- There might not be many reasons to downgrade Windows Pro to Home but for the few instances when its necessary it would be nice if it could be done without reloading and loosing your data and programs. That's what I'm showing you how to do today. We will download a Windows 11 Pro machine to Windows 11 Home without loosing data.

Happy Monday - You always come up with the most useful fixes - Thank You!
Worked great! I had to do this as when I got my computer I assumed I would want Windows 11 PRO but months later when I finally bought my code it was Home as it was much cheaper. So this helped out a ton, thanks!
I started out at a Big Box store at some point, and noticed policies required a fresh install of Windows on some hardware that made it's way into the store. I have used a similar method to this with ISO's in the past, and I'm glad to see that they still work. Keep up the great content for everyone. We all need the helpful steps you provide in these videos!😊
I just found your channel recently and I have to say I am loving your videos! Very informative! I have a suggestion for a video. Since you've been repairing computers for so long I would be curious to see a video about all the software that you think a computer technician should have. Also, all of the tools you think they should always carry. Keep your videos coming! Cheers!
I want to thank you for doing these videos - your service has been a tremendous help and I have learned so much. You are doing a tremendous service to us.
Thanks! this helps so much. I bought a HOME version of windows, but my PC already had PRO on it. This video helped me a lot
Thanks for the Video man! I bought a new surface pro 8 and it came with windows 10 pro installed but only had a home licence (no idea why...).
Finding out how to change that was a pain in the a**, so your video helped alot.
Finally another video! Love your vids keep up the good work bud!
My hero, was about to buy a new (PRO) product key because I couldn't find any solution at first sight to downgrade to Windows Home. Thankfully I found your video right in time.
Worked perfectly! for me as I don't need Windows Pro. Thank you! Bro 👍
Keep going, you're awesome 👍
Loved your video... I totally agree about being self employed... I've been successfully self employed in IT and all I would say to anyone considering it, is get started and be honest with yourself with the difference between what you know and what you speculate... You don't have to start with enterprise level experience jobs, just start with home users and gradually increase from there...
There is definitely a huge market out there....
One more thing, take the time to give yourself a way to undo anything you're about to do.. (grab a backup first or work on a copy of the data)
Worked, thank you so much
I have a fresh install of Windows 11 on my computer, which is how it shipped originally. It also says Windows 10 in the Registry. Likely because the NT version didn't actually change. If you look at command prompt, it still says windows 10.0.version.
worked excellently for windows 10! thanks a ton
Thank you for testimonials.
Worked a charm 👍👍
Nice job. I do it too with Windows 7 but I changed another two the buildnumbers too.. But it was only a test for me and a VM is for tthat great. I like it and this is much easier as I do in Windows 7. Stay tuned.
Choosing the wrong edition of Windows is pretty common in the corporate world as well; most admins want to install the "better" edition; and that even extends into the Server side as well, when an admin loads Datacenter edition instead of Standard. Many just won't ask because it would infer that they didn't know...
Hmm….Interesting.
I’ve always wondered if there was any benefit to downgrading from Pro to Home. Unless it was a licensing issue,I’ve always pushed Pro no matter the user.
Thanks for the vid!
My computer was having only home licence but i dont know how it was running 11 pro , but today it suddenly asked me to activate windows which was already active 😅, after some troubleshoot it said that i have only home licence, this video really saved me today. Thank you for your work sir.
Imp point: Update really takes so much time
Hey, i have same issue with you did the method work at the end? did it remove all your data in your pc?
@@monke5415 it worked and didn't removed any data
I actually used your method to upgrade my home single language to enterprises and surprisingly it worked but my OEM licence was not recognisable by windows
You saved me a lot of time in many ways! Thank you for the amazing way to explain easy and effective all the procedure! Works great and beautiful. Great job!.
You are better off creating a second portion and doing a clean install of Windows Home there for testing purposes. You can make a video about this! Thanks for uploading. Have fun.
My lapto is window 10 Home digital license, i installed windows 10 pro then window not activated, bought products key still not working.
