Interstitial Lung Abnormalities (ILA) = early pulmonary fibrosis?

  • Overview of interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs). ILAs represent incidental findings on a chest CT scan, which affect more than 5% of any lung zone (upper, middle or lower) in a person where interstitial lung disease / pulmonary fibrosis was not suspected.
Interstitial lung abnormalities can be found in 2-9% of patients who have a CT scan (depending on the population studied). There is no clear consensus on how these should be followed up.
The main problem is that in some cases, ILAs may actually represent an early case of pulmonary fibrosis / interstitial lung disease. Therefore there is a risk that the abnormalities may worsen over time.
This is a useful overview of interstitial lung abnormalities:

And ,of course, there are some medications that are known to predispose you to Pulmonary Fibrosis, in particular some cardiac rhythm stabilising meds'.

@@KassiusFineArt I'm not a medic but I believe Amiodarone is one in question. I had this for Atrial Fibrillation.

there are a few drugs that have been linked to interstitial lung disease, however this complication is usually quite rare. I did not include medications in my video, as I think this is a wider topic to discuss, and very nuanced. There is quite a lot of controversy on how to attribute lung disease to specific medications which I think I can illustrate with some examples, but probably need to do it in a full video rather than a quick comment. Stay tuned !

You're not leaving this earth until it's your time. At that moment not a minute, hour, or second can spare your life. So, live and be thankful for each and every day ❤️
