  • After 3 years of Porsche Cayenne ownership, it's time to move on to a more reliable, easy to maintain car. In this video, I'll review my new-to-me, 2004 Lexus RX 330 that I purchased for just $6100. Despite being 17 years old and having 150,000 miles, it still drives great and has a long life ahead of it. To learn about why I decided to buy a Lexus, check out this article ecarguides.com/dont-buy-a-por.... For more videos, check out the description below.

I have one of these I'm in Arizona it has 216 thousand miles. It has no leaks and runs fantastic. A very high-quality vehicle that came off a Japanese assembly line and uses absolutely the best parts. You should not need to replace those rotors just put the dealer recommended pads on there which there probably organic. I have a 4Runner with 310k miles. Orig rotors...organic oem brake pads

My parents gave me their 2008 RX350 in 2011. It had all of 5,000 miles on the odo. Today it has 110,000. Every part on this vehicle is factory original, except for tires, battery, fluids, filters, wipers, a couple lightbulbs and the steering rack, replaced some years ago. That $600 repair is the only one the vehicle has had since new. Even the brake pads are still the originals. Nothing else has broken. There are no cracks in the dash. Zero rust, anywhere. I can thank my late father for one of the smartest car purchases ever.

This is my same car, I have owned the 2004 Lexus RX 330 for about eight years. I lived in Washington DC, and drove that car to Connecticut, Manhattan, Cleveland, Miami, multiple times. I am a single woman and I would drive alone all hours of the night and I’ve never had a breakdown or any engine problem. I bought the car used from a single owner with about 44,000 miles on it. I am at about 145,000 miles now. The repairs I’ve had to do were basically my own fault. A valet in MIAMI drove the car on a completely flat tire and it bent the axle so I had to get the axle replaced and that cost me about $1900. About two years later I was running the AC with the car stationary on my lunch breaks in 90° temperatures all summer. These comfortable work lunch breaks ended up blowing up my radiator and that cost about $2000 to replace. Because the car spent its previous life in Ohio and then I kept it in snow we conditions in DC the undercarriage was rusted and so when I had to change all the rear brakes calipers rotors pumps and everything that ended up being almost a $2000 brake job. The good thing is the tires are really affordable. Only mention that because I’ve had friends complained that their tires are $200 bucks or more and I’m like what my tires are always like $90 or $110. Didn’t even know that tires could cost as much as $300. I’ve always used regular gasoline never used premium. I’ve never really dealt with the Lexus dealerships I get the oil changed at Jiffy Lube and random oil places and I’ve never had an engine problem The problem with Lexus from the 00s is just the sunroof. TH-cam Canik Scotty Kilmer explains in great detail how the drains from the sunroof are over engineered and they can get clogged up and run water into your floorboards. That happened with my previous Lexus car the ES 300 and it happened with my RX 330. Multiple times friends and family tried to clear out the sunroof drains but it turns out the sunroof drains actually are separated in a spot near the floorboard so you actually need a Lexus dealership to do it correctly. That engine is bulletproof, the leather on the driver seat will start to break down way before the actual engine ever will LOL

I have an O2 RX 300, love the car! I just got done putting the timing B and the regular 80,000 mile which is now 160 maintenance. About broke my heart today I was getting on the freeway and stuck in second gear refusing to shift on freeway entry so ended up doing six grand RPM until I was able to get off the road but then it ships out just fine, I think I’m gonna have to put it in for sale… Oh well

There is nothing the lexus dealership can do to the sunroof drain problem that you can't do yourself. The issue is with understanding what happens to make the drainage water spill into the front cabin compartment.
The drain tubes end above the floor pan level inside the front pillars. With a RH drive vehicle, if you pull up the door liner and then the lowest front piller cover, you will see the water escape hole which, if the lowest drain off section is clogged, will let the water into the front sections of the car.
This happened to me. The fix is to get some semi flexible plastic coated clothes line or similar and push it into this drain off hole. Any mud or debris build up will eventually clog the drain holes in the lowest section of the front pillars. Pushing the semi flexible wire into the pillars will clean the build up inside the drain off section. If you want to see exactly where the hole is, check out "the swiss army knifes" channel. He has some great video on this.
There are 2 issues here with clogging. Either the drain tubes clog, in which case the sun roof will leak directly from the roof section itself. Hopefully one of these tubes don't clog, just the other one ! And the second issue is not the tube clogging, but the lower pillar drain-off, which I've described here.
If you end up with the floor liner soaked, just rip off the lower fibre insert which is glued to the bottom of the main mat. This is just cheap, something like carpet underlay stuff. It's hard to dry and will keep your main carpet wet longer than if it was'nt attached to the carpet. Replace with carpet underlay section.

