There is debate on whether blo is food safe. The candy is always in wrappers while in the dish. All I can say is it's never been an issue for me. If I was making a bowl or something to be used for food I wouldn't use this finish because it won't hold to the use.
...it's hard for me to make money from scraps to fund my hobby when my wife wants to keep everything I make...🤔 Impressive how you got such a clean finish with the bowl gouge on that pine(?) end grain...👍 It turned out great... Matt
Hey Rus, nice candy dish. I tried same with 2x6 went pretty easy. I just got a scraper, can't wait to use it. Appreciate the video, keep them coming....Dan
Interesting video along with the others. I notice that you use one tool for almost all your turnings. Is that a bowl gouge or spindle gouge? Size? Thanks.
Welcome back. Looking forward to your shop tour.
@@lewisdye1002 Thank you! Should be up in a day or 2.
Nice. Good recycling.
Thanks!
That 1 1/2” scraper is a massive beastie, but it looks like a high quality tool!
Yes it is
That came out really nice.
@@m8s4lif Thank you! Appreciate you watching!
It's amazing what you make from scraps.
Thank you! I'm glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
@@RcWoodturning Always watching.
@@lenshandcraftedwoodsigns6033 I appreciate that!
Thank you so much, Rus, what a beautiful candy dish!
I'm glad you like it Katrina!
Thank you for providing excellent quality tools for these projects.
Nice! I’ve made some of these to give as gifts. Might try selling them.
@@michaelmorris3627 Thanks! They do make good gift ideas.
If your formula food safe? Thinking of the candy dish you show.

There's a lot to be said for a happy wife.
The sheer scrape is an excellent technique to learn.
Thanks for watching!

Thank you Dan! It's kind of a plain design, but that's what the customer wanted.
Appreciate you watching!

I'm hooked. I want a wood working lathe. What is the maker of that lathe? That is so satisfying watching this.
Thank you! This lathe is a shop fox W1752. I don't think they make one anymore, but have similar.
What is in the jar labeled: “furniture polish”? Is it a formula you would be willing to share?
Thanking you in advance.
@@terryalextexas8638 It's homemade friction polish.

@@RcWoodturning Subscribed, going to watch more of your videos. Gotta make some $$$$.
Hope it works out for you.
Nice work. Turning pines always a disaster for me. Guess I need to learn to sharpen better
Thanks!
Ya, learning to sharpen and tool technique are probably your biggest assets.
Why glue the two pieces together offset, on the diagonal, if you're going to turn round? Was it for the grain effect?
Yes. I don't know if made any difference but I thought I would try it.
@@RcWoodturning Interesting grain orientation. Curious: what do you charge for that candy dish?
@@knothead5 Thank you! I sold this for 15.00. But everyone at the craft show told me I was underpricing my products.
What did you use for finish?
Friction polish.
@@RcWoodturning Thanks, just started turning last month on an inherited lathe and learning all I can while practicing!
Why stagger the corners?
@@baxterrinehart6166 I was attempting to change up the grain design, but I'm not sure if it really made a difference.