I don't to to reinstall win10 home. Will this downgrade work ?
I've always used the Home Edition and added the GPedit and Lusmgr enablers and all has gone very well so far, same with my Win 10 installs. I've felt the Pro editions were for business and I'm a gamer. Anyways, great vid, I really like the work-arounds 👍
Any insight on the advantages of using GPedit and Lusmgr???
@@manuelrivera6778 They just allow making adjustments a lot easier. Why they were dropped from both the 10 & 11 Home Editions makes no sense to me...
Enterprise is for business.
Home is for the elderly.
Pro is the normal version
Do you keep your files if you do this?
Have you tried playing around with generic keys? While disconnected from the internet up and downgrades is possible, with successfull activation with applicable keys afterwards.
Hey everyone! I have my Rufus drive all set up to upgrade from 10 to 11 on my unsupported CPU, already did it for a fresh install on an old laptop, so I'm curious about the risks involved with upgrading to 11. Should I just wait to upgrade until it's absolutely necessary or are there not very many risks in upgrading?
Bro many many thanks, you just saved my asss today
When you do this "in place install" does it remove all the files that comes with Windows Pro, like Bitlocker? I get the feeling leaves remints behind, but if it leaves a .OLD file from the previous windows, then you can just nuke that and you're good.
Oh as for people who work for geek squad, they are often restricted on what they can do when dealing with customer's computers. Mostly to cover their asses, so they adopt archaic and simple procedures depending on the problem, and they tend to use them for FAR too long.. long after proper solutions and fixes have been made by vendors, or even by Microsoft.
How can you change the Windows 7 boot screen ?
I used to work for a bank and the boot screen didn't say Windows 7, it had the banks name and the login and password boxes and it had a message display after login that said the machine was property of the bank.
Then the normal desktop would appear
I would really like to know how they changed the boot screen and put in their own jpg or background and how they put in the box with their message after login before the desktop came up.

After installing windows 11 home, then The upgrade to pro. the fingerprint did not working any more. I try many Drivers, Then i back to the orginal drivers, did not worcking2, because the orginal driver Max until windows 10 Pro version come with..so have a tips for me please,
many thanks in advance ,
with best of regards from Germany
One thing I would really love is a valid instruction set for transitioning an existing windows installation onto a hardware encrypted bit locker disk. Pretty much every source I have seen claims that either it would be very difficult, or essentially it's impossible, and I can't imagine why there isn't a method to do that. I would really love to have that available.
My computer says secure boot is unsupported and I have a asus mother board what do I do??
What if one made the same registry changes but in the other direction - from Home to Pro?... Same trick? Thx.
I used to be the Fresh Install to fix it kinda tech haha, but now, I liek to fix it when i can. The only time I will do a fresh install is if it is a very infected system. I find it better too wipe it and not chase infections for days on end lol
How do I upgrade Office 365 Enterprise users from Windows 10 pro to Windows 11 Enterprise without re-imaging?
Hi, I'm following you with pleasure and if someone wants to update from home, can a professional do it with this method?, thanks, regards
How do i know if my OS is English United States or International? 😭
how do i know what version of english my windows is?
Hey man nice video and can u help with a issue pls
So i have acer aspire 7 a715-75g with i5 10300h and 1650. Because of window corruption of windows while rolling back to windows 10 i had to clean install windows 10.before i clean install windows 10 my boot up time was around 1 sec and most of the times my acer logo appears without loading icon and boots up indicating how fast it was but since i clean install windows it boot time is 20 seconds idk why that loading logo rotates around 4 times while before it barely completed one rotation pls help
how about listing what you did in writing on your site.
at work i don't like new windows installs either
so when we get a new computer i transition old windows install to new harddrive with all programs installed but what i discovered recently it works even with moving windows 10 from old pc to new windows 11 computer if the licence type match they even activate 10 with 11 key
your fixes are always nice hacks though i might incorporate some in my workflow
Yes, Windows 10 and 11 use the same keys. I do the same as you for customers computers. It's a lot more convenient for my customers and for me setting it up to just image the old OS to the new computer. The only time it gets complicated is when imaging an MBR partition to a system that only boots UEFI. However, mbr2gpt can typically fix that but it makes a little bit more complicated. Especially if Windows doesn't already come with the storage controller drivers installed.
