i lived in Arcata for 9 months in 1981. It was colder than I expected but I probably did not have the right clothing. Went to Humbolt State for a semester. Loved the close proximity to nature. Forest in one direction, sand dunes and ocean in another direction and cow pastures in another direction. Loved that!
The scenery is beautiful. The beaches were amazing, especially near the Trinidad area. Did not really care much for the town. It seemed kind of "gritty" and not at all what I was expecting for a Pacific coastal town.
Thank you. I haven't been there in almost twenty years. I almost don't recognize anything but Wildberries. (Wild Larrys) I miss Arcata. My dad was an artist, and lived in the area and was deeply loved by the people there. I wish I could visit again one more time.
I was born there in the old Trinity hospital thats now a part of HSU or whatever HSU is called now days. Grew up there. When I was a kid lotsa lumber mills, barrel factory, feed stores downtown. Different place now. Like reeeaaaalllly different. But I guess thats how it is with most places. Time always marches on.

With all the States that have legalized recreational use it’s “insane good” in a lot of places. The whole West Coast really. Humboldt doesn’t really have the monopoly it used to.
I was a student at Humboldt State for 2 years and was a census taker in 1980 in Garberville, Fort Bragg, and in the mountains between Arcata and Eureka. Interesting job. I would say that the scenery hasn't changed much but I hear there are social problems. I moved from Arcata to Springfield, Missouri in 1983 and it was quite a change. I am in St. Louis now and I have no desire to even visit California. At least the seasons change here, even though we do have to put up with a cold winter. I grew to hate the fog and rain.
Lived in Humboldt most of my life. Would take that any day over Sacramento. I have a friend that lived in Eureka and I think lives in Springfield. Her first name is Mary Ann. Her husband worked at McCrea Datsun in the 70's, excuse the spelling
I recently spent 4 days in Arcata, Eureka and a few other places on the north coast, and while the natural beauty is breath taking, the rest of area isn't... at all. For an area that is home to about 135K people, it was shocking to see the high degree of big city type probelms that exists there. I saw many boarded up bussinesses and homes, properties that were just not taken care of, homelessness similar to that of SF and LA, not to mention opiate addicts literally everywhere you turn your head. Nice place to visit but I'd never want to live there, and, if you're drive on the 101 thru the downtown areas, be sure your cars are locked when you are a red light. I did not feel safe in this area of the state.
I live nearby. Arcata used to be a nice town but the far left turned it into a miserable expensive cesspool. Perfect example of what Liberalism can do for a community.

Glad you liked it, Orleans Artist. Thanks for Sharing this with us.🙏👍
This place looks so natural and beautiful it kind of gives me the creeps but in a good way. Life here must be pretty laid back and calm.
I filmed this in the early morning n a bit foggy, not too many people woke up yet. kinda give me the chills😅. Thanks for leaving a comment,Paladin.

Thank you. I've used to live there from 2013-2017 as an international student. I miss Arcata.
You are very welcome, HangLi. Coming back to visiting us soon?
I live in Humboldt County I pass by Arcata all the time I actually go to school in arcata
I had a place in Eureka. Always cold and raining. No streetwalkers downtown. You have to look real hard to find a party.
Went there once for some 🌲 pretty cool town and very nice people. Surprisingly poppin’ on the weekend
The nicest people you met there, most of them are my family😅. Hey, PatMac thanks for dropping by and really appreciates you leaving a comment. Cheers🍻

Thank you that saved me a lot of gas money 👍🏼👍🏼🍀🌈🍻
Glad I can help😊
Really neat scenery I have an interest in visiting Arcata.
The people are unique and the students are diverse and cool, weed is insane good.

This climate is paradise to me because I like to walk.
The seasons changing sounds good until you find out that three of them suck.
Damn, I miss humboldt. Stuck in shitty Woodland.
Damn! Arcata burger bar is gone. Went there for lunch in High School circa 1977.
....thank you good soul
Thank you, Barbara.
What a weird perspective. I've been to Arcata many times to visit my brother, but since I don't dive this seems like a foreign country to me.

More litter and graffiti than 1980s. Sad to see VN Burger Bar close. The rudest staff and fantastic greasy apple fritters.
Guess that even out! 😅. Thanks for your comment, Heavy Distortion.
