Back in '63 my family and I visited relatives in the US. We returned home with 2 albums by Allan that were a skit on 'The First Family,' encouraged by our relatives who were great fans. It was so sad that within months of having such a wonderful time, we couldn't bear to listen to Allan's work. Am enjoying these songs so much now. What a talent!
His songs make you happy and and stay in your thoughts long after the song is over He was the best of the best! And that is why even now in july 2020 so many people from back in the day all the way up to today love what he did turning music into fun!
I haven't heard this before.... Love it. Thank you. I loved Allen Sherman so much as a kid... and God Bless TH-cam and all you members who keep his vinyl ear-candy treats alive for future generations.
According to Steve Allen, who suggested the parody idea to Allan Sherman, there was a coda, not heard here: If bluebirds were as fat as I, You'd see some big fat bluebirds in the sky.
The thing is, I went from listening to Allan Sherman albums in my living room, to hearing my first Weird Al Yankovic song in only about three years. It took at least five more years before I felt Al was better than Allan.
Kinda makes the most famous song in the whole movie a joke out of the whole "Pay no attention to the man behind the Iron Curtain!!" the least intimidating thing said in the 2016-2020 portion of the movie, doesn't it?
But somehow, whenever I look at the title, no matter how many times I've heard this tune, I hear in my head a filk on Gordon Lightfoot's "Rainy Day People" …
Wow. I have read and listened to everything imaginable from my childhood hero, Allen Sherman. I have never heard this version of Overweight People so thanks for sharing. I am disappointed that you did not interview Steve Zolotow for your book. He spent much time with Mr Sherman and certainly could have offered more insight and anecdote that his sister. Strange decision on your part, still I am happy to have read the book.
Anything by Allan Sherman. A comedic genius we lost way to early in his career.
Truly underrated and sadly mostly forgotten. Funny, funny man.
The king of song parody!!! This man was absolutely incredible!! Love ya Allan!!!!!
I would say father, Weird Al is probably the king.
Like how Elvis is the king of rock and roll, but Chuck Berry is the father, and I prefer Berry.
@@HiperruimteindustrieeWeird Al learned from Allan Sherman.
@@shawnmcculley2995Yeah but Al claps him any day
Enjoyed an Allan Sherman live concert back in the early 1960s, Thanks for the memories!!!
I'm fourteen and Allan Sherman is one of the funniest people I have ever heard. Thank you for posting this.

I'm 60 and he's STILL funny!
If you like parody, and music being remixed....
In the search box of TH-cam, search for:
The History Teachers. (Amy Burvall & Herb Mahalona.)
Enjoy .
I'm 11 and I do to
Idc about your age but you seem the kind to care so you should check out Tom Lehrer

The "First Family" albums were by Vaughan Meader. We had those too - also wonderful. But not Allan Sherman.
His songs make you happy and and stay in your thoughts long after the song is over

I remember his soothing voice. He was great!
What a comedy genius. Thanks for the upload, Mr. Cohen.
I’ve been a fan of Allan Sherman for many years, and this is the first time I’ve ever heard this one of his. Hilarious!
Hilarious. The combination of his clever parodies and his bellowing non-singing voice is perfection
another great song. It's so exciting to hear Allan Sherman Songs that I've never heard before.
Mark, thanks for sharing. Growing up in the 60's when I was six I had memorized my mom's copy of My Son the Folk Singer. Allan was funny as 'Heck'.

If bluebirds were as fat as I,
You'd see some big fat bluebirds in the sky.
That line is on other versions I've heard. There's a liver version that is available on Amazon for Prime Streaming with it.
Given the cause of his untimely demise, it's hard not to get a little sad hearing this one.
? He died of emphysema lol not heart problems or anything like that
the man was a true genius
KIND OF FUNNY, I LIKE IT! THANKS FOR SHARING! R.K. 3/15/2021.
So very sad ..... Tears ......

A brilliant comic. I remember when Americans could laugh at themselves without worry of being cancelled.
Funny then, still funny now 2019
😂 love it
Wonderful voice so funny

Okey-dokey.

HOWARD COSELL'S FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME.
OMG …I have not heard this song ever … where did you get this song?
unreleased concert recordings. Glad you like.
I have all of his Warner Bros. albums, and that song wasn't on any of them.
So funny.
genius

Cute.😄
He also played Hail To Thee Fat Person. Very funny man
Hail to thee, fat person - you kept us out of war!
And a short one inside one of his miscellaneous medleys: “Fare thee well, Metrecal” (a weight loss shake popular at the time).
Funny!
