Summer Splice: 1960 Chevy "Biscala": It's a Crumbling Ruin! Can We Save This Sweet Hardtop?

- Hi guys! Thanks for tuning in! This week we're going to keep going on the 1960 Chevy Impala I bought from Tom a couple of years ago... I have a Chevy Biscayne sedan for a donor, and it is time to see if we can save the Impala by grafting it to the bottom of the solid Biscayne! I did a 1960 Plymouth Fury a few years ago, so it'll be a similar job, overall... This week we'll finish stripping out the Impala and lift the top of the body off...
First: We'll fire up the old Citroen Traction Avant and finish installing the hoist!
Thanks everyone who ordered a 1937 Chevy T-shirt; they're being printed now and I'll let everyone know when they are on the way!
Hope you enjoyed the 8mm clips! I am filming more on the 8mm camera and I'll include the footage as soon as I get it developed... Special thanks to Steve Dean and Niagara Film Labs in Toronto.
Thanks to everyone who subscribed to our channel here, and thanks also for all of your "likes" and comments!

What are the odds on that trim?
And I don't believe in luck.
Luck: The invisible, magical force that chooses winners and losers?
Sounds like a myth.

Hi Scott I've been watching your channel since well before the Fury splice. I live down in Calgary and I'm going to be in Edmonton next week. I have for you some atlas tire advertising inserts that date back to the 1960's that i'd like to give to you. Is there any chace of a meet up. If so How can I make that happen. I'll riding up on my 1977 Honda goldwing with custom sidecar. would you be ok If I stopped by and dropped them off. If this can work I'll bring them with me.
After he repaired Dean's push button transmission on the Edsel, I was crazy impressed but pull starting the front wheel like an outboard.....Outstanding!
Stephen is, after all, a professional auto mechanic…
@@Popincourt-or4cfEven so……
I’ve heard of that but never seen it done before. Outstanding
Ash's smile as he pulled of the coil power was fantastic! Good ol' "drinkin an drivin"!
Scott, great Saturday show. Thumbs up for Dean and the flips, Myles, Ashley for support and honey bunny for the filming.
Great for Dan and the missing trim. Thumbs up for Chad.
How about a big thumbs up for Stephen and getting that old Citroen to kick and start. Cheers.
Laura and Colin's cabin will be great and keep updating it.
Cheers from Wisconsin to all.
Dan was happy for that car part. And Body off Impala. And some time at the old cabin being reconstructed. Thank you men for your work and the video.
💯👊👍💕

THannk You for the video
Hello there. My dream list of cars are:- Riley RM, Lamborghini Muira, Jenson Interceptor, Citroen SM/DS/CX, Studebaker Golden Hawk, Humber Imperial/Scepre Mk2, Facel Vega HK500, Gorden Keeble, early '60's Lincoln Continental, Jaguar E-Type Coupe/Mk2/Mk8/Mk10, Rover P5B/P6B, AEC Routemaster Bus/Coach, Bristol 603 or earlier, Bristol Lodeka Bus (as on 'On The Buses' TV show, 1963 Buick Riviera and an early Range Rover 3 door. And in the words of Chich and Chung Wedding Album; The Partrige Families Greatest Hits Album. Just don't tell the wife!
The 60 Impala is so rare and beautiful! This will be a masterpiece when its done!
A chrome strip miracle! Nice.
I keep getting mixed up which car in the Biscala is the one that will end up a car, but that's okay. It will sort itself out.
Laura, what an ambitious and cool project you're doing with the historical house.
Cheers
Sorry, i am late. It wont happen again, i promise :)
The car on my list at 74yo is the car that I enjoyed and truly appreciated owning the most. The SAAB 900. I went thru 4 of those untill I experienced the factory performance 5spd coupe...the AERO or in your neck of the woods, the SPG. I currently have a nice 9000 Aero and while it is a lot faster, the body she'll is not designed by Saab and therefore has very little aeronautical design elements. I have been thru all the dream cars of the 30s 50s and 60s USA cars. (I still have a 38 Buick coupe) The SAAB is what this older guy has selected with no influence from my childhood.
Lookin. Good. Great. Start. Thanks
Xc falcon Australian 1978 on my list well done the 2 door impala splice guys.
Ministry of Silly Walks tee-shirt!
Frankers ❤️ Dean !
Way to go Chad!
Tiger ... The Chuck Norris of kitties 🐱
At some point you are gonna need log cabin shirts, lol!
Steven: all those hours spent watching folk restore Pakistani junkers on TH-cam has real value for folk restoring Canadian junkers on TH-cam.
You can visibly see Dan get “That feeling” we all get when we find “that part “ we’re chasing for a project. That was cool man!
