I DID IT!!! I tried this as an experiment. Didn't love the colors but chose the colors I had extra of. I had some trouble with the sizing and making sure i had the correct beginning chain. I'll have to get a better handle on it before I do another one. But all in all I'm pretty proud of myself for getting it done. And now that it's done, I don't hate the colors. Yay!!!

So many creators on TH-cam have this problem unfortunately and it ends up hurting the generous creator and their humble audience..you can also turn comments off. Thats not really ideal but possible. Thank you for sharing the process and technique..and of course your time videoing..just remember anything good is always going to attract some negative person..don't let them steal your sparkle!❤

June 30 2024: Love the explaination of the filet stitch and ending the row to have a smooth edge. This looks so complicated, but you have shown how it is doable. You are so right when measuring strains and how they grow! Wow that weaving really secures the tassels also. Side note I have never seen a “yarn bobbin”. This makes it so easy with picking colors. Thank you for the pointers and your “mistakes” that gives us notice of what may happen. Just came across your channel and needed a blanket for my teen grandson. This one is perfect. Thank you for posting this gorgeous blanket.

@@SierraSadie1 No idea, sorry. My mother made it all the time, it was her go-to blanket. Everyone she ever met probably got one 😊 Our introduction to crocheting was being allowed to weave the yarn strands with a safety pin and make the fringe. Then she could start one and we could continue the mesh until we could make the whole thing.... but it never did have a name that I knew of. She did like the Magic Crochet magazines, and made from them. But I'm not sure if she got it from there.

This really is a very lovely blanket. I wonder if a line of sewing at each end might just keep those strands secure? (Have you ever done that? I haven’t, but I also have never woven strands through an entire afghan before. I’d be afraid of them being pulled, say, by a hair clip or piece of jewelry or something. I’d think as long as you use thread the same color as the chain row at each end, it wouldn’t be noticeable at all. Just wondering out loud). Thanks for the demonstration of the filet stitch, I’m not familiar with that one because I usually only do zig-zag afghans or something with a minimal-holes stitch. 😊

I love it❤! For some reason, El Dorado came to mind. Then I looked up the meaning & now I know why!
    People also ask
    What does El Dorado mean?
    gilded one
The Spaniards called the city ruled by this flamboyant monarch "El Dorado," Spanish for “gilded one,” and the story of the gold-covered king eventually grew into a legend of a whole country paved with gold. These days, “El Dorado” can also used generically for any place of vast riches, abundance, or opportunity.

Also, I just made a filet type shawl and was thinking of weaving in another color to fill the filet areas bc they are a little bigger due to my not being able to find the right size hook when I started. Thank you SO very much for sharing this. My mom was gifted this blanket by her best friend ages ago. As a child, it was always the family favorite in our family room ! My mom passed away this past December, and when I saw this video... I immediately thought of her! I am moving next week. After I get settled, I'm definitely making this to be a part of my new home! I need to replay this video, since I didn't catch the size of your blanket. I just want the size of a throw - and I got confused when you spoke about adjusting the stitch count for custom sizing! It's very possible I just need another cup of coffee!! 😂 Just wanted to say thanks - I'm going to be able to make a memory blanket to enjoy for years to come! 😘

Watching this video just reminded me that I made this afghan years ago, but have no idea where I stored it.
All I remember from it was the weaving was difficult because my space wasnt large enough to hold the blanket flat.
Love the colors you chose ❤
