Thank you for a great lesson!! I make sure the dishes get done. LOL. How to Say "Still" | Russian Language In this video Fedor explains the difference between the following phrases: 1. До сих пор 2. До тех пор 3. Всё ещё 4. По-прежднему My name is Fedor. Today we're going to learn how to say “Still” in Russia. Things like why are you still at home ? Are you still with your friends ? Things like that, but in Russian there are four different ways of saying this with four different kind of outlooks on the same word. We have four different variations but each variation would mean something different. It’s not going to be the same exact thing. So today we're going to talk about those differences. Let's start with the first one: 1. Up until this point. До сих пор Do sikh por -You haven't washed the dishes up until this point. Ты до сих пор не помыл посуду Ty do sikh por ne pomyl posudu . You still haven't washed the dishes kind of like that. 2. A second way of saying still is Up until that time. До тех пор Do tekh por Though “До тех пор” is very similar to the first one, but this one would mean “up until that time “. So this phrase you would most likely be used with future tense. -Please wash the dishes until that point. Пожалуйста , помой посуду до тех пор. Pozhaluysta , pomoy posudu do tekh por. Let's say it's the context and talking about “Hey my son ,we're going to go to the theatre at six pm . Please wash dishes before then, before that time; before that moment . So in this instance you would use direct “ До тех пор” because you're talking about a future time and you want something to be done before then. 3. The third phrase is going to be different from the ones that we talked about and it's going to be : Still Всё ещё Fsyo yeshcho This one we should not take it apart word to word because it simply would not make sense, and it only makes sense -it only has this meaning when it's combined. I guess this one would be the closest to “still” because this one would mean that something happened in the past and it's still the same now. So if you compare this one to it once before those were simply outlining that something has to be done or will be done until a certain point. But this one means that something is in some state and it's still the same . So let's say with this washing dishes : -You still haven't washed the dishes. Ты всё ещё не помыл посуду . Ty fsyo yeshcho ne pomyl posudu . The dishes weren't washed before and they're still not washed. Nothing has changed ; the time has gone by but nothing has changed. It's the same situation. The dishes are still not washed . So Всё ещё is the closest to the meaning “still” than any other phrase. I guess , instead of you trying to memorize them all I guess I can go for Всё ещё . When talking about “still” in Russian it's going to be like the most universal one . 4. And then the last one is : Still the same as it was in the past По-прежднему Po-prezhdnemu “Прежднему “ Usually means something sort of previous or as before. And По-прежднему means it's still the same as it was in the past as it was before . Kind of similar to “Всё ещё “, but a little bit different . Now we are comparing whatever is now to the past. -You haven't washed the dishes as previously or as before. Ты по-прежднему не помыл посуду Ty po-prezhdnemu ne pomyl posudu. It was not washed before and it is still not washed . It would mean like you referring back to the past tense ;to the past events. So those were the four expressions of talking about “still” . Let's go over them one by one: До сих пор Up until this moment. До тех пор Up until that point. Всё ещё Still /very close to “still” in English По-прежднему As before; as previously . But these four phrases are just snippets of one particular usage of Russian . Love your videos. You are a terrific teacher. It's best to have a phrase first stated in English, then in Russian, then in English, and left on the screen longer in Russian. It takes a foreign speaker much longer to concentrate on the phrase in Russian. As for Всё ещё, I like seeing the literal translation of everything.
Yes it is, with "всё ещё" you transmit the idea that the subject is still doing something that he should have already got done. Ещё transmits the idea that the subject is still doing something, but all goes as he planned. Here are some exemples : Я ещё там : I'm still there. And I should be. (so everything is OK about the fact that I'm there). Я всё ещё там : I'm still there, but I should be already gone. (So it's not okey that I'm still there, cause I have planned to leave, but I still didn't do it.) Он ещё ест. He's still eating (and its okey). Он всё ещё ест : he's still eating, although he's supposed to be already done with it. "всё ещё" is kind of "negative", It's used when you are up set about the fact that the person is STIIIL 🤯 doing something. And всё ещё не + verbe Means "you were supposed to do something, but you still didn't do it". (like in Fyodor's example of the dishes).
@@jeffreyd508 Yes, до сих пор is a synonym of всё ещё, it's also considered as quite negative, I would say. But ещё, is not. Hope I helped. I'm glad you are learning russian 😏.
@@denispavlenko6752 thx... Russian is a soul crusher. Not sure if a native speaker can understand how/why it's so much more difficult than other languages
"Помой посуду до тех пор" One could hardly understand what this means because it sounds really strange. You better use "к тому времени - by the time" in this sentence.
Does the first one more so reference "up until this present moment"? The first two distinguishing them by "this" and "that" doesn't seem very clear. I understand the 2nd one referencing a future time period, however, I am wondering about the first one more if I am understanding it correctly.
до сих (сиЕ = эти = these) пор (порА = времена = times/moments) = "up until this (present) time (moment)" is 100% correct translation. And seconds is about "those times", which are far (in future). So you understand it correctly!
Good video Fedor, but I wish you could spend a little more time on the pronunciation. It kind of blows by so fast I can’t really tell how to say the words exactly. Including the Latin alphabet spelling always helps too. Thanks.
"Пока" is used in negative expressions as a rule. For exemple: Я пока не хочу. Я пока не помыл посуду. Я пока не ел, поем позже. in this case "пока" = "for now" in the affirmative "пока" means that actions happen at the same time. я поем пока ты смотришь телевизор. Пока я ждал тебя, я съел булочку. in this case "пока" = " while"
So did the dishes ever get done?