Big undertaking gonna be a sweet project when done..what happened to these cars I sat in as kid at dealer intros????
Whether restoring rodding or ratting there’s always that adrenaline shot when you find that part or accessoriy, especially when it’s half the price of a new one. The thrill of the hunt is a great part of this hobby
CWM Quote Of The Week: "It's a good car--just not a good example of it..." Classic!
I had a good chuckle over that one thinking about my own fleet 😁
Nice to follow Laura's 1790 house progress.
Now that you have a lift, you'll always have friends. 🙂
Will the lift be ok in the outside harsh Canadian winter?.......
That's what I thought too ! 👊😎👍
@@cinrambradYep! There are lifts specifically made for outdoors! There's a shop near me in Vermont where they have a couple of outdoor lifts
Works excellent. Can confirm. Only thing that worked better in terms of sudden friendships was buying a VW transporter bus in the early student years ....
Needs a shelter or quonset hut type buildng to extend his time on projects in that bad weather
I have crap in my eyes just from watching Scott cutting. Ash driving the chassis out was priceless. Laura's old cabin project is fantastic. Thank you all!
This is the only YT car channel where TA stands for “Traction Avant”.
😁
I had the same thought 😂
I was 14 when my uncle had enough logs to build his cabin..
They were cut from his property & air dried for 2 years...
He hired me for the summer to help him build it ...
It is one of my best memories growing up..
By summers end it was nearly complete .
Each room was made of a different species of wood & it was (still is) beautiful...
It has been featured in a few magazines that focus on log homes & my uncle made sure they mentioned me in the articles ...
Love to see Laura's when its finished..
The Impala is coming along...exciting to watch.
Just love your channel. The camaraderie and work ethic you share with your friends is such a wonderful thing to behold - and that you get to enjoy the hobby together just makes your bond so much more special. Have to say Francine "Frankers" holds a special place in my heart, my spouse loves her too! 😀
It's great to have friends that are willing to help out with projects. And donate parts to help with projects. Cheers to everyone. Impala Splice is looking good so far. Looking forward to seeing more car adventures. ❤️✌️👍😎
Just made a road trip with a friend for an old car, and he mentioned a '60 fury build...of course, it was this channel. I told him about the '60 Chevy.
I'll be damned, it worked! Yay, Steven!
AKA Abdul ....
Thanks Scott, Cheers to Laura and Colin...So much Better than something new! And lots of great wood to sniff for Miss Frankers.
Best channel ever
_All hail the forklift gnome_
Just a BIG WOW for this video Scott!!! And your Buds really help so very much!! So much joy and fun there!
Thanks for ALL! Cheers, Rich
Those moldings are amazing! As you know, they are 63 only, Biscayne only, four door only and made entirely out of unobtainium!
I know I told you before but having so many car friends I absolutely price less it like you are living in the 80s
It's official! Ash is my new hero...
He is definitely the Buff Daddy of the bunch.
Thank you Chad, for the chrome pieces. That blank spot just draws the eyes.Steven's 'pull start' was amazing. Ash,Miles, and Dean really stepped up to raise the roof.Nice of Andy to be there for the lift too. What a job that was.Always good to see Boss Tom stop by to teach proper elocution for describing the work needed. 'Dean's Greasy Flips' soon ehh? Laura's giant 'Lincoln Log' set almost looks fun to assemble.Almost...Cheers Everyone!
Congratulations on the lift Scott. That's a great tool You will get a load of work out of. All these years of doing things with out are a credit to Your commitment to these pieces of rolling art. I know Your body will appreciate this. 😉👌
Not all you need is to build a shop around your lift since you have intolerable winters
That old forklift sure comes in handy.
The look on Dan's face over the fender trim pieces was the highlight of the episode Scott. Thanks for packing so much into an hour and a quarter.
Best Wishes to everyone at Cold War Motors, their Families and Friends.
The Red fury is nice, the keystone rims was a good choice for it 👍
I just acquired a black diecast 1958 Edsel in honor of Dean's fine machine. I also have a diecast '52 Nash Ambassador. I know have two 1/18 scale Traction Avants. I have no room for the real ones so the models have to do. And they require far less maintenance than the two real vintage cars I own.
Really smart how he put the 63 Chevy trim piece in an iron pipe to prevent damage!
I about died laughing at the whole Pakistani truck thing. I thought I was the only guy that watches that stuff... Love the show guys, you're the best
I love those shows too!
Please thank Stephen for watching Pakistani trucker videos! lol Awesome!
You know the mosquitos are bad when you can hear them on the video!
I thought that was a DC 3 landing in the next field!
I had to check my audio connection!!!
Don't worry I went to swat it away from my ear !!
