    I just bought a 2005 RX330 from a friend for $1000. It has over 320,000 miles and runs great. Got it to be a work vehicle, but I'm shocked how nice it is and how well it shifts.

      @@blockmasterscott I just replaced the original alternator at 323,000 miles and recharged the AC. The engine had a slight oil leak when I got it, but other than that, this is a great vehicle. If you maintain it regularly, it should last a long time.

      I just got my parents 2005 RX 330 with 175K miles on it, they just replaced this baby with a brand new NX. It has been in the family since we got back from the Dealer in 2005 when i graduated highschool! Your 320k miles reference really puts me at ease that I will be more than okay for at least 2 years! My daily driver since 2018 is a 2002 RX300. Today it has 84K miles on it. My Mom bought it new and paid around 30K for it. She last drove it in 2016. When I picked it up in Florida it had 41K miles and I had to replace the battery. Last year I went to start it and nothing. I ended up replacing the engine computer PCM/ECU for $900. Oil changes a couple of bulbs and wiper blades and that's it for maintenance. The Michelin tires still have good tread and brake pads still good ( not sure when she replaced them). So around $1,500 in maintenance and repairs. I intend to replace timing belt and all recommended 100K checklist @ 90K. I guess I love it because it was Mom's but I surmise that I'd still appreciate it's value.

      Very smart of you. We always had car payments until a few years ago, got rid of them and paid cash for a couple very old Toyotas. Took an adjustment period but now, I love love love not having a car payment and we have saved like we have never saved before. Credit cards paid off and maxing out our 401ks. It’s just a great feeling. We baby those old cars, spotlessly clean and always washed makes you feel good about them.

    • @raymondcaylor6292
      @raymondcaylor6292 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very wise. Many never understand the value of saving and you've figured it out logically. For me it was through frustration. In 1985 I bought new a Peugeot 505 Turbo and it was a money pit. I was paying thousands for repairs on top of a car payment. In 1989 I decided to never have a car payment again and I haven't. I bought vehicles for myself, my wife, and all three of my children always paying cash. Maybe you've already bought a home since this post is a year old but even if you haven't yet, you will, and you'll be fine.

    I bought my very well taken care of 2004 rx330 at 173,000 miles in July 2019 and today its 3 years later and I just hit 221,000 and still haven’t had any major repairs. Currently in the waiting room of my local shop while she gets an oil change, which I brought my own Mobile One full synthetic oil and Mobile One oil filter for. She’s still running strong, check engine light for catalytic converter always goes on and off but it’s irrelevant bc it’s pre 2006 emissions standards and purely a superficial warning light.
    I want to make it last as long as possible but thinking of listing it for sale online for a high price of $8k and if someone happens to bite I’d sell! 🤞🏼

    • @michaelwoyahn2238
      @michaelwoyahn2238  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would guess that a belt is squeaking. Most likely the serpentine belt, but it could possibly be the timing belt as well. It might be a bearing in something the belt is turning that is making it screech. You likely can drive it for awhile as is, but I wouldn't wait too long to get it checked out. If it is the belt, it might wear down and break eventually.

      It is getting up there in miles, but if it’s had a good service history I think you could get a good amount of life out of it! Just expect to put some money into it. We replaced the catalytic converter in this car at around 245k and we had to do smaller repairs after that. So if you don’t expect it to be perfect and are willing to put some money into repairs, it still can be a pretty solid car overall!

    • @michaelwoyahn2238
      @michaelwoyahn2238  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ali Zougheib If it’s an RX330, check that the timing belt has been done. If it hasn’t been done yet, I’d recommend getting it replaced since they’re supposed to be done ever 90,000 miles. Otherwise, I think the main problem areas tend to be radiators and power steering issues.
      The power steering on both the RX330 and RX350 tend to end up leaking, and it can be expensive to fix if the whole rack needs to be replaced. Sometimes you get lucky and the lines can be replaced, which I was able to do with my car for only $200ish. Radiators can be pretty cheap if you are okay with a non-OEM part! But I think those are the main problem areas with these cars, and those tend to be issues that don’t have to be instantly addressed (they start as smaller leaks).
      Of course, it’s possible to still have other issues and depending on the year, the seals are probably getting older so there might still be some leaks, but those are the main problem areas. Overall I think these cars are very solid, though!

    PLEASE EXCUSE THE CAPS, I JUST CAN'T SEE THE SMALL LETTERS 🙂
    BUT, I HAVE A QUESTION PLEASE, I HAVE A 2008 RX 350 THE OTHER DAY I BARELY DODGED A CAR HITTING ME, I HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES AND THE SYSTEM SAID SOMETHING, SOMETHING, SOMETHING, IS "DISENGAGED" I ONLY CAUGHT THAT PART THROUGH THE EXCITEMENT, I DIDN'T GET IT, CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THAT WAS, I DIDN'T HEAR IT CLEARLY!! I HOPE THIS IS NOT A STUPID QUESTION.

      I’ve actually never heard my car give an audible warning/status update so I’m not quite sure what that was! I do know these cars have emergency brake assist that will give fully braking in a “panic brake” situation, so it may have something to do with that. However, I think I’ve had it engage a couple of times and it has never verbally said anything. Might be an aftermarket add on like Bluetooth or something?

    I’m curious how much all of these repairs have cost you and how frequently you’ve had to make repairs. I have a 2007 RX 350 with only 77,000 miles on it. I’ve had one problem after the other for quite some time and it’s getting very expensive. Replacing all TPMS monitors was $553 dollars. A few days later I lost my alternator and that was $882 at a local mom and pop garage. Then three days after that my AC compressor died and that was another $1318. I’m not sure mine will ever make it to the mileage you’ve gotten to let alone 300,000 miles. I go to my Lexus dealer every 5000 miles for it’s routine service-so much for Lexus reliability. I just want to know what to expect as I continue to own it and how much more it’s going to cost.

      2007 is the new model year for the RX and ES. It had more issues than the 2006. Never buy a brand new car on the first model revamp year.

      @inosurrender8327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if u still have it but I will say all of the problems w the car you mentioned luckily are not engine related problems. Sure they’re expensive but it’s not something as bad as a check engine light. Just tire tpms and battery replacements

    • @JC-jj5tg
      @JC-jj5tg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@inosurrender8327 Yes, I do still have my 2007 RX 350. It now has 90,700 miles. Since a year ago when I left the comment you just replied to, I'm happy to say I've not had a single issue except for the rear power gate not working properly in very cold weather...not a big deal....but no, nothing else. However, When you say at least it's not engine-related problems, I can't say I've seen any car from any brand in the last 20 years that has any serious engine problems or failures...not unless it's sheer neglect. When I was growing up in the 70's and 80's, rarely ever did any car get past 100,000 miles. That changed dramatically in the 90's and 2000's and now we rarely if ever hear of engine failure. With that, I don't have any qualms about my engine continuing to run without issue; my concern is how far and hot long will I be able to drive my car before all of these other things cost me a fortune--electrical, emission, power items, etc. I now need pads and rotors and got quotes $1000 for the job when on a different car that might be around $400 max. Those are the kinds of things driving me nuts about my Lexus...nothing is cheap.
