DIY MINI 12V 10A SMPS WITH UC3843

  • Hello guys, KD here. Today i have made a very powerful but also very compact 12V 10A smps with the popular UC3843 ic. The output voltage of this power supply is adjustable and you can also modify the output voltage of this smps to any required voltage. I have use ETD34 trabsformer with an air gap of 0.8MM. The air gap is very important !. If you want to use this power supply at high current then use a big heatsink and don't forgot to isolate the mosfet and the diode. The isolation distance between the primary and secondary is 7mm which is very safe

    Can't you please explain the calculations how you choose ic and transformer windings to get the target oa 12v 10a. If one wants to change the voltage and current what should he do? Incomplete projects are of no use.

      Air gap is required in flyback topology. It is calculated by the parameters of transformer, working frequency etc

    hello. i have an ee35 transformer. can i build this circuit using ee35 transformer? i will follow the winding pattern from your other video:

    Hello,
    By using different core in place of ETD such as EI, EE does the number of turns of primary and secondary WINDING change?
    If change How to calculate the no. Of turns of transformer ?
    And RCD snubber calculations?

      Yes if you change the core size then you have to recalculate it’s winding data. You don’t have to change the rcd snubber, it will work fine

      Ok bro thanks for your feedback. Yes you can use this at 10A but I will prefer you to use it at 8A because you should not use a psu at it’s full power rating

      Thanks. For 30V output, change the 2.2k feedback resistor to 680ohms and change the secondary winding to 10 turns

    All other smps there is a coupling capacitor between earth and -ve of the output. In this circuit no such capasitor included. Why?.

      It’s a flyback topology power supply so the power is limited between 150-180W max !

      You can search from Google through terminology like IC UC3843 pinout and then again search IC UC3845 pinout and then compare, check if both has same pinout.

    Hi why do you use a third winding what was the reason? And what controls the output voltage how to give reference output voltage as 48V and 1A ?

      The third winding is used to power the ic. There is a feedback system to control the output voltage. For 48V output, you have to change some resistors and capacitors

      You have to add a shut resistor combined with a comparator circuit at the output to sense the current flowing and add a led to the output

      You can use any but make sure to use at least 1kv capacitor in the snubber circuit

    Brother,the circuit is easy I just put it together ,all the components are new.I nenergize it and firts of all I extract the ntc termistor , the ic 3843 and also take the mosfet.

      That's quite efficient and doing well under 10A, what more can you ask for. 12V 10A that's 120W of power supply

      Just change the number of turns on the secondary and the feedback resistor. You’ll easily get 5V 10A

    What is the difference to using a Transformer with an 12V output, followed by a bridge rectifier and some capacitors to stabilize the dc output?

      This circuit has stable output voltage. The output voltage can be changed. It can deliver 120W of power even after being small. Low noise at the output. Very cheap.

      Smps are more noisy actually but good because very high efficiency so cheaper or more powerful. Also a supply with transformer bridge and cap also would typically be paired with a linear regulator for very low noise low efficiency​@@FXArts

      Then no need to change the primary and auxiliary, just change the secondary winding to 1 turn and change the feedback resistor

    I have just finished the project now, and have tested it and it working fine but the output drops on load which is not up to 1amp

      You don't need any inductance to wind a transformer....just simple use transformer calculator software

      And if you don't want to use any software just jo as it is in the video there will be no changes and effect in the output hence no need to worry about inductance of transformer
