      Buy the book "champagne boating on a beer budget". So many people stack cash and wait to go sailing, you don’t need that much money and can take an old boat that will take you to an adventure.
      We bought a trashy, tiny, 10k$ catamaran in the keys and went to learn sailing in the Bahamas a few years ago.

    That and the bigger 54 is definitely my new dream boats, if I won that lottery ever. I never liked the Chris White designs, but you cracked it: The benefits of the forward cockpit and helm position in one with none of the obvious downsides, as in Chris White designs is, that you have to basically go indoor entirely in bad weather and back out in full open, if you need to change the sail plan. On this boat you just close the hatches to the bow in bad weather and can stay in the cockpit and even can close to the living accommodation behind, so that will take none of the bad weather and sprays at all. Perfect!

    Wow, what an amazing yacht. Great design and features. Fantastic with electric motor but with backup generator extended range. This boat deserves a design award.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The boats sail so fast that the generator gets almost no use. Also hydrogeneration and lots of solar means the generator gets almost no use for powering house loads.

      @@LoanwordEggcorn Amen, diesel can be $15,000 a year from some full time sailors. On top of that you can sometimes wait hours to get a spot at a fuel dock. Even worse in many parts of the world there is no fuel dock so you're using Jerry cans (via the tinder) to hobble together enough fuel to get to the next fuel dock. All of that headache is largely removed with this boat. Add to that the decreased maintenance and wear versus diesel engines and it's a no brainer.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn

    a potential issue with that L-shaped window pane in the aft cabins is that if and when that shatters in the middle of the pacific and on passage, then you’re potentially in deep trouble - not mentioning waiting forever for the replacement.

    Interesting concept and layout. Lots of good ideas. Interior finish looks very basic for million plus euro yacht, though. Lots of sharp corners on the woodwork. Another, more technical video would go a long way to assuaging concerns expressed in these comments. Would like to know about mechanical room(s) access, seaworthiness, and troubleshooting the lines since they are running under the deck. Is this the first 50 footer from the manufacturer?

    Awesome video. I, as a non-sailor, I have one question: with the chain winch, do you get dirt being splattered in the cabin? I often see the silt/mud being dragged up by the chain, all the way to the chain locker.

    • @TheSakeCat
      @TheSakeCat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly the bigger issue from my novice inspection is no rear anchors on most of these cats that I see. I always figured you could just motor forward A little before bringing up your last bit to nock the muck. Kinda surprised they don't have a wash now a days.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@TheSakeCat Windelo has an anchor (chain) wash system.
      Anchors are always at the front. Anchoring at the rear can sink a boat because boats are higher at the front than the back. (That's the short answer.)

    That's a huge bed for a performance cat. Wow

  • @alexforget
    @alexforget ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The biggest concern is lightning protection with an electric drive.
    So many sailors see *all* their electronics blow in an instant, leaving you stranded in the tropics waiting for unavailable parts (and a huge bill)
    What tests did you make to ensure lightning survivability?
    I really like the design of the forward cockpit and the inside/outside space.
    The daggerboard could be on the side if it give more inside space, I don’t think we would miss more than a few % of upwind performance anyway.
    Otherwise it’s cost. If they can produce those hull at a good speed and drive cost down they definitely have a winner.
    The eco part is a bit of a joke (or a feel good thing) it’s made huge chunk of plastic anyway, let’s not kid ourselves. The amount of fuel used will be negligible anyway on a catamaran compared to all the waste of creating and maintaining such a beast.

  • @emberbaker7798
    @emberbaker7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Wow! This is a different concept. Wish the camera would travel through the boat so we can get a sense of interior volume. Also didn't show any storage/closet space or heads. I'm worried about the daggerboards in the middle of the hull. Also can that front cockpit be closed in front or do you get drenched in rain or rough sea conditions.

    Very innovative! I love the connected concept. Makes sense. I always thought why have multiple seating areas, while you can have one. The opening of the saloon is a brilliant idea. One thing that I think should have some more attention is ventilation. The opening hatches are rather small in the cabins. With the aft cabin, I think the airflow will not be adequate. One concern is with the front-facing windows for the pilot area. How is this enclosed? Is that some heavy-duty glass capable of withstanding a beating from waves in bad weather?