If I were you I’d find a good independent shop for your maintenance including oil changes. Don’t go to jiffy or quick lube places unless you want to end up with major issues down the stretch as those *techs* have little to no real qualifications to work on your car. I’ve literally seen them forget to add oil into an engine and run it dry during an oil change, only to realize the guy in the bay below forgot to put the drain plug back on. Only reason the engine didn’t blow is it was an old Mercedes’ diesel.

I just recently got a 2005 RX 330 from my parents! Purchased brand new from the dealer and passed on to me with 170k+ miles on it. Had some cosmetic dings, scratches, and bumper falling off repaired. Inner dash is cracked from being parked outside in the sweltering NYC hot summer days. Timing belt, wheel bearing, spark plugs, battery, broken rear tail light and break pads replaced. Added a lightbar at the bottom of the front bumper so i can get a better field of view at night. Washed out the radiator for poor ac flow. My car shop guy says there is still a lot more life left in this car and i am so happy and grateful to be on this journey with this car. I have so much memories since high school with this car and now i get to experience driving it in my 30s!

Check with Lexus, they did a recall campaign and replaced my dashboard for FREE. Looking at this video reminded me so much of my car. Same color. You will get another 100K miles out of it.

It’s funny because that same trim piece fell off mine and the hood won’t stay open. I do have a small oil leak and the shocks need to be replaced badly but I might just drive it into the ground. I used to have one (same year and model) and i terribly miss it, but it started having a minor transmission issue so I had to sell it before it got worse... but the ride quality and comfort exceeded my expectations... the features it had was ahead of its time compare to other competitors in this segment.. great value for the price these days!!.. one thing to note.. the timing that comes with the 04-06 is BELT which would have to replaced every 60 - 75k or so... you want a timing CHAIN which i believe starts from 07 and up.. not sure about 330s but all 350s have them from 07 and up. if you see one under 110k miles for around $5-6K.. TAKE IT!

It's a great purchase dude. I see why RX has been so popular over the years. So many neat features for the age of the car and quality is also great. I love my Porsche but I always think if I am going to have a major repair in the future on back of my mind. Actually, after I got my Tesla, I wished I kept that 450h, so I traded my Highlander in for it. The market has plenty of 450h cars with upwards of 250k miles and all the models I have driven were mechanically sound. The classic shape is timeless. I actually prefer it to our Tesla Y especially for trips into snow country when road conditions may require routing to areas with few gas stations let alone superchargers.

I was thinking about buying one of these cars in the future if I can save enough. Not since I really have a need for the space or a family yet, but I love its smooth and quiet ride and awesome leather seats. My current car is a 2012 Subaru Outback limited which is nice but doesn't offer the fancier options like a power liftgate or that cool start/stop button. I think I'll sell the Outback and buy a 2011 RX350 since despite it being a year older, it has more features than my top-of-the-line Outback. Add on the reliability of a Lexus vehicle and it makes sense to buy the Lexus than hang on to my Outback which is very reliable but it's not quite as luxurious. I have seen my model year and trim go for 13,000 dollars or so and a 2011 Lexus I found was closer to 18,000 with under 85,000 miles which in my opinion is a very good deal especially when you consider all the features and reliability the Lexus would have.

I love your videos. Fine work. Any chance of making a comparison video (Cayenne vs Lexus RX)? I realize it's not a "fair fight". As an early base model Cayenne (3.2 and 3.6) versus a 350 RX would be more apt. Anyway, both vehicles do have their respective strengths. I've heard the Cayenne drives more like a truck, and the 350/330 drives more like a car. Don't know if this is true? Also, is the 350/330 more nimble, due to its much lighter weight and slighter size?? I hope you may answer this question, or make a video comparison. Thank you. Take care. Vince

Have the 06 RX. Except for the aftermarket rack and pinion causing a screeching sound during a cold start, everything else is good

Just bought my first Lexus. And yes it is 2005 rx330. It has 106k miles. Got from the auction. Nothing serious just a rear bumper. Started it and drove it home) . Exited to have it on board! Thank you for your review!
