Now I understand the meaning of У the sentence У меня есть makes sense. It means (literally): there is something near me. It makes sense why it is used to refer possession because when you have something you usually keep it near yourself.

@@georgyekimov9727 Actually it is better explained through German. U menya yest' - I could translate that as "bei mir gibt es / hat es", or "with me there is". But (limited) English doesn't really have u / bei in that sense. Now I wouldn't say "bei mir gibt es" in German. instead I'd simply say ich habe / ya imeyu. Learning Russian is much easier when you know German. You as a Russian and I as a German use very different words, but we very often use the same idioms. Like you would say something like В рамках студии, ученики нарушили... and I would say Im Rahmen der Studie entdeckten die Wissenschaftler... But you wouldn't say "in the frame of the study, scientists discovered ..". It's so much harder for me to translate from Russian to English than Russian to German.

For example:
-I am near the school.

Used to say “No” as an answer to a question.
It can also be used to say that there is nothing there, or you don’t have something.
For example:
-I don’t have water.

-Он там? Нет! Он нe там =Is he there? No (he isn't there)!
[On tam? Nyet! On ne tam.] answer to a question.

Ни [Ni/nee]=Neither, not a, not any
Part of speech: conjunction, particle . Used for saying: neither this nor that.
For example:
-I neither had a phone, nor a computer.
У меня не было ни телефона, ни компьютера.
U menya ne byla ni telefona, ni kamp'yutera.
So close to (and in many cases, the same) as Bosnian/Serbo-Croatian. I know this but it always surprises me when I hear it again!