This scenario might be rare but this is exactly what I needed. I installed windows 11 pro but accidentally bought a windows 11 home licensing key.
Can you talk about windows 10 pro defragger and why it will not defrag system files. Thanks
The reason you cannot use the Pro Key to activate the Home version is because all of the Pro version contents are still in Home they are just dormant. The Pro version key just unlocks that additional functionality. There for if you have the Pro version you already have the Home version just with all the features unlocked.
I did everything step by step, but the installer still said "Installing Windows 11 Pro@ :(((
What happens if your drive is encrypted with bitlocker since home doesnt come with bitlocker?
Not sure. Didn't try it. I would highly recommend unencrypting it first.
Hello. No matter which usb storage I connect to my computer, I get a message
(It's an error) And win11 gives you the option to scan and fix the problem.
The problem is that this also happens with newly formatted external USB 2 hard drives. Also usb2 memory pen.
Always when windows tries to scan and repair the disk, CMD (scandisk /f e:) it always says at the end that it failed and could not repair. During this process things on the disk were deleted and other things were done. Some of the content is now more damaged than before!
On a usb hdd disk, I formatted with full format and afterwards I did a full sector scan without any errors. After copying a few files, win 11 started complaining. Why?
One of the explanations is that it is windows.
I have experienced this with 4 USB HDDs and several USB sticks
Did not work for me. I changed the keys but when I run the setup it says install windows pro again 😢
Was this fixed?
I understand that it's better to "fix" an issue rather than do a clean install, but I find as apart of preventative maintenance to do annual clean installs of my OS like spring cleaning your home that I run into fewer problems with my PCs. I do it not to fix an issue, since often you have data you need to save/recover. I do it to keep things tidy and prevent issues from occurring, since installing/uninstalling apps and using "cleaners" or other apps that supposedly "clean" or boost performance really really don't actually do that, compared to a clean install of your OS.
This is what sfc and dism is for
@@comicalhexical no that only deals with windows system files, not the junk data left over after months or years of installing/uninstalling games and apps that aren't apart of windows it self.
Uninstall will not remove files created by the user from the game or app, such as game saves, configs, mods, since it's considered user-made and isn't included in the uninstall manifest to be deleted.
@@fragalot if you're installing/uninstalling tons of apps in the year then you have an issue of storage space and your time would be better suited buying a bigger drive. There's no reason for you to be installing all these apps if you're just going to be uninstalling them in the future.
@@comicalhexical When why does the "uninstall" option even exist in the first place? It's not about storage. There's no point in leaving games and apps installed if I'm done playing them, or I find an alternative app or just don't need it anymore.
I built my own NAS for long-term storage, and I have about 2TB of space on my main PC. Even if I did get a "bigger drive" I'd still have reinstall windows on it and all my other stuff.
There's PLENTY of reasons to do clean installs on some sort of regular basis since it will eventually bog it self down since Uninstallers don't get everything, and always something gets corrupted, slows down, or just doesn't run properly.
You can use your computer however you like, and I'll use mine how I like, there's no wrong or improper way of using it.
Why don’t you Create a “ei.cfg” file containing the following text:
[EditionID]

[Channel]

In the \Sources folder
Thank you for genuine Key. Bought one.
Interesting that they require you to buy another key if you switch from pro to home.
Could you technically trick Windows 11 Home into installing Windows 11 Pro with the same method?
This is what i thought.
Mine didn't work 😭😅 still says pro..
I managed to activate win pro with a windows home key linked to my microsoft account.
Did the regedit stuff and then activated it.
Still activated 2 days later after several reboots :o
So, if I have a PC with Windows 11 Home, and I want to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro, can I purchase a Windows 10 Pro key (it’s cheaper than a Windows 11 Pro key), use that key as my new product key, and upgrade without losing any data or installed programs?
