    I’ve been using Susan Bates hooks for most of the 58 years I’ve been crocheting and I love that it rarely splits my yarn. Thank You.

      So very true. I started Susan Bates in 1969. I was in the 4th grade. My classmate taught me how to crochet. Woolworth was where, I bought my first hook.

      I am on the opposite side in that Susan Bates hooks split my yarn something terrible. No matter the yarn. I learned on Boye and a few years ago I switched to Clover Soft Touch. So thankful we have different hooks available.

      @@kellyreneeverydayhello, I hope you are having a blessed day. I have a question if I may? I have Ben crocheting for most of my 51 years of 59. Well a few ladies in the 55+ park want to learn it and I would be honored to know if I can use some of your videos for them to reference when they go home and want to continue by themselves? Do you have any videos for a beginner?

      @kellyreneeveryday I totally agree with you. My daughter brought one over and some yarn to teach me a new stitch. When I tried her Susan Bates crochet hook, I was stunned at how much better I liked it than mine of the same size. It handles like a charm. I just recently replaced all of my own Boye hooks out for the Susan Bates hooks! And the funny thing was that she didn't even know that she had a SB hook, nor where it came from! 😂 We all learn from each other ❤

      2:49 I have been making a similar striped afghan, changing colors every row. One side is lined up perfectly the other not so. Is there a way to manually decrease some of the beginning row edges to line up evenly with the others? I plan on putting an edge around the entire afghan.

    • @epena2805
      @epena2805 ปีที่แล้ว

      @valeriekeith44081
      Sounds like you are missing stitches somewhere along the row. Two hints: put a stitch marker in the first stitch & last stitch on each row. A short piece of scrap yarn will work. Count the stitches as you complete each row. Every row should always be the same number as you had after finishing your Single Crochet base row. I know, I know - it’s a real pain.! But I still do this with each new project until I am sure I have it down-pat and that’s 50++ years of crocheting.
      The stitch you are likely missing is the slip stitch as it is hard to see. Try working it a bit looser each time. Also, it is easier to remember that with each new row worked you will be putting a Half Double into the Slip stitch and a Slip Stitch into the Half Double on the row below. If you are having trouble seeing the Slip Stitch gently pull your work to the side - the Slip Stitch is the one with a tiny little V. Tilt your work toward you & you will see the sideways teardrop of the Slip Stitch. That is where you insert your hook to make the Half Double. If you are still having difficulty, search TH-cam with the phrase “crochet Crunch Stitch” (that’s the more common name).
      My early projects came with a lot of frogging (rip it, rip it, rip it all out). I know you CAN do this.!!!

    Very clear instructions. Until now, I didn't realise the better or more expensive hooks, were better as they don't split the wool. I thought it was just a preference, more money to outlay, and that the cheaper hooks work just as well. I am more the wiser, thank you.

    • @kellyreneeveryday
      @kellyreneeveryday  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m so glad you liked it. The Susan Bate’s hooks are what I like best and I feel for the extra dollar or two, it is with it. There still is a level of personal preference too…😊

    I’m so glad I came across your video. I’m making my grandson an afghan. I started different stitches just to frog them. I finally found your video. I’ve already done a couple of inches. Then I’ll make one for my granddaughter and finally one for mommy and daddy. This pattern is so pretty, and easy! My husband, and I, decided all 3 afghans will be the same stitch! With your instructions, about the size of the hook as well, I think I’m be making 3 master pieces! 😁 Thank you so very much for your direction and explanations about the yarn and hook. Perfection. 👏🏼

    The reason you chose Susan Bates hooks (the shape of the head) is the exact reason I have heard people say they did NOT prefer these hooks. Hook design is very personal. It depends on the crocheter’s style and possibly the yarn!

      @kellyreneeveryday  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I finished the blanket, for my grandson, using the Up and Down stitch. It turned out great! For a 50x60 blanket, I used 5 skeins with just about 5 feet of yarn left. Perfect! I don’t mind saying I was impressed with myself! 😆 I have you to thank for that. I appreciate you sharing this stitch with us. I’m working on a basket to send the blanket in. • @kellyreneeveryday
