Nice video! Tip: I have the same XT1, just prior to draining the oil remove the dip stick. This will allow the oil to vent properly and faster plus assure all the old oil has drained. Best Regards, Jay
Nice tutorial. I have been to schools to learn about oil and filters. The oil you choose is excellent but the Fram filter is rated very low. The filter is as important as the oil. Don't skimp a few dollars on filters. Your engine will thank you. Enjoyed your video Looking forward to the next
@@CrandallEquipment Fram isn’t bad but there extra guard line up of filters are terrible, as well as the tough guard line up, the ultra guard on the other hand are some of the best filters out there. I use Fram ultra filters on mowers all the time. Great filters
Nice tutorial! I've been running ethanol free for the last three years in all of my small engines. What ever the additional cost is, I found that is well worth it! Engines run much better with less issues.
I'm a new subscriber because I have the exact same mower and just like you believe in ethanol free fuel for my lawn mower. My mower is also due for the oil change and wanted to watch a "pro" do it so I can not go wrong. Stay Safe Ben,...yes you can teach an old dog (59 year old semi-retired disable man) new tricks...The cost for ethanol here on the Eastern Shore of Va is $5.49/gal...and I usually just trailer my mower to the "Royal Farms" Station to refill the tank.

Ben, if you remove the dip stick when draining, the oil will drain faster. It is recommended to run your tractor outside or in a well ventilated area. If you run it inside a closed building and you do something to knock yourself out, or you faint, you have a good chance of dying due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Stay safe. Your family will thank you for it.
Actually no. All those fuels at your regular gas station will be around 10% ethanol. You will either find these at a marina or at some stations marked “ethanol or alcohol free” there is a website that will locate ethanol free gas stations in your area. www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=IN
How did u arrive at that fram model number? I have, i think, the same model xt1 but im getting a different number when i cross reference on frams site.
I'm using the factory Kohler oil filters until the warrantee runs out. Same with spark plugs and air filters. I document everything, not going to give them an excuse to deny repairs. I've read horror stories about CC and Kohler. It cost a little more but I only change this stuff once a year so why not, it's only 3 years. I appreciate the info on cheaper filters though. After the warrantee runs out, this will come in handy.
Why did you remove the oil filter? The manual’s maintenance schedule calls only for break-in oil change after 5 hours. The oil filter (and another oil change) is called out at the 50 hour mark. I know typically an oil change includes replacing the filter, but an OEM Kholer filter should not be dirty or unusable after 5 hours. Thoughts?
@@CrandallEquipment True. I just bought my XT1 this weekend and will be at 5 hours next weekend. I’m planning to use an OEM Kohler filter, but was debating replacing it mostly because I will be throwing away a relatively good part….but I agree that $14 in my case for the OEM filter will definitely not bankrupt me. I’m likely overthinking this and will just replace it and be glad I did a traditional full-up oil change that includes replacing the filter.
@@valdeha2000 I am convinced the most wear in an engine is in break in, hints why they only run the oil for 5 hours. With all the performance engines I have worked on, you will find the most metal in your filter on break in as well. When bearings and rings are settling in for the first time. I would think one should change the filter too. But I can’t argue with the manufacturer. Just my preference.
@@CrandallEquipment If you don`t replace the oil filter during the oil change, the filter wil still be full with the dirty break in oil. Then when you start the engine, all the old oil will be mixed into the new oil.
I wouldn't wast ur money on that gas in a can I used it on my brand new jd and outlet weeks it was running really rough sent it to the dealer they told me not to use that gas.i fergit why but I switched to regular gas no issues its just a wast of money I have a old jd that is 16 years old alway use 89 octane ethnol gas never a issue just my opinion thats what happened to me u may have different experience

I agree 100%. Not much price difference for a substantial gain. And your rubber fuel hoses should last much longer. No alcohol drying them out.

I always run premium fuels in my small and large engines
Why would you run premium? Higher octane fuel does nothing unless the engine is designed for it.
I have the same mower. my front wheels look like they are not aligned or something. Does yours look that way when they are pointed straight ahead?
Plastic container ground coffee comes in is cheaper for a drain pan.

Ethanol, free gas is a good idea. The ethanol raises hell with rubber, O-rings, fuel lines and plastic fuel filters and stuff like that.

When I researched that is the number it gave me. The threads matched and actually rang up as a “Kohler” filter on the receipt. 7575

I always used Fram,however Wilson is spot on,Fram is a horrible filter! Don’t try to save $ by scrimping on your filter!

I think it depends a lot on where you live too. Colder climates where everything freezes isn’t good for the ethanol.
