my old task chair for a more ergonomic one and I have improved the lighting a lot; these changes have allowed me to be more productive. I think choosing a monitor like this is a success. Thank you very much for the review!

    @tomnoske BROOOO! Amen! just bought the same monitor after using a 32"4K for years and im on the fence about whether that 20-30% more screen is worth. i love how you touch on the deeper and profound insights into a setup like how we feel and simplicity. I'm 100% on same page and totally agree! It's a pricey upgrade costing a good 1500$ over a 4K32" but that feeling of a wide view and spaceship deck feel is quite something. makes me wanna get some sh%t done! thanks for sharing and for the soul you pour into your videos. it is felt.

    I just got this monitor and I love it. Previously always had dual monitor setups at work and always used one as a primary. There's always the awkward middle wedge that got in the way. At home I had an old 30 inch 4:3. It was just too tall. Now with a new WFH job, I needed some more usable real estate and this works perfectly. A 34 ultra wide was too small for my bad eyes. With this 40 I find running it at 3440 x 1440 to be perfect for me. Basically the same scale as a 34 but with the pixel density of this lovely 40. The 40 as a 5k2k has much more pixel density than a 34 inch and it helps. And definitely beats the pants off my old HP zr30w

    I ended up grabbing this a couple of months ago. I also got the standard-ish 38" LG ultrawide because I was curious how they differed. No fricken comparison. The 38" (with lower resolution) showed text with some blur and if drove me nuts. Clearly, I returned that one. The 5k 40" is fantastic. It's a productivity freak's DREAM. Thanks for this Tom!

    I recently got this monitor and absolutely love it. I upgraded from dual 27" 4k screens after briefly trying a 49" but realized the resolution on that was way too low. It really is the perfect amount of space without being overwhelming. What arm are you using to mount it? Has it been working well? The monitor isn't quite as heavy as some of the 49"s but I'm still worried about some of the less strong arms not being quite stable enough.

  • @allerune
    @allerune ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done! Your review is unique in the way that it is the only one that refers to the PC setup, I'd change the name of the video to reflect that, you'd have more views I'm sure.
    There is something missing though. You told people how it is to use the monitor and how it can enhance your productivity etc. You did not get into the very important subject (for PC users, especially laptops) - can I be able to utilise this beast?
    Content creators are one of the potential user groups for this machine, but the other one is a power user - software developer, or some other IT professional who tries to build a perfect home office and try to utilise their work laptop as well as possible.
    What types of PC's/laptops, which generations of built-in graphics cards can connect to such a monitor? People (like myself) have to do a ton of research before figuring out that their work laptop won't be able to fuel the laptop unless they connect as 2 separate monitors (4k2k + 1k2k on separate cables). There are probably some other nuances that should be considered before making a decision to spend so much money.

  • @aryaprincess2479
    @aryaprincess2479 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It is a 5K monitor, the K stands for the horizontal resolution and of course depending on the aspect ratio the vertical resolution can vary. The correct term would be 5K2K so when you want to differentiate the different vertical resolution you do not have to explain further. This term is also used mostly for ultra wide monitors (eitehr 21:9 or 32:9) to make the distinction between those and the general 16:9 commercial ratio.
    Samsung Odyssey G9 for example would be a 5K1,4K monitor.

    • @TheEchelon
      @TheEchelon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not a true 5K monitor, hence why they have to differentiate it with "5K2K". This has less pixels than a 5K monitor.

    • @aryaprincess2479
      @aryaprincess2479 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheEchelon Which is exactly what I explained, you cannot describe a screen with one term (in this case the horizontal "K" which is not even accurate as a number but an approximate).
      The best way would be to have two number of approximation, one for horizontal and one for vertical.

    Hey mate, how to you find the brightness? It’s the main downside I’ve come across by looking into this monitor , I’m mainly worried since I’d be setup in a room with plenty of windows.
    I’ve also been looking to upgrade to the Omni desk, I’m leaning the dark acacia over the light, I’m assuming that’s what you’ve got? In which case it’s an easy choice!
    Bonus question lol, what colour is the grovemade stand, the colour difference isn’t enough to worry you?

    • @TomNoske
      @TomNoske  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Bryce! From your first question, it definitely lacks in total brightness, however, from my use in my office space with that massive window to my right, I haven't had any issues with it, which is why I didn't mention it in the video, I feel like I have the worst case scenario for a monitor with low brightness, yet it hasn't been noticeable.
      To your second, full disclosure, but The omnidesk have sent me their new one in the light acacia option and I personally prefer the lighter option, but both are beautiful table tops!
      And the grovemade desk shelf I have is their solid walnut option, it's slightly brighter than the dark acacia and slightly darker than the light acacia, but tbh, with real wood, unless you stain the shelf and table yourself from the same cut of wood, they're never going to be identical! I haven't had any issues with the color difference!
      Hope these answers help 🤙🏼
