Excellent explanation. Just the right level of detail and the tips and tricks were very helpful. Saved me about $575 compared to going to the Lexus dealer. Thank you.
The side aluminum bracket with 2 studs and 2 bolts CAN be slipped out over the studs ...very close and pushing the AC aluminum line over a bit on the fender well helps. Then studs can be broken loose using an external #8 torx socket in combination with vice grips on the non threaded portion of the stud. The timing mark for the crank is located on the toothed backing plate of the crank gear....NOT the crank gear itself (confusing in the first part of the video). The drilled mark on the crank gear face is for the timing belt mark. I found it helpful to put some whiteout on the edge of the belt at the yellow marks for the cams and crank. A mirror and flashlight used from the fender well was the best way to determine alignment of all cover, pully and belt marks on the rear cam.....view must be parallel to the pully face or the angle of view makes the marks appear unaligned. Tighten the tensioner pully with a pry bar and tiedown bungee and check the alignment marks on cams and crank with belt one more time before popping the tensioner pin. Glad I did. On disassembly, remove the tensioner before removing the idler pully....otherwise rear cam will be pulled out of place.
Excellent information. I've owned my 06 Lexus RX330 for 10 years and I want to change my timing belt. I never knew that no 13mm, 15mm, 17mm or 19mm are used.
I'm a retired mechanic and Automotive Tutor. I'm really impressed with your methodical approach, I'd feel a lot more confident to do it, even though the old bones are not what they were. Whatever you do, do not shortcut the job by replacing the belt only.
Super video Sir! Thank you very much. We have learned this skills that you have spent time practicing in only minutes. You make this difficult job look easy, and anyone following your lesson can do this. Thank you especially for warning about the 10mm bolts that hold the water pump. Stripping those threads could be a real problem maybe. As an engineer by trade? I tip my hat to your extensive mechanical skills!
@15:30 "You cannot take this pump out and you cannot understand what's going on." HAHA!! My exact feeling when I did this for the first time. Just as much trouble getting the WP gasket out too. Do this trick and they will slide right out of there. Great video.

Thanks so much for this video. I have a 2004 Lexus ES330 3.3L V6, which has the same engine and is basically the same procedure. Note: in the Lexus you don't have to remove the water pump stud to get it out.
This is a great video. I just replaced the power steering belt. It took me four hours(OMG). I spent an hour turning the adjuster in the wrong direction, doh. I'm looking at this video thinking it probably took you about 5 hours, am I close? I bought the car with 125 K on it. I think it's the original belt. What kit did you buy that had everything in it. Thank you
Great video. Thanks for sharing. What’s the average charge for parts & labor to replace timing belt & water pump? What brand timing belt & water pump do you recommend after market parts?
Yup, that's how you do that. Nice job. Now you should make a video showing people how to fix the power windows after they disconnected the battery and why it is idling strangely until the computer relearns everything. Also make really sure that you top off the radiator.
I used an old sears electric 1/2 inch impact to remove that 22m bolt. The trick was to use a heavy duty socket such as a Lisle 77110 socket , or similar, found on Amazon. These sockets are very heavy.
At 9:24 - on my 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, there is also no room to jiggle out the side bracket and the E8 studs must be removed, however my studs are super tight and I can feel the E8 socket starting to strip the head. Do you next use a stud extractor or heat the stud with a torch? This is my very first timing belt change so it's both fun and terrifying.
Thank you for your detailed video. With your step by step tips, it surely will help me when changing my timing belt. Any tips for replacing the spark plugs for this car? The back three spark plugs are hard to get.
Thank you for the great video. I have a question though, as I was looping the belt around the back cam gear, it jumped off the mark. I reset it, I thought but after rotating the engine a few times by hand the marks no longer match the gear marks.
Hello! I liked this video so much and decided to work on my 2005 lexus rx330. I changed camshaft & crankshaft seals, water pump, timing belt. the problem I have now is the error code p0016 and I cleared at least 5 times but, it came back after the engine runs for few minutes. Engine run fine. not shaking, rocking, or knocking. But not sure what is the problem and how to solve it. please advise.
Is this an interference engine? I'm getting mixed answers online. My wife's lexus rx330 broke the timing belt and I'm trying to decide if I should install a new belt or look into getting a replacement engine
No one shows here that it is easier to put the belt if you install the tensioner pulley last after aligning all the belt marks. I figured it myself but at the cost of significant time.
Спасибо:) И лайк я поставил:) Но смотреть со звуком не смог..:) Раньше я думал что это у меня прононсиэшин полный пипец:)) Теперь я в себе значительно более уверен;))
@@fixcaryourself414 WOW, wish I had a timing chain. How long is a new timing belt good for until a replacement? I's guessing 100,000 miles or 10 years whichever comes first.
Very detailed, step by step video. After watching your video, I confidently drove to my mechanic for him to do it.
🤣
I could listen to this guy’s narrative all day. So clear and concise for an ESL speaker.
Excellent detail - after watching this I've decided to take it to a mechanic. :)

how much did it cost you
lol
Guess I don't have to watch this after seeing this. Time better spent elsewhere, gotcha!

One of the best informational videos I've seen for repairing your car. Take a bow! Well done. Thank you. Off to tackle the job on my own.

If the crank gear timing mark is at 12 o'clock position, then how do you line up the mark on the new belt?
Just finished mine, thank you!!
To remove transfer case on that same rx330 ,do I need to take engine & transmission out ?