Windows 11 shows as Windows 10 in the product name for compatibility with installed software.
Win10 was supposedly the last version of Windows until MS came up with Win11, so developers checked for Windows 10 and didn't need new versions to check for Windows 11.
Even a clean install of Windows 11 will show as Windows 10.
To check the version, you can use the build number under the same key
Windows 11 was built on Windows 10. Early builds of Windows 11 were actually Windows 10 Insider Previews
mine still says install windows 10 pro i need home back :(
Did you get it to work?
You said your reasons for wanting to downgrade to Home is not being able to determine if a PC you're working on is activated for Pro or Home since it won't boot. I'm sure there are tools that let you figure this out. Isn't there a command line that you can use that tells you that info? What about booting off Hiren CD, or windows install media, run REGEDIT, then load the registry from the windows drive, and look in that same path you went into at 6:00 and just see what it is. Wouldn't that work, assuming the boot drive was still READABLE, just not bootable?
isnt 'downgrading' by doing a fresh install with Win Home the same as just throwing away your Pro install? You will have to buy the Home product key before installing...
Its not working for me. All the time its the pro version getting installed
Did you get it to work?
PLS HELP ME IT STIL SAYS INSTALL WINDOWS 11 PRO PLS HELP!!!!!!!!
Can u do bios tweaks
I have a ryzen 5 5600 like you! but i have the X series one
The best use case for this is when Microsoft multi-edition installs Windows Professional without giving you a choice (because of a Lenovo keystore embedded on a laptop you bought secondhand) but you only have a Windows 11 Home key so you roll it back so they activation key you bought on the gray market works. I mean, that's *probably* the scenario when it's needed. lol
Not sure I understand the why. Windows 11 is the same as Windows 10. Like lipstick on a pig, and the only difference I notice in home or pro is the addition of bitlocker being able to be used in pro. I have the opposite problem. Whenever I have to reinstall my main P.C. and want pro, which I have, it defaults to home and I usually don't catch it until it's all installed, so I have to waste more time modifying the "Sources" folder. Otherwise, it doesn't ask me, and I am usually half conscious, as my normal state... Always some ferkakta mishigas I have to do.
But great video anyway. Even if I don't understand why. Wondering if it works the other way. Like having home, when wanting pro and not wanting to do another total reinstall, IF not remembering to modify the "Sources" from the install files.
Also, that "Update" is malarkey. And it takes a lot of time even when there's no connection to the Internet. Another thing I will change in Windows when I rise to power.
I'll keep pro, but this is helpful, thank you.
Believe it or not I had a customer about a year ago that wanted to do that. I have no idea why!?
i have a licence for home but i have rpo downloaded
So when we took the "free upgrade" to Windows 10 it had an expiration date attached to the generic product key? There's no going back to Windows 7, and this PC is too ancient for Windows 11. The problem is it locked me out of my network controls. I'm connected to...something, but it's fickle and microsoft is vague about what they expect me to do to continue using my PC long enough to research what I need to upgrade. It's like corporate ransomware. Might as well just give us a popup paywall so it's not such a headache to figure out. I called at least three scammers before I got actual Microsoft support. I might've paid to avoid the day I've had today...now I'm looking at just getting a Macintosh.
Hello just wanted to say once more thank you. I am the niche case you speak of. I just built a new pc for myself and gave my wife my hand me downs (r7 3700x and rtx 3060) so she could game with me...problem was I wanted to just swap her ssd from her old system to mine. Her system has W11 pro on it and my old one has W11 home. Hopefully this will work out the kinks in the licensing, i will report back tomorrow when I finish building the pc.
Okay a little late but I'm back. The lost office took forever to deliver the last parts I needed. Anyway I built the pc, put the SSD in and of course it said the windows versions werent the same so it wasnt active. I followed the video but for some reason it said the tpm was off even though its been a W11 pc since birth basically and i never turned off or even reset the bios . SO what I did instead of reverting all the changes in the registry editor, i used the setupprep.exe /product server install method from a previous video of yours and wah lah it installed, it restarted and sure as shit i open up the activation screen and it says Windows 11 Home is Activated! Thank you so much this truly helped! I didnt want to fresh install lol
Changing a home product key to pro will NOT always work! Depends on the type of product key.