How to Say "Still" | Russian Language
In this video Fedor explains the difference between the following phrases:
1. До сих пор
2. До тех пор
3. Всё ещё
4. По-прежднему
My name is Fedor. Today we're going to learn how to say “Still” in
Russia. Things like why are you still at home ? Are you still with your friends ?
Things like that, but in Russian there are four different ways of saying this
with four different kind of outlooks on the same word.
We have four different variations but each variation would mean something different. It’s not going to be the same exact thing. So today we're going to talk about those differences.
Let's start with the first one:
1.
Up until this point.
До сих пор
Do sikh por
-You haven't washed the dishes up until this point.
Ты до сих пор не помыл посуду
Ty do sikh por ne pomyl posudu .
You still haven't washed the dishes kind of like that.
2.
A second way of saying still is
Up until that time.
До тех пор
Do tekh por
Though “До тех пор” is very similar to the first one, but this one would mean “up until that time “.
So this phrase you would most likely be used with future tense.
-Please wash the dishes until that point.
Пожалуйста , помой посуду до тех пор.
Pozhaluysta , pomoy posudu do tekh por.
Let's say it's the context and talking about “Hey my son ,we're going to go
to the theatre at six pm . Please wash dishes before then, before that time; before that moment . So in this instance you would use direct “ До тех пор” because you're talking about a future time and you want something to be done before then.
3.
The third phrase is going to be different from the ones that we talked
about and it's going to be :

Fsyo yeshcho
This one we should not take it apart word to word because it
simply would not make sense, and it only makes sense -it only has this meaning
when it's combined. I guess this one would be the closest to “still” because this one would mean that something happened in the past and it's still the same now.
So if you compare this one to it once before those were simply outlining that something has to be done or will be done until a certain point. But this one means that something is in some state and it's still the same .
So let's say with this washing dishes :
-You still haven't washed the dishes.
I guess , instead of you trying to memorize them all I guess
I can go for Всё ещё . When talking about “still” in Russian it's
going to be like the most universal one .
4.
And then the last one is :
Still the same as it was in the past
По-прежднему
Po-prezhdnemu
“Прежднему “ Usually means something sort of previous or as before.
And По-прежднему means it's still the same as it was in the past as
it was before . Kind of similar to “Всё ещё “, but a little bit different .
Now we are comparing whatever is now to the past.
-You haven't washed the dishes as previously or as before.
Ты по-прежднему не помыл посуду
Ty po-prezhdnemu ne pomyl posudu.
It was not washed before and it is still not washed .
It would mean like you referring back to the past tense ;to the past events.
So those were the four expressions of talking about “still” .
Let's go over them one by one:
До сих пор

До тех пор
Up until that point.
Всё ещё
Still /very close to “still” in English

thank u helping me so much,i very like ur video, really easy to understand,
"Всё ещё" in German is "Immer noch".
I am wondering if you have any video about prefixes, such as при, по, пере, etc. Thanks

Very useful information! But Fedor... have you washed the dishes already!?

I think it will be nice if you add as example ere you still free and are you still living in the same address
Всё ещё sounds like a magic spell or something
Ахаха
And there is a small typo in по-прежднему. The right one is по-прежнему

What about Всё равно?

Oh yeah yeah
Good video but до тех пор isn’t a translation of “still” unlike до сих пор. Everything else is ok
🧡💛💚
Я до сих пор не знаю как говорить по-русский.
Wait, I thought you could just say ещё as still. На пример я ещё на роботу или я ещё голоден хотя я съел
Oran Lichtman я думал это тоже
Всё ещё Болгарию вас
нет слова "болгарить" :) Есть слово "благодарить". Лучше сказать "До сих пор благодарю вас".
@@vladko2008 спасибо
до сих пор is more like "yet"
Блин 😕☹
I usually use «пока». Is this incorrect? Например: я пока хочу...
"Пока" is used in negative expressions as a rule. For exemple: Я пока не хочу. Я пока не помыл посуду. Я пока не ел, поем позже. in this case "пока" = "for now"
in the affirmative "пока" means that actions happen at the same time. я поем пока ты смотришь телевизор. Пока я ждал тебя, я съел булочку. in this case "пока" = " while"
Пока means "while" or "so far". So, in your example, it's correct.
QUESTIONS: How is the LGBT community being treated?
Badly

Всё ещё ist halt einfach "immer noch".
Hoffe das bringt euch was