@@camneilsen8234I'm watching with earbuds in and damn near smacked myself upside the head 😂
@@camneilsen8234 Me too!
Sheesh, I know you guys call it the Biscalla, but all that cutting and swearing seems like it should called the the Impayne. You guys sure motored along there and made major progress.
U tube dropped my subscription and notification but I was looking for my cold war motors fix and resubscribed😊
Classy move, Chad. ❤
Hey guys! It was a very classy thing to do, for sure. Cheers from everyone here!
Log cabin splice and Biscala splice.....a race to the finish 😁
What I like is the optimism of the colors from the fifties. The tropical blues Bright reds and yellows just reek happiness and optimism. Too bad the rust proofing and quality of assembly didn't match the colors!
I am looking forward to the day you start tidying up the Traction Avant. Because of you I am starting to acquire a fondness for quirky French cars. When I was a kid Renault Dauphines were all over the place. Just like VW Beetles. But now you never see one anymore.
I like the R10’s.
I loved my 76 R 12 A Sport Wagon. @@kennethbaker2008
My uncle owned several of the Dauphines during the sixties and my cousin owned one of the Caravelles
I also can't wait for the "TA" tidying up. As an American, I don't think that I ever seen one on the road. But I think the first one that I ever saw was on a Combat! rerun and thought what a beauty.
I predict you're going to be seeing your buddies much more often now you have the hoist up.
Steven’s belt and braces approach! Love a pair of braces 😁 😂👍🏻
The Keystones look great on Myle’s Fury
Agree👍!
Nice gesture Chad!
It's a brotherhood.
Congratulations! Lifts are life changing. Dad's first company car was a '63 Biscayne 6 / stick. He had to make the deal with a local dealer. It was either that or the equivalent base model Ford. The company was so cheap they didn't allow an AM radio so the dealer had to "bury it" in the paperwork. I was - what? - 11? at the time. I remember being in the showroom where there was another Biscayne with a painted roof that was supposed to resemble a vinyl top. It didn't.
Great episode and a fantastic project! You've got a great group of helpers. Cheers and all the best from the shed.... I'm with you in spirit! (which is about as much help as I would be if I was actually there) :D
All Scott needs is a picture of The Duke and Randahl in the corner for inspiration!😎
That old forklift is pretty awesome especially since it goes so high well done
My list car is a 1969 Dodge Coronet Wagon in a White/cream colour. Our family had one when were kids.
Frankers under the Biscayne roof! I say that becomes her permanent outdoor shade area/ shelter!! Her name could be above it and the dome light could work for nighttime if she's out!
My 67 Sports Fury was T-Boned by a Pepsi truck two years ago. That is my list car. Thanks for the update on the log cabin. Beautiful property! 👍💯 for Dean’s Greasy Flips. I know of no one who deserves a hoist more than you guys. I say “you guys” because this is one tight bunch of friends. 🍻
Awesome! He got those two pieces of trim. This warms my heart!
That shot of Ash driving the old Impala chassis out from under the body.....priceless. 😂
@@MaxGiganteum old timer in garage in 1977. Cut body off a pristine. 65. Impala SS. TO GO RIDING THE DUNES IN SOUTH JERSEY?.......OUCH
You guys are nuts. Best darn channel on YT hands down. I'll be watching for the next 4 years now to see this car finished. ( like I wouldn't anyhow) cheers guys
Best way is to start the car in gear and drive it, common problem from storing any manual car
Yayyy it's Splice Time!
I just realized that you, the agents and Strong's garage have built a very fine community of life ruining restoration projects...great job.
Continental update please
Congrats on the lift, looking good! Invaluable tool indeed. The Chevy coming along nicely. Hard to believe Tom was willing to part with such a fine example. The drone footage is always a nice touch. Thanks for the update on the cabin! Cheers! 😎👍🏎🏁🏁
I've never appreciated the "Old Monster" until this episode. I really felt a sense of its presence. It must be amazing to live with! My imagination is just not sufficient. Congratulations on the hoist--I am stoked for you guys, and cheer to the "Old Monster" nice to seem him awoken from his reverie to once again serve his purpose. A good old age. Scott doesn't have a junk yard or a car collection, he runs a dignified old age home. I feel like that explains the magic of Cold War Motors!
Wow what an episode so many awesome things to unpack number one congratulations on a lift it's funny seeing people being so careful using it I spend so many years under one I feel like you get virtually careless😂 you have some of the best subscribers and oh my god those mosquitoes That sounded like hell. Pakistan start win. And seeing dean getting lifted by the forklift kicking his feet he made me think of curly from the Three stooges for some reason
Laura's cabin is going to be awesome! She has got to be one of the most comedic woman that I have ever seen. On top of that, she is highly intelligent and gorgeous. Are you sure that you are related Scott, maybe you were adopted?! ?! LOL 😆 🤣 😂.
