As long as you have a Negate or some other counter spell open, you play a 2 mana creature that quickly turns over if someone tries to kill it or play anything. I foresee Blue Black control with Thing in the ice and Jace with counter spells and creature removal...
The first super flavorful set that I really cared about the story of was Invasion, then old Ravnica when I started playing properly and innistrad was really the next. The thing that ties these three together is the presence of Richard Garfield on the design team, everything that man touches turns to gold.
Brad, in response to Invasive Surgery, at least in modern that sorcery is Scapeshift. Now, I am not saying that Invasive Surgery is now the best sideboard card against Scapeshift, but you asked for a sorcery that we would want to surgically extract.
i have really liked Epiphany at the Drownyard in my standard zombie reanimator deck. I've used it to dig for land on x=1 and usually if i get it off for 5-8 I've made piles where both piles have stuff i want in my yard and my hand. I have liked it.

KoenZyxYssel I don't think it was the theme that did that to people, but instead how terrible the block overall was. I think the theme is great, but they need to pump out good cards to go with it.
Sorceries you want to counter in standard: Explosive vegetation, wrath effects, declaration in stone, ruinous path, painful truths, transgress the mind.... so many, just depends if your strategy is vulnerable to any of those.

I think the flavour of the chained spirits is that the people of Innistrad wrap the dead in chains to make then undesirable to ghoulcallers (Innistrad's necromancers).
Engulf the Shores and other kraken, serpent and other sea monster stuff is for me and my "Flood the World (Sea monster Vorthos) EDH" deck. Every set my deck gets 1 or 2 cards better THANKS WIZARDS.
+Breaux Unfortunately, no, that has the opposite effect. Creatures with Skulk can't be blocked by other creatures that have _greater_ power than the creature with skulk. The smaller your creature is, the less easily it can be blocked. If, in theory, it had 0 power, then all other creatures have greater power, so none of them can block it. If you add +1/+1 counters on your skulk creature, then people _can_ block it. This is where the name 'skulk' comes from. It means to crouch, or prowl, and sneak around. The small creature is unnoticed by the bigger creature, and just skulks his way in.
A lot of people mention that the art in the set is weird, have to point out that the art director of this set is a new guy and not Jeremy Jarvis(the ArtDir of all sets for many years going back)

I think Engulf the Shore will be better for a 2 color deck. You play your new fatty leviathan and then play Engulf the Shore next turn, and since you only have ~4 islands, you bounce all of their chump blockers and anything that can double block your fatty.
+Adam Wallis Inquisition of Kozilek, Thoughtseize, Gitaxian Probe, Night's Whisper/Read the Bones/Painful Truths, Lingering Souls, Empty the Warrens/Grapeshot, Pyroclasm, All is Dust, Ancient Stirrings, Sylvan Scrying/Life from the Loam, Smallpox, Lava Spike, pretty much every cheeky tier 3 crap deck like , Tooth & Nail, Omniscience or Warpworld. In standard it could really slow down the UR control deck running Magmatic Insight and Tormenting Voice, seems great vs Decleration in Stone which will be premier removal often seen as a playset, Avacyn's Judgement, Languish, Crush of Tentacles, Bring to Light, Radiant Flames, and Traverse the Ulvenwald. It also seems to counter a handful of the blue draw spells, the only green kill spell Rabid Bite, Murderous Compulsion, and three of the set's mythics in limited. I'm normally not this verbose, but it seems obvious this card could be very good in sideboards.
+Loren Darcy don't really care to counter/extract stuff like thoughtseize, probe and draw cards, the storm cards get countered but the abylity goes off anyway and you're dead unless it was just right, omniscience is an enchantment