Seems silly to me. Pro has a load of extra features that improve your security. Namely bitlocker which I have applied to all drives. Full disk encryption. No noticeable performance impact either.
I like your shirt!!! LOL
Wanna downgrade W11 to W10 without loosing Data. Reason TPM restrictions in Future Games / Software when W11 TPM bypassed installation. Maybe the same way, i will test it.
It's not a clean install but still you are replacing all system files from iso so I would still name it as reinstall - well, dirty reinstall.
All others watching the content I'm watching your T shirt with fart when people hug you
"You have to start somewhere." Hilarious!!!
DOES NOT WORK ! Try win10 ISO, try win11ISO FROM INSIDE WIN. ... checked reg over and over again... log in as ADMIN ? anuone ?
This didn't work for me, sadly. I did a complete hardware upgrade. Lost my key. Bought a 11 Home key. Downloaded the provided assistant. Got 11 Pro. Can't use my key. and now the ico setup says "Configuration sets are only supported when Windows installation is started from Windows PE."
Seems like I have to do a complete reinstall.
Edit: I will try Safe-Mode.
Edit 2: It did not work.
did you get it to work?
@@DanielHunter-dh4nq Negative. File Explorer kept crashing. Booting from an USB I couldn't get it to install while keeping all data and system settings, so I ended up having to do a clean install and wipe everything off my Sys disk, because the setup wizard could not "upgrade" the current OS.
I installed Pro, my sticker is home. I had pro running perfect, microsoft just turned it into home again without even asking.
👍👍
Finnish mentioned in this video! (sry finns like when someone not finnish person mentions finland xD)
The reason that it says Windows 10 is because the kernel is the Windows 10 kernel. Windows 11 is just a rebrand of Windows 10 after the system requirements changed. Windows "12" will also be a rebrand of Windows 10. They built the kernel in such a way that they can just add to it instead of starting from scratch every time. The last guy in charge who just left decided to name it Windows 11 in a misguided attempt to reverse course. The new head is already rolling things back but is now stuck with the Windows 11 moniker.
Well, the answer is yes, yes I have. And it is easy.
You peeked my curiosity. When I built my computer, I installed Windows 11 Pro from scratch. It's never had any other operating system on it. When I go into the registry, it is identified as Windows 10 Pro......... Go figure.
I got the bsod mid download fml.
no not really, i prefer the pro version. just my opinion.
When you buy a new PC it usually comes with Home.
Whyever would I want to do this? What on earth is the benefit?
I had to open the video cause of the title. I can't think of any good reason to get home version 😮
@@jothainI had the Home Version for ages, but upgraded to Pro last year. I mean, it isn't that everything became fantastic for me - but, why oh why, would I want to go back to Home?!! I agree, I can't think of any good reason for this at all. And since the digital license follows my Microsoft Account, I would have thought that if I did need a computer repair, that it ought to be possible to reinstall Pro using it. Anyhow, I'll have to cross that bridge if it happens.
did bro just forget sometimes when repairing os ppl jus install pro instead of the win11 home it came with?
and when you have the win11 home edition license key its going be pretty hard
@@tf2womanmeme what? When you have bought the license, it stays digitally on your Microsoft Account. So as long as you're not reinstalling or repairing the installation on a new machine, you will simply reactivate that - or ring Microsoft. There shouldn't be a problem here.
@organisten except when i try to login with my ms account it doesnt activate
instead it says that there is a windows 11 home key on the drive
Why would you or anybody actually want to downgrade to a Home version? You mentioned, I believe that you had to for a vid - for some reason not mentioned. I simply can't imagine why anyone would actually want to. Help me out here. Help me Cyber, help help me Cyber🤣Old tune
Why would you downgrade to home..? No seriously.
Because not everyone is rich like you...
Did you watch the video? He gave many reasons.