This might just have been your best episode yet, my flabber is completely gasted!
Cheers, see you Thursday. I shudder to think what you might get up to by then!
Congratulations on the having the rack up, what a life changing piece of equipment. Obviously there were several violations that the Canadian version of OSHA would not be too thrilled with.
World's sketchiest forklift. But either you have a lot of unshared footage or it always does what you need it to do.
An action packed episode, so much great progress on several fronts.
Kudos to Steven for the Pakistani rope start!
Totally awesome on starting it!
Hi Scott and Agents. I never would have guessed the Traction Advante was front wheel drive. I've never seen the Pakistani starting method performed so flawlessly. Stephen! The joy on Dan's face he showed us when talking about the 63 Chevy. Thank you Chad, and the old car gods. The Summer Splice project moves ahead. Tell Myles I know a great therapist, she's from Sweden. Oh yes, Laura's Guillotine might come in handy in the future, so don't piss her off to bad. Thanks for keeping my Saturdays real.
Traction Avant literally means front wheel drive in French.
To be honest My List Car is ....A 3.0 V6 Capri.!
I've had cars with a clutch that sticks to the plate and flywheel. Before dropping a spinning wheel I would first try to break the disk free by applying brake force as I added throttle to maintain the engine speed. It puts a BUNCH of progressive torque into the driveline without so much excitement. I've grown timber 45 years. Laura's timbers are from a different world.
Long live the Impayne! Long live the Turbo Firefly!
I was born in 1960 so really the top car on my list would be a 60 Ford station wagon, then a 68 Cougar XR7 and a 68 Galaxie 500 fastback.
Wow! That lift is going to be an amazing addition to the plantation.
The forklift paid its way once more. Can't wait to see the video of it going to Kyle's for a makeover.
Congrats to Laura and her hubby for the progress so far. Impressive work by John.
Oh.. please tell Ash to not drink and drive. I mean.. look what he did to that car! Tore it apart. Wow.
Well, Scott.. you really didn't disappoint with this episode (not that you usually do). Fantastic.
Cheers to you, Frankers, the agents and of course to the foreman and Honey Bunny too.
Pakistani rope start: thumbs up. Hoist: Thumbs up. Biscayne chrome and Dan's smile: thumbs up. Supernaturally good-natured: Thumbs up. Yoga the f*cking thing out: Thumbs up. Greasy flips. Thumbs up. Ash driving the Imp out of the Ala: Thumbs up. Awesome episode.
lol, I used to start my VW that way when I was in high school (1971 ?) :)
If I had not watched the Fury splice I would be wondering where the Impala is👍 headed. I know that somewhere down the road I will be coming back to this video and shaking my head in disbelief.
Pakistan how to videos to the rescue!
This is already forkin’ excellent. Only problem I see, is you can now never retire or die. I can’t imagine who beside you would maintain an outdoor hoist in working condition.
Tiger photo bombs the video.
Tiger photo bombs the video everytime!😆
Love that fat cat!
murther fu... the Pakistani truck Starter trick worked! Spliting up isn't that bad... And a Cabin update. Good show!
Well the Pakistani rope trick you're gonna have to remember that one man.
Thanks Scott and everyone for another great Saturday video this made my day so much better watching more on the 1960 Impala so great Dan got the trim for the 1963 and i liked seeing Laura's project hope to see more excited for her cheers to everyone.😊👍✌❤🍺
Also Tom's kicking ass as usual!
the most important thing to make sure cant fail is the swing pins for the arms that hit the ground to release the lock, waylon wire found that out the hard way several months back
as this is an outside lift double check if they dont lock in as the lift goes up the lift cuts out
if the pins jam from dirt or rust the arms can slip out from under the car
Happy Saturday
Laying in a spider infested wheel well with an angle grinder is one of my top 5 favorite jobs in the whole world! Epic content as usual this week!
I thought sure that Scott was going to set his beard on fire with the sparks!
@@danielulz1640Me Too ! 👊😎👍
I'll bet at least 85% of the subscribers to this channel can relate to Scott's words "Isn't this a great hobby" while he was doing all of that "nasty" work ???
Thumbs up 👍 for the Pakistani rope trick
yer supposed to shout "Clear! " when using a strap around a wheel to start the engine. love it!
Or switch is on--Contact!
Scott, you need to grease the pressure plate! No charge, pal! 😁 As for a list, at my time of life there's only one car on it. A '54 Studebaker Commander Coupe in Azore Green with a Vista Green roof. I'd be a happy old fart indeed.
