    I ordered the Asrock TRX40 Creator for a 3960x workstation build a couple of hours ago - before I saw the post about this video... glad to see there are no nasty surprises in store 😊

    Really dig this channel. Luke is excellent at detailing the components and none of those melodramatic cringey forced attempts at unfunny humour you see with US based channels. Extremely useful for my decision making

    I bought this MB, I have a fully open loop watercooled rig, so the CPU is watercooled, and my 3x GPU's are watercooled, therefore the heat issue for my M.2 SSD'S is fine. Also I have 48TB of internal raid via Sata and 64gb of 3600Mhz ram, running the 3960X as I didn't need the extra cores of the 3970X. but it's a very good MB at a good price.

      Hey man, can you message me on youtube for a few questions? I wanted to run multiple gpu's on this exact motherboard but was having difficulty :/ I would greatly appreciate your help!

      hi, do you have the build details documented anywhere?

    • @nashgich5315
      @nashgich5315 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. Planning on doing the exact same thing on this motherboard with the GPU and same TR except the water cooling loop - want to use the Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 as I've seen it has really good results for the threadrippers even in heavy load tests. As Manoj asked do u have a build components list?

      Did you watercool the motherboard vrm?

    • @johnbancroft5242
      @johnbancroft5242 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewCislak No just the CPU and the GPU's. I now have a 3090, and 2080TI both water cooled, for Davinci Resolve studio work.

    I very rarely comment on anything, but we are looking to build a render machine for our studio and these reviews have been fantastic. Appreciate the time and effort you've put into this.

    Anyone buying a new TRX40 motherboard? if so - which one are you looking at buying? (or which one did you already get?)

      Nope. My R7 3800X is all the CPU I need right now.

    • @brianhoward9217

      Yes, I am. 'ASUS Zenith Extreme 2' due to, mainly, my smooth and reliable experience with ASUS over the years and the quality that shines through on this new TRX40 board. The VRMs are to die for, it has the best rear IO ports (2x type C ports!) of any of the TRX40 boards. There's an Alpha version of this coming out soon with ridiculously beefed up VRMs (was briefly on the ASUS site 2 days ago and they took it down! Bigger VRMs the only diff) but it will be for overclockers and I just do 4K video editing so the standard extreme is everything (plus more) that I need. And, of course the 3960 or 3970X CPU - I haven't decided the exact one yet. I like to future proof as much as I can so possibly the 3970X. 64GB RAM should top it off nicely. Would love to see Leo do a review of the board!

      Getting this one. the cheapest board with the best features and gpu spacing imo. Going to drop the ProSiphon into it once its out.

      Yes, I have the ASRock TRX40 creator and I’m trying to hook up 9 rgb Corsair fans to the motherboard. If the TRX40 only has 2 RGB headers , how to I plug in all the fans ?

    Only thing I don't like with HEDT boards with this slot config is once you populate with 2 GPUs, you're just left with 2 8x slots which isnt very good for Quad NVMe cards

    • @KitGuruTech
      @KitGuruTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an interesting point. I'd imagine you can put one of the GPUs in a x8 slot and therefore use the freed up x16 slot to bifurcate as x4/x4/x4/x4 for a quad NVMe adapter. I haven't tried it myself, but I see no reason why that wouldn't work (unless you're after SLI with a specific bridge spacing). It would be quite interesting to test out actually... :D!

      A GPU will not saturate a x8 PCIe gen 4 slot, as it has the same data transfer rate as a x16 PCIe gen 3 slot.

    If you go with custom liquid liquid cooling you can turn a 2 slot card to 1 slot size

    Proper workstation boards should have U.2 connectors as well, they are more likely to need large fast storage

    • @lukehill5739
      @lukehill5739 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very good point. I always quite liked U.2 as an interface but it seems to be dying for consumer and prosumer platforms (not the datacenter or server platforms).
      I think the market has moved firmly towards the M.2 interface and that's where the most logical SSDs exist for many prosumer and workstation type buyers. I guess an M.2 to U.2 adapter card is an option, but that will potentially cause interference with some of the cards in PCIe slots above.

    • @nphil93992
      @nphil93992 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lukehill5739 True but M.2 is limited to 2TB currently, U.2 goes upto 15TB if you can stomach the cost. Right now you can get 4TB intel drives for around £600 on Ebay. The cost of the drives and lack of manufacturers making them are probably the other factors stopping adoption

  • @RichardServello
    @RichardServello 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK, I think I made a good choice. I already had the Aorus Master ordered...but I canceled it to get this one. I plan on having at least 2 gpus...maybe 3...and a nvme raid card. Plus it adds 10gbe so no need to waste pci port on that card.

    Any compact case for 4 GPU setup suggesstions? Cerberus X is the only one I found, but seems to be too small not to have problems.

  • @bryantallen703

    Memory scales up past 3200MHz with TR3 because it uses a wider IO and memory controller. The IF doesn't effect memory. So limiting ram to 3600MHz can be a waste of memory bandwidth. I seen memory bandwidth hit 115GB/s with 4266MHz dimms.

    Are you sure the board fan is meant to blow on the heat sync? Usually a fan like that is to help dissipate heat.

    With no over-clocking, if I populate this with 4 blower GPUS, out of the box, are the heat, mosfet and chipset noises still a concern?

      No, the gpu fans are going to be dominant noise creators.
