One of the best road tunes EVER.
On top of that, my first real job out of college (and most important in my life path) was working 7 years overseas on a radar in the Philippines in the 80's. This was a song we always played at get togethers, almost like an anthem, when we weren't working the regular 80 hour weeks. RADAR LOVE....
There is a driving force in rock songs that evoke the idea of moving through time in space. No rock song does that more than this one. Every listen to this song is journey.

Cord LaFond Used to be so simple, just a few talented musicians with the basic instruments.. Music magic.
Too many "Heavy" bands have drummers who would be better suited to the army. This guy though is funky as hell and totally unorthodox. It could have been yet another rock song, but the drumming really raises it out from the crowd!

This is one of their early performances, from 1973. WOW- what a find!! They're still young and hot with that raw energy!! They are rocking out, man! The lead singer had a great voice and rocked those tight pants! The guitarists have great moves and the expressions on their faces are epic! That old car was so freaking fabulous! That drummer is enigmatic and the way he jumped off the platform at the end was one of the greatest endings to a video ever! WOW!! I can dig it! LOVE THIS!

3 am driving 80 miles an hour down a flat desert highway, straight as an arrow, windows rolled down, headed for Barstow. That's when I first heard this song in 1974.

Bought this when it came out. A year later we went to see them live in Doncaster at a show introduced by John Peel from Old Grey Whistle Test. Sad to say they didn't live up to expectations, the support group called Alquin gave a better performance.
Sitting here in 2020, still love this tune.
This video is nostalgic. Performing in a park around trees and the guy driving the car reminds me of visiting my grandparents when I was 5. They lived on a long country road.

A shame that masterful bass line is so low in the mix here. A defining part of the song, yet you can barely hear it. Too bad. This was my late husband's and my official "Our Song," if ever we had one ... Great video, best one I've ever seen for this song. It's a shame Golden Earring never did better than two Top Ten U.S. hits, they had some pretty amazing chops.
