  • Is it useful to use a Ventolin (salbutamol, or "blue") inhaler if you have pulmonary fibrosis?
Salbutamol inhalers are useful for patients who also have evidence of an airways' disease component. Some patients who have pulmonary fibrosis may also have other chest conditions associated (such as asthma or COPD). In these cases, inhalers may actually help with breathlessness. Also, patients who have evidence of an "obstructive" pattern on spirometry (lung function) may also have some benefit.
However, inhalers are not useful in all cases and you should ask your doctor if they are actually a good treatment in your case.

I try to live my life to the fullest. You're not going anywhere until Allah (God) says so! If you live beyond 75 years is truly a blessing nowadays 🙏🏾❤️

Thank you once again Dr Stefan, I use ventolin when my cough gets out of control and I find it harder to breathe. Sometimes it settles it all down, so for me personally I feel it helps me. Cheers Vicky

Very helpful. A video on Combined P F and Emphysema would be welcomed. I had been a non smoker since 1979 when dignosed thus a couple of years back and informed that it was smoking related. I guess that it's progressing slowly as I'm still here and breathing (just!).

HI Dr Stephan ! Great videos. I have pulmonary fibrosis. My consultant is treating it as Idiopathic while I think it started with Covid. I got lung scarring from a patient who had a fit of coughing beside me in my doctor's waiting room. This fact wasn't communicated to the consultant but a CT scan confirms it. He's giving me Esbriet for it at present, but I have read that steroids are used as well as antifibrotics for post covid fibrosis, which I think I have, but steroids are not used for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. So,my question is, is the treatment different for post covid pf as opposed to Idiopathic pf ? Or, are steroids of limited or no use as another doctor told me today ? I'm confused and would appreciate your opinion ?
